Bahia Principe Explore Akumal: We Had a Great Time
I came here with my partner for a week and we had a fantastic time. All of the staff were incredibly friendly. Our room was clean and well air-conditioned, which was important because there were some really hot days during our stay. The buffets were awesome, as well as the a la carte restaurants. The buffet to the left of the adult pool had all our favouite foods. The shuttle service around the other parts of the resort was efficient and frequent. A couple of the restaurants and areas may still [... read more]be unavailable due to the recent hurricane, however that didn't really affect our enjoyment as there was plenty available. The beaches were very nice and well maintained. Seaweed wasn't an issue either. Overall, we had an awesome time and met some great people. We thank the staff for facilitating and participating in that!

Riu Palace Mexico: They take covid seriously
Beautiful hotel, well maintained rooms and grounds kept clean. Lots of covid precautions in place with sanitary gel at entry to hotel and restaurants and masks mandatory except when swimming, drinking or eating. temp checks also done before entering restaurants. You feel confident they are taking necessary steps to ensure safety of guests.
Front desk was very helpful in arranging PCR test for return to Canada. Test conducted in your room and results come via email next day.

Grand Palladium Select Costa Mujeres: Upgrade to Family Selection!! A must
The hotel was beautiful the grounds were very well-kept we upgraded to the family selection which provided access to the all adult side of the resort the TRS coral in my opinion this was a very worthwhile upgrade I’m not sure that we would’ve been completely content without having this extended access. overall this was a lovely resort the service was definitely hit and miss some wonderful service and some not so great attention. Cesar at La Bohème was amazing same with Enrique at the pool b[... read more]ar at the TRS and the guys at the family selection nest breakfast amazing. Food was also good but not great and was hit and miss. Super clean rooms but spotty service for housekeeping and replenishing towels and toiletries. But very very clean rooms. Overall I would return but only to family selection or TRS

Riu Palace Costa Mujeres: Ya get what ya pay for
The fun team and staff there are great...the food, nit too bad at all. The osso buco is unreal good in the italian resto and Oscar in the buffet is a great person and wonderful "server" The king beds are good, the doubles are not, pretty damn hard for my taste. If you can take a spare sweet pillow then do it, you can get extras of course but theyre all a bit too soft for my liking. The hallways arent too attractive compared to the rest and floors are pretty slippery depending on which shoes your[... read more]e wearinf so be careful, The one thing that upset me was thr pcr test was 150 usd per person for us, yet others who did it said it was 80 usd, 120 usd and just other numbers that seemed somewhat made up at the time, not a big deal but ya...not the coolest look. I've never been to a Rui and wont likley go back considering what Ive been to in comparision prior bjt again, it was a cheap good enough trip. The entertainment was good and thr kahoot game was fun, I actually won which was odd lol but ya.

NYX Hotel Cancun: Amazing Resort
NYX Hotel was definitely a very nice choice to make as our getaway! The entire Staff are very cordial and make you very comfortable! The COVID protocols are maintained by wearing masks inside and staff wear them the entire time, indoors and out! They do their Buffet by you going up and choose what you want and they serve you. We found that saved on a lot of food going to waste. The food at this Hotel is OUTSTANDING!!

