Akumal Bay Beach and Spa Resort: Luxurious and peaceful
First, the layout of the resort is wonderful. They hired a professional to design and layout the entire resort. Everything is close by and easy to locate, beautiful gardens, walkways and lighting were perfectly designed. Hammocks were located in treed areas with lighted wicker balls high in the trees. Stunning! Every room faces the ocean.
Next, the staff are amazing people. Raul at the front desk was professional and friendly. Phillipe at the 24 snack bar was friendly and a great bartender. Ser[... read more]vice was always prompt and they had plenty of staff to take care of all your needs. They have local and international liquor available, as well as Heiniken and XXX beer. The maids were friendly and provided great service. The Animation staff were very friendly and we got to know quite a few of them: Alex G, Alex S, Karla, Minvet, Samantha (wonderful with kids), and Mario.
The food was excellent. The buffet had a huge variety of meat, fish, rice, pasta, vegetables, vegetarian and vegan dishes as well. The food was well prepared and spiced, always fresh and replaced regularly. The fresh fruit, desserts, and ice cream were delicious. The a la carte restaurants included: Brazilian, Japanese, French (requires long pants), and Mexican. All were excellent and gourmet quality. Both the presentation and the flavours were superb. Best feature ever, no reservations for a la carte! You show up and find out how long for a table. Usual wait for us was 0 to 15 minutes. There was also a Sushi Bar next to the pool, Lilian was a fantastic sushi chef. Finally, the 24 hour snack bar near the pool had mini buffet for breakfast and lunch and a menu to order from at other times. The food was very good and it allowed us to have a quick meal near the pool or ocean. The room includes a mini fridge with drinks and snacks which is restocked daily.
The resort has chosen to have live music every evening instead of having "entertainment shows". Great choice. There was some music at the pool and in the restaurants, but not loud and not all the time. Again, great choice. If you like loud music all the time, partying not stop, and Animation staff blowing whistles all day, this is not the place for you.
I would be remiss if I did not mention the wellness part of the resort. There are two yoga studios. The large one is on the beach, the small one is behind the resort. You can see and hear the ocean while you take your yoga lessons in the large studio. They also have meditation. There is a schedule with the classes they offer every day. Thoroughly enjoyed the two yoga classes we took. There is also a gym and spa area in the forest. Beautifully laid out and gardened, fully shaded. They have a steam room and sauna as well. There was also an in ground hot tub surrounded by the forest.
There is a main pool, as well as four smaller pools located along the shoreline which face the ocean. If you want to take a relaxing dip, the smaller pools fit the bill nicely.
Akumal translates to turtle. The ocean in Akumal has coral reefs which are great for snorkelling and you can easily find turtles while snorkelling. The beach has a lot of seaweed which is picked up constantly by the staff, every day. We swam in the ocean, but you will need to move a little to the left of the resort to find a nicer entry point. Other than the seaweed we absolutely loved this resort.

