Hotel Playa Paraiso: Great trip

Pestana resort is modern, clean and well kept. The buffet was typica for Cuba. We found tasty food at the pool snack bar and beach snack bar. They make an excellent Cuban sandwich at the snack bar by the beach walkway. Bring your Bubba if you don't want a 2 oz beer cup. The staff were very friendly and provide good service. The beach is beautiful white sand and excellent for young kids but there is not a lot of shade. It's mostly French Canadians. Its very hard to find an unreserved chair in the [... read more] shade. No one monitors the hours that the chair is vacant but reserved. We booked last minute and found this resort was of great value.

Memories Flamenco Beach Resort: Nice resort, but food subpar

Beautiful resort, we were there in march of 2013, and last week and the food definitely has taken a huge step down, the drinks were great, the service excellent but the food was not good, i don't know if management changed, i don't think we will return.

Hotel Mojito: nice renovated resort

Resort nice but far from the ocean - not for people who like oceanview rooms, beach small, some rocky areas. Food better than other 4 star resorts, all water purified. Only complaint will be long lines in buffet.

Melia Jardines del Rey: Still Needs Work - but getting there

The Hotel was new so clean & nice. However there was not enough staff in some areas. Our room did not get cleaned for 2 days. The beach was full of coral so did not enough it as much. I would go back in a few years once the construction is completed.

Memories Flamenco Beach Resort: beautiful resort, beautiful beach and pools

Absolutely beautiful, very clean, friendly people, loved the beach and pools, would recommend this resort to others.Lots of things to do on this resort.Would recommend anyone who visits this resort to do the catermeran, the glass bottom boat and walk the beautiful beach.Loved the 24 hour grill on site.Grounds are very clean.Make sure you take in some shows and visit Gastavo , the bartender who makes the most delicious chocolate martinis.

Hotel Playa Paraiso: Ok for an inexpensive vacation

I (38) vacationed with my mother (72) and daughter (6). I have been to Cuba over 15 times but this was my first time to Cayo Coco. For the 3 of us we paid a total including taxes 1650$ and at that price the resort was fine. If I paid much more I would have been disappointed. Pros: The resort is close to the airport so there isn't a very long drive. Everything is close together at the resort so you don't have too much walking to get to where you want to be. The rooms, restaurants, lobby and thea [... read more]ter are nice and kept very clean. The staff was always friendly and helpful. The pool is large and the beach is beautiful. Cons: During the week of April 13-20th the resort was severely understaffed. There were long waits for drinks, food, money exchange and reception. THERE IS NO SHADE!!!!! There are very limited palapas around the pool and at the beach. Anyone I spoke with found this a huge issue. I'm used to the limited choices and different taste of Cuban food but what they did have was not very good. For most people this won't be an issue but my mom has issues walking and the resort is very hilly. The beach is nice where they have cleared the coral in the ocean. Otherwise you need to wear water shoes due to the thick coral. I think the best way to describe the entertainment staff would be..Tired? They weren't overly friendly and just didn't seem like they wanted to be there. By our last day it seemed like they could have used a little more chlorine in the pool. It was looking and smelling a little "dirty". All in all, it was nice to get away after the long cold winter and I would only return to this resort if I saw it at a bargain price.

Memories Flamenco Beach Resort: friendly staff...great fresh fish

Stayed at Memories Flamenco for a wedding vacation. It was iur first time in Cuba. The wedding on the pier gazebo is the most picturesque imaginable. All staff from bartenders to maids to gardeners were extremely friendly. if you like fish it is worth the wait at the fish grill in the main buffet restaurant. Beach is great but making a half day trip to Pilar beach is mandatory. There are planned bus trips or you can take a taxi. You won't regret it. Melia Jardines del Rey: Avoid At All Costs!

