Barcelo Maya Tropical: Our 6th trip and still fabulous with so much to explore

The varied sports activities, superb and abundant food, fine and friendly staff and well maintained buildings made for another memorable vacation for us at Barcelo Maya Beach Resort. We were able to visit and enjoy the 4 other resorts in the same resort complex. The continuous wide and white sand beach in front of all 5 resorts was exceptional for walking. Activities we really liked included the hydrotherapy spa (part of our Premium package), the outdoor courts with Paddleball, Tennis, Pick [... read more]leball and Basketball and the outdoor pottery painting hut at the Beach. Dinner at La Fuente was elegant, served by Lidia was not rushed and the food was excellent. The many buffets in the adjoined resorts were even better than the last time we were there. This was our 6th trip to Barcelo Maya Beach Resort and certainly not our last. Congratulations and thanks to the staff and management team.

Barcelo Bavaro Beach: Everything for everyone

The Barcelo is a huge resort, our section the Bavaro beach adults only was perfect for people looking for a relaxing vacation. Small and convenient, everything was a short walk, pool, beach, buffet and bar.The rooms were in three storey bungalows that were clean comfortable a little dated but no issues. The food was tasty and lots of variety in the buffet. The pool, beach and ocean were great, chairs were usually available unless you arrived later. Staff were friendly and accommodating, I would have no problems returning there for another vacation.

Barcelo Bavaro Palace: Perfect Vacation!

We loved everything. So much for the entire family to do. Lots of food from around the world. The staff worked so hard and were so kind. Very clean and set up well. Highly, highly recommend to anyone.

Barcelo Bavaro Palace: Beautiful and so clean

The resort is huge but has a beautiful adult only pool. There are 2 buffet restaurants for breakfast and lunch and if you don't reserve a la carte restaurants for dinner, you are dining at the buffets for dinner as well. The food at the buffets and the a la carte's is mediocre. The staff is super nice.

Allegro Playacar: Beautiful resort

Grounds were very well maintained. Hotel room was always kept clean. Staff always pleasant and willing to accommodate. Food was good something for everyone good variety. Would stay there again for sure.

Occidental Papagayo: Okay Resort

Resort is very clean. Staff are attentive and aim to please. Food is unfortunately sub par. Very repetitious. Saw the same meals/food for 7 days. Not a place for anyone with walking issues. Can’t access the beach without going down narrow stairs. Also drinks from beach area is a walk. The shuttle is always available though and will drive you to areas where it is far to walk as there are many stairs. Good air conditioning in the rooms and showers have good pressure. Ladies on the beach give excel [... read more]lent massages. Overall okay vacation but if food is a priority for you, not the place to go.

Barcelo Solymar: Beautiful

The hotel was fairly decent. Could use some work but it’s clear there are limited supplies. Food wasn’t bad. They could use more snacks available between buffet hours. Staff was incredible. They did their best. Towels for the beach were difficult but they came through. Bungalow suite was perfect, again could use some maintenance but overall we were happy. Beach was incredible. Non motorized water sport are not included which was disappointing. Clean beautiful lobby.

Barcelo Maya Beach Resort: Unhelpful reception

Frustrating with the check in, staff could not provide us with the 2 queen beds that was agreed on. We tried every day to switch rooms to no avail. The commication between the front reception staff was terrible they promised to bring a cot to accommodate my son as he is very tall and too big for a pullout couch. I had to remind them over and over . I was trying to stay positive and relax something I really wanted to do all year. Occidental Caribe: Great vacation destination!

We loved our 9 days at Occidental Caribe. Check-in was slow but afterwards, everything was just perfect. The hotel is gorgeous, room was dated but comfortable and clean. The grounds are spectacular. The buffet had lots of variety and we always ate too much. The a la cartes were enjoyable. The pizza at the beach was to die for! We would definately go back! Barcelo Maya Riviera: Great time

Even though it was Easter weekend and busy we still had a great time. 2nd time there. First time was just pre covid and resort was new. Food was fantastic, staff were great, servers around the pool always checking on us. Cannot complain. Walked through all the Barcelo properties to explore. Can’t wait to go back to Barcelo Maya Riviera

Barcelo Maya Riviera: Amazing Geyaway!!

We thoroughly enjoyed this resort. Rooms were very spacious, bed was HUGE and comfortable. We did have problem with ants in our room when they had left us chocolate covered strawberries. Food was amazing and drinks were plentiful. Only downside was they only had one house white and one house red for all restaurants. The house red was horrible. You could buy a bottle of red for an exorbitant amount of money. The pools were fabulous and the beach was very spacious with the palms teees for shades a [... read more]nd chairs. Overall we will be going back. Loved it!!

