Riu Palace Costa Mujeres: 4 star experience
The resort is beautiful and very well maintained. Food is just okay. A la carte were disappointing. Service was good.
Rooms well maintained. Service around the pool was not consistent. If you have been to a riu palace before it is identical therefore if your looking for something new then I would choose another resort.

Grand Park Royal Cozumel: Dont recommend this to anyone!
The only thing going for it was the property and caribbean restaurant. Beach was nice and the pool and "hot" tubs overlooking the beach looked beautiful. Only - the hot tubs were FREEZING, also the deck around them crumbled from the surf hitting it the first night we were there. They put caution tape around them and only got to fixing them on our last day. The staff didn't really seem to care much with the exception of a couple of restaurant staff. The buffet was frequently very sparse with dr[... read more]ied out food in empty containers - very hit and miss. The Italian restaurant was ok - good appetizer and dessert buffet, but the served meal portion was only ok. My meal - the fish fillet looked great but tasted off. I didnt eat it for fear of food poisining. The Caribean restaurant was really good - great staff, good seafood and food in general. We went there more than once. The other issue was the first night our 2 gardenview rooms were overlooking the busy street next door and some kind of tanks outside. It was too noisy to sleep and the door security latch on one room was broken. It took all of our first day to get them to move us and only with a call from Canada (Nicole helped) - they just didnt seem to care.
Pools were very crowded. The beach was great for walking but big issue with seaweed. Lots of restaurants, very easy to navigate this resort. Brie was a great butler, very helpful. Staff were very friendly.

Iberostar Waves Paraiso Beach: Solid 3 Star Resort
-Buffet & a la cartes have a very limited selection, but are high quality. Minimal after-hours options. Shopping centre provides free made-to-order food which is a bonus.
-This is one of the lowest levels on a resort compound so you get minimum access to facilities, but have access to all the popular/fun things, so there's no point upgrading.
-Resort seemed very understaffed while we were there, so we had no drink servers and bartenders with no cocktail knowledge. Brazilian restaraunt didnt ha[... read more]ve enough servers so we left after the long wait. The folks there were working hard though.
-There are only a few bars so without servers it was a pain to get drinks.
-Beach was the best we've seen on that coast, lots of waves and strong riptides though. Many people were rescued by life guards.

Buenaventura Grand Hotel and Great Moments: Just what I needed!
This is the second time staying at this resort. We booked it last year and decided to do so again this year. My agent contacted the hotel and asked for an early check-in and a room with a balcony. Very happy to say we got both on arrival.
Hotel and grounds are kept in immaculate condition. The staff are all extremely kind and helpful. Most staffers I recognized from last year, which I took as a good sign, it means they are happy to work there.
I love that it's a smaller boutique resort. [... read more]Not at all pretentious. The grounds are well manicured and from room to beach is literally under a two minute walk.
They have something different each night fur entertainment. They really go above and beyond when planning these events.
Highly recommend

Hyatt Vivid Playa Del Carmen: Wonderful with Something for Everyone
The hotel is, in a word, beautiful. A grand entrance opens up to a modern and efficient lobby and then an expansive lounge, surrounded by shops, cafes and a bar. A highlight, the Aroma Cafe where you can get a cappuccino or a gelato. This is where your nightly entertainment will occur - with plenty of seating, attentive service and an open airy breeze.
That said, the first half of our week, the shows were on the central lawn which were equally enjoyable - the entertainment team at the resor[... read more]t are extremely talented, best I have seen.
The room was large, clean and well appointed with everything you need and more. This includes a well stocked mini fridge, Crabtree and Evelyn bath products, and turn down service. But let’s talk about the Magic Box. AKA room service but without the interaction. You can order from an in room tablet and your food and/or drink is delivered to a “dumbwaiter†you access in your room. This is how we enjoyed our breakfasts most days and it was marvellous!
The grounds are stunning, well kept without question, but I think the nicest detail is there is a little bit of everything. Garden, beach, pool, spa, terrace, tennis, gym, dive pool, etc.
Everything/everywhere was immaculate. We preferred what we called the tranquil pool but the main pool was hoppin’. Lots of fun and frivolity, a good time had by all!
The restaurants were delightful and elevated, even the laid back beachfront patios. Stand outs include Pelicanos for lunch and Maria Marie for dinner.

