Starfish Cuatro Palmas: Amazing resort

We just got back from starfish cuatro palmas. Food was excellent and plentiful, rooms were clean, public bathroom were clean and had flowers in them Entertainment was outstanding and the rock band was the highlight of the entertainment. Beach was amazing. Staff were beyond pleasant and helpful. Will definitely be back.

Palma Real: Fantastic

All around fantastic place. It was my frist time in Cuba! Great hostipailty, food was also great. I would deffentally consider staying here again, and would encourage others to stay there as well. The entertainment Was Great. The only disappointing thing was that the disco was closed for renos. I would Hope It is open next time if I was to go. Thanks for help making the frist time in Cuba to be a one to remember.

Villa Tortuga: Good resort, but..

The resort is beautiful. The employees are nice and friendly. I didn't like that in order to reserve a chair at the beach or at the pool you literally had to wake up at 4am. For my husband and I, it was impossible, we have a 6 months old baby. If you wake up at 7 or 8 am too bad for you there were no more chairs left anywhere. Some people used to wake up at 3 am and reserved 20 chairs for their families and friends then there were none left for other. The staff did not intervene in that aspect. [... read more] We were placed on the third floor with no elevator, so to bring all the suitcases, the baby stuff, the stroller, it was not easy and the same when we went outside during the day carrying the baby bag, the beach bag, the stroller up and down. The hotel is supposed to be kids-friendly but there were no changing table anywhere, we either had to go back to our hotel room to change her diaper or change her directly on her stroller.

Playa Caleta: another great trip to the Puntarena

The weather was awesome, the beach is beautiful, all the staff are friendly and helpful, my room was great and clean with an ocean view that was amazing. the food was good and plentiful with lots of seating in the dining room, some things could be a bit hotter but hard to do that when dealing with so much food. the fish is really good and the ice crème is delicious. Have stayed here countless times and will return to the Puntarena

Melia Peninsula Varadero: Would recommend!

We just returned from a one week stay with our two children ages 10 & 12. The staff were amazing! Always greeted with a warm smile and willing to help. (The lady making the breakfast omelets was so sweet!) Beach was beautiful spent most of our time there. Lots of palapa and loungers. The food was okay (we didn’t go hungry or get sick). Beach buffet had a nice bbq going at lunch that we all enjoyed and the Japanese al-carte was very entertaining. All in all we were very happy with our experie [... read more]nce! We always felt very safe, had a lot of fun and left with no complaints.

Iberostar Origin Laguna Azul: Great Atmosphere

Resort is well laid out and everything is close by. There could be a bit more variety of food during the off times of the buffet. Pools are great with lots of options. Around the swim up bar is a lot of fun if you like crowds and mingling. The beach is perfection!

Paradisus Princesa Del Mar: Fantastic Resort!

Resort was great! Staff were very friendly and helpful! Food was not bad not a big selection to choose from same selection everyday. Beach was amazing as well as swim up pool on the Royal service side food was a lot better. Fitness Centre was good however was not very big and was very busy especially early in the morning.

Roc Arenas Doradas: Very good resort !

We spend a very good time in the resort for a week. The beach was amazing! The staff was very kind and helpful. The kids had wonderful time in the Mini club. Special Thanks to Eduardo from the restaurant that he was always with a big smile and always on time with our drinks :-)

Valentin El Patriarca Varadero: nice resort , but needs lots of work since the big wind storm.

Grand Memories Varadero: Good with problems

There were lots of issues, if you just want to get away to the beach for getaway, it is a good resort. There are lot of things that do not make this a 4 star when we were there, we encountered several thing that were problems. As our flight was delayed on take off, we arrived later than scheduled to the resort. There was no one at the diamond club area to check in with, they did take us to the check in at the front desk. We could not find anyone to show us to our room, the area is a little  [... read more]dark at night to find your way around. First the room keys did not work the first night when we arrived. The room were clean but room cleaning did not happen until around the 4:30 pm. We were short some towels, no face cloths for my wife. The beach was nice, the people at the resort were very nice and helpful. I would recommend paying the extra for the Diamond Club You will get your own entrance to the buffet and will get more option when booking the restaurants. The only other option would be Sanctuary this is the all adult area. A lot of the bathrooms were out of order through out the resort. From the information I see from sunwing they may be a couple of years out of date, as per what the people in Cuba told us. They seem to be working on the resort and this may have been due to the storms that went through the area. Over all I would not rate Grand Memories more than a 3 star at this time.

