Brisas Guardalavaca: **Amazing Resort

Where to start. This was our first time in Cuba , we decided on Brisas Gardalavaca. What a Resort. We stayed in on of the Villa which was superb. Kudos to the staff who are always smiling, friendly and willing to go above and beyond to make our stay as enjoyable as possible. The entertainment, music, night life was so much fun, they really know how to make things fun for all. Highly recommended for your next trip to Cuba..

Club Amigo Atlantico Guardalavaca: Lovely time, fun resort

I came to the resort after only being open for a week. I was upgraded to the perfect Villa. The 1 operational pool was great. A second pool opened the day I left. Food was good, 2 different outdoor meals, special lobster dinner. Drinks were flowing. Staff were very friendly. A few lights out on walkways but I had my phone. I would probably return but I like a quiet resort and could see if full would be quite busy and loud.

Club Kawama: I would give it a one and half stee

The only two a la carte restaurants were closed; buffet only. No coffee in the buffet. No butter; no white wine; sometimes no ice; no hot water for 5 days. The pool was green for 3 days. At the same time as the ocean was red flagged.

Melia Cayo Coco: A good experience

We were pleased with our experience at this resort and no concerns from the perspective of COVID-19 protocols. There were a couple initial supply chain issues likely due to the pandemic and recent hurricane but they didn’t last and we were well taken care of, especially compared to other folks at other resorts.

Melia Cayo Santa Maria: Wonderful stay at our favorite resort!

We have been coming here since 2014 (this being our 10th time) and we totaly enjoyed ourselves. Friendly and courteous staff, cleanln rooms, beautiful grounds, excellent beach, etc.. Great place to relax and enjoy Cuban hospitality.

Paradisus Rio De Oro: Amazing Hotel 🏨

Beautiful Hotel, With great staff. Very well maintained. Exceptional management. Good food an for me, it's home away from home. I would recommend this hotel to anyone that needs to be in a quiet beautiful gorgeous scenery vacation

THe Manager and Staff are very good. they attend to any issues you may have. Dining is good. Entertainment is good but more shows are needed. rooms are clean and comfortable. stay was enjoyale. will return for sure

Gran Muthu Imperial: Beautiful Resort

We were greeted every day with a hug and smile. Yordanis from Marketing Jeny from the pool bar. Yadi from Sports bar, you truly do make the most amazing drinks. Carlos, Pino, Higteandro, Maceo Yanet, Grether,Asiel, Lince, Yoendry and Fatima from Lobby bar Food and Beverage Managers Joan and Jean. Thank you for always checking in to make sure everything was okay. We cannot forget the gardeners and cleaners who keep the grounds and hotel look amazing.

Valentin El Patriarca Varadero: Beautiful resort

The sunwing outline of the hotel said if your vacation is during your anniversary then you would get a bottle of champagne. Flowers. And a special dinner at this hotel. We asked 6 times for these bonus items as it was our anniversary we asked the front desk as well the concierge manager we finally got a dinner but nothing else. The flight with sunwing to cuba was horrible we paid for prestige seats and got regular seats my husband is 6’8” tall he cant sit in regular seats yet s mother and  [... read more]child were in emergency exit!! Flight attendants did nothing about it. We had paid 120.00 for these seats on the plane. We advised sunwing rep about this and he said nothing he could do from cuba, we had to pay another 100.00 to get emergency exit for the seats back to winnipeg Terrible flights!

Iberostar Selection Ensenachos: Great vacation

We stayed at the Iberostar Selection Ensenachos from Nov. 7th to 14th. We enjoyed our week, it was filled with sun, great beaches and great social time. This was our second time staying at this resort and we would definitely go there again.

Memories Jibacoa: Very nice resort

Clean room, very tidy property. The beach was well looked after even after stormy weather. The staff was friendly and seemed well-trained. We enjoyed the ability to paraglide the local ridge and land at the beach near the resort. The entertainment in the evenings was professional level.

