Starfish Jibacoa: Lovely but basic resort

The third time at villasjibacoa. Nice pool and beach. Some rooms are needing repairs but ours was in good shape. The buffet was just average but a la carte restaurant was very good. Some bar tenders were great while some were not good. Overall a very relaxed resort at a reasonable price. Nightly entertainment was better than I had seen in the past. Jibacoa is a great location one hour from Havana.

Melia Las Americas: Best place ever

We were worried about going to Cuba because we heard the food sucked and I have gotten food poisoning on previous trips. This place was recommended to us by a friend who has been 12 times. The food was amazing, Wednesday lunch on the beach where they cooked paella right behind where we were sitting and slow cooked a pig, I had 3 servings of paella and two pork sandwiches and it was delicious. That night we were to eat at Limoncello and I ordered the lobster gnocchi, they used too much truffle  [... read more]oil but the lobster was delicious, I left the pasta as saturated in oil and I was still stuffed from lunch. There are 4 restaurants and the buffet, even the buffet was good, the pasta bar was where we ate the two nights we ate at the buffet, I suggest looking at the veggie options and then picking some up first from the other areas to add to your pasta, I would typically get broccoli and mushrooms and bring over, my husband got his cooked pasta, took it to another station and got calamari cooked and added. I did pesto, garlic and Alfredo sauce. We both loved the meals. Because it’s a golf included hotel (and we don’t golf) it is always possible to get a lounge chair at the ocean, which is steps away from the hotel. And playing in the ocean waves was how we spent our days or walking to the plaza beside the hotel (buy your souvenirs here rather than at the hotel) or walking along the beach. There are kayaks, paddle boats and small catamarans on the beach for your use. And games and activities galore. Wifi is limited and 1.50cuc per hour, it was nice to unplug for a week, I would preload instagram, pretype my thoughts for the day and connect in the evening and the hour lasted the whole week. The king size bed is really two twin beds pushed together, they remade up the bed with one set of bedding after our first night which resolved that issue, there is still a big crack down the middle but at least you could “cuddle” easier. Rooms are very clean with a stocked mini-fridge that I only found on our last day. As it’s on a peninsula you basically get an ocean view from either side, we had the “non-ocean” side which overlooks the golf course first, then the ocean. We were on the fourth floor and the balcony is small but fine for two. No hair conditioner supplied, but everything else there. The air conditioner worked too well, as my husband had it cranked so low I froze until I put a blanket on the bed. As it’s adult only you get an older crowd which was fine with us but some of the younger people we met were disappointed in this or would take a cab ($10.00 cuc on way) to town to a bar called the “beetle” and apparently it was amazing. The people (staff) were amazing and so nice to talk to and helpful. It’s very safe in Cuba as no guns and no drugs, you can walk the beach at night without concern. We only went on one excursion, but next year we plan on going to the cities.

Roc Barlovento: Maybe a 2 star hotel.

The grounds are OK. Obviously going through some updating. The room was OK. Large and fairly clean. Missing: There is a fridge in the room, but it is empty. You are allowed one bottle of water per holiday! I have never been at a resort that had a fridge and there was nothing in it! There usually are a couple of beers, some soft drinks and water. Replenshied every day. In Cuba. When I checked in they took me to the third floor. I am 71 years with bad knees. I had to drag myself to [... read more] the third floor room and realized that I would not be enjoying the resort from that level. So, I got in touch (dragged myself the three floors) with the main desk and asked to be moved. They told me the hotel was fully booked and I could not be moved until the next day at 4 p.m. Since I did not want to be trapped on the 3rd floor I harrased them until they moved me the next day. The first floor room they gave me was perfect and gave me access to the lobby, bar and dining area with no problem. I was happy with that. However, there was a phone in my room that did not work, so it was useless. Could not call the front desk for anythig. There was no remote for the TV and I made sure the maid knew so that I would not be accused of taking it. She told me they had problems with service and could not give me one. The maids are really friendly and willing to help. Generally the staff is well trained and know how to provide the services they are employed to do. I think management has to look how much it would cost them to provide some drinks in the fridge. I am not a soft drink person, but it would be nice to have a couple of Crystal cans and water. Since there are no coffee makers in the room, on has to get out of bed to get a coffee. The coffee is great, but again, you have to dress to get one! Even if the hotel offered room service with no phone, good luck. Not that I expect room service, but there are mornings when you would like a coffee and don't want to leave your room! Overall, I spent 10 days on my vacation. I enjoyed meeting people from different countries. BUT, WestJet should look at what is being offered at the price. The hotel should step up, or your support shold be reconsidered.

