Starfish Jibacoa: Beautiful Villas

This was my sister and myself first time. We travelled with our sister and sister-in-law we had an amazing time. Villas were clean and staff was amazing. The food was great along with the service everyone was great. Nice little store we visited and went up the hill for supper one evening by horse and buggy…so lovely. Will definitely return again.

This was our 23 time at the villas. This was the best yet. There was lots of good food and a huge selection. The pool was great and the people are like family so kind simply beautiful people.. our room was spotless plus the grounds were beautiful. I can hardly wait till next November for our 24 time.

Hotel Bella Costa: 15 years and counting

Iberostar Origin Playa Alameda: Iberostar Alameda

No diet drinks, no fruit ,only rum to drink, no drinks in our hotel room, food was awful water dripping from our ceiling, could not shut off our air conditioning we where freezing and had trouble opening our room door.and had bad wifi Also resort did not meet Sunwing’s brochure description this was not a 5 star maybe 2 no premium drinks no frozen drinks no drinks in our room fridge deck loungers broken would no go there again or go with sunwing

L'hôtel est bien, j'ai été déçue de ne pas avoir tout de suite ma chambre avec vue sur l'océan. J'ai dû attendre 62 jours pour l'avoir. Le prix était trop cher car j'ai discuté avec des touristes qui ont payé beaucoup moins cher.

Hotel Playa Paraiso: Wonderful resort

Our vacation was wonderful - the resort was very well kept. The staff were AMAZING, kind, friendly, helpful and just very genuine. There was no shortage of anything... food and drinks were abundant. Our rooms were very clean and comfortable (except the pillows, bring your own if you can). The Lobby is great social gathering place in the evening - go watch a show and have a few drinks on the house! The pool and surrounding area was very well kept. The beach are is very nice - it gets a little rocky when you go too far left or right from the entrance, but if you stay central to enter, you are golden. Overall - nothing at all to complain about!! We even made some new friends. We will be back for sure!

Barcelo Solymar: Terrible

everyone in the hotel knew about my allergy to shellfish and a week ago in this hotel at the italian restaurant (snack bar) I had an allergy and ended up in the hospital because they did cross contamination, the hotel food was horrible, you can't eat any food outside from the snack bar and you have to be dry and eat your food sitting in the restaurant you can't take the food out they only have chicken sandwich most of the time they often put chlorine in the pool at 10am when people are in the po [... read more]ol , at night the hotel is very dark it has very little light , the rooms have ants , the hot water takes time to arrive , my safe did not work , I do not recommend this hotel and less to people with allergies

Iberostar Origin Playa Pilar: Not bad.

Been here a few times, staff are great. Some small detail care like paint, caulking, mirrors without rust would go a long way to make it really nice. Our AC didn’t work, told them a few times and it never got fixed. Food has gotten better over time, drinks are good. There was no cola but that is t a resort issue it is in shortage in Cuba. Better lighting along walkways is needed for heading back to your room. But overall a decent place to spend a week.

Iberostar Coral Holguin: Exceptional resort

Resort was very nice and fairly new. Rooms were very nice and loved the fact that the toilet worked every time and that we had hot water for showers! I was disappointed in the quality of food as they didn’t have any pasta or any sort of potatoes! When asked they said they haven’t received any shipments of pasta or potatoes in a long time. No plastic water bottles anywhere was another issue but good for the environment. Staff were very friendly and easy to deal with! The beach is fairly far and if you have health issues you need to take a golf cart to it!i would go back for the right price but I like to experience new places!

Playa Vista Azul: Amazing resort

First time staying at Playa Vista Azul. The resort was beautiful clean .The service was excellent, staff was incredibly friendly and helpful.But most of all was meeting Hanny and Carlos,they made my vacation much more memorable,they were very kind and fun to be around. Great couple with kindness and love.

Melia Cayo Coco: The best in Cuba

Excellent hotel mainly for the staff also food. Have been a repeat customer for many times and I have to say that because of the continuous service of excellence, I will continue to travel to the melia as I have been every 3 months for the past 2 years.

Memories Caribe Beach Resort: Good times

Best cuban resort so far! Beats all the many 3-4* Varadero hotels I've visited. Beach is second to none Rooms are very good Resort is clean and friendly Service is adequate Food is typical cuba, but more limited options Bug bites for some, but most had none. I will definitely return, and go to Lenny's for $25 lobster more often...

