Aston Costa Verde Beach Resort: Worth the money

The Grounds were beautiful, staff were very friendly. The food was ok but the Buffett had the same choice everyday. Not much variety. The rooms were dated and the beds could be larger and softer, very hard mattresses.

Muthu Colonial Hotel: good

good,but hola rep not very good,transportation from resort to airport not booked properly and we waited one and and a half hours for bus,found out it was not booked and we had to demand transportation from the repr before she arranged properly.. We arrived hour hour before flight and got on flight with great diffultculty

Punta Peninsula Varadero: Not your typical "Cuban" resort!

Here is an honest first-hand review of Blau Marina Varadero. My family and I have been to many resorts in both Cuba and other sunshine destinations, with a strong preference for the 4+ or 5 star properties. Like most Canadians we generally come to Cuba because it's a low-cost alternative to the more expensive islands. We celebrated a 75th birthday at Blau Marina, and the resort exceeded our expectations by far. The buffet and restaurants were delicious and varied, we never felt like we were eating the same food over and over again. The grounds are lovely and well maintained, and the beaches absolutely breath-taking (Varadero 's beaches are said to be the finest in all the Caribbean). The rooms were spotless, modern and spacious. And although we were close to everything, at night the room was so quiet and very comfortable. The staff are warm and hospitable, and took enormous pride in their work and enjoyment in making our vacation as comfortable as possible. However special mention must go to Mr. Yunior Pérez Sixto for going out of his way to make our stay perfect, and for looking after us as if he was hosting his own parents. Also a great thank you to Dr. Rolando for his charm, charisma and kindness in looking after our needs. We truly felt like VIP guests. If we had to name one negative thing about our experience at Blau Marina, it was that it was a bit windy the first week we were there, but obviously that is beyond the resort's control. Our best advice to future guests would be this: if you want something, just ask! Part of the problem with bad reviews (not just for this resort but for any review for any resort) is that people are unhappy with something but do nothing to fix it. Our experience is that staff at all resorts (including this one) are only too happy to fix any problem or accommodate any request that is within their power to accommodate. And of course it goes without saying that your request should be courteous and polite. It's always easier to do something nice for a nice person than for someone whose standing on the other end of the counter yelling at you! :-) Thank you Blau Marina for such a wonderful, wonderful experience! We can't wait to return and enjoy your little piece of paradise in Cuba very soon!

Aston Costa Verde Beach Resort: Great resort

First time in Cuba. Recommend the blau costa verte Great time beautiful beach. Lots to see and do very friendly staff. Rent a scooter for the day. And explore the county side you will not be dissaponted.

Aston Costa Verde Beach Resort: Pretty good, but not great.

Nice grounds, lots of trees around, beautiful beach with lots of palapas, snorkelling right there, tons of chairs. Same food every night, but I guess that's par for the course in Cuba. We upgraded to Plus to get beside my sister. We ended up having ants in the riom for three days, which were attracted to the sugar packets that were there for coffee.

Punta Peninsula Varadero: not bad for Cuba

Not bad for cuba but this 5 star wouldn't be a 5 star any place else. Service was quite slow but friendly. The walk from my room to the main lobby and bar etc. Was quite long which made making trips back and forth exhausting but over all rating... not bad.

Aston Costa Verde Beach Resort: Great resort!!

We Upgraded to the "Plus" aka deluxe package. Excellent rooms, access to VIP pool and VIP bar, great beach, food was awesome, shows were average, grounds were well maintained, always lots of loungers and shade on the beach, bars everywhere, 24 hr snacks- cheeseburgers, fries, hot dogs, club sandwiches, ham and cheese sammich. Main dining area always had fresh made to order- chicken breast, pork, beef, fish and pastas for supper and lunch. Breakfasts consisted of fresh made to order omelettes, ba [... read more]con, pancakes, some cereals, numerous other breakfast choices, Bread was good but ran out at breakfast on 2 occasions. Bring ketchup, relish, Splenda and tea bags WIFI is pay for use- about $7.20 cdn/ hr. No high speed, make sure you follow the directions posted on the computer room door (even if you use your own device on WIFI) for logging off. I wasn't told about it and lost 55 minutes as I was given my pass and told nothjng about how to log off and since I sat in the lobby knew nothing about going to a web site to log off. I was told that the manager would look into it and get back to me but he/she never did, lost $7.20.

Blau Varadero: Great trip for group of family & friends!

Overall fantastic resort, great service. Two things it lost marks for with us was that the pool was cold and the mattresses were uncomfortable. The wonderful beach and great food made up for those two small complaints!