Palma Real: Good place to visit

Clean resort. Staff were friendly and helpful Food was typical Cuban and not very tasteful or hot. Rooms had mould from previous storms but were clean. Toilets did not work very well and no toilet paper at times. No hot water at times.

Playa Vista Azul: Great resort

The resort was fantastic.The staff were very friendly.The rooms were large& very clean .The bathrooms were very modern& clean.The maids were very friendly, fresh sheets&towels every day.The grounds very clean.The food gets repetitious after a while , but good selection

Starfish Varadero: Filthy resort!

The first thing you will notice is the rude staff that didn't want to answer any questions. The elevator is super small and scary must over 50 years old, on the way to our room the hallway floors are broken and filthy , the first room they gave us had dirt all over the floor, the sheet covers the wall's paint was peeling off and it was ifested with so many bugs. We asked for a room upgrade and the staff said they were sold out although the hotel looked empty it is after the slow season . They ga [... read more]ve us another room at the far end of the resort it was cleaner but once I lifted the sheet the mattress was full of stains there was only one single sheet on top it was disgusting! We ended up paying $300 to switch to another resort. There are 3 resort with the name starfish you we got tricked into thinking this was in the middle of the two but it was 15 minutes and $15 taxi ride

Melia Marina Varadero: Good experience for the second time

We stayed 4 days in this resort as our second time(first time was back in Jan 2016). We had good experience here with kids. Location: farther end from the airport, it took over an hour to reach to hotel because the shuttle bus had to drop off people to other resorts first; Food:nothing fancy but still okay, fair amount of varieties; Room: clean , door key required one time reprogramming but front desk turned around quickly; Beach: really in love with it, clean and shallow water, kids friendly Cu [... read more]stomer service: Very friendly staff, especially the shuttle driver who give us ride to the beach, always cheerful and friendly; Entertainment: not as good as 2 years ago but they do have shows every night; hopefully they can bring more entertainments/ shows for kids as the main reason we returned to this place is because this is a kid friendly place

Starfish Varadero: Stay at your own risk

There are like 3 or 4 starfish locations so we booked with the knowledge that they get good reviews but it must be one of the other locations that gets good reviews because this location was down right disgusting. The first room we got literally looked like somewhere squatters would live. We asked to change and got the same room but this one had some blue curtains and better bedding (but still gross) and a chair in the corner. I was honestly afraid to sleep there for bed bugs but we were tired from 12 hours of traveling and put up with it for one night. In the morning we actually looked at the mattresses and they were just layers of stains! We immediately asked to be moved and paid $300 extra to move to Solymar which was well worth it. The location is also about 15 mins from town and all the amenities so not very desirable. I would NOT recommend the Starfish Varadero, though I cannot speak on behalf of their other locations.

Hotel Bella Costa: Great resort!

The wi -fi was limited but it was not an issue for me since I knew that it's how it works in Cuba. Great variety of food. Amazing pool. Great service everywhere. Great beach. I had an amazing time. Thank you trip central.

Iberostar Origin Bella Vista Varadero: Great Resort!

We felt as though we got good value for our money overall. Food was excellent, rooms great, staff very nice! It wasn’t overly packed and don’t think they were even near full capacity. If they were I am not sure it would have been as good as it was ! The only issues we had were difficulties getting enough bottled water and borrowing towels seemed as though they were made of gold ! Resort had a great layout and great entertainment ! Overall better than we had anticipated !!

Melia Varadero: Great yime

The hotel was fantastic, we really enjoyed ourselves,the food and location were second to none.we went to Havana strongly recommend going via taxi 1957 Belair.Lastly the beaches our second to none. Thanks to all

Royalton Hicacos Resort and Spa: a 5 star resort

Highly recommend. This was our 6th visit and the place continues to show improvements. Did Diamond Club upgrade and glad we did. Rooms are very clean, and grounds are well taken care of. Staff is uber friendly with no request too large or too small. A tad expensive, but worth it if you want to treat yourself. Food is excellent. All rooms are mini suites with refridge, large balcony, fully stocked bar (diamond club) beer, red & white wine, rum and sparkling wine. If you want something el [... read more]se just ask. Beach is wonderful. You won't be disappointed by anything except the price tag (we stayed 2 weeks from Jan 24 to Feb. 7 and paid just over $8,000..