Grand Muthu Cayo Guillermo: It was better

It was our 3rd time in this resort and not the best one. Sometimes pool get very dirty, so hotel closes it. Many kids had ear infections. The staff were wonderful as usual. But the quality and variety of food is terrible. We had 2 rooms connected, in both there were problems with toilets. The door in one room didn't work.

Memories Cayo Largo: Some good, some bad. Under $700, per week, go for it!

As always, let me start of by saying I am a seasoned Cuba traveler, and with that I have a lot to compare to...over 20, 3 and 4+ star hotels within the last few years. Since November of 2021 (pandemic times), 6 hotels in Cuba. I am comparing Cuba to Cuba. I’ve never been to Mexico or Dominican. If you’ve been to one of these, that’s what my comparison is based upon: Hotel Parasio (Pestana), Colonial in Cayo Coco, Memories Flamenco, Tryp Cayo Coco, Melia Jardines Del Ray, Occidental Var [... read more]adero, Roc Arenas, Grand Memories, Melia Varadero, Be Live Collection CSM, Play Cayo Santa Maria, Memories Parasio, Sol Varadero, Playa Costa Verde Holguin and Grand Sirenas CSM. Top faves would be Playa Cayo Santa Maria, Melia Jardines Del Ray, Grand Sirenas and Sol Varadero. These range from 3 to 4.5 stars. Some 30 years old, some 4. Tips about reviews: If at the top of the review you see “1 contribution”, that’s a red flag, perhaps management. Also, anyone posting a negative comment on the facebook groups will get banned, so people don’t want to say anything at all. Rooms: Sunwing pics are not accurate, they are what the prototype for the new rooms are GOING to be like. The resort is 20 years old. While NO, I don’t go to Cuba for the rooms, it’s not a pleasant vacation when the sheet/blankets smel, can’t shower cause the water is only cold, or like us, burned us cause out of no where went super hot! Super loud AC, can’t sleep. No fan in the room, and super dark. Rusty old lamps that are enough light of a candle, hard to find stuff in the dark. The electric sockets also came out of the wall when you tried to take a plug out. TV didn’t work (fuzzy screen), not a big deal but one night we just wanted to chill in the room. One lady had the sliding door fall on her, one lady claims she was electrocuted in the shower. I don’t care about the layers of paint, or stains in the tub, but safety stuff like that is pretty important. This was the biggest “Con” of the resort. Lack of sleep due to AC noise and smells. Entertainment: I wish they had an on site disco. The shows were great. Some of the staff were great, some bothered us (chasing us down the beach) about leaving “gifts” even though I hadn’t interacted with them all week. Buffet: Note that we went 1st opening week. Management puts out the best of the best so that word gets around how great it is, and more people book. I spoke with them about this, it won’t always be the same food. It was a good variety, good pastas, but again…I don’t want people booking in say Feb, and being disappointed that “They said the food was good!”. The 1st and 2nd day staff were pretty good, on it if we needed water/coffee/wine. We tipped. Then 3rd day on, we noticed service getting worse and worse…maybe because we weren’t dropping $20 per meal (which is what we saw some people were doing, that’s a months salary, no wonder now $5 bills get laughed at, what did some people create?!) they started ignoring us. Meat grill guy was nice the first day, then day 4 told us we need to pay for lobster $20 per piece or give him our clothes lol. Management said everything in the buffet was free. We got the lobster, and it was surprise….raw. Lobby: The 3 gentleman that work there are amazing, such hard workers! They made fabulous drinks, always quick. I wish there was more seating around the lobby bar as it got packed in there fast in the evening. Only about 10 tables with 2 chairs each inside, so when it rains, you can’t even move around. I would suggest adding more tables to the night show area, at the back, kind of extend the lobby area. Beach: Ah, the big question you read on the forums/fb pages: “Is there a beach?!” Sometimes yes, sometimes no. Day 1 the water was up to the rocks, no sand visible. By day 6, 20 ft of sand. It changes according to the moon/winds/tides. If there is no beach, you can take the train (it’s basically a tractor, painted to look like a train, there’s no railing) to Playa Sirena or Paraiso, however…we were told it won’t always be free. Same as with drinks, food and shade spots at Playa Sirena, won’t always be free! Just note, it’s about 20 minutes and goes over very bumpy sand roads. If you have back issues, are senior or what not, it’s not very comfortable. Taxi one way for 2 people was $8USD on credit card, and goes much faster. Pools: Great layout, I like a good pool vibe after the beach in the PM. Not a whole lot of shade, spots get taken. Somewhat clean, although some people mentioned the pool bar pool was a bit smelly. Snack Bar: Amazing service, had a few things on the menu each day. Note: I don’t go to Cuba to make friends with staff. I don’t go with rose colored glasses and ignore the bad because of the friendly people. I will still review the “negative”, people have a right to know before they spend their hard earned $ on vacation. I don’t bother reading reviews that state “I’ve been coming here since 1941, it’s the best! I never go any where else”, why? Because they don’t have anything to compare to. How do you know it’s the best when you’ve never been anywhere else?! Lol. Then you get comments like “If you want 5 star go to a 5 star!” Well, I went to Sol Varadero, 30 year old hotel that’s 3 star, (went in Feb 2022) and almost everything was much better, service, rooms, etc. I went to Cayo Largo to try it out. Overall, I had a great vacation either way! Would I go back? Sure, if the price is under $700 out of Toronto for a week, it’s worth it 😊