Punta Peninsula Varadero: Blau made my vacation memorable and amazing again

Well we stayed at Blau Marina Varadero from Jan 23rd until Feb 7th. From the check in, to the check out The staff was wonderfull. We stayed in a Oceanview Junior Suite. We lucked out we were in Block 16 (Adult Side) 3rd floor room 1642... from our balcony the View was Stunning, the adult beach, the Bright blue Ocean, the palm trees and just gorgeous. Only issue with my room was the air conditioning unit didn't always work but I am not there to complain, I never even told the front desk... I open [... read more]ed the door at night and left the sheers closed which gave me a beautiful breeze from the Ocean. Block 16 is Near the disco, near the beach, near the lobby, near 1 of many pool, near the 24hour snack bar... just a perfect location... There are many pools on the resort which are all beautiful, and they are spread out so that every area has their pool so no need to walk miles... The resort is made longer so pretty much every building is no more the 2 mins from the beach, this is truly a beach front Resort. The service in the lobby bar was amazing, a couple of the waiters that we made friends with were so good that we sometimes did not have time to sit at a table and the drinks were already there. The rooms were super clean, I have had no issues with cleanliness of my room and we were 4 rooms together and all the rooms were cleaned daily. The lobby had cleaners at all times and they were always going around doing floors, tables, bathrooms. Food, again I am not a fussy eater but the food at this resort BY FAR EXCEEDED all my expectations. The Buffet always had millions of amazing food, and some different things as well that you are sometimes willing to try... or not haha... out of all the A La CARTE restaurants I must say they were all good but the ITALIAN was SUPER Good, and they made you roll off the chairs as there was so much food... I gained 12lbs while away so if that tells you anything. Breakfast Buffet always had a huge selection of food and there are always 3 chefs at back counter as well making omelettes, eggs, pancakes, crepes and what not for you. Lunch buffet and supper buffet as well have 3-4 chefs at back counter where you can order certain things right then and the huge buffet selection to accompany. The disco is open Nightly until 1:30 AM, usually a pretty good time, gets busy around 12ish usually and all the way till close, then a lot of people gather up in the lobby and keep the party going. all kinds of non motorized sports include, pedal boats, kayak, small sail boats, included with your stay and they can be fun. the 24hour snack bar will serve mini pizzas all Day and the snack bar by the kid pool will serve fries, hot dogs and hamburgers all day. 24 hour snack bar is great if you see Maria and Eddy, they work every second night and you will love them they are amazing and a hoot... Eddy's food is always fresh and quick. Restaurants across the street at the marina are delicious, they are of course not included with your package but if you want to go somewhere near to eat something different, they have a Great Steakhouse and also a great Seafood Restaurant. Personally we go to town a lot, we went to eat in Matanza, Cardenas, Varadero, Havana and at local retaurants, not touristique places at all and the culture, the food, is amazing. I have been going to Cuba for MANY years and 2 times stayed at BLAU and they have been very memorable as they are not too big, not too small, you get to know your staff and you get amazing service. I have made too many Cuban Friends to stop going to Varadero now as that is the area they mostly live in so it is very convenient and for as long as I can do it I will keep going back to the Blau Marina Varadero, it is worth every cent you spend and as I said earlier in many years of going to Cuba this was one of my most favorable resort and I am DEFINATELY returning!

Punta Peninsula Varadero: Ok place

This place had a good mix of good bad and average. The good was the pool and the service there. Jimmy was great. The beach was great and there were always chairs. Check in was quick and friendly. Check out was a different story. I had to check out at 6 am because I was going on an excursion. The checkout person couldn't understand why I didn't have my towel card. The towel area closed before I came back from my excursion and still wasn't open but she wouldn't take the towel I had. So I left and  [... read more]said I'd bring it back later. I got another person later who tried telling me I checked out two days before. She did take my towel though. Gong show. The 24 hour bar was brutal. Trying to get a drink there was painful. Unless you had money in your had that they could see for a tip you weren't getting service. Sorry bad service means no tip. Overall an average stay. Nothing to make me want to return but nothing that I would say stay away.

Punta Peninsula Varadero: Nice resort at the end of the road

The resort was well maintained, grounds were in great shape, beach was Mint. Staff were all friendly. Little roadway traffic/noise as it's the last resort on the road. Beds weren't great. Food on the resort was less than desirable and that's why only 3 stars.

Punta Peninsula Varadero: Good Family Resort

It is very dated but that is common in Cuba. The staff is very good and the ground are well maintained. The white sand beach is very nice. This is a 3 star hotel and the food is 3 star but I would return.

Punta Peninsula Varadero: excellent resort

the resort itself was well maintained, the rooms were clean and everything worked. the people who work there were outstanding. the pool bar was always a great time and the weather was beautiful. we took the scooters into Varedaro for the day and had a good time shopping and trying a local bar out.