Melia Varadero: Ok Resort

The hotel and pool areas are nice and in good condition We stayed in a "Level" room on the fifth floor. The room was modern and nice. We found out that the wifi will not connect to some cell phones. The internet centre was also out of service for the entire week that we were there. Service was good, especially with the extra services included with the "Level" package. The food was overall poor. Much of the food at the buffet was only luke warm, perfect conditions for causing sickness. Meat  [... read more]portions were small and generally not good. The buffet did make made to order omelets that were good. We had reservations at the Japanese restaurant, only to find out that they had double booked. We had to sit at the counter at the back wall. It was embarrassing. The beach is overall poor. The pathways to get to the beach are dangerous. Lots of large rocks in the water until you get out to the sand bar.

Resonance Blu Varadero: Pretty good resort

Food was good but needs more variety. Pool was clean, beach was pretty good. Rooms need an upgrade, badly. New mattress and bed set. The whole shower needs to be replaced. Entertainment was pretty good. Excursions were great!

Iberostar Origin Bella Vista Varadero: Excellent resort

I have no complaints about this hotel. It was as was described and photographed on the website. The staff was very professional.If we requested anything it was attended to immediately. The entertainment was incredible. We are a family of 5 (3 teens) and we all loved our time spent there :)

Club Kawama: For the price sray here

ROOMS ARE DATED BUT CLEAN IT IS A OLDER RESORT GROUNDS ARE WELL KEPT STAFF HELPFULL AND THE BEACH IS THE BEST PART CLEAN AND BLUE WATER ..CLOSE TO VARADARO 10 PESO CAR RIDE SAFE PLACE TO WANDER AROUND. CLUB FOR CUBA THE FOOD AT THIS RESORT WAS VERY GOOD... ISNT A TIME I CAN SAY THAT AS THIS IS MY 4 TRIP TO CUBA

Roc Arenas Doradas: Good value for the price, terrible service from staff.

Beach and pool very nice, you could always find shade and chairs. Food was fine. Everything in our room worked except the last few days had cool showers. Our maid Yackeline was excellent and Eduardo in the buffet was exceptional. Unfortunately the rest of the buffet wait staff gave the appearance that this was the last place on earth they wanted to be. A very unfriendly crew. Also the lobby bartenders were pretty sullen, a smile probably wouldn't have killed them. The staff at the coffee  [... read more]shop were also very friendly and always pleasant. A few times the lobby bar said they ran out of wine, although there were many bottles at the buffet! One day when Air Transat reps came to inspect the resort things were much better such as extra staff at the buffet and everyone got silverware, things got painted, flowers in the lobby bathroom, etc. The very next day when the reps were gone, everything went back to the way it was before. Obviously this hotel does not care about their guests as much as trying to make a good impression on the travel agencies.

Memories Jibacoa: Quiet oasis

This was our 15th visit to Jibacoa, but our first since it became a Memories resort. There have been both positive and negative changes. The staff continues to be friendly and most eager to please. The beach area has been seriously affected by last fall's hurricane. Much of the natural shade is gone, and lots of debris is still on the beach. It will take quite some time to recover. The lunch and dinner entree offerings are not as appealing as they once were. If you are looking for a low key, quiet oasis in the country, away from the noise and crowds of Varadero, Memories Jibacoa is worth checking out.

Iberostar Origin Playa Alameda: We liked the resort a lot!

We go to Cuba for winter holidays for the past 20 years,and could say that Playa Alameda gave us probably the best experience.We loved the size of the resort, and the acomodations and all facilities are kept nice and clean.Minibar in the room and coffee maker,definitely a plus. Service and Entertainment team- great people, kept us busy!

Muthu Playa Varadero: 3 to 3.5

If you are looking for a 5 star look elsewhere. This is a 3 to 3.5 just due to the building being a little seedy. The beach is fantastic and it does't take very long to get there from all the rooms. It is a smaller resort, so you are closer to everything, lobby bars, entertainment, etc. No swim up bar but there is a pool bar. The food was surprisingly good and had taste and tang. Good juice bar.
