Hotel Playa Paraiso: Great resort, bad front desk service

Decent food and rooms for the price. Great beach, but always a lack of chairs it seems. Amazing wait staff in a la carte and buffet, always made you feel welcomed. Front desk staff were horrible and clearly didn't like their jobs. Very mean and standoffish.

Iberostar Origin Daiquiri: Fantastic Time

We were very happy with the Iberostar Daiquiri resort. The guest room was clean and comfortable. The restaurant service was excellent and the food was wonderful. The beach was outstanding. We had a fantastic time.

Memories Flamenco Beach Resort: Very nice resort

Very nice resort, with probably the friendliest workers I have ever seen at any resort I have ever been to. Food was very good, and the drinks were always flowing. Short drive from the airport, which was nice. Excellent beach area.

Melia Jardines del Rey: Great resort but not a 5* yet

Rooms - clean and spacious but basic Staff - courteous and helpful Food - lots of it but not gourmet. The French Bistro a la carte was by far the best Pool - absolutely gorgeous. Had to get up early to save seats. People leave towels on chairs all day and never sit there. Beach - stunning water, a little rocky in some parts

The hotel workers were constantly working to keep the grounds looking beautiful. The hotel service workers were smiling and friendly, and trying to please. I had a feeling of being genuinely welcomed to Cuba.

Overall this resort was a very good vacation. The staff were friendly and helpful, the facilities were nice and clean and we were always able to find something to eat. The poolside grill and the beach grill were by far the best. The only complaint that I have about this resort was the beach. It was too rocky and full of coral. We traveled to Pillar beach one day and it was beautiful white sand and lots of room to sit in the sun. Melia Cayo Coco: Quiet Hotel

The hotel was nice and clean. I enjoyed the food in the buffet and loved the la carte. The night entertainment was not very good and they did not have a pool bar. This resort would be great for couples that want to have a quiet vacation with no partying

Memories Caribe Beach Resort: Nice Resort

This was a lovely resort, a bit on the older side, but the grounds were always clean and the rooms were clean as well. The staff and grounds people were awesome and loved that they greeted you every day. The food was good, always something to eat at the buffet. We did 2 restaurants and I can't even complain about either. The only thing I would complain about is that there was not enough shade at the pool, but otherwise, it was great. Hotel Playa Coco: Wonderful staff

Staff are amazing, resort is very clean. Food was decent overall, Japanese restaurant is very good and very creative. Need to check out the wine bar, however no water for shower one day and no hot water for 4 days.

Muthu Colonial Hotel: Remote, beautiful old resort

This resort is beautiful in its architecture and the people who work here will do anything to make you happy. Our first room was in the main building and the room was very musty smelling. We asked to be moved and by the next day we had a beautiful room overlooking the salt water pool. This resort needs some work as the air conditioning was less than adequate. The food was ok.... Iberostar Origin Daiquiri: Incredible Trip!

Absolutely amazing resort. Beautiful sandy beaches, excellent food, extremely friendly staff and amazing entertainment. This is by far one of the best trips I have been on. Loved the fresh coconuts available everyday! Definitely going back next year!

Muthu Colonial Hotel: Needs alot of repair and help !

A few reasons why we decided on this resort was the cheap price. It's true you get what you pay for. The first night the room smelled like sewer and it was directly over the disco which does not agree with my sleeping habits nor my spouse's. We requested a room change and it was processed immediately. Secondly the meals were bland and tasteless. The staff don't wear protective hand gloves for sanitary purposes and that's not acceptable in the food preparation industry. The food that was identifiable sometimes was not eatable and so full of un chewable pieces we had to throw it away. Other times it was not the right colour. The bar tenders don't know when to cut people off when they have had too much to drink and that's not right. It's a waste and is dangerous when the temperature outside exceeds 40C that can be very dangerous. Overall I will not be returning to this resort anytime soon due to these issues. Other tourists were the best information conveyors to what was going on and where to find things when needed not the Hotel management or staff. There should of been a representative at the hotel at all waking hours to help first timers at this resort rather than taking their money to external tours and so forth. Sorry this is my feelings about Hotel Colonial but it's the truth .

Muthu Colonial Hotel: Hidden Gem for the money you pay.....