Hotel Los Cactus: Calm and Relaxing

We stayed at Los Cactus at the end of February and found it very pleasant although it did have a few areas lacking. The rooms were clean and well kept. The lobby and dining areas were beautiful. We especially loved the beach with its free water services and extremely helpful staff that were available to set up umbrellas and chairs wherever you wanted; we never had to worry about getting up early in order to claim a spot. We did wish there were more activities held throughout the day and that the [... read more]y could have been held earlier, often there was nothing planned by the pool until after 4pm. We also found that there was very limited food options with few alternatives for vegetarians, made more difficult by the fact that their dining schedule is again very late, with the buffet not opening until after 7 at night; however, the food that was available was decent. The only truly negative experience we had was with their spa service. The hotel offers massages out of a room in the gym, we do not recommend using this service as it was clear that towels and sheets were not changed between massage clients. Overall though the staff were kind and attentive and this is a great spot for any adult that just wants to getaway and relax on the beach.

Melia Marina Varadero: Gets better & better....we'll be going back!

We visited the MMV two years in a row and noticed right away that they had made a lot of improvements since last year. For the 2nd time, we stayed in a spacious All-Inclusive Studio Marina Apartment which included a handy kitchenette (sink, stove, MCW, dishes), large closet w/plenty of hangers, king size bed, couch, table/chairs and a safe. The balcony had more than enough room (two loungers & a small table w/two chairs) which overlooked the Varadero Marina. The private pool bar is open from 10 to 6 with friendly bartenders who make the best drinks ever (you rock Juan Carlos). They have a small assortment of munchies but don't go to the pool bar 'hangry' expecting a big meal. We always bring munchies with us to Cuba...pringles, nuts, candy, etc. The resort is spread out so be prepared to walk a bit, however, if you're not in the mood to walk off the food and beverages...just call for a pick up from your room or flag down a golf cart driver. These guys are the best! They love to joke with you and they're so friendly and personable. We called for pick ups several times a day as someone in our party had a sore foot. There are plenty of markets a few minutes walk (or golf cart ride) down the pier to buy your souvenirs. The vendors will barter a little and are very nice to deal with. This is also where you’d go if you’re doing a water excursion. The staff are much more attentive in the buffet and in the lobby this year. We were very happy about this as getting a drink in the lobby bar last year was a struggle at times. Kudos to the management for implementing these improvements. The depth of the beach is much larger than it was last year. There are staff there to help you get your loungers setup and the beach bar serves refreshing drinks. They also have staff getting your drink orders from your beach chair. The beach restaurant is a great spot to take in lunch and the amazing view from the hill top. The food has really improved here. Don’t forget to tip the wait staff, the golf cart drivers, your maid, etc. The staff work hard whether they’re tipped or not. We brought gift items that are hard or expensive for them to buy in Cuba (shavers, deodorant, Ibuprofen, bandaids, antibiotic cream, etc) as well as a few bags of baby clothes. They’re so appreciative. When I handed Laura (7 mths pregnant) two bags of baby clothes, we both had tears in our eyes. Luckily, Laura was having a girl and I had brought girl clothes. There was a breeze most nights which kept the no-see-ums away. The 24-hour snack bar by the big pool could improve on what food they have available for the late arrivals, but you’ll find something to fill the hole. This hotel is one of the last drop offs from the airport which could take up to 1 to 1 ½ hours. The bathrooms on the bus are unusable. If you’re in a hurry to get to the hotel and get working on your all-inclusive stay, I would suggest taking a taxi (confirm the fare first). If you want to venture into Varadero, ask a golf cart driver to drop you off at the bus stop. It’s $5 per person for the entire day. Be sure to keep your bus ticket. There are plenty of markets, restaurants, bars and site seeing to be had. Be prepared to pay $1 to use a public washroom. Have fun in Cuba!

Roc Arenas Doradas: Nice resort

Food Beach and service was great. Rooms wasn't what you expect from Cuban resorts. Everything was working and in good condition. Staff was friendly and most of them yang people with smile on their faces. Best guys in the kitchen are Eduardo and Milena.