Iberostar Selection Paraiso Lindo: A surpisingly wonderful trip!
To preface, my family and I are big supporters of the Royalton chain of resorts so we were visiting Iberostar with much skepticism. HOWEVER, from the minute we walked onto the grounds we were instantly persuaded to think differently!
My family landed super late as we took a late afternoon train from Canada, so everything at the resort was closed by the time we got checked in. Our trip REALLY started the next morning at the wonderful breakfast buffet and did not stop being amazing until we h[... read more]ad to sadly depart to return home.
The resort was much bigger than we have experienced before (at Royaltons) but with the frequent buggy carts and beautifully landscaped grounds, it did not feel that big at all! Strolling to the 'Mall' area from the beach for crepes and tacos was an enjoyable scenic walk that you wouldn't necessarily get from smaller resorts. Everything was spaced out elegantly and had enough 'breathing' room between buildings and facilities (it felt HUGE but small at the same time!). We absolutely LOVED the themeatic decor of the different mini resorts (Lindo, Grand, Playa & Beach), and the more we explored the more impressive it all became! A+ for beauty and design!
Beds and rooms were clean and comfortable - we did not have any special diamond/premium level subscriptions but I did not notice anything lacking from our experience. Cleaning staff was always respectful and friendly and we very much appreciated the constant tidying up and straightening (something about coming to a cool, clean room after a day in the sun that is just so amazing!). No smell or weird stains anywhere - A+ for rooms and cleanliness.
Bars and lounge spaces: I picked this resort due to their access to International Liquors (I prefer American bourbon). Not to seem pretentious, but I've noticed the quality of the resort directly depends on the quality of liquor they have readily available... Every bartender was fast, responsive and generally friendly! With such a big resort, we never stayed at any particular bar/area to make anyone stand out but all the spaces that we visited had wonderful staff and a welcoming area to hang out and have some drinks - A+
Beach area: Busy resort = busy beach, BIG resort = even busier beach! Factoring that variable, the beaches were great! Limited shade spaces at BEACH front, but a little further back there were enough natural trees to sit under that still have sand under your feet. Sand was cleaned and didn't notice any seaweed whenever we went. At Lindo there was a beach volleyball court (behind the main beach area), a beach snack/drink stand and some good space for entertainment activities. We LOOOVE going to the beach, and even though we often never got any loungers by the time we arrived, there was no complaints. NOTE: although there were not many loungers available, there were 2 STELLAR groundskeepers that went out of their way (almost daily) to pull up some chairs for us - without being asked!

Paradisus Cancun: Most Amazing Resort!
Initial thought while just driving into the resort was “WOWâ€. The staff is absolutely exceptional and during my 7 day stay, not once did any staff member show a bad attitude. Food is great and the habanero salsa is a must try. The pools are clean and water is fairly warm. The ocean view is something you can’t get tired of and I definitely recommend upgrading to it if you plan on visiting. I was worried about seaweed on the beach since I’ve heard that Cancun is notorious for it but the be[... read more]ach was surprisingly clean. Definitely would recommend Paradisus Cancun and I can’t wait to go back!

Royalton CHIC Cancun: What an amazing deal!
The hotel facilities are amazing and high class.
- The rooms were really plush and AC was cold, you feel premium class
- Room food service available order through the TV, late into the night
Food was fantastic! Some nights the restaurants or buffet were closed but always something available. Recommend to book in advance so you don’t wait in line for restaurants. Check schedule in advance. Download the app for more info

- Steakhouse (Hunter)
- Mexican (Agave)

- Sports bar (Score)
- Gelato and desert bar
- Poolside bar - order it and have it brought to you on the beach or pool
Nightly entertainment is available, I saw some Karaoke nights, dancing shows. Third floor is usually where everyone gathers for the evening and they have a DJ there and usually play music till 12-1. Closes kinda early for those drinkers who prime just at late hours.
Service is top notch, the guys really try hard, so be nice and tip. It was great to feel that they service you well without tipping first - something I did not like in my previous stay in Cancun at the Oasis resort.
They have a rooftop patio and its so sick, some times foam parties.
About COVID - all the staff do a tremendous job of wearing masks, they check your temperatures at restaurants or other public gathering places, there is disinfectant and wash stations throughout. Really good job by the hotel. It’s a mixed story with the tourists, especially at night when they get sauced. Some wear masks others don’t - do your due diligence. It’s hard to enforce so don’t knock the resort management. For testing it cost $160 CAD and the doctor comes to the hotel. Arrange it at the guest service area. Very easy
The gym facilities were the seller for me and they are top notch and the trainers amazing. Morning yoga, hit, TRX, boxing, gym classes, beach challenges and activities etc... AAA
If you are the type of person who complains for the sake of complaining, stay away! If you lose something and cant find it it’s your fault. Too many times I hear I lost a ring in the room, sunglasses, phone, boom box. C’mon people!!! Lock your shit in a safe, keep your valuables away, and don’t get drunk. There was a case where a worker left with a persons shoes and phone but security got it resolved. Always talk to your neighbours and keep watch, the tourists can steal too... Word of advice, leave your Gucci and other designer stuff at home.
Here’s some suggestions to help you determine if this resort is for you
- This is not a quiet resort. Be prepared for music, loud and lots of it.
- Crowd is mixed, mostly saw couples, some solo. Crowd ranging from young, middle age and not that many elderly (few).
- Service is awesome by the staff
- It’s not a big grounds resort so don’t expect it to cover lots of ground.
- It’s the best hotel within a good radius no doubt, I walked to check.
- amazing beach time
- top class gym facilities
- Service desk sometimes gets overwhelmed, time your visits not during peak hours
Lastly, trip advisor staff did an outstanding job of preparing me for the trip. Kudos!!