This was my second time to visit this resort. I went with a good friend from April 4 to 18, 2015. I had been here about 2 years ago and noticed some very positive changes. It is still a hidden gem for the amount of money you pay. Returning guests are treated like royalty, and the staff remembers faces too. The Colonial is a lovely resort built in 1993, but renovated in 2005, with renovations still ongoing, but this will not disrupt your holiday in any way. It has very spacious rooms, excellent s [... read more]ervice from very nice people who aim to please, nice food and a beautiful beach that you can walk on for about 2 to 3 kilometers. You do not have coffee makers in your room, nor beer or pop, you are given one bottle of water per day. But you can stock up your fridge on your own – the little shops have snacks too and a great guy named Hector! The walkways are not very good for wheelchairs or walkers, nd there are no elevators (fine for us but others may have difficulty). There is also not a great deal of lighting along some of the paths, but I did notice a great deal more lighting than the last time I was at the resort. The hotel has amenities on site such as shops, doctor, dentist, massage, and hair salon. It also boasts a great piano bar, very entertaining shows (the Michael Jackson show was excellent as was the Retro show). It has a freshwater pool, a salt water pool and a super beach. The first week we were there we encountered rough water, but the second week saw a change in the tides and swimming was wonderful! In the afternoon there are parties at the pools with young and old enjoying a few bevvys and meeting new people – especially at the swim up bar in the salt water pool. The breakfast is from 7 till 10, and you can have anything you like, eggs done the way you like, banana pancakes, fresh juices, all kinds of bread, cheese, ham, fruit etc. If you miss breakfast, get an egg sandwich (or burger, ham and cheese, tuna or chicken salad sandwich) any time at the 24 hour snack bar in the Placita. Lunch is from 1:30 till 2.45 pm, at the main buffet. There is a grill at the beach. The Yarey Grill is near the Fresh water pool. If you want lunch there, be sure to get your table around 12 noon as it fills up fast. From the time you order food to the time you receive it is about an hour. The grill at the pool had the best fish which my friend had on a couple of occasions – hot off the charcoal grill, eyes and tail, the whole caboodle. There is a pool table and ping pong table to pass the time though. Dinner is from 6:30 to 10 pm, but it seemed the main buffet restaurant was open until around 8 only, and then you're directed to the other smaller buffet restaurant just around the corner. Don’t miss the a la cartes! There are 3 a la carte restaurants and you get 3 vouchers – try them all out – seriously, if you can’t find something on these menus you like then you are just too picky! We had no problem making all 6 reservations on the second day (you go to the Italian restaurant between 3:30 to 5:30 and just tell them when you want to go to each restaurant, the date, and the time you prefer). The rustic soup at the Cuban restaurant was amazing (okay, I do know, as I had 4 bowls over 2 weeks!) and the chicken was delicious. The Italian restaurant, Fontanella was great, with the piano bar attached. I enjoyed the lasagna and spaghetti Bolognese the best. And remember, whenever you're hungry, you can get a hamburger or a selection of sandwiches or French fries at the snack bar, where they serve drinks. The wine was a hit or miss, but usually a miss. I did enjoy some Spanish Legitimo, but that was only on a couple of occasions. You can buy some nice Chilean wine at the shop nearby and bring it to the resort, or bring your own from home, especially the tetra packs. The beach is gorgeous and there is no need for water shoes. It is definitely the best section of beach at the Colonial Resort. The chairs are almost brand new (from what I remember from my last visit) and plentiful, with lots of shade palapas . There is a guy to get a chair for you and he will also clean it for you. He will grin from ear to ear for a CUC. Everyone we came across was very friendly and outgoing. Thumbs up and big smiles out to Juan, Roberto, Isabel and Alex in the 24 hour bar. Liber in the lobby bar made the best cappacinos. Omar at the Lobby bar has a great sense of humour too. Miguel at the swim up pool bar is awesome. His assistants were excellent too (Thanks Miney!) They also make good popcorn – bring your favourite Kernals seasonsings and leave them behind. Daily helped out at the swim up bar from 4 to 5, and then she worked at the Cuban restaurant – what a doll! Always a smile and happy face for sure. Augusto at Fontanellas restaurant was a bit surly on our first visit. But we didn’t let that get to us. Noel was the bartender and made the best drinks at the piano bar, and helped out at the restaurant too. Juliette, AKA The Churro Lady was so funny! As one traveller said, she is the sassiest little woman with a big heart! We went to Lennys and thoroughly enjoyed the good food, sunset and beach. The seafood platter was well worth the 12 CUC and I had an amazing half chicken with rice and salad for $8.00. We went also to another restaurant on the beach down from the Tryp called Las Dunas Rancho, where my friend enjoyed the lobster, shrimp, good rice and fries for $12 CUC. A beer is a CUC. We met lots of wonderful people and had a great time with them. Anyone who has travelled to Cuba knows that the food can be hit and miss, but we found the Colonial to be above average. There are two buffet restaurants that serve a variety of hot and cold dishes, and each one has their respective grill stations that offer, in our opinion, the best food available. The a la cartes were very nice. Our only beef was the water outages, which happened several times. The water would shut off for hours at a time, often late in the evening. ( which means you can't shower, wash your hands, flush the toilet). We would recommend to avoid showering between 7 and 9 am, and 4 and 6 pm. This is when most people shower and the water pressure can slow to a trickle during these times. Also when you shower on the off times, hot water was plentiful. Remember to take wash cloths as there are none. The room safe is free and easy to program.