Memories Caribe Beach Resort: Cuba is Cuba

This being our third time there, the last 3 years ago pre covid we weren't expecting a lot. The grounds are well maintained. Being the rainy season everywhere was very green. Lots of bugs at the beach. People calling them sand fleas. I am not a bug expert but was bitten more than a hundred times the first week at the beach. My skin did not react but my wife really suffered. We were there for 2 weeks and after the first she just wanted to come home. Luckily we had Reactine & Benadryl whic [... read more]h helped her. The second week we adjusted our schedule and would only go to the beach to go in the water and then back to the pool. The pool area was very well maintained and clean. We kept away from the bushes and zero problems. We also kept in the windiest areas areas to put the chances of bugs on our side. We paid for an upgrade to a suite and really enjoyed it. The bathroom was redone and the main area was 2 levels with lots of room. The A/C worked perfectly with a large TV that pivoted from bed to sofa. As there are just 4 units in the suites we had zero problems with noise. The personnel were in general very friendly and helpful. Money! Don't change your money into Cuban pesos. They don't want it. Give regular tips in loonies & toonies. Still no good, because the Cuban banks don't accept them. But... Take 5,10,20 bills and change them for loonies and toonies to carry on giving tips. With the bills they can go to their bank and change it for US$. The US$ is then put on a debit card and then they can go buy things. With the abolishment of the CUC the US$ is now essentially the currency of the country. The resort workers who have access to us are the rich of the country. I asked a barman if I were a teacher in Cuba how much would I make in US$. He said about 30$. Per day I said. He laughed at my ignorance. No per month. The average Cuban is really suffering under inflation which has hit them hard. By comparison the resort workers are paid about 8-10 US$ per month. Because they have access to us. So essentially slave labour but they thay want the jobs because of us. As well Cayo Coco being an island all the workers go back and forth every day. Access is controlled by the military. Every bus of workers is taxed on its way out of the island. But enough is left for the barmen and waitresses to be the nouveau riche of Cuba. Food. So all this background to come to food. So no hamburgers at the snack bar for the 2 weeks we were there. No coffee for 3 days. Crisis for my wife but I drink tea so... No wine for 12 days and the last 2 they had but not drinkable. No Sprite/7 Up for drinks at all. No juice for drinks. A few days Gin but no tonic. Cuban lemonade syrup or powdered Pina Coladas with Vodka or Rum but the Vodka is pretty horrible. And beer but we are not beer drinkers. The buffet is essentially the movie Groundhog Day if you have ever seen it. The one exception being one day I smelt BBQ. Followed my nose and my wife and I each got a rib. Last 2 of the resort. 1 rib each. Checked around with other travelers and that was it. First come first served and everybody got 1 rib. Not a question of do you want a full or 1/2 rack. Went to the Asian restaurant one evening. Rolled up rice they called sushi and pork with mystery sauce same as in the buffet. But at least it was quieter. Funny/pathetic situation. They have sittings at 6 7 8 o'clock. We were at 6. Lots of empty seats. Client comes by and sees empty tables. Wants to come in and eat. Oh no. Have to have a reservation. He was upset. So as my title suggests Cuba is Cuba. I never go for the food or drinks. I am the cook of the house here and have never seen such a lack of effort with making things good. They have great potential with their lean meat but it needs to be simmered to soften it up. Anyway if you go to Cuba go for the sun and the beach. Even that isn't a guarantee. Perhaps in a year things will be better. We have been there 25 times and this was by far the worst. I am just sorry for the Cuban people. A place with so much potential!

Paradisus Varadero: Happy stay

We loved our 4 day stay at the paradisus Varadero The pool and the beach were amazing. Friendly staff. One downside to our trip is that hotel was only about 25% filled Which was good you didn’t have to fight for access to chairs or anything… but if you were looking to meet other people would not be so evident. Other downside is the food for boring fast.