Blue Bay Grand Esmeralda: Nice resort, horrible beach
The resort is big, lots of walking, but they have golf cart shuttles. Food was good, staff were friendly at the seabob shop, lots of fun. They gave me and my girlfriend 2 beds and it took them 4 days of complaining before they changed our room to a single bed.
Beach is horrible, black seaweed water, rocks and shells in the beach sand so it sucked to walk on bare foot. Very shallow water, only up to my belly buton.
Over all 3 out of 5 i would not stay there again.
Might as well stay at a[... read more] travel lodge if i want a room and pool, would be less walking and cheeper lol

Sandos Caracol Nature Resort and Water Park: Good time
This was our second trip to the Sandos Eco Carcol. We love the grounds and the nature and of course the main feature, the monkeys !! Unfortunately this time we upgraded to the Royal Elite Penthouse being told we could use the Infinity pool and Swim up bar section by tht travel agent and as advertised on the website however Royal Elite are not allowed and we were told when we arrived. For a family of four the Eco Family section would have been way better. The Royal penthouse is basically a large[... read more]r room made for two. It was very crowded with 4 and our luggage. The balcony was large and nice however the ocean front means nothing. There are no views of the ocean. Just the tops of the palm trees. Food was fine. The restaurants are great. As mentioned in all the posts the beach is not great. Very rocky and dark and more for snorkelling however very wavy most of the time. I’m not sure we will ever return as the room was so disappointing and the very expensive upgrade to Royal Elite was a waste of money. The service from the staff is great however our request to lower grade our room to a more comfortable fit was not met. We did see others get upgraded and we were not allowed to downgrade. Over all a fun place for families but don’t waste your money. Stay with the eco family section for the same perks when travelling as a family.