Occidental Caribe: 2 star

The hotel looks very nice but unfortunately when you get your room regardless of upgrades or new room selection they are all very un clean … our rooms bathroom was really dirty the toilet paper roll was missing so it was left on the garage can that was dirty the shower had soap scum all over the glass and the tub was stained really bad… under the sink you could see dry blood on the walls. The tv didn’t work they finally sent someone to fix it on the last day of the trip. The air conditioner was really dirty and I believe the reason I left with a chest infection as so did other guests and they also figured it was from poor air. It took hours to check in and get the room situation figured out I feel I wasted a good part of the day especially when you only have a few days. The food was ok always the same but fruit was always fresh. The washrooms in lobby were always being cleaned…well mopped I didn’t see any cleaning other then a mop. The main pool outside was full of algae that was transferred to my husbands white t shirt …kinda gross.. The beach was beautiful and clean I wouldn’t recommend or return to this particular resort.

Terrible food. Service wasn’t good at all they just don’t care. Very busy, Very overbooked. Pools and beach were nice Other than that, I will never go back there. Stayed at a Barcelo in Mexico. Totally different experience. Came here on the advice of a travel agent.Big mistake.

Barcelo Maya Colonial: Enjoyment

Enjoyed our 10 day stay immensely with the caveat… this is a HUGE resort with NO transportation for people like me that do not walk distances well using a cane. Also, if you have mobility issues I would recommend asking if there is a room with a walk-in shower. Ours had a rather high sided tub making entrance and exit somewhat difficult.The only transportation is from lobby to lobby via double decker buses but nothing (as for example golf carts) to move people internally. Occidental at Xcaret Destination: A Great Resort with a Few Issues

This resort really is a hidden gem. The direct, walk in access to Xcaret is amazing and well worth the money. Pools are sprawling and warm. The wildlife throughout the ground also great. The beach cove was so perfect for toddlers and the net system does a good job of keeping the seaweed under control. We travelled in the last two weeks of March and the resort was full to capacity. Overall, there was a sense of being short staffed. The biggest issue, and the one I couldn’t get over, is that th [... read more]e resort required you to line up each day at 7AM to get a reservation at the ala carts. Every single freaking day. The lines were long and slow and if you didn’t get there until 8/8:30 there were no reservations left. If you have little children or large parties this system is totally unfair. We didn’t get to try a single ala cart and the buffet food was pretty inconsistent - some nights pretty terrible. We actually went into Playa a few nights because none of us could face another buffet night. Also some general issues with the room - AC wouldn’t cool below 24 etc. the room was just tired and the cleaning was a bit subpar. staff were really great to deal with and genuinely tried to set things right but there wasn’t much they could do. In all, I would definitely stay here again, but only if I was staying at the Royal Level so the food thing wasn’t an issue.

Barcelo Bavaro Palace: Amazing resort

The resort was amazing , the staff were very friendly , the buffet food was ok not bad But Al Cart restaurant were amazing you just need to book in advance. The entertainment team were amazing we had so much fun with them , special thanks to DEIVI and Carlos can’t thank you enough, you guys made our vacation special. The room were clean , the hotel washrooms were so clean I was so surprised.

Occidental Caribe: Beautiful beach!

The hotel was clean and mostly well maintained. The beach was great, clean and the chairs were well spaced out. It was difficult to get a 2nd coffee or glass of wine, probably to lack of staff. The food was plentiful and ok.

Barcelo Maya Tropical: Barcelo Maya Tropical

This resort was always clean and tidy. Overall, it was huge and this required a lot of walking to get anywhere. This made it inconvenient, especially for anyone who might have trouble walking longish distances. I would not recommend this resort to seniors and would not go back myself for this reason. I found that there was not much variety in the food in the buffets from one day to the next.

Barcelo Maya Tropical: Great pools and beach, terrible buffet food

The beach was beautiful and cleaned well of seaweed. The water was sparkling turquoise and warm. The sand was soft as silk. The pools were clean and the perfect temperature and depth. We especially loved the kids water park area at Tropical as we travelled with a six year old. It was dissapointing that we had to wake up at 5am each day run down to save loungers. I hate cooking but I would have preferred cooking to the buffet food. I was so disheartened to discover the entire resort didn’t have cream for coffee. Only milk. Seems small, but seriously. Cream for coffee is pretty standard. The rooms were clean and nice. I liked using the soap, shampoo and conditioner provided. I loved how the mini bar was stocked each day with bottles of water and pop. It would have been nice to have more than just Pepsi and 7Up. I’m not really a pop person but I did hear grumbles around the resort about lack of choices. Also, every day I passed at least ten people struggling to use their key card to enter their room. The mechanisms need replacing. Beautiful resort. Very large. Great for young people who can walk around easily. Not great for older people. We liked it but will look for something with better food options for our next trip.

Barcelo Bavaro Beach: Golf vacation

Rooms are dated. Not like the photos. Food was sub par or below, service in most restaurants terrible, shows were boring, Sport's bar was good, had an excellent variety of sports on the TV’s, pools were great, awesome beach, golf course in great shape.