Punta Peninsula Varadero: Not a 4 star resort

The room was not clean and the beds were uncomfortable. It was noisy and the farthest away. There was no room service, including restocking the fridge or helping with our luggage. We had to get water from the front desk and after a few days they said they didn't have any and we had to buy it from the hotel shop. Most of our towels had black smudges, bird feces?, on them. The pool towels were stained. We were locked out of our room on our last day before checkout time. The food was tolerable for [... read more] the first 5 days. The restaurants were not kept clean. It was hard to find tables and chairs without visible bird droppings, even in the enclosed areas. The restrooms near the snack area had no toilet seat. In general, there were few restrooms and they were not clean. The nightly entertainment was fun but not professional. There was very little service with respect to pool waiters, baggage carriers, shuttles were not offered. My husband and I were both extremely sick on the 6th and 7th days. Food poisoning? We were very careful, trying to eat freshly prepared and hot meals. The food in the restaurants seemed to be the same in the buffets. I would not recommend this resort to anyone. I am disappointed and the experience makes me not want to go back to this area of Cuba. I thought I had done my research and had made a good choice, especially because it was a choice presented by a travel agency.

Punta Peninsula Varadero: amazing resort

The grounds were wonderful, had lots of walkways, different pool areas and two different areas for beaches. The dinning was very good. Had 4 different restaurants to eat in as well as the buffet area. Then there were 2 other areas to eat if the buffet area was closed. This resort had a number of activities that could've kept me busy all day if I wanted to participate. I found early morning beach walks amazing. Punta Peninsula Varadero: Ideal Resort

This resort had everything one requires when on an all-inclusive vacation! The accommodations were clean and roomy, the staff friendly and helpful, the amenities covered all the needs! The gym could use some updating and for sure put some matts inside; a "yoga" bldg. across the walkway from the gym was full of matts but guests were not allowed to utilize them unless doing "yoga" activities. The beach area was clean and there were plenty of chairs/umbrellas for everyone. The food was typical Cuba [... read more]n style but more than enough varieties to curb any diet. The resort is located the furthest from Varadero but no concerns walking/running alone there. The double-decker bus for $5. is a great option to travel around.

Punta Peninsula Varadero: Lovely Resort

This resort was incredible. We stayed in the Privileged Section. for us not having kids around was a plus - we wanted a quiet, restful vacation and we got it. View was awesome, all rooms had a view of either the Atlantic or the Marina. Food was the best we have ever had in Cuba and this is our 15th trip. Staff was helpful and lovely. Always wanting to ensure that things were right. One not so nice thing, the Reception for our area, staff need to have a better grasp of the English Language. We ha [... read more]d a couple of minor things to get fixed in our room and after the 3rd time asking, it still wasn't done. They just didn't understand what we were talking about. Beds we harder than we like and the pillows need to be updated. Not comfortable at all.

Muthu Colonial Hotel: Amazing resort

We loved everything about this hotel. The food was excellent and the rooms very large and clean. The staff were A1, there is not one thing we can complain about. There was a smell of septic one evening near the lobby but they were busy and we did not smell it again. We stayed in block 32 and want to stay there again. Great place for families, friends and retired couples.

Muthu Colonial Hotel: Amazing week at the Colonial

I must admit that after seeing the reviews on line, I was very nervous about choosing the Colonial. Our family of four went from Jan 28 -Feb 4, 2015 and absolutely LOVED it. Really not sure what all the negative comments are about. The resort is small....and has lots of great places to hang out. It has the feel of a spanish village vs. an American plush resort. Close to the pool and lots of other amenities. Quiet. Our maid was amazing. Lovely personality. Rooms were kept spotless. Safe in the room - worked great. Both pools are open and good. The beach is incredible. White smooth sand. Aqua water. Can walk for miles. The food is ok. It's Cuba. You don't come to Cuba for the food. At the buffet the meat grill was typically good.....pasta bar......omelettes for breakfast......some other things not so sure about.... Three a la carte restaurants. Highly recommend the Italian one. Entertainment at night was lovely and lots of fun. Interactive, cuban music. Michael Jackson show was FANTASTIC! Staff were friendly and helpful. Yes, there are some renos and construction going on - but it did not get in the way of anything. The older buildings that are needing work are closed down. We really enjoyed our time. It is a great resort and I would highly recommend it. I think the key is to understand you are at a resort that is more typical of Cuban culture, and if you are able to relax, enjoy that and go with the flow.....you will love it!

Muthu Colonial Hotel: Great Vacation!

When we saw that this hotel was a 3.5 in Cuba, we really were not sure what we were getting ourselves into, but other reviews were really good and the price was great. Overall, we would give it a 4 star for sure! We found the food to be pretty good (remember you are in Cuba), but who can complain about fresh coconuts everyday, freshly squeezed orange juice, delicious coffee, and yummy grilled seafood everyday?? I also found that I would have a big heaping salad everyday and it was delicious with [... read more] fresh fruit. The staff were amazing. We had one issue with our room (started to smell like swage on the 3rd day) but they switched our room right away and even gave us a choice between three rooms. We were really taken care of. We didn't find it over crowded at all and were impressed with the beach. All in all it was a great vacation for us and we would return.