Bahia Principe Explore Akumal: Suffered Resort
Only Tulum and Akumal sites were stayed open with about less than 50% of occupancy. All levels of hotel staffs felt this difficulty time and provide extremely friendly services. The A La Carte restaurants are improved greatly comparing with many past visits in recent years. The Buffer is not consistent as usual with less choice (due the less visits?). A lot more natives stayed in resort for a short stay and Christmas dinner seems opened to public with many locals to fill in. However, the local [... read more]language speakers had advantages with the services in the food court as the servers in the kitchen area speaks little English. Much more drunks talked loud and played the music in the public areas through the mid of the night 1:30am to 5pm almost every night except the strong windy night. It was the biggest suffer for us despite we requested a quiet room. More young people played loud music with their own portable speaker in the quiet all adult area. There were no staffs ever interference with these activities. All COVID preventions were understandable and reasonable. The Akumal is remains as four-star resort.

Kore Tulum Retreat Wellness Resort: Kore Tulum is the best kept secret in Tulum - this resort is HIGHLY Recommended. Great home away from home.
We are just ending two wonderful weeks here at Kore Tulum. We leave tomorrow Boxing Day 2020 back to Ottawa Canada. We chose this place because it was the best price - by far - for 4-star hotels in Tulum – we were not disappointed but continually pleased with our stay here. Because of COVID-19, we chose an all-inclusive, and Kore was just the right compact size, it had everything we needed, and we felt very safe, covid-wise and otherwise.
Kore Tulum provides a great base for Tulum – It’s[... read more] ideally and strategically located at the road intersection of the Tulum ruins, Hotelaria and the Pueblo – old town off highway 307. The complaints in the reviews we have read have been completely unfounded. We never encountered a shortage of hot water – agua caliente, the rooms were clean, very modern, huge, very quiet and peaceful – very functional, loved the patio for yoga, and the room jacuzzi, and we felt very much at home. The layout of the hotel pool being the focal point for meals, drinks, events and socializing – made it very easy to meet so many wonderful and fascinating fellow travelers. The compact size and simplicity of Kore – made was conducive for very civil socializing or cocooning when we desired to.
All the staff were first rate – and we had many great encounters with the staff. All the staff went the extra mile. Our favorite staff member, among many, was Karina, the crepe chef – she was so, so nice and her crepes were so, so good. They should have her prepare crepes for breakfast – they would be a hit!
Minor issues that were truly insignificant to us were: the 43 TV channels available were not very interesting which proved to be a bonus – we spent more time relaxing, investigating Tulum and the area. The fact that you could not swim in the ocean from our hotel encouraged us to bike and drive to the hippie beach, cenotes and neighboring lagoons. We used the bikes provided to cycle to the beaches that surrounded us, sight-seeing and shopping. Again the hotel pool and pool hot tubs provided most of the wading requirements we had.
We had rented a car for our two weeks stay and we traveled overnight to Laguna Bacalar-wonderful and Mahahual-which I would give a miss. I highly recommend the small town of Buenavista, a sleepy town at the top end of the 60km long Laguna Bacalar – if you want the quiet serenity and natural beauty off the beaten path. Closer to Tulum we enjoyed the ruins of Coba and Tulum, and a few cenotes. Sylvie and I are older 60 and 62 – so we had less need for the wild Tulum beach parties – we were very happy hanging out at our hotel home – it always was a welcome oasis/sanctuary after our forays into the wilder/crazier outside world of Tulum.
We were able to use our tennis racquets at the beautiful all-weather public tennis court in pueblo Tulum at the Sport Unit Tulum where they had modern well-kept public basketball courts, soccer pitches, baseball field and a glass-enclosed pickleball court. Sadly, due to covid, they were under-utilized.

Hacienda Buenaventura Hotel and Mexican Charm: Really Nice Authentic Mexican Hotel
This was a little older but well maintained hotel. The name "Mexican Charm" is quite fitting because it was charming! Great staff, clean rooms, tasty food. We are a family traveling with a 6 year old. We all loved this hotel. Close to the beach (5 minute walk) and nice beach club. Would definitely go back.