Being an almost brand new hotel, this hotel has a lot to work out. Our bed linens were already ripped and had blood stains on them. There were no beach towels for the first few days because the laundry machines were broken. The shower hose burst three separate times and we had water flying everywhere in the room. There were flies on all of the food in the buffet, even on the food in the heated areas. One worker went to replace a platter of food in the hot section, and the food slipped off the tr [... read more]ay and right into the hot water and he just scooped it back up and put it back on the tray for people to eat. The beach is terrible, so rocky and full of coral. There are not enough lounge chairs, neither at the pool or on the beach, however if you give a worker a few pesos he will "miraculously" find you one, but never any cushions, just the hard plastic. We were told about a bus that would take you to a nice beach for 5 pesos, an hour away, so we went. The beach was beautiful however the bus was so old and unsafe. It had a hole in the floor that you could actually see the road go by as you rode in it. On the return trip home the bus was so crowded my husband and I had to stand right next to this hole, and as the old bus went bumpity bump over the old roads I was afraid our feet would fall through the hole. We were allowed 3 dinner reservations in the specialty restaurants but the guy making the reservations said the earliest times available were at 9:30 p.m., way to late for us, so after a little sweet talk he was able to get us in between 5:30 -6 p.m. Once in these specialty restaurants, we were surprised to see only a handful of tables were occupied, other tourists said the same thing. The shows started way too late for us. We never made it to one. This was our 7th time to Cuba and definitely our last one. In the 43 years that my dear husband and I have been travelling I have never wished to be home from a holiday, our return home couldn't have come any faster.

Hotel Playa Paraiso: Loved the Pestana Cayo Coco!

We just got back from a 7 day stay at the Pestana Cayo Coco and loved it! This was our 5th trip to Cuba but our first to Cayo Coco. The beach is the highlight and was the nicest beach I have ever experienced. The water was super clear, warm, shallow and all on soft white sand. The resort was well managed and the staff were all there to make your happy. The food was pretty good and we enjoyed all of the restaurants/ buffet/ snackbar areas. We loved hanging out in the lobby, enjoyed the shows, and danced every night at their disco. One of the best things about the trip was that it was so close to the airport so travelling to and from the resort was a breeze. We can't wait to go back! Best trip ever!

Memories Flamenco Beach Resort: Beautiful amazing resort!!!

The hotel was beautiful and well maintained. The staff were fantastic. The meals were hit and miss but it is Cuba and can be expected. The pools were fantastic. The beach wasn't as good as I had hoped. Varadero beaches were better. Overall, it was an amazing stay that i will never forget.

The resort was all around awesome. We have no complaints at all. The grounds were clean and minted l dayomg by friendly groundskeepers the rooms we had were clean and comfortable, once again the cleaning staff made sure we were happy with everything even with the language barriers they were still able to get along with their courtesy and friendliness. Memories Flamenco Beach Resort: Lovely resort

This was probably one of the top 3 hotels we have been to in Cuba . If it weren't for the coral issue it would have been our top 1. Great staff. Well maintained. Managers on site all day and very helpful and professional. Ask for Noelia or Raul if you have any problems.

Hotel Playa Paraiso: Wonderful staff !! Beautiful beach !!

The hotel is very nice. The rooms new and very comfortable. The grounds are beautiful. The staff FANTASTIC !!! The food.. Hey it's Cuba they have what's available at the time but we always had fantastic fresh fish!! Our biggest problem was rude guests saving multiple chairs in multiple places. I feel the beach and pool staff need to have more control over this. They need to tell guests that they cannot save chairs all over the resort I.E. Beach sun, beach shade and pool. If every guest had a ca [... read more]rd with their room# on it they could save a chair anywhere but....ONLY ONE CHAIR at a time !!! You cannot sit on three chairs at once. It should not be up to the guests to confront other guests over a chair that remains vacant 1/2 to 3/4 of the day and in some cases all day

Hotel Playa Paraiso: Nice clean resort

We have been in Cuba a few times and stayed at different resorts. This resort is clean with a nice beach as every beach in Cayo Coco. No complains about food. Cuban Restaurant was the best of the three. I would recommend to pay special attention to beach towels to avoid problems at check-out

Hotel Vigia: Lovely stay at the Sol

Great beach, particularly if you are a kite boarder. Grounds a little tired and work going on to upgrade the hotel. Rooms were adequate, comfortable, clean with lovely views. Hotel had a sense of being past its best days (but in process of upgrading). If a few items broke down (eg safe, door lock) the service was immediate and professional, very impressive. Food was superb, great quality and choice. Food in a la carte was ok, not worth lining up for 30 minutes to book though! Trips to Catamaran  [... read more]were great (snorkeling was average) and the swimming with the Dolphins a real highlight.

Hotel Vigia: Very good

The resort is compact and everything is within walking distance. The beach is beautiful, very shallow and great for kids. There is almost constant wind, but barely any waves. Excellent food, no lines.

Memories Caribe Beach Resort: Perfect for some R&R!