Iberostar Origin Daiquiri: Amazing resort, great staff and people

Hotel was great, clean, we had a renovated room. Very friendly staff. The food unfortunately wasn't that great. Not a lot of choice. Beach was great, pool was great, not a lot of beach/pool chairs however. All in all I WOULD recommend this place.

Hotel Playa Paraiso: Had an "ok" time

Hotel needs work, need way more staff, decent food selection, beautiful beach, nice rooms. Customer service was very poor and needs the most work. Arrive at 10am, get room at 6pm half dirty - not cool

Hotel Playa Paraiso: Great Resort!

Very nice, clean resort. Rooms were spacious and comfortable. Food was good, we never went hungry. Beach, awesome. Lots of fish to see & feed right off the beach. We found starfish, sea urchins and sand dollars as we walked through the clear water. Pool, nice. Staff were hard working but unfortunately, under staffed. Do need more shade structures on the beach. Lobby was the place to be after supper. The 3 a la cartes were good as well. We have no complaints and would return in the future.

Hotel Playa Paraiso: Would not go back

We arrived 2nd week of April. Waited 6 hrs for our room. Very understaffed. Food was ok not great. Towel game around the pool ridiculous, 6:30 am not a lounger to be found . People putting towels down before they go to bed. Ate at the Italian a la carte moved my napkin and a cockroach ran across the table, gross!! Beach bar has only 1 bartender for loads of people, long lineups everywhere, also in the buffet. Definitely would not go back.

Hotel Playa Paraiso: Good value for the money

Beach is 5 star, resort itself is 3.5-4 star. Rooms are clean and fairly modern, food is just OK, not too much variety. Up at 4:30 - 5 AM to reserve shade huts on the beach, shouldn't gave to set an alarm clock while on vacation. Overall very happy with our choice.

Hotel Playa Paraiso: Amazing Vacation

We stayed at the Pestana from April 16th to the 23rd, what to say about this resort, well we would definitely return in a heartbeat. Rooms are modern and very clean, staff very friendly, food was great for Cuba it surpassed our expectations. The beach is beautiful if you go to the left it is very rocky with lots of coral but the right hand side of the beach is a "DREAM" the only negative thing I have to say is about the beach it's the chair game, we got up as early as 5 am and no place in the sh [... read more]ade, the only place with shade if you were lucky enough was under the trees but the sand is very dirty and rocky with lots of bugs as this is a fairly new resort they had to cut trees and they burnt them in place so be prepared to have lots of leftover roots and rocks in the sand. The best way to describe the beach is that is looks like a 3 part beach, close to the water is very clean, a little further up starting to be rocky and as I mentioned near or under the trees it needs a lot of cleaning, but all in all this is a very nice resort and would highly recommend it. Can't wait to return to the Pestana. The only reason I am not rating it a 5 star is because of the beach.

Hotel Playa Paraiso: Excellent location and resort is good!

The reviews were very helpful as it set my expectations. I was even more impressed with the beach and with young children it was easy to spend half the day at the pool and then the beach. Finding chairs by the pool was just a matter of moving someone's towel, because most people don't come back for hours and there is a sign somewhere that says 2 hour limit if not being used. The food was "meh", but we were warned and this is to be expected in Cuba. It was trial and error until you found something. But we didn't travel there for the food. The beach is amazing! The mini disco for kids at 8:30pm every night was fun! Some of the shows were a little cheesy, but overall impressive dancing and animators were fun and entertaining to watch. Day trip to Moron was worth it just to see something different. But the half day is good enough. Glad I didn't do the full day. Rooms are perfect and super clean and big. Make sure if you have small kids you get a room on the ground level. Management needs to do a better job of having rooms ready when people arrive. That part was a bit of a disaster. The playground for kids by the pool was great too! We also loved going to the snack bar open 24 hours. Overall, amazing time! Beautiful perfect beach! Clean modern rooms and good service in general. For the price, I will definitely be going there again.
