We spent 12 days at Memories Flamenco frim January 1st-12th. The staff was amazing from start to finish. From the pool bar bartenders (Aris, Omar & Yuniet),bellboys, maids and Gardners to the General Manager Noelia and Assistant Manager Lucia. Everyone was so helpful & thoughtful. Unfortunately my wife suffered an allergic reaction to the baby mosquitos called (jejenges) and had to see the doctor at the resort who was also very kind and helpful. Trust me when I say if you need anything or have a[... read more]ny concerns go to them and they will go put of their way to do whatever they can to fix the situation or address the concern. The beach is very rocky ... I was there with a broken foot so could not spend anytime down there but everyone said definitely need water shoes as there is a coral reef right there.
Food .... buffet is same as most places average but again the servers were amazing. If you don't see it ask for it. They do not have maple syrup ... it is honey. The snack bar french fries are amazing and I don't like french fries. There is another buffet in behind the snack bar for lunch only. There is also a small gift shop right across from there. The best a LA carte was the Mediterranean. ..amazing ! We went twice. The soup at the Cuban was amazing as well. There is also a lunch beach BBQ every day at 1230
Take condiments if you like lots of flavor. Also huge tip .... ask about the lobster meal. It is 18 pesos and worth every cent. It was amazing !
There is only one laundry mat on the island so linens are sometimes scarce so take a beach towel or two with you.
Overall we loved the resort mainly be a use of the people and the pool. Have a great trip and say hi from Kim and Leah.
We would love to go back because of the staff but not sure if we can because of the mosquitos.
Mosquito tips ... take bug spray with 50 deet. ... don't eat bananas (they like potassium) ... eat garlic (they don't like it) ... note: my wife got hundreds of bites ... I literally only got one on the last day ... so there is no way to know of they will bother you.

Great resort!
Me and my husband stayed for our honeymoon and it was amazing! The staff was great and very friendly! The room was always very clean and our fridge was always stocked with beer and drinks! We stayed over New Years and they put on a wonderful buffet with every type of food you could imagine! After they had a fabulous Michael Jackson show and a fun countdown. All equipped with personal bags full of party hats, noise makers and streamers!
The beach was very nice! It was a little packed and would ta[... read more]ke some time to get a lounger but the crystal clear water and white sand beach made up for it!
Overall a great experience!

I've been to better in Cuba
Overall the Memories is just an average or OK resort. I would not rate it 5 stars unfortunately. 3 major things brought this rating down - 1) The food was not great, 2) No beach towel service all week and 3) Really bad bugs. With regards to the food, the a la cartes were good but you can only book 3 nights. So we were very sick of the buffet by the end of the week and I didn't see much variation in the buffet offerings. 2) Towel service did not get exchanged all week. Imagine your stinking beach[... read more] towels after a day. Enough said. 3) The bugs. I thought we could handle the bugs...but the issue is there are many sand flies. And you don't see them or feel them biting you. I used repellent but I don't even think it worked. The bites take a few days to show up too. My legs were COVERED in bites. I still have scabs from them. I'm not even exaggerating my husband counted 40 bites on my back and I had almost 100 on my legs. They only liked certain people. For whatever reason my husband did not get bit and neither did my son. But if you are prone to bug bites, I would highly recommend another resort. The pluses of the place was that the service was great - and the wait staff is very appreciative if you tip. Our room was fantastic as we had a suite with an extra room and bathroom and we even got upgraded to oceanview so that was great! I would say if you're not prone to bug bites and you get a good deal on this place...it's still worth going. But if you are looking for a premium place and the prices are high, consider somewhere else.

Great resort
a lot of walking,
no lights at night walking on the paths, they have a towel shortage, so you have to re-use your towels all week.
other than that, it was a great trip, great people, food was great, beach was small but was nice. pool and pool bar was great, entertainment was great especially the Michael Jackson show.