Bahia Principe Explore Coba: Beautiful resort
I’ll try to be brief.
Our overall stay 6;13-6;20/2018 was a wonderful experience. Just because a few issues we had, I will still leave a positive review.
The one issue was: our room 32607 was in a great location, we had nice cool air conditioning the first night, it stopped cooling the 2nd day and for 3 days/night we had no a/c, it took until Saturday and 3 different reports until one rep. at Premier reception took action and the problem was fixed. No issues after that, should we ever go bac[... read more]k to any resort and the same problem would arise, I would be more aggressive right from the get-go and have them fix the problem.
The other thing that really bothered me was the concierge, we were approached the first day and before our room was ready by a concierge, he said the resort wanted to give us a welcome presentation with a $70.00 gift certificate, he was so nice and polite, I accepted and made the appointment to be the 3th day during breakfast. On the invitation card was: time, 1hr for the duration of this welcome presentation. I realized soon this was not a welcome presentation but a timeshare presentation, I was very disappointed and wanted to leave, my wife convinced me to hear him out in order to be respectful, the presentation lasted 2 hrs, so finally just told him respectfully to rap it up, we’re not interested one bit in timeshare, we just came to have fun and not pressured to join in a long lasting commitment. He signed the release form and we were out the door. This will be a huge lesson for the future, I’ll tell them right from the beginning we’re not interested and to leave us in peace. If the resort wants to improve in bringing in tourist, this one thing they should do, completely get rid of all timeshare representatives and promotions. I talked to other people about this and every single one of them, absolutely hate to be approached by these timeshare reps.
As far as food, the quality and the service, it was amazing. We were not able to visit all À la cart restaurants but the ones we had the privilege to eat and dine, were absolutely amazing. I would like to mention a few of them: Samuel at Mashua was so professional and polite, the food was the best.
Antonio at La Tequila was another young individual who had pleasure in serving and making you feel welcome, the food also amazing.
Ana at Cozumel Buffet was a very humble and sweet lady in serving.
Overall, our stay was well worth it and I wouldn’t hesitate to go back, I highly recommend Grand BahÃa Principe Coba.

Bahia Principe Explore Coba: Neat Room and Restaurants, OK Food and Service
The room is very clean and the room staff change bed every day. Room service is excellent.
There are many restaurants, space is bright and neat. Food is various but the quality is just okay. Sushi rolls-rice are not well cooked.
Brazil cuisine- bbq meat is too dry.
There are not too many options for non-alcohol drinks. Only orange and pineapple juice. Can make some fresh watermelon, or mango juice.

Grand Riviera Princess: Not so Grand resort
Grand Riviera Princess is showing signs of needing a facelift.
-Pool tiles missing or broken
- lounge chair broke on us because it was all rusty
- clean up was not done on a daily basis example the same cockroach sat squished in the hall way for 2 days, we went for breakfast someone had spilled milk or cream along side of the wall, came back for breakfast the next day and it was still there. Same towel sat on a walkway light the whole week we were there.
-staff was grumpy
- cockroach in ou[... read more]r room
- not enough lighting in hotel room (hallway especially)
- Oriental restaurant really bad not oriental at all, Pad Thai was made with a BBQ sauce and was more like noodle soup. We got up and left not finishing our meals, we were warned not to eat at the sushi restaurant by another couple who had gotten sick from it.
We heard a few other bad things about the other restaurants so we stuck to the buffets which were ok.
- we are not big drinkers, but the drinks were definitely light on alcohol.
Just overall if was not a pleasant/welcoming atmosphere. Would not recommend to anyone and would not return to this resort.

Bahia Principe Explore Akumal: A truly amazing resort!
What an absolute beautiful resort. Everywhere we went on the resort everyone was working hard and smiling from the gardeners to the servers to the bartenders. The concierge called at least 3 times to make sure everything was good. The food was absolutely amazing, so many choices and always hot and fresh. From the clean bathrooms to the refilling of the mini fridge to the butler lighting up our scent warmer every night in the room. Every morning the workers were at the beach cleaning up the seawe[... read more]ed. I have absolutely no complaints except it poured rain for 5 out of the 7 days we were there......... loved the shuttle service!
I would definitely go again!!

Bahia Principe Explore Akumal: Lovely Resort
Great Resort! my only 2 complaint's are, 1- the nightmare check-in service which was quickly resolved and 2- the mountains of seaweed on the rocky beach. Staff is nice, grounds well groomed, rooms clean, food plentiful and varied. Shows are typical all inclusive talent. All in all I would go to this resort again. The Luxury Hotel exceeds Coba and Tulum resorts on the same grounds. Its worth paying extra for the Luxury than the other 2.

