Iberostar Origin Playa Alameda: Medium quality resort

The lobby and esplanade and the beach were OK. The daily theater performances were pretty good... The food at the buffet was medium quality.. quantity was always adequate. The a la carte restaurants were pretty good and with good service. The bar service was pretty decent.. BUT.. The pool didn't have a deep end, the Spa/jacuzzi was out of operation, many of the room balcony sliding doors wouldn't lock up, the room safe was not chained down, lots of smokers in the outdoor sitting area, the la [... read more]ndscaping was rather sad...

Mar Del Sur: Needs some upkeep

The Mar Del Sur was the worst resort I have ever stayed at. The first night we had to change rooms because there were bugs all over the floor and the bed. We had to change rooms again 3 days later because we hadn’t had any hot water for 2 days. The resort is pretty run down and not very clean. The staff tried their best but when that’s all you have to work with it’s pretty hard. The beach is a block away and is very nice with cabanas and an open bar on the beach. Los Delfines: Unhappy

The beach was amazing! The dining room staff was friendly and great! The housekeeper was great. Not happy with the rooms we travelled as a group with family and we got put in three different building. Asked to be moved and the front desk just totally ignore us. The beds were horrible old. The bar facing the beach the staff were not friendly and ignored patrons. The alacarte restaurant was amazing especially the waiter Gustavo!

Sirenis Tropical Varadero: What happened to naviti?

This was our second time staying at Naviti Varadero. We were disappointed with a few things and after speaking to a few people found out that the resort had been sold last October. The hot tub by the beach club was not hot. The quality of the food has gone down drastically. Whenever our daughter wanted to go to the kids club we could not find staff. After asking at reception they said they would send someone over and after waiting for 20 minutes plus no one showed. During our stay a couple of busloads of Germans came to the resort causing lineups at the buffet and shortages of food. Unfortunately we will not be returning to Naviti again.

Paradisus Princesa Del Mar: 2 Star Resort at Best

We think that the resorts in Cuba should have different ratings....like rate them compared to each other...and in comparison to resorts elsewhere like for example, Mexico....In the comparison this resort may have rated high for Cuba but in comparison to other resorts of the world this is a 2 star maximum. The rooms were ok. Not at all fancy, but ours was clean and had all the necessary requirements. House keeping was good once we left a gift for the cleaning staff. The sheets didn't fit the bed so in the middle of the night we had to get up and put them back on. Most mornings we woke up on the mattress cover. The food was awful. I was not able to eat much of it. The drinks were watered down at the pool and the coffee everywhere tasted like dish water. In order to tolerate it, we had to order cappuccinos. Even then it was only bearable. The service was very inconsistent from place to place at the resort. The dining rooms requiring reservations all served the same food prepared just a little differently. The dining rooms also had no bar, only wine was served. They didn't have coffee either, which was very strange and staff would not go get any if asked. One of the major offensive activities on the resort was the cigarette smoking allowed everywhere even in the restaurants. Not a resort for non smokers or those with allergies. This should definitely be mentioned in the Resort advertising. The beach was amazing other than for the cigarette butts everywhere. Ocean swimming was great. For the amount of money we paid for a 2 week vacation it was very disappointing. We will never return.

Los Delfines: some good, some very bad, especially the bar staff in the main oceanside bar

parts of the hotel are very old and in disrepair. Our travel mates had a very bad room in the building that houses the restaurant. Their air conditioner actually blew up, there were cockroaches in their room. They were promised another room and then the desk staff just said no it is not available. We were there for two weeks. The dining room staff were wonderful, but the food is very bland and repetitive. same thing every day. the once a la carte restaurant was great with great staff, but it  [... read more]is only available with reservation once a week. The poolside bar staff were great but it closes at 6 pm. The oceanside (main) bar, with the exception of one young woman, is the rudest, most incompetent, surly staff I have ever seen. None of these men should be serving your customers. We are polite, patient Canadians who tip well.

Iberostar Origin Laguna Azul: Good resort

hotel was in good shape, clean, great staff, quick check in... Only disappointment was the 7 hour delay from sun wing coming home.. weather was average but that can be expected in January... Good trip

Club Tropical: Amazing trip

Flight - Cuban airlines offer a lot more in luggage and food and drink in the cabin than most other carriers, so bonus Border - No issues or hassles there or back, great Resort - Nice pleasant place, lots to do, lot of activities, felt like home and the staff was second to none. Room and maid service was great Lots of food and drink Cuban Culture - Although I didn't go out of Varadero that is a touri [... read more]st area, I found the people happy, charming, helpful, and they love to sing and dance. Yes their music and dance full of life!! Tripcentral - You folks have been very proactive in addressing my questions and needs and you have double, triple checked all things to be done.

Iberostar Origin Playa Alameda: Great resort

I enjoyed staying at this resort. The rooms were clean. The food was good & most of the workers were friendly. The pool & beach were good. I would recommend this resort to relax & enjoy the pool & the beach

Playa Vista Azul: Better than average

Resort was pretty.... great pools and beaches!.The food was better than the average cuban hotel. The drinks weren’t the best!! The wine was horrible and the lobby bar had no straws!! If your looking for quiet nights then this hotel is for you. I personally like a little more action at night!! The hotel lobby shuts down early and there is no disco.... i will definitely be back to varadero but i will stay in the city where the action and good times are....