Think twice if you are a beach person
The grounds are very pretty and well maintained. The food was quite good, with a varied menu and food stations of items made while you wait. You need to know that steak/meat on the grill is not a Cuban specialty, if that's what you're expecting. Fish and seafood was very good. Most of the staff were friendly and attentive. Rooms are fine/adequate for the amount of time you spend in your room. Our family had three rooms. The housekeeping was consistently very poor at refilling basics like toilet [... read more]paper and clean towels. Daily we were searching out basic supplies. The nightly entertainment was excellent and varied. Now the beach... if you like to stay by the pool this resort is for you. If you are a beach person, find a different resort. The sand is lovely and once you get into the water it's beautiful. Getting into the water is a challenge, even with water shoes. There are sheets of very sharp rock/coral all along the entry to the water, some places extending 10-15 feet into the water. It's quite difficult in spots to walk over the rock. Once you get past the rock there is sand. We were not warned of the extent of this and it really put a damper on the beach/water experience. We will not go back or recommend this resort because of the poor beach conditions.

Memories Flamenco : pretty bad memories
Dear readers,
Dear reader,
We were guests of Memories Flamenco between Dec 23-Dec 30 2015.
Transfer to hotel went smoothly, the room was already preassigned to us and the welcome package and bracelet given on the bus.
Once at the hotel we filled out a form, handed over passes for photocopies and were basically checked in.
The bus boy hauled our suitcases to the door and from here on things started to go downhill.
Upon entering the room, we found a couple inside. Their pre-assigned room was [... read more]a few doors away but, for reasons unknown to us, they were moved to our room. Eventually, they went back to their original room and their access key continued to be able to unlock both door locks, theirs and ours.
Once they moved out, we quickly discovered the toilet in the bathroom was not working (not flushing). Tried to call customer service but the phone was not working. Went to the customer service to let them know about the non-working toilet. Despite our plea, no change of room was offered, no apologies, just the promise a technician will be sent to fix the toilet. When asking the person at customer service what will happen if the technician can’t fix it she replied “don’t worry, be happyâ€.
The technician showed up ten minutes later and did some work, then announced it is fixed, we only need to wait a few minutes for the tank to get filled. Half an hour later the tank was still empty and the toilet was leaking and still not flushing.
Went back to customer service desk and asked to be moved to a different room. None available, was the answer, come tomorrow.
Day 2. Went to customer service again, this time talked to a different person. We will send a technician, was the answer, the best we have. The best was the same person who came on Day 1, only this time, after 2 hours of work he managed to fix it.
By the end of the day, hot water was no longer available in the shower. Three days later, hot water came back for a day and then, you guessed, went away.
One night, the whole building had no power.
The room had a very powerful musty smell which I assume is one of the permanent tenants there, along with the bugs we discovered going around happily about their business. Not the occasional bug who may come from outside by accident, they looked like they were living there and prospered. We met a few of the bugs’ relatives and friends in the main buffet, on the wall near our dining table. Bon appetit ! BTW, the light in the main buffet is very dim, it gets depressing.
The property has some really dark places at night, especially near building 6 & 7.
The cooked food in the buffet is average at best but at least we were prepared for this.
Most personnel is nice and tries to help, some are simply good natured, the one exception we met was the short lady waiter with yellow colored hair and thick dark eyebrows on the left side as you enter in the main buffet. She asked us if we want coffee or tea one morning, we told her what we would like to get, she did not appear to be listening what we said, off she went and never came back. Passed our table multiple times since but did not acknowledge our presence. I guess she has not noticed a peso at the ready (which we dispensed to others for good service), try to avoid her if you don’t tip just to get attention.
The beach is mostly rocky but you will find a spot by the deck where you don’t need water shoes to get in the water. It is long, and one can walk for miles in either direction, some areas are very nice and look untouched by human activity.
The entertainment by the pool seems to have some variety which people seem to enjoy.
We tried some drinks (mojito and pina colada) in the lobby bar and were good, at the beach bar were awful, the red wine was pretty good too.
If you know you attract mosquitoes, bring repelant, you will need it.
Throughout our vacation we tried not to think at issues and enjoy the nature, weather and people we got in touch with and we succeeded with strong self-management but would have liked to relax instead, what are vacations for?
Once arrived at home, we checked everything in our suitcases to make sure they were bug-free and promptly did the laundry.
The hotel has issues. Yours to discover. We would not return to Memories Flamenco and would not recommend it to anyone. Would you ?

