This resort is located on the best section of beach in Cayo Guillermo. Rooms were spacious, clean, and any issues were quickly addressed by staff. Food was quite decent for Cuba. Pool area was nice but difficult to get a lounge chair unless there early in the morning. We visited some other resorts in the area, some were a bit nicer but were also more expensive. Sol Cayo Guillermo is a good resort overall for the price you pay.

Melia Cayo Santa Maria: One of the best resorts
Most important tip: request a second floor balcony room overlooking the pool or garden view. The first room we were given was on the ground floor and had a horrible pesticide smell. Our patio was 3 feet away from dense bushes, so apart from no view, it made the room dark and uninviting. Within a day, the hotel moved us to us to a second floor room overlooking the pool and our friends were given a garden view. This resort has a lovely pool area and gardens and the rooms are all beautifully decora[... read more]ted, very spacious and the beds comfortable. All the staff are friendly and helpful. Only three negatives: the constant and sometimes very high winds in Santa Maria are okay for keeping cool in otherwise hot and humid temperatures, but sitting at the beach or trying to read in those winds was challenging. This is the only reason we wouldn't return to this part of Cuba. The other negatives were that we didn't have hot water for showers and the food in the buffet was not good and neither was the beach restaurant. We've been to Cuba before and did not have unreasonable expectations in that regard. The more expensive enhanced package is worth the cost simply because you can get reservations at 3 a-la-carte restaurants. We liked the Japanese one best, then the French and finally the Italian. The snack bar also has a really good selection of food like pizza, hot dogs and daily specials and is open 24/7. One thing people might want to know is that there is a nude area on the beach...far away from the resort beach, but it might come as a shock to some. We didn't care.

Melia Las Americas: The hotel, dining, service and grounds are awarage
I would rate this hotel on over all a 3 star hotel and over priced. In my 50 years of traveling, it was the first time that I did not go into the ocean, because the waives were too high and in fact, 60 per cent of the guests did not go in either. The pools were freezing cold. The are way too many steps on the grounds. The overall service attitude is not conducive to my expectation and many of the other guests that I have spoken to.

Tryp Cayo Coco: Amazing resort
My husband and I just returned from our 11 nights vacation in Tryp hotel, Cayo Coco, Cuba. This was our 3rd time in Tryp and we will go there again.
This place is a resort for every age. There is always something to do and the staff makes sure that you are never bored. The management is very helpful and try to accommodate you in every situation. The food is very good in the buffet restaurant and also in some a la Carte restaurants. We like buffet restaurant because there is lot to choose from. T[... read more]he variety of food is more then you can ask for. Some people complain but we would like to know what they eat at home???? LOL .....
The rooms are not top luxury but you have everything that you need and let me tell you matrasses are tops and some people said the same. Good bed to sleep in when you are on the vacation is pure pleasure. The staff is very friendly and we made few friends there over the time spent there.
We are looking forward to go back again.

Melia Habana: Melia Havana
The room was very clean. Unlike most hotels, the bathroom was very spacious. We loved the daily shuttle service into Old Havana. The pool area was amazing. The staff was courteous and helpful. We would definitely go back to this hotel. We could find convenient food markets and inexpensive places to eat within walking distance of the hotel.

Starfish Cayo Largo: 2 great weeks
Got back Feb 28 from our first visit to pelicano and it won't be our last. It is just 5 minutes from the airport which is a bonus right off the start. Our room was on the western edge of the site so being on the 2nd floor we had drinks on the balconey watching beautiful sunsets each evening before supper. The beach is superb for walking going either left or right. Going right you go in front of just 1 resort (Sol Cayo Largo) and then it is just natural beach after that for a long way. Lots of wi[... read more]ndy days so playing in the breakers was fun. Grounds and rooms and food are 4 star Cuba so no surprises good or bad. The island is resupplied twice a week so sometimes they didn't have everything for a day or 2 but we never found it a problem. Staff is friendly and helpful. Probably more friendly than elsewhere in Cuba because they are there for 20 and back home for 10. The whole atmosphere is very relaxing which is what we were looking for and why we will go back.