Paradisus Varadero: Old and outdated resort with slow service

This resort is very old and it doesn't look like it's been maintained. the beach was full of rocks and dead jelly fish. Almost everything is broken or in a very poor condition. For example, were we there for 4 days and had the following issues: - TV broke on day 2 - safe didn't work, it was replaces with a new one which also didn't work - the show water was never hot, just lukewarm - has to ask for additional towels every day - 2 night,out keys were deactivated and we had to walk at 2am a [... read more]ll the way to the lobby to get them activated - main buffet opened for lunch at 1pm (not noon) - we can only get 1 a la carte for the 4 days and it took another line up to get reso - wanted to exchange money' had to wait 45 min for an old man behind a desk to do - WI FI terrible and again line up to get a new card - every bar had a wait, the bartenders were so slow and had no experience handling more than 3 customers -snack bar had the french fries machine broken for the 3 days there and was the only place during the day to get fries - the coffee machine at the snack bard was broken for over 2 days and had to walk to the lobby to get coffee (wait another 20 min) I've never had to wait so much for service. I feel for the 4 days there, we spent most of it waiting or dealing with issues. This is definitely not 4.5 stars. At most 3 and the price should reflect that. Paying 870 for 4 days wasn't good value at all.

Muthu Playa Varadero: Relaxing place

Relaxing solo vacation for me. Hot water only available in evenings. Water bottles never provided in room the whole trip. Staff is great so long as you tip them at the beginning of service. Had same server all week in evenings and she never refilled drinks or cleared plates. I couldn't sit anywhere else for a different server since I needed a a table for only 2. Entertainment was good. Had Orlando as server for breakfast and lunch and he was awesome! Friendly, attentive and funny! I will be back as in the end I had a great relaxing trip.

Melia Las Americas: Wonderful resort

The resort was lovely and clean. The food was excellent except could be warmer at the buffet. The a la cartes were amazing and food was excellent! The beach was lovely. Staff were pleasant and kind. Lots of stairs.

Mar Del Sur: Happily ensconced in resignation! Beautiful Beach!

Noted on arrival no one looked happy! Receptionist uncommunicative and slow. Late arrival and snack meant stale sandwich! Pool dirty, floors swept occasionally but years' old grime decorated the corners, windows dirty, litter everywhere, No TP in lobby bathroom on arrival nor the morning after and so on...Bring some in a zip lock to carry with you. If you are a Celiac bring food! Despite toaster, Quebecers want to put bread on grill to warm up, they pretend to not understand that you are allergi [... read more]c to bread. Booking with agency meant standard room: no balcony, no fridge, a toilet that doesn't flush unless you turn on the shower, hold the faucet in place to turn on, small tiny space. What level of disrepair do we settle for? -running toilet, little to no hot water, shower head on floor, fridge and loud AC. Dark hallways and stairwells as there were no lights, 3rd floor meant 4 flights of stairs, room lights not bright enough for reading, walkways in disrepair, pool deck like walking on a rough road, complete with holes.The main building is a compound with only two ways in or out. Your building could be several blocks away so walking for that cup of coffee to have in your room was an excursion. The lobby bar coffee was watered down as I have 2 cup coffee thermoses to avoid the plastic. So for four cups of coffee one scoop of grounds, more hot water. 9th trip to Cuba first time I felt unrest and despondency among the staff. Few would talk to you only happy when speaking to Cubans. Beach is amazing! The weather was fabulous. Had a great week of sunshine. Daily walks to dole out trinkets and giveaways to the happy villagers instead of morose staff that act like they hate foreign tourists, Yes there are villages! Tourists leave a lot of litter! Shame on you! Valentines brought a lot of locals to stay at the resort which meant long long lineups for meals. Many Quebecers who are more important (foolish to think that we are equal) expect better treatment. Line ups were ignored. Staff does not know how to say no when they rudely jump the queue. Shortage of wine at meals.

Hotel Acuazul: Keep your sense of humour.

The hotel staff were helpful and accommodating but our lasting comment for the stay was, " What happens when it's all broken". With very little resources and very little toilet paper, the hotel was loosing its quaintness. Even the lovely stained glass panels were falling out. My big concern over that was, they would fall on someones head. The food was plentiful but I guess they were accommodating to the lowest of tastebuds. A few local spices would have been nice. Melia Varadero: Fantastic resort!

We loved the hotel! Room and view very nice.Food was very good and nice variety. Amazing service! Henry at the piano bar, Yanta at the pool bar..... Will definitely return to this resort and thanks trip central!!!!!!!

Melia Marina Varadero: Would recommend Melia Marina

Hotel staff were amazing! Couldn't do enough to make your stay enjoyable...Beach was beautiful...white sand for miles...and I highly recommend the beach restaurant for lunch. Its a stretch to say the beach is 7 minute walk...besides there is a shuttle and Bosch (shuttle driver) will serenade you for the short drive .... The a la carte restaurants were definitely better than the buffet...the buffet did not offer much variety and there was not always air conditioning which made for an uncomfortab [... read more]le meal. Room was clean but tired...overall my experience was positive especially for Cuba and based on the price.

Blau Varadero: Amazing People! Amazing Resort!!

My husband and I recently returned from the Blau Veradero in Veradero Cuba. It was a beautiful resort. We met so many amazing people and were treated like royalty! They gave me a cake on my Birthday!! The only thing was the food, it lacked flavor and variety. I didn't like that you could only attend the a la carte restaurants twice in the week you were there, I think It should have been an open option. Other than that they had a mini train that stopped out front and took you on a tour into Veradero and the resort itself was very laid back and very restful. Do not take any room above the Bar. Difficulty getting a room (3 days waiting). No air conditioning in room 239 for the rest of the stay. Refused a new room change except above the Bar (very noisy). The hotel was under inspection The buffet is passable - there has been improvement to the last 5 days of travel. - the washrooms were clean but barred. Very courteous staff with the exception of a hostess who shows no empathy. The key word of the hotel = magnana.