Great Value
This resort has several positives, the biggest of which is the staff that is always very friendly and happy. The resort is clean, and the grounds very pretty when everything is in bloom. The beach is great, providing a good combination of areas where there is plenty of shade and areas where one can bask in the sun. The water is amazing but unfortunately coral located at the shoreline can make entry a bit difficult without water socks. The pool is very nice and 24 hr snack bar a great amenity. Th[... read more]e evening lounge is also a super place to hang out. Rooms are spacious but basic. The overall resort is getting a bit tired but upgrades seem to be happening. The food is average, so fussy eaters might have some difficulty. Quirks included no working phone in room, inability to get an extra cot, broken coffee maker, difficulty getting beach towels and having to use the same ones all week. But if you pay a good price, these are minor items that won't ruin what can be a tremendous and relaxing holiday.

Lovely resort!
I loved the ocean, and the nature. Very beautiful place to be. The food was decent, and the staff were amazing. I also liked the gardens a lot. Doctor is kind of expensive, so you better carry a small first aid kit with you. Finally, don't forget your water shoes.

Best beaches
First time on the island loved the beach and sun food was average service was average. This resort offers peace and tranquility not much to do outside of resort in terms of night life but all we needed was sun and beach and that it gave you plenty. Many excursions out side of beach available but we stuck to the basics. The teenagers were busy at pool and meeting new friends so they were happy. And the booze kept flowing to make sure adults were happy.
We had a great time.

Great Resort and Location
Resort, location, drinks and staff are great. The evening shows where also much better then expected. Food was probably the only part that was below par and needs improvement. Was able to find something decent to eat most nights, but hopefully they are able to improve on this.

Very nice resort
Our room was clean - air conditioning worked great and in October,we sure needed it. Our chambermaid was awesome. Pool was very busy and very little shade so we only went there after 4pm. Snorkeling was good to the left of the resort (not the Diamond Club side). We prefer a beach where you can spread out more. The beach area to lounge felt very crowded and not enough shade. Towel exchange was poor - available only 1 time during the week. Buffet was good - inconsistent choices but I understand wh[... read more]y - could always find a good protein source which is most important to me. Staff are friendly and helpful. Would definitely return.

Nice resort
Grounds and beach very nice. Entertainment very good. Food was awful but that was not something I was worried about. there was a problem with beach towels. Even though I told at the front desk that we don't have towels, we received them the day before we left. Luckily we had our own towels.

Met and even exceeded our expectations!
This hotel is clean, the service is sincere and the meals are good (comparable to Dominican Republic). The only down size, if any, is the beach where you nead (it is better if you have) a pair of shoes to get in the water because there is a bit of coral sea entering the water. The sand is white and the water turquoise. There is good animation and shows at night. Always remember that we only pay around a $1000/week/person to be there.... manage your expectations.

Third time not so Nice
This is the 3rd yr we went at about the same time in November to the same Memories Flamenco Cayo Coco. Check in was smooth as they did it at the airport rather that the lobby. Short 25 minute bus to Hotel. Once there things got bad- no water in room- room was a mess, cabinets broke and unusable, Safe had sticky numbers, Electrical switch hanging from wall, Shower diverter valve broken, the mattress on one of the beds was caved in, and the room had a terrible musty smell. I tried to use the room [... read more]phone several times with no responses. I attended the front lobby Memories rep 'Marianne' who quickly gave us another room in a different building and advised they would take the room off the list until repairs had been completed (within a few days that rm was occupied and I spoke to the guests which had same issues). Our new room still had no water- limited water at times- and at times no hot water. The Hotel rep advised that this was a issue in the entire resort however this was not the case. Eventually near the end of the trip they had the issue with the water fixed. Major issue which we were basically without no information from Sunwing Rep.
We were advised by hotel Rep Marianne that since we were repeat customers (some repeat guests received different colour armbands-we didn't) a special lobster dinner was happening on the Monday evening- which on Monday turned out to be some beef -no lobster- which was tough and was told the hotel changed the menu- it was the worst meal there.
Buffet-beach grille- Restaurants-snack bar was great. Although we for some reason had no bacon at this resort (next door resort did as we peeked)
I felt the staff were great in the day to day operation.
The beach is the same- old coral in spots so you need water shoes and need to be careful still.
Take a flashlight with you- walkways are dark-lights not working or removed in areas.
As I mentioned this is the third year at this Memories and I did not see the manager Jesus, who in previous years was visible all over the resort. I was advised he had been moved to another Memories. I wonder if this may have been a factor in the condition of this resort.
From the 3 years I see issues of maintenance falling downhill.
We might go back but will be watching reviews closely.

