Hotel Playa Paraiso: Cayo Coco Beach was awesome

I will start with the positive: - Beach was AMAZING!! - Hotel was in a great location close to airport. - Gardner Osmani was very nice to us. Thank you for the hats!!! - The lady at the 24hr bar. She was in the world cup section (irina?) She was always with a smile and very attentive. - Food was ok 👍 . Poutine and ham and cheese sandwich at the 24hr bar was AMAZING!! Now to the negative: - Our hotel room bed was hard as a rock. BATHTUB was a struggle to get in (we had to climb [... read more] up to get in) my friend had a hip replacement so was very very difficult to shower. - Customer Service from the lobby to bartenders and servers was very poor (except a few that cracked a smile at us) - We felt discriminated due to the fact that we were 2 girls, a few of your staff thought we were a couple and even one server blew a kiss to my sister in law. - We noticed that once hotel staff knew we were not a couple they satrted to be nice to us. - We had no toilet paper for a whole day, we complaint twice about it and also no phone service in room, the phone had no cord!!! - water was running thru walls and into our plugs.. again we complaint to front desk but DID NOTHING!! We have videos - Last day we brought our luggage down to lobby and asked were we can leave our luggage they told us to leave them in the hallway. We did as we thought everydody will do the same, but nope later we realized the hotel had a luggage room to store your luggage!!! - One server in the buffet restaurant was rude to us the 4 days we saw him, giving us such a disgusting looks 😑 thinking we were a couple. Overall i will not book again in this hotel. We've been to Cuba more than 7 times with our own families and this was our 1st time it was just my sister in law and me and never felt the way we felt this TIME. All resorts we've been customer service is been GREAT!!

Iberostar Selection Holguin: Fantastic resort!

Had a great time! A group of us went to celebrate my brothers birthday. The staff made sure it was a special day for his 50th. The hotel room was exceptional for Cuba. Very clean and modern. The pool was great and the beach was clean. The beach bar was a great meeting place for us. And the bar tender was a lot of fun. The lobby bar was packed every night so you had to make sure you got there early enough to get chairs. Also there wasn’t a huge selection at the buffet but we never left hungry. The Japanese restaurant was the best. The show was great and the food was very good. Don’t get the fish soup though. That was terrible. The restaurant brought out a birthday cake for my brother and it was wonderful! The staff even sang for him. Wonderful time! Do not exchange your Canadian money. The locals will give you par for it. They will charge you extra if you pay in pesos. Not completely sure why this is but that’s the way it’s working now. The locals are hurting extremely badly because of Covid and the lack of diesel. They can’t get supplies as the transport industry isn’t running up to par. They are very appreciative of anything you give them from money to clothes to medicine. All in all we had a fantastic time and will definitely go back.

Iberostar Origin Playa Alameda: Not a 4.5 star hotel, maybe a 3

This hotel is old. In our room, the safe was not attached to anything, the patio door couldn't open, bedding was stained. This was fixed after we spoke to the front desk. Bathrooms on resort were terrible. Most of the time there was no toilet paper, no soap to wash hands, broken locks on doors, toilets wouldn't flush, no water to wash hands. Grounds looked okay. None of the large water fountains were working and the pool must of had a leak because the water level was down by a foot. The entertainment was not great except for one night there was a 3 piece band that was good. However after all that, the beach was great and the people that work there are awesome!!....so friendly and helpful and always a smile on their faces. Everyone we spoke to was disappointed. There also was no rye, vodka, gin or any cream drinks(Baileys, Amaretto) Wine seemed watered down.

Royalton Hicacos Resort and Spa: Spectacular Resort!