Barcelo Maya Beach Resort: Fantastic Getaway
From the moment we arrived, our vacation was perfect. The staff were very friendly and helpful. I have a lactose allergy and the a la carte staff were excellent in recommending safe foods for me every evening. We celebrated our 6th anniversary during our stay and appreciated the hotel acknowledging our special day! Housekeeping kept our room spotless and the bartenders and servers made sure our glasses were never empty for long. We enjoyed a few rounds of mini golf and loved all of the a la[... read more] carte dining options. Our favorites were paella at La Fuente (Spanish), lobster at Marenostrum (seafood) and the lovely atmosphere at Brasserie (French). The evening entertainment was also very good - our favorite was the Circus show. We were repeat guests and will definitely be back again. Thanks to O'Neil for taking care of our booking and making arrangements for us to have an overnight accommodation in Toronto when our connecting flight was cancelled.

Ocean Riviera Paradise: nice resort
It was a nice resort, people were nice. The italian and sushi restaurant were delicious and liked the fact that we had wifi available 24/7. Did not like from the moment we stepped into the hotel there were people trying to sell us time shares and excursions.

Ocean Riviera Paradise: Beautiful and it has EVERYTHING!!
The guest services staff was amazing, kind and always had a smile. The entire time we commented on how hardworking and enthusiastic the staff was at every turn (from check in, bar staff, the entertainment staff to the cleaning staff and food services). Each building (Daisy, Eden, El Beso, Privelage) made it feel like their own resorts with the purposely placed landscaping. The al a carte food was perfect for the style of each restaurant. The rooms were beautiful; it was like each room was its o[... read more]wn master suite and a private oasis!!
We cannot say enough about this resort; so happy we came across it and booked.

Ocean Riviera Paradise: Excellent Family Vacation!
We stayed at this resort from June 3-10. After reading the reviews before we went I was a bit worried but it turned out to be an excellent vacation! You have to be extremely picky not to like this resort. It was absolutely amazing. We traveled as a family of 4, with 2 children, ages 5 and 2. We were in the Daisy building facing the pool. The room was large and clean. The only issue we had was the water in the shower would go from warm to hot out of nowhere so we had to keep adjusting it d[... read more]uring our shower. No big deal, although some people would think so! The mini bar was filled daily with beer, pop, water, milkshakes, Oreos and M&M’s. The resort has 5 pools. One at each building. We spent most of our time at the Daisy pool as it was closest to our room. My only suggestion, is that they keep the swim up bar open later than 4:30pm. The entertainment at the Daisy pool was almost non-existent. They only had something for the kids one day. They should look into having more entertainment at that pool. I know they do a lot at the adults only pool and Eden pool. I also missed the music at the Daisy pool, it would have been nice to have music playing. The food was excellent. We went to the buffet every morning. There was plenty to choose from, our favourites were the made to order omelettes, fresh donuts and fresh fruit. For lunch we usually got food from the small restaurant by the Daisy pool, which consisted of hotdogs, burgers, fries, etc. For dinner we tried the Mexican, Steakhouse, Italian and Japanese. The Italian and Steakhouse were our favourites. I would skip the Mexican restaurant next time. The Japanese was just ok but the show they put on was good. Overall the food was great but the service was a little slow at times but nothing to complain about. No one got sick from the food and my children who are very picky eaters, always ate. Big plus! The coffee shop and ice cream parlour were great! We enjoyed them every night after dinner. As far as the beach, yes, there’s seaweed everywhere but it didn’t bother us as we’re not beach people. Although we loved the pool at the beach, the view was awesome. The entertainment at night was really good. We only made it to a couple of shows because they do start late and when you have small kids it’s hard to attend. We left early both times but the shows were fantastic. The bowling alley was a nice touch as well but we only went once. Thank you to all the staff for making our stay so memorable. We can’t wait to come back!

