Great Beaches and Wonderful People

I am single and was travelling with friends who are a couple. I felt safe on the resort at all times. The rooms have some peeling paint but they were clean and comfortable and who spends time in the rooms anyway? The beach was beautiful, the pools were great, service was wonderful all around. The food was good great poutine at the snack bar by the square pool and great breakfast ar the 24 hour snack bar. There is a great little pizza place just off the resort that we made a few visits too. Over  [... read more]all I would say this was a great experience, the only drawback I found at this resort was the lack of a lot of night life, but there was always somebody to share drinks and laughs with at the 24 hour snack bar.

Nice resort

The resort was very nice. The beaches were stunning, easy access, clean and there were enough chairs for everyone. There is a beautiful walkway for a great walk along the beach. The resort grounds were well kept and clean. The staff was always cleaning, planting new plants or repairing. The pools were a little clouding, but no chlorine used so you didn't smell like a bottle of bleach when you left the pool. The pools were cleaned every morning. We ate there twice, once buffet and once ala carte, the staff was younger there and did not want to anything but stand around in the buffet area and the ala carte brought us dessert before we got our meal. To bad because the bungalow staff was brilliant. The rooms although not fancy were very clean and spacious, stayed in the bungalows. The food was excellent. If you are looking for pefab North American food, maybe go to Florida. The food is fresh and home made. The bread and ice cream are to die for and its been a long time since I have eaten a tomato with some flavour. The entertainment was also fun. Get a massage and take the horse and buggy ride, both very inexpensive and worth every penny.

Great spot with lots of variety and friendly peopl

Really nice beaches, large and spread out facilities with all kind of variety for food and drinks. Super friendly staff and good service. Nightly entertainment was way above any expectations and a nice mix of people. Food was good with lots of options. Not a huge change in the daily offerings though. Transport to and from airport was super easy.

Good Resort

The grounds were well kept, pools were nice, beaches were beautiful! The food was average. L'Espada was the best A La Carte. Rooms were outdated but clean. There is a great market just beside the resort.

Wonderful Resort

The hotel was great the people who worked on the resort were wonderful as always!! Been to this resort 5 times now and its always great to go back Couldn't ask for anything more!! Even going off the resort in which I recommend , the people are Great! so very friendly, Always welcome you into the homes offer food if they have it or a drink

Best value for the Dollar - Solid 3*

I have stayed at this hotel a total of 10 times, enjoy it every visit. Excellent value for what you pay, went last minute for $584 pp. txs incl. Large resort with lots of options for eating, drinking. Beach is busy. Rooms adequate.

Terrible rooms, terrible service

Rooms were disgusting, front rest not attentive. Repetitive food but lots of variety. Unfriendly staff. Was supposed to get a free upgrade with proof of marriage certificate but they charged us. Not a resort to go on a budget.

Excellent service!!!

The staff were exceptional, every day! The rooms were clean and the food was FANTASTIC! Everyone was very friendly and helpful, there are multiple excursions off site but lots to do on site! I would recommend this resort to anyone!

Nice location

problem in getting a fair opportunity for ocean view villa, front desk help was no help, never a manager to speak with food is fair, and that does not pose a problem getting beach chairs, and having to pay for them is a problem

Beautiful resort but watch out for room selection.

Club Amigo Resort has mixed reviews for our family. Beautiful view. Amazing sceneries. Gorgeous pools. Out of this world snorkeling. Incredible heat! Lots of shade. Great bartenders. The rooms we upgrated to, the Villas, were very nice and spacious and ocean view. The negatives: #1 typical Cuban food (bland) #2 our reserved rooms (Garden View rooms) were minuscule, had horrible mattresses, no view, no balcony and were in the back of the resort. The Villas are 10 times nicer than the other rooms: [... read more] totally worth upgrating. #4The service at the front desk was slow and inconsistent. We had to beg to get a Villa room. #5 Electricity and hot water were on 98% of the time. Power outages were mostly in the morning. We would definately go back but would make sure we reserved the Villas upfront.

Amazing resort

I truly enjoyed this resort. We stayed in a villa room and loved it. The grounds are well kept, the many pools were amazing, the beach is to die for. Snorkled to the reef in front of resort. Food was acceptable.