El Dorado Seaside Suites: Service with a smile
My best friend and I stayed a week at the El Dorado Seaside Suites (Infinity Side) in an ocean view Pool suite.
The resort is fairly new and fairly well maintained, with modern, spacious and clean rooms.
Our room was a corner suite on the 4th floor in Building 6. We had a fairly large infinity pool with direct access from our balcony.
The first night, we had to call security 2x because there were 10-15 people standing outside of our room ‘scream talking’ at one another til well after[... read more] 2am. We asked them if they could move or please keep it down, but it didn’t stop. Due to the proximity to Kanaloa Bar - on the 4th floor, this happened again on our last night. Definitely don’t accept 6401 as your room if you like sleep!
The pools were freezing. Apparently they don’t heat the infinity pools or the main pool, so not many people were using them. We went in a couple times, and it was definitely neat to see it when you looked out- but ultimately, they were always in the shade and mostly too cold to use.
As I mentioned before, the room was large, modern and clean. They had nice robes and spa quality toiletries. The first day, there were plenty of towels- however, they seemed to dwindle as the week went on. I had mentioned to my concierge that I liked Coors Light over the other beers in the mini bar and I came in each day to find it stocked.
Something odd about the resort- housekeeping comes in once a day- at an approximate time that you tell your concierge. Later in the day, the bar/snack person comes in to fill your mini bar. Later, a towel person comes into the room... and lastly, someone came in 2 days to do turn down... but only 2 of 7. Due to all the different staff coming & going, it was really difficult to siesta!
Beach: There really isn’t one. Infinity has one spot you can wade in and that’s nice... The rest of the frontage is behind a wall and is a Reef. They’ve done their best and added sand and chairs along it and it’s still lovely... but if you’re looking for a beautiful beach, you won’t find it here.
Sensimar has a larger beach which is very busy. There are very few chairs because it is so busy. It’s also very far from Infinity- you can take a shuttle, but you’d better not forget anything or it’s kind of an ordeal...
Food:
There is only 1 restaurant on the Infinity side and it is only open for lunch. There’s a fantastic steakhouse/grill upstairs and a pretty underwhelming buffet downstairs (under the main pool, which is neat, but the selection was very poor and nearly no one was in there- ever). Other than that and the aforementioned Kanaloa Bar (which was the only ‘nightlife’). There is a Starbucks in the shop on the 1st floor- but it is extra $.
To eat, we had to go to the Sensimar side or the ‘Main Lobby Building’. It is not that far to Sensimar where there is
- The Gourmet Pub (excellent Calamari!)
- Culinarium Restaurant (try the cajun chicken- it is NOT what you’d expect, but IS amazing)
- Mia Casa (Italian- did not attend that location)
- Mexican You need a reservation (see your concierge)- Excellent food, fantastic drinks and amazing service- bring an appetite!
-Guacamayas Bar - A bar with swings & snacks. Nightly entertainment here and a super fantastic vibe. Everyone seems to flock here after 9pm, so seating was tricky... but there’s
dancing!
BeachBBQ was closed the whole week, so we didn’t get to eat there.
There is a quick serve restaurant The Sandwicherie & a buffet but we did not go to them.
Main building-
Seaside Market Buffet- Only breakfast option. Very small selection- the Egg station cool was excellent. Often things were left empty or running low... and not very hot.
Never attended a lunch buffet. One dinner buffet was very disappointing. Stuck to A La Cartes after that.
Asian Restaurant- Need a reservation, but it was fantastic! Delicious food. Thai, Japanese & sushi. The sushi was great. The pad thai and curry was also pretty fantastic. The service was impeccable.
Mia Casa- Italian. Super cute ‘Village in Italy’ streetscape style decor. Awesome food & fantastic service. Loved the addition of the dessert cart.
Each night there was some sort of live music and an Aperol Spritz branded bar at the Main Plaza at Sensimar which we really enjoyed as a chill after dinner drink before heading to Guacamayas or to the show.
Entertainment was lacking. We saw a Fire & Lights show - which was great & a Circus Show which was also pretty great... but that was it.
They had ‘entertainment’ at Kanaloa bar but it was Karaoke- no one sang.. and a band, that was decent, but literally took 7-10 mins between songs... and every song was a ballad - on Rock night... I went to bed.
The Naay Spa was lovely, but if you wanted to do the hydrotherapy or ‘water journey’ as they call it, you have to pay $27-35 USD unless you bargain for it included in your spa treatment. Unlike other luxury all inclusives I have been to which allow you unlimited access to it.
We were approached on the beach by a spa employee who wouldn’t really take no for an answer... I knew I wanted a massage, but the prices were quite high $200+ USD per person, I hadn’t quite decided. He kept offering different deals and we ended up with 2-4-1 plus water journey for free. By that time, why not! haha...
I had the Kukulkan Massage which was a combination of several techniques & very enjoyable.
Several times throughout the week, the same guy approached us. Even our last 2 hours at the resort, they were still trying to talk us into ‘one for the road’. That was a little much.
The staff are lovely and everyone is friendly. One of the guys at the Seaside Market even seems to remember everyones names - day after day. It is really the staff that makes the resort more appealing.
There were definitely pros... and a few cons about the resort. I would consider going again, but feel that at the price point, I’d probably go somewhere else. I just found many things to be lacking ‘something’.

Secrets Mirabel Cancun Resort and Spa: Excellent First Experience
From the moment we left Ottawa to our arrival in Cancun we enjoyed every minute. My friend and I travelled together for the first time alone and it was such a fun and stress-free experience. We loved the service at New Emerald Resort and the staff were exceptional. The property was clean and the service by the pools was great. We loved our drinks and the fluffy pool towels. The nightly shows were fun to watch. We would love to come back once again.

Sunscape Dorado Pacifico: Not quite as advertised.
A little underwhelming considering the reviews. Resort is tired and under-staffed. “Activities†Personnel were more interested in playing volleyball ( and winning) than letting guests play. 5 staff on the court (between both sides) and 6 guests standing on the sidelines, waiting for an opportunity. Also, head activities guy with the whistle served 5 straight high-speed serves to the little guy ( 11 years old ) so that his side could win the game. Sad, really.