We upgraded to the Diamond Service and felt pampered. They provided a free excursion with the Diamond Service and we chose the snorkle/diving tour. I am not that into snorkeling so I just stayed on board with the awesome Captain George for the short snorkle stop and then off to a beautiful island barbeque. We found the food at this tour and at the resort to be very tasty and of good variety as we booked a different night at the various restaurants at the Resort. We especially loved the Cuban Res [... read more]taurant which provided a unique menu of Cuban dishes. There were lots of other places to grab snacks including icecream and other snack stations. If you love seafood the lobster apparently was absolutely amazing... I couldn't eat it due to allergies but others were really impressed. A very special part of the Diamond Service is your assigned Butler. Ours was Marty - a lady who would go above and beyond to ensure all of her assigned Diamond vacationers had all of their concerns addressed. Ronald was our other Butler for Marty's day off. Equally friendly. All of the staff really went out of their way to be friendly and helpful. The bellhop Raul at the front desk was particularly helpful to us arranging transportation, assisting with luggage. Servicing staff went out of their way and we had three special employees that would see us coming and quickly find us a table and bring us the drinks they remembered we liked: Thank you to waiter Raul and waitresses Jenny and Anna. The bar staff, pool bar staff, entertainment and so on, were very welcoming. The main reason I booked this resort was the beautiful pools, with many bridges, tiny waterfall, swim up pool bar and the many thatched roof buildings. I think if they removed the beauty of the thatched roofs I may have overlooked it. But the photos definitely resemble the beauty you will find at this resort. We loved our room, it overlooked a beautiful garden area. The nightly entertainment was a surprise. Shows were provided in a large outdoor theatre with awesome performances, good sound quality. Beach had warm silky soft sand with private beach bar for Diamond Members. If we are lucky enough to go to Cuba again I would definitely book this resort. Only 15 min into Veradero in those cool old convertibles - awesome location. The only thing we found lacking was the Diamond Service said there would be beer in our room fridge daily - but this service was only provided on the first night. We checked every day with Diamond Club and they were always waiting for a shipment. Wouldn't deter me from going back.

Iberostar Origin Laguna Azul: Beautiful Resort

The Iberostar Laguna Azul is a beautiful resort; The beaches and staff are second to none. You will however have to adjust to some deficiencies. Always have toilet paper with you. In public areas, once the roll empties it will stay that way until morning. Bring hand sanitizer as well. There are several hand sanitizer dispensers around the resort but they are all empty and when the soap in the bathrooms empty they too will stay that way until the morning. Other than adapting to the lack of h [... read more]ygiene products the Laguna Azul is a lovely resort with clean rooms, lovely staff, great views and a beautiful beach. Make sure you check out the spa on the 5th floor. It's not really advertised but they offer a fabulous massage!

Grand Aston Cayo Las Brujas: Not Bad

Pros: Nice resort, modern, clean, staff was awesome, food was good we never went hungry. We stayed on the adult side which was nice and quiet and pool was clean. Cons: Beach was nice but....going into the water was not! It was not firm packed sand in the water you sink into the muck. The toilet in our room had a continually leak and every 15 sec. it would fill with a big gushing noise all day and night. After reporting it 3 or 4 times someone came to see it but only slowed it up so it gu [... read more]shed every 45 sec. The second day we were there we noticed water flowing by the building when we were on our balcony. Turns out there was a leak in the sewage tank from under our building. It was very smelly and it was never fixed.

Hotel Los Cactus: Our Cuban Home

This is our 18th stay at this resort. Our expectations are in balance with the standards of resorts in Cuba. The staff at Los Cactus are very diligent with cleaning in response to Covid. We experienced no concerns with the sanitary conditions. The economy in Cuba and the small number of guests caused some reduction in serving staff, entertainment and selection at the buffet. Playa Pesquero: Very nice place & wonderful people

The resort is so nice especially for a family vacation. Might come back again soon. A lot of activities and you will not get bored. Beach is good and you and you can do a lot of activities. The SPA is great too.

Melia Costa Rey: After a pandemic like the world felt this is a Great place to recharge

Everything was clean and very well Manicured. The buffet as well as the a la carte restaurants held a very high standard in the foods available and served, to which the camareras y los camareros were very friendly

Iberostar Coral Holguin: Nice

Very pleased with Coral L. Our first time there. The staff were so pleasant and helpful. The tasty food was very enjoyable. The grounds were lovely and well kept. Never did make it to the beach, maybe next time. Spent so much time in the pool and loved it. Felt so spoiled having butler and room service. Looking forward to the next time.

Melia Jardines del Rey: Awesome Trip!

I spent the last week at this resort. The people who work there are awesome. They go above and beyond to accommodate all of your needs. The food was ok, not the best, but it was ok. The beach was wonderful other than the coral that had come up on the shoreline from the Hurricanes that they have had. The water was warm and refreshing. Always music playing on the beach, and the beach guys were amazing at getting chairs for you and sweeping them off. Overall I would rate this resort a 7/ [... read more]10. All but the food was amazing. The waitress Dayma was excellent. She knew exactly what we drank and saw us coming and brought it over just as we sat down at the tables. The bartender was wonderful. Very polite and well-mannered individuals. The resort is massive size and our room was down in the back corner of the resort, so everything seemed so far to walk. I have bad back and hips, so if I go the next time I will ask for a room closer to the lobby as this is where the buffet and pretty much everything is going on except for the beach.