Gran Muthu Imperial: Beautiful resort!

It was a very beautiful resort and since this was my first time so don’t really have anything to compare with, but I loved every minute of my trip. Amazing drinks (very colorful) and nice view, nice swimming pools and great staff. Just too many mites is bed they so tiny you can barely see them. As a vegetarian don’t have much options to eat but fruits, fries and grilled sandwiches were alright! Overall I had great time.

Melia Jardines del Rey: Stay AWAY

Melia Jardens del ray should have stayed closed. It was not prepared to open. Starting from malfunctioning toilets, showers, lighting, unclean pools…there’s no end. We went for days with no bath towels, no beach towels, no napkins. They used toilet paper as napkins in the dining rooms, how gross 🤮 And, the toilet paper was recycled, it had brown spots throughout. Severe food shortages. Hotel Playa Paraiso: Excell Commitment Ceremony

With the latest Regulatory requirements, weddings at the resorts have become commitment ceremonies. Especially Canadian / Cuban. We had our commitment ceremony on Nov 5, 2022, on the beach at Hotel Playa Paraiso and a formal, legal marriage ceremony in the city of Moron. The staff at the Hotel outdid themselves to ensure that our special time was fabulous. from the ceremony at the beach to the following recception/dinner they made our time very special.

Barcelo Solymar: Wouldn't go back!

The rooms had bugs! Water leaked from the ceiling. You only get 1 bottle of water a day. Limited booze and food sucked. Beach is beautiful and people and staff are friendly but definitely not going back. Entertainment consists of bingo...

Grand Muthu Cayo Guillermo: Amazing Resort

The landscaping well maintained. 2 out of 3 pools were open, and towards the end of my stay the infinity pool opened however the pool bar did not. They are not at full capacity yet. The buffet had many varieties of food such as calamari, fish and shrimp. Steak beef, stir fry beef together with pork and chicken. Food was delicious. Lobster dinner at Sandero was amazing!

Melia Peninsula Varadero: Good value!! Had a great time!

Pros - the beach is amazing, the pool and swim up pool bar is amazing, great selection of drinks and access to drinks/bars, bungalow concept for rooms was really nice and allowed us to walk around and enjoy the weather/scenery, coffee bar and latte’s near main lobby were absolutely amazing!, the nightly bands/singers were pretty good although short sets. The food - breakfast had an awesome spread - omelettes, waffles, pastries, egg station, bacon, etc.- was great. Cons - the room was pretty basic, we had a problem with our shower but it wasn’t a deal breaker. For the price great value we had a great week!!!