Iberostar Origin Playa Alameda: Iberostar Playa Alameda

This resort receives top marks for 2 services - exchanging money, and a la carte dinner reservations. There have been long lines to do this at every other resort I have stayed at. There were no lines to exchange money, and a very short line to book the a la carte dinner reservations at Iberostar Playa Alameda. The food was varied. Taco night was our favourite. And then a Japanese evening (sushi) was also fun. They made the most delicious donuts. Omelettes were good. Now.... the public washro [... read more]oms were often without toilet paper. And no one seemed to care when they were told. This happened repeatedly. And then, sadly, as were were preparing to leave - our key didn't work to get into our room. And then the person who was responsible for collecting the beach towels (which we were told to leave in our room) was obnoxious. She took about 30 minutes of our time, making sure we would leave our towels. I am not sure of the concern over the beach towels, but it was a very poor leaving experience. We had to be out of our room at 12 noon, but our bus didn't pick us up until 6:30 pm. The front desk told us to keep our towels until then and just bring them to the front desk. They should have told the maids!! Then when we took our luggage to the front desk to be held, the bell man told us there was no room for our luggage. It was frustrating afternoon. Customer service goes to the time the customer is on the bus!!

Villa Tortuga: ok resort

The staff was amazing and friendly and went out of there way to help. The grounds and rooms were very clean. The buffet was terrible ate outside the hotel tried one meal was very bad it is a closed room with no air and flies all over the food and restaurant not much of a selection at all. If you are staying here must upgrade to superior which is like a normal room most of the rooms the a/c does not work,no hot water most rooms have a safe but no doors. Hotel Bella Costa: Old & needs work!!

The grounds & beach were beautiful - could do with a little more flowers around the grounds. However, they have big plumbing problems - one friend was flooded out of her room upon arrival & phone didn't work. We were OK until our last night when the bathroom flooded completely & the sink plugged up. The hotel expected us to stay in the room for our final night & only moved us when we became aggressive - told them if we had to get up in the night to use the bathroom & slipped on the floor tha [... read more]t we would sue them - they promptly found us a room. The front desk was very unfriendly when we approached them about another room!! Also, the phone didn't work due to bare wires on the end of the cord. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone & wouldn't return myself.

Gran Caribe Playa Caleta: Good but lots of place for improvement

Lobby: Beautiful sitting area Elevators: dirty elevators, dont look like they got washed in a long time Food: a lot of improvements needed for the food. Only ate rice, cabbage, and turkey. Need a new chef. Beach: nice beach, no seaweed

Barcelo Solymar: Resort needs some TLC.

Third visit to Cuba because I love it! The beach and water are the best. First time at the Solymar. A pleasant resort but lots of TLC needed on the grounds and the pool areas. If you're a "foodie" or like a variety of tropical cocktails you will likely be disappointed. Main dining room fine but table tops and placemats were dirty.... not cleaned behind each guest. Club Karey: VERY POOR

WE WILL NOT GO BACK TO THIS RESORT. WE HAD SOME VERY DIFFICULT TIME, PEOPLE ACROSS FROM US VERY NOISY IN THE MIDDLE OF NIGHT, THE NEXT DAY THAT MAN IN THAT ROOM KICKED IN THE DOOR, EVERYTHING CAME FLYING INTO TO OUR DOOR, SINCE NO PHONES IN THE ROOM MY HUSBAND HAD TO WALK TO THE LOBBY AND ASK FOR HELP. WE WERE VERY AFRAID. WE BELIEVE THIS PERSON WAS DRUNK,. Club Karey: Club Karey Veraderra, DISAPPOINTED!!

This was our wedding anniversary 33 years, and we were looking forward to going away and celebrating, we were told when we booked we could change our money in to C U C at the hotel, but we could not, so we had to wait 2 days for the banks to open. we had no hot water all week, the food was atrocious, we did not eat lunch or dinner,the sun,sea and sand was beautiful, Veraderra was great, but when you dont eat it obviously makes the trip not great. toilet paper is 1 roll per couple for the week!  [... read more]The ladies at reception were rude,and there customer service was atrocious,Checkout was at 12, but our shuttle was at 5, but the housekeeper came round and locked us out at 10am, so we could not leave the room! we will never go back, when you book to go anywhere from tripcentral ask if they have been to the resort, if they have not do not believe what they tell you.