Roc Barlovento: Beautiful little resort

We have been to this property for many years. We love the size, location, and most of all the beaches. The staff is always very friendly and welcoming. Like every other country they have suffered very much because of CoVid. Supplies are limited and sometimes non-existing, they work hard with what they have. CoVid has set them back 10 to 15 years. But still great to visit. With the change of money their government has made it extremely hard for them to buy groceries and supplies for their househ [... read more]old. People are rationed. We will go back as we enjoy the ocean and beaches, and the kindest people in the world.

Melia Las Dunas: Great Resort

Well kept resort, Grounds and Gardens amazing, Staff very friendly, One negative review, Early morning departure Electric Transportation broken down, No plan to help clients, especially the elderly who had to lug luggage from 2nd floor and pull luggage (some from a great distance) to lobby.

Hotel grounds were massive.Golf carts a little slow., but they were really nice. Japanese best restaurant. Alendro (cust serv)👍. ** Arie, Ray, Mitch, Odalis (entertainment) kept a good vibe. Vila Gale Cayo Santa Maria: Wonderful Resort

This resort is beautiful and modern. The place is really clean and well taken care of. The beach is amazing and we loved the pools, especially the east pool. The bartender Edgar was really nice and very helpful. The food is ok, you never go hungry. Our chambermaid was awesome. She always made something cute out of the towels. I would go to this resort again

The resort itself was beautiful, the gardens and trees was amazing. All the staff were fantastic people, got to know a few of them in the short time I was there. The rooms were good, except ran out of toilet paper one day when it was needed. So now for the bad part, cockroaches in our food. They were everywhere in the buffet restaurant. He gave me a cream that I use twice a day and two kinds of pills, one I take 4 times a day and the other one once a day. I would really appreciate it if f I could get some kind of discount for the horror of cockroaches. Left my luggage outside when I got home after they might be in there. I left lousy after seeing cockroaches and fleas. Disgusted 🤢 not to happy. Disappointed in trip☹️

Tryp Cayo Coco: Safe Resort

One of the safest resorts in Cuba!! I have been going there for over 10 years would not even consider going to another the Tryp Cayo Coco is an excellent place for everyone. Hotel Atlantico: a nice place to stay

especially the Playas del Este beach is very nice and just behind the hotel but what i have learned from frequent travelers to this place is that hey did not use the COVID timeout to improve that place which came down for some people as moisture in the wall, very worn out bathroom-tabs . Also the once free bus shuttle to Havana from the Hotel does not exist anymore.You can use a comfortable bus runnning almost hourly from 10 to 5pm all day as often as you want for 5 CAD or the local A45 to the v [... read more]ia Blanca (or walk up there in 30 minutes) and from there the A40 for 2 CUP each. They run from 5AM to 1AM but are always packed full with peoples. The Covid related loss of tourism and income shows a lot all over Havana from falling apart ( not maintained) buildings over higher prices for Cigars to Duty free stuff at the Varadero Airport. They are in desperate need for devises and the tourist is the only cow that they can milk. What remains is the friendliness and cheerfulness of the Cubans.which makes up for some of the shortcomings. .

I can’t say I’d recommend this resort to anyone. I was travelling alone this time so my standards aren’t what they would be if I was with someone important. Food was substandard, I expected this from the country however, this particular resorts selection was less than limited. A la cart was always followed by a trip to the buffet to top up or to forget what you did eat at the restaurants. Rusted fixtures in the bathrooms and water was hit and miss for washing. I didn’t like begging for water in my room either. I never did receive a new towel my entire stay. Getting a towel from the pool cabana was a bit of an ordeal. Checking in was fine however the lack of communication as to where to get anything was left up to the guest to find out. Bed sheets had holes in them and the door to the balcony couldn’t be opened by someone elderly I’m sure. Batteries for the safe in the room were done so that couldn’t be used. Nightly entertainment was “ok”. But again, you had to listen to hear where it was on the resort to find it. I’m not sure how this resort had the rating it did. If this is a 4 star then it’s a one star ANY where else in the Caribbean. I won’t be back. I do understand the hurdles Cuba has to go over in order to get what they do have. This will be my last time visiting the country for a very long time. I would have hated to bring my son or significant other to this place. It would have been embarrassing to be honest.