This was my first trip to Cuba and I didn't really know what to expect. I have travelled extensively throughout Europe and mainly holidayed in Spain and Portugal...Cuba did not disappoint. I was blown away at how nice the Cuban people are. They are truly humble and kind people, just lovely. Our hotel was more than adequate and our room, though a little dated was very clean. The air conditioner worked perfectly and our room was quiet with a balcony looking out over the water. Our maid Dayamy was a sweetheart and always made sure our room was clean and tidy. Everyday she left us a fresh bottle of water in the mini fridge and surprised us with fancy little towel and blanket designs folded into hearts with flowers entertwined..so sweet. The grounds of this resort are very nice and the gardeners are so pleasant and always greet you with a friendly smile and a "Hola". We went on an excursion to the main town of Moron and it was like we had stepped back in time. Old cars and pastel coloured buildings. I asked our tour guide what the crime rate was like as we disembarked the bus to go touring around as we were women travelling alone and he told me that there was no crime rate!...(apart from crimes of passion) that was very reassuring as when in Europe you always need to be very wary of pickpockets etc. The beach at this resort was GORGEOUS! We walked along the boardwalk on that first day and we were blown away with the colours of the ocean and the sky..so breathtakingly beautiful. Our only complaint regarding the beach area is that they could do with a few more loungers. (The Diamond Club lounge area was empty most days though) By the time we had had breakfast and headed back to our room to change into beach attire, most of the loungers had been spoken for and we had to scrounge around for 4 singles so we could all be together. I guess if you get up early and mark your territory with a beach towel you would be okay, but we couldnt be bothered. The bar at the beach is great..don't forget to bring your BUBBA! There are also snacks..burgers, hotdogs, pizza and grilled cheese and ham sandwiches. (I recommend the latter..). If none of these choices appeal to you and the buffet isn't open you can go to the snack bar and get yummy fries or a sandwich. So now we are on the subject of food...something that is close to everyones heart...the buffet is fine. I am not an over picky person so I will always find something to eat. Breakfast was my biggest challenge though. There is an abundance of food, and it all looks wonderful, but it didn't really appeal to my palate. There is also an omellete station and a pancake station. Neither of which I liked. I also try not to eat bread so that limited my choices. However, a couple of hard boiled eggs went a long way for me. I was also surprised at how limited the fruit choices were. In a tropical country I expected the pineapple and mango etc. to be abundant, but this is obviously not the case...(perhaps its because everything is so natural and produced without chemicals?) Lunch and dinner was much better for me and there is always delicious roast chicken and salad so you definitely won't starve! There are 4 restaurants at this hotel which can be booked on arrival. (we were allowed 3) the Asian was wonderful, the Mediterranean was great and the Italian restaurant was right on the beach which was so nice. There is also a Cuban restaurant. There is a coffee bar which makes wonderful Spanish Coffees (with Brandy). Also beside the pool there is an ice-cream shack..very yummy! They have pretty much thought of everything. The entertainment at this resort is mainly dancers...cute..but when you've seen it once you've seen enough. This is a relatively quiet resort and is very suitable for families and older people. We were normally in bed by midnight. I have teenage daughters (who were not with me on this trip) and they would have been bored. So if you want to party or dance ..then go to Varadero. (There is a disco at this resort, but it was never open). So to conclude this review..I will be returning to Memories Caribe, Cayo Cocco...when I need to recharge my batteries. GREAT VALUE FOR MONEY!

Hotel Playa Paraiso: Relaxing Vacation

Nice small resort well laid out and easy to get around. The first floor is raised but is wheelchair accessible. The beach was nice in front of our resort best out of the three in this section. Rooms are big and comfortable but the tubs are way too high.

Melia Cayo Coco: Meticulously kept resort

Beautiful beach. The food was great! Everything was very fresh and the meat was grilled in front of you. Exceptionally clean. The room could have been updated but was very nice. The grounds-keepers were very friendly and added nice touches to ensure you were having a good day; ie: would make small animals out of the palm leaves. Nice souviner to take home.

This was our first trip to Cuba. Cubans are very friendly and we loved the service we got!! The rooms are nice and big, the mattress was a bit hard but we slept very well. There is a huge problem with the shower drain as water spills in the bathroom... poor construction. We were in Bungalow 12 and we felt it was the best one. We had oceanview room, not much view but we enjoyed the privacy. The restaurants were not all in there official spot, but they were all open in temporary sites anyways. Do not expect more than 3 stars dining, but they do what they can with what they have. Bring your wine for the restaurants since the wine they serve is pretty bad.