Melia Marina Varadero: Melia Marina Apartments is NOT Melia Marina Hotel
I booked our trip at the last minute and left with a girlfriend to escape the winter cold. Upon arriving to the apartment that we were booked into, we literally hooted with joy because it was so beautiful and spacious. New, clean, and with a fabulous view out to the Marina (room 304, I believe it was).
Things went a little downhill after that point. While the website tells you that you can buy an all-inclusive pass to the hotel facilities (food, drinks) every day, this is not accurate. Some day[... read more]s we were told that the hotel was too full, so we were out of luck. This would have been fine if (1) there had been a stocked supermarket nearby, (2) there were more than a couple of utensils and perhaps even a dish cloth in the kitchen, (3) if it wasn't randomly dictated who received the all-inclusive bracelets, and (4) if it did not mean we were excluded from accessing the pool and the beach (which is a public beach!). Without a bracelet on, you are stopped by hotel security and told not to enter the premises. We assumed the all-inclusive pass applied to only food and drinks, but apparently it applies to the pool and the beach as well. It was hard to figure out what the actually "rules" were because the staff at the apartments spoke very little English (if any) and told different guests different things.
I secured an AMAZING price via tripcentral.ca so I certainly feel no regret. But, I would not choose to return again.
If you have already booked an apartment, do not despair. Take this advice and have a great experience: (1) secure a room on the marina side, otherwise you'll have a view over a parking lot, (2) bring your own basic kitchen supplies such as dish soap and dish cloth, (3) pack your own food -- as much as you can! -- into your suitcase, such as pasta sauce, rice, peanut butter, etc. When you read the promotional material, it will tell you that there is a "supermarket" -- it is not what we think of as a supermarket. It has very little to actually make a meal with ... no fresh milk, no veggies, no fruit, not even bread. (4) if the staff at the apartments tell you that something is not possible, don't believe them .. go and ask another staff member, or better yet, walk over to the hotel side where the staff speak excellent English and are very professional.
I hope you will find this review helpful. I know I always appreciate reviews from other visitors! Have a great trip!

Hotel Vigia: best beach ever
The beach is terrific especially for small children. Fresh fish dinners at hotel were delicious. Hotel itself could use some updating but spent so much time walking on never-ending beach that this was a small issue.

Melia Peninsula Varadero: A Little Disappointed
The resort needs a little work. Crumbling balconys, broken bathroom fixtures, balcony railing not attached to the wall, stained bedding, broken TV,and doors that do not lock. The way it was advertised to us was deceiving. I guess the travel agent did her job at our expense. We felt left out because we did not speak French. Even the map of the resort was given to us in French. I must say though the resort employees are hard working and it shows. The gardeners, maids, bartenders, check in ,bell boys [... read more]and waiters were all very friendly and made the experience very pleasant. Upon our arrival at the resort our Air Transat rep was to busy . We were shoved into a dark room and given forms to fill out real guickly . Not greeted at the door with a cocktail and cold towel and then left to find our room with a French map dragging suitcases behind us in the heat. We did many day excursions which made our trip more enjoyable. We were away from the resort enough to help overlook all the negative things. I know you can't please everyone but this was the first time ever travelling outside Canada and doing an all inclusive and if our time spent at the resort was what was pictured in the brochures and as the travel agent told us we would have been happy.

Tryp Cayo Coco: Run Down
The resort is very run down, needs a lot of TLC. The food is very bland and tasteless. The people who work there are great. I would not go back. The rooms are run down lots of mold, the bathtub looks like it has never seen a scrub brush and by the way we saw a cockroach in the buffet area.

Melia Cayo Coco: The Best Resort in Cuba
The thing we liked best about this hotel was the size. Compact and cenient.
The resort itself is, in our estimation, perfect. The food is wonderful, the staff are friendly and efficient, we love the lobby in the evenings with the music and the lovely ambiance and our room on the lagoon was beautiful. Everything clean and well kept everywhere. This was our third visit and we will be back again someday soon. We have visited a lot of places over 20 years coming to Cuba and, as far as we are concern[... read more]ed - there is no where else we wish to be.

Tryp Cayo Coco: Great place to have a much needed rest
This is our second stay at Tryp this time we stayed in a ocean view room, it was great unobstructed view of the ocean.
The room keeping was good, food was better than other places we have stayed in Cuba.
When we first arrived we had our rooms moved due to there not being a door on the washroom. Had no problem at all getting them to move us.
There was 2 couples we went down with and met my son and his girl down there a couple days after we landed due to them arriving from Manitoba.
All couples we[... read more]re in the same section, my son went on a couple day trips (safari @ speed boat driving) he thought it was great.
Plan on going again in Oct.
Melia Jardines del Rey: Thoroughly enjoyed our stay
Rooms were clean, bedding was very comfortable for Cuba, washroom great. Everything is new. Service was quite good. Staff at front counter did all they could. One instance regarding internet service created a small problem which was you cannot text but must E-mail or have Twitter, Facebook, etc. to send messages.
Food was fantastic I have no complaints at all. There is a fair bit of walking so learn shortcuts, use shuttles or don't forget stuff creating second trips back to room.
Enjoyed a la ca[... read more]rt restaurants last night had filet of beef. Shows were quite good, enjoyed the Michael Jackson show the most. Everyone was quite pleasant. The only drawback at all is the beach because of coral on shoreline which will require some remedial work; probably take some time. Take water shoes and do take snorkel and fins, check out offshore-lots to see. This holiday was well worth the money and I would have no problem returning. Thanks for the rest and relaxation. Had excellent weather from March 1-8, 2015.