Great time on this resort

the resort is amazing...food was great, this is our 4th time there and the food has gotten way better...love the a le carte's..ashleys café is great...wonderful staff there,,miquel is awesome makes the best cappuchinos..and does the nicest art work,,,,the only complaint is the entertainment,,,,and only the Cuban cabaret band ,it plays way to many times in the run of 10 days and they sing the same old songs everytime...should try some more upbeat new songs..and for the young people would be nice [... read more] for some modern music....all the other entertainment was great,,loved the watershow, and the acrobats.....the rooms were really clean, we stayed in a villa and it was great...see u all next year.

Exactly what our tripcentral told us it would be !

We wanted a inexpensive week in the sun. Our tripadvisor told us it was reported to be older but clean, had a great beach and it was big so lots of places to go. She was bang on very clean room older yes, great pools and beautiful beach. Sun and great tempratures,wonderful staff who did there very best. Exactly what we wanted and expected thanks Krista we had a great time.

Great value resort

As long as a beautiful beach and great people are what you're looking for, you'll be incredibly happy if you choose this resort. It had everything we needed! We are not fussy people, our room was clean, our drinks were plenty and we enjoyed 10 great days in the sun. I would recommend this resort to everyone!

Decent Resort

very large resort - 4 pools and tons of places to eat. stayed in main hotel and room was quite damp, would recommend upgrade to Villa or Bungalow. Always find something to eat, good location, staff wonderful.

Additions & Improvements

Grounds: Buildings newly painted, looking great. Gardeners out everyday picking up fallen leaves to keep a tidy look. A very large resort with many areas to explore. A short walk to local market that supplies all of Guardalavaca, Holguin resorts. Dining: 2 Buffets, 6 Snack Bars , a 24 hour bar, a la cartes that you already received a date and time to go, at check-in , so didn't have to wait in a long line to sign up this time!!! Much Better! 2 swim-up bars, and the new Pirate Bar at the Christo [... read more]pher Columbus beach. Pirate takes a long time to open but certainly has a little more pride in making the drinks. Fruit etc in your drinks. Not sure why Lounge chairs are locked up at this beach even after 11am when staff have been on duty for awhile.? Snack bars seemed to shut down early each day with waitresses saying they have no food left. Is it because I don't tip everytime I go to bar? Other people are getting food! Rooms: We were in Bungalows which I feel were best for us because of our mobility issues. Everything was close. Snack bars, buffet, swim up bar, coffee bar, bank, (not sure why Main Hotel bank was closed all week?) Heard they went bankrupt. The only thing we had a bit of walking for was the beach and 24 hour bar,and we just pre planned so we didn't have too much extra walking.

Awesome place

We just spent a week at Club Amigo and I must say we had an awesome time. The resort was older but was very clean, rooms were cleaned daily. There was not a problem finding food to eat or drinks. The night life was great from nightly shows to disco. The staff were awesome . The vibe at this resort was up beat and fun

A great resort!

This was our fourth stay at Club Amigo Guardalavarca. Needless to say we love the rural area, which is safe to explore, the friendliness of resort staff and guests. Other highlights include the fact that there are four pool areas, so you can choose a quiet pool to relax by or a vibrant one with lots of activity! The public beach adjacent to the resort is gorgeous and although busy, there is never a concern about finding a lounger and shady spot to relax in between swims. Being public, it also al [... read more]lows one to mix with local Cubans if you wish to do so. No sales harassment on the beach, just a few people selling snacks. There are always improvements each time we go and this year we were pleased to see more a la carte dinners available each evening, a second swim up bar and the opening of a tea room in a lovely garden setting in the main hotel. A great, friendly resort for family, couples or singles!

Beautiful beaches!!

Just returned from club amigo. It has a beautiful beach! The snorkel which is quite close to shore was fantastic! The fish were outstanding! There is lots to do at this resort, there are 4 pools the main pool close to the beach is were most of the action is but each pool has a bar and snack bar. The grounds are well taken care of and there is always someone taking care of it! This is a three star hotel and if you are looking to relax and enjoy the sun this is a great place! The food is what it i [... read more]s on Cuba but you can always find something to eat. The best a la cartes were the Italian and vegetarian! All in all a great vacation!!

We like it, but villas are worth the extra $

This was our second trip to this resort. Last time we got villas, this time we tried the gardenview section. They are cheaper, very old and dated, tiny, dark and not all have balcony access. Get a villa, if you can afford it. If you really don't care where you lay your head, gardenview will be fine. But be prepared for lesser accommodations for less money!