Paradisus Los Cayos: Beautiful modern resort

We were quite surprized at how beautiful this resort is. Our room was huge - two bathrooms both equiped with walk-in showers - a jucuzzi tub g- an open living space with big screen TV and walk out balcony. The resort is clean and well cared for however we did not get to experience the whole resort as a lot of it including the huge main pool was closed and a lot of restaurants as we were a week early before everything was opening with the expectation of the start of their busy season. Service  [... read more]was excellent but a lot of the staff do not speak english so we had a few hiccups there - i.e.: did not know there was a Bar or Snack Bar on the beach until our 3rd day and our last night we found the Sky Bar on the second floor - this was not communicated to us so best to do some major exploring the first day or two. The food at the buffet was not great (the same Cuban fare - rice, beans, chicken, pork) but the A la Carte food was quite good especially for Cuba. The grounds were well kept. The beach is beautiful. You have to remember that Cuba is having a really hard time right now getting everything right now so you have to expect to do without a few things - like premium liquor - some foods - and paper or cloth napkins (toilet paper is substited for napkins). All in all - the weather was good, the beach was amazing - and the resort itself was the best I have ever stayed at in Cuba.

Melia Las Americas: Will always go back

We love this resort! The people make this place special. All so kind and helpful. The golf / beach combination is amazing. The beach is large with many chairs. The food is fantastic for Cuba and their limited resources. We can’t say enough great things about this place!

Melia Costa Rey: Good but….

The resort looked really nice, everything was really pretty but when you got to the room there were stains on the sheets as well as the couch in our room. We were also without running water for 2 days. You couldn’t flush or have a shower and customer service at the hotel would just give you a 2L bottle of water to use. The pools for 2 days as well were dirty, you could see green algae all over the pools.

Melia Buenavista: Relaxing at its finest!

Really enjoyed this small all inclusive. Food, beach, staff were all amazing, room was spacious and clean, al a carte restaurants were very professional, great menu and excellent staff, felt like casual fine dining every night! 24 hour wood fired pizza, burgers, paella was a real treat. Great for snorkeling with a reef right off the beach, felt very safe. the beach was unbelievable - three separate beaches all providing different options, including a more private area for those wishing to sunba [... read more]the in the nude...we will return for sure! Live music in the evening was excellent as well. If you want a party atmosphere, or watersports, or a large buffet, you can take the free shuttle to the other two Melia resorts, but this gem is for peaceful relaxation. Was a bit of a trip from the airport (1.5 hrs) but the bus was cool and comfortable, and it was more of a tour than a bus ride, lots of information about Cuba and the local area etc.

Sirenis Tropical Varadero: Very fine resort

The grounds were beautiful. The staff were friendly and helpful. The activity staff were especially fun, dancing lessons, stretching near the beach every morning. Nightly entertainment. The food was plentiful and nicely presented.

Gran Muthu Almirante Beach Resort: Best resort vacation ever!

The Gran Muthu Almirante resort exceeded our expectations! We decided to purchase the VIP experience and it was truly worth every penny. We left our 3 children at home and really wanted a special experience as a couple - and we got that! We were treated like VIPs from the moment we checked in. Manuel, our butler was a real gem! He got us everything we asked for! Our room was brand new in block 7 with ocean and pool view, top floor. Very comfy king size bed, separate bath and shower, flat sc [... read more]reen tv mounted on wall, bathrobe and slippers. Food was good as well (for cuba), and keep in mind we are not fussy eaters. We ate a lot of fish, which was a must for us! We had access to the VIP restaurant which serves lobster every night and located right next door to block 7! We also enjoyed 3 a la carte restaurants, the best being the Asian with grilled chicken, fish and beef. The beach was a short 2 minute walk. White sandy beach, lots of chairs to choose from. We discovered an incredible place to snorkel, towards the end of the beach, in front of (what looked like) a deserted resort (towards the right of the beach). We swam out with flippers, mask and snorkel about 300 meters and discovered the best coral reef in cuba with lots of fish. Clearest blue water! Take with you some bananas to feed the fish and they will follow you around. It was a highlight of our trip - we managed to do that twice. One of the lifeguards on the beach (cant remember his name) can take you out there and he'll take photos as well. Something we wish we had as a souvenir! The pools are beautiful and clean but we spent most of our time relaxing on the beach. We did notice a fun splash pad for the kids, and a separate pool with volleyball net. The grounds are immaculate! The games room for kids/adults is really great with loads of video game consoles/screens, VR games, pool table, ping pong table. We booked a massage which was really nice. With VIP we saved 15%. Cuba is definitely struggling since covid, but this resort doesn't seem to be impacted. The entertainment was ok with the aqua show being the best performance during the week. No complaints of mosquitoes for us. Definitely would recommend this resort, with VIP experience!