Bahia Principe Explore Coba: Good and bad
My experience with Carol Weber at trip central was excellent. She was top notch and would definitely use her again for future travel arrangements.
The resort : beautiful grounds , food was good , pools were nice and water park for kids was fantastic. It’s too big ! If you love the beach this resort is not for you.
You have to travel by golf cart to the beach because of the distance and then once you get there the beach is just not nice. Seaweed is an issue anywhere and I don’t even mind [... read more]it as it’s part of nature however at this resort they have so much seaweed you can’t get in the water because they have tractors shovelling it out. I’ve never seen so much seeweed. You couldn’t even see the water. We had to walk quite a distance just to get to an area where we could swim and it was extremely busy because 4 resorts use this one small area.
We paid extra for the golden and it’s not worth it. We never even got a menu for room service , they don’t answer phones and when then they do no one ever comes ...
overall I recommend this resort if you like to stay by a pool and could guarantee a room by the pool and buffet area otherwise you will be on an enormous resort with not much to do ...
also they add fertilizer to the sprinklers so most days it smelled like a farm and in that heat it was extremely unpleasant.
I love going away for the beach , food , things to do and to soack up the sun and will not be returning here and I recommend other resorts in the area far more.

Ocean Riviera Paradise: Great resort
Resort was great. Lots of areas to swim including an adults only area. The Kids water park was good too. The food was pretty good ...not the best I’ve had in Mexico but wasn’t bad. Steakhouse, Italian and teppanyaki was the best.
A few cons: beach was bad, smelled awful. Pools made up for it though. It rained constantly for a few days and our room didn’t have an umbrella— good luck getting one from guest services or the front desk. We were soaked going to dinner, etc. Also, bring lots [... read more]of $1’s if you want to tip....front desk also did not carry “change†Overall, it was a good resort for the money we paid — would I go again? Bahia Principe Escape Sian Ka'an: Perfect for Couples!!
The Bahia Principe is a perfect getaway for couples looking to relax on vacation, but is also packed with fun activities throughout the day and night! My boyfriend and I booked a junior superior penthouse suite at Sian Ka’an and it truly felt like living in luxury for a week. The first night there, we called to have our jacuzzi filled and our butler also brought us a bottle of sparking wine!
Each night, Sian Ka’an had incredible performers with my favorite being the dancers from Latin Nigh[... read more]t, but throughout the other 3 resorts that you have access to, there are more shows to attend. We watched Michael Jackson at Tulum (which was amazing), but our favorite night by far was the Fiesta Mexicana at the Hacienda!
The entertainment team at Sian Ka’an is absolutely amazing and really made an effort to get to know us. They had activities at the beach from late morning to noon, then continued back at our pool, and returned in the evenings as well. They were so engaging and funny!
Finally, the food here was just absolutely incredible, whether it was at the snack bar, buffet, or a la cartes. They had such a wide variety and there was so much flavor!
Overall, this truly felt like a 5 star resort and I would not hesitate to go back again!!

Bahia Principe Escape Sian Ka'an: Excellent Resort
Food Great
Beach is a 10 min shuttle from resort
Beach wasn’t that good. Unless you like an enclosed off beach by rocks where there’s only like 300 feet of beach for everyone to swim at
If you are looking for a resort with a nice beach this isn’t the resort for you 2/5
If your looking for a very nice resort and very luxurious resort where you would rather be at a pool then this is the resort for you.

Bahia Principe Escape Sian Ka'an: Beautiful large property
Bahia Principe is 4 resorts covering hundreds and hundreds of acres. We stayed at Sian Ka'an which is the adult only resort. It is located 1 or 2 KM from the other three.
Not really a problem since the shuttle service to all the other resorts is very good. Our average wait time for a shuttle was maybe 2 minutes.
We had complete access to everything at all 4 resorts so there is plenty to do and a tremendous selection of restaurants.
Everything is true 5 star

Only some beaches are sandy. coral and rocks are present in some locations so step carefully. Apparently seaweed is a seasonal issue
Exemplary! Very impressed with everything and everyone. This place was very clean, staff was very polite, approachable and accomodating. We enjoyed the great pools and beach facilities. There was a great selection with the meals. Housekeeping, Diana and concierge service was excellent (Mario) and Pech. We are hoping to be back again.