Exactly right
Now let me start put by saying I'm easy going in my expectations of a trip. I realize I'm going to a different country. Especially a country which has very little USA involvement in its economic structure. So I put all standards away and I just travel.
That being said. I would hands down recommend this place. And I would return there again.
We did the diamond club upgrade. And I'll say for us totally worth it. We did not see any non members using any of our perks. The lobster dinner was fabulous[... read more]. The beach wait staff - a very awesome benefit. And yes we saw people turned away who weren't club member.
The beach when calm. Beautiful. But on the DC side. Coral. So water shoes a must looks like they weren't needed on the other part of the beach. The water when calm was like bath water. Lovely color and clear. However for us. Lots of red flag days as it was pretty windy alot of our stay.
The hotel staff. Fantastic. German at the front desk. That guy pulled out all stops to helps us. Even surprised my boyfriend with a cake at the lobster dinner for his birthday.
Yes the hotel could use some repairs. But which hotel wouldn't when ur faced with high Temps and humidity as well as moisture all year round. But with that. They were constantly working on something. Trying to keep the life in it.
If ur looking for a party place. Not sure this is it. Great place for a family. Or even a couple who just wants to turn everything off and chill. But the entertainment staff were great the shows we caught. You must see the Michael Jackson show. It's a must. Brilliant.
The food. Not once did we go hungry. We always found something we enjoyed. Yes some cooks aren't the greatest but you learnt which ones were and they never failed. The smoothie girl is adorable and always upbeat she was a must visit every morning.
The foam party. What a blast. For young and old. I'm so glad we hung out for it. Make sure u get involved in it. Totally worth it.
Some bartenders were like the cooks. Not the best. But others totally did it up perfectly.
We stayed in bungalow 3 which looked over the kids area. It really was the perfect spot. Besides the snack bar. Close to the pool. The beach. I'd recommend this area. Again rooms do need some tlc. Little bit of moisture mold on bathroom ceiling. But I heard if u ask them to clean it they will come in with bleach. I wasn't worried.
There was a towel strike on while we were there. So didn't have beach towels but we asked for extra room towels. No problem. Asked for extra pillows. No problem.
The kids club my girls went to a few times. Diane is one of those ladies who was meant to take care of kids. My girls and us adored her. She made each kid feel as though they were the only ones in the room.
Ala cartes. We kept missing our times. Only one we made it to was the Asian and we enjoyed it. The chicken was to die for. Our friends made it to every meal and said they were all delicious.
Our trips out ...
Pilar beach. If it's windy don't waste ur time. We went and left within 30 mins.
Speed boat. Fun. Girls enjoyed the little boats we drove. And the snorkeling was good time.
Dolphin swim. Had to as we have a huge dolphin lover. We're not disappointed. We loved that even though they are penned the dolphins decided how they wanted to be involved and the staff worked around their behavior.
The walk to the little market. Not much to buy. But there is a guy named Adrian I think who is a phenomenal artist. We had him do portraits of the girls. In 20 mins time he truly captured each of them exactly as they are. He's worth the time to check out. And worth the time to appreciate.
Some tips
Bring a flashlight. It does get dark. Not the best lite
Bring bug repellent. They loved me but no one else in our party.
WiFi totally sucks. Apparently Samsung phones can't connect to their server tried all week. Finally got on at the airport.
If u can go longer then 7 days. Do it. We wish we had.
Remember your not in ur country. Your on vacation. These people work 12-20 hour days 6 days at week to make that enjoyable for you. Remember to thank them. Treat them as people. Not as servants as some people do :(
This is one of the very few places I'd actually return to. I miss it already.
Sorry for the long post. If there are any things you want to know ask away. I'd really hate anyone to miss this gem because of a few bad reviews.
