Grand Decameron Complex Bucerias Trademark: Beautiful resort
Well maintained buildings, grounds and pools. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The food was mainly buffet and ok. Short walk to restaurants and markets. A shuttle service to Puerto Vallarta would have been a nice touch but the taxis work well.

Crown Paradise Golden: Nice Resort
Grounds were well kept, resort was clean, views were amazing from our oceanfront room. Bar outside the oceanfront room was really noisy until very late. Food was good, lots of variety although I did pick up some sort of gastrointestinal bug 3 days in to our 7 day trip. Tables in the buffet restaurant were dusted off with a dish cloth between diners - no spray sanitizer or proper wipe down. Servers were very slow in bringing drinks or clearing plates. Hand sanitizer units around the resort w[... read more]ere empty. A few bar servers and restaurant staff wore masks - never saw any travelers with masks on. We’d been to this resort on several different occasions over the years - this time it appeared tired and in need of some sprucing up (pool tiles chipped, etc). New roof top pool area was very nice although all the locks on the bathroom stall doors were broken/missing.

Krystal Grand Nuevo Vallarta: Great resort and location!!
We had been here 4 years ago and loved it! We were very pleased to see the resort and staff were still awesome! The grounds, pool and beach are great! Our room was very nice, we had the king size bed with the living room.
The restaurants were very good! Only downfall was having to get up early to book the reservations for the next day!

Grand Palladium Vallarta: Everything I Needed!
This is the 2nd Grand Palladium I have been to (Mayan was the other-MUCH bigger but the seaweed beach was icky!).
Once you have a day to get situated with the grounds, it is quite easy to navigate the huge property because everything is spaced thoughtfully with many paths and walkways (mobility issues could be a problem, but you should know this already when booking) to get where you need to go.
The property is kept immaculately clean! I appreciated looking around and not seeing any trace o[... read more]f the nonsense we've been dealing with for the past few years. It was perfectly 'normal' and for someone that was 'not allowed' to travel out of her country (or within for that matter) for 3years, I welcomed not seeing sanitizer/masks/signs/arrows at every turn. We were even able to serve ourselves at the buffet-it was GREAT!
Which brings me to the food! Amaaaaaazzzzzing!
There are many restaurants to choose from, and unlike other resorts, you could book one every night if you'd like (through the concierge or the app), but honestly, you would not be missing out if you just did the buffet-which is open late as well! (men need to wear shirts that cover their armpits-and they do strictly adhere to that policy which is appreciated! Other than that, you don't need collared shirts or dress shoes which is nice to not have to pack!).
Mexican- La Adelita- was my favorite. It also had breathtaking views especially if you are able to book around sunset!
Italian-Portofino- I heard many people were disappointed, but I had the Sea Bass and it was delicious!
Bamboo- Asian- everyone I talked to said this was their favorite. (I don't really care for sushi but enjoyed the Asian buffet day!)
International- Las Terrazas- one of the best (tasters) of french onion soup I've had!
The Nest- you need to be in family selection to book this restaurant (or talk to Isis in conceirge)
The pools:
Adult infinity: is heated and has a look over ledge where I got to see whales jump every single day! It is not too busy, has a bar and you can usually get a lounger if you go down by 9am. (I was visiting at spring break)
The main pool: this is where the swim up bar is. Didn't seem overly busy, the music is a bit too loud, the aquasize at 12pm was fun every day! (this is also where the app says most the main activities are, yet I never was able to find them, which was disappointing. I tried for yoga, stretching, healthy drink classes, eco tour- and I never found anyone in 10 days that knew what I was talking about even though the app listed it as an activity daily. That was unfortunate.)
Kid pool: off the main pool with slides and sprinklers, as well the family selection has its own pool for kids too!
The ocean :)
Rolling waves, warm salty water, all the free water activities you could think of (surf, boogie board, paddle board, kayak, catamaran etc). There's also an area rocked off to avoid the waves and be able to wade with the little fishes that gets high tide and low tide and is great for the kids or people with mobility issues that don't want to play in the waves!
The spa:
Hydrotherapy is a must before getting a massage! It is a small circuit with different pressured waterfalls, hot sauna, hot tub and freezing cold plunge to get your muscles ready to relax! Highly recommend!
(there are huts on the beach for massage as well, but I would pay a little extra for this experience!)
All the staff is friendly and will do what they can to accommodate. The night shows are pretty decent (8pm for kids and 9pm for the main show). All evening noise shuts down between 11pm-12 which is really nice for those that appreciate their sleep and not hearing pounding music into the middle of the night!
It was nice to have access bracelets to the room without having to carry around key cards!
The only cons:
Because this resort is so far from PV, if you are booking excursions, be aware you will be paying EXTRA for a cab to get there! I have never been to an all incl where you had to pay travel on top of your already costly excursions. It is at minimum 500pesos (for CAD that cost me $40 ONE WAY) to get to the tours.( There are buses a short walk from the resort, but I was recommended to not take them solo going to the places I needed to be on a time restriction because they said it can be tricky with transfers if you don't know. That being said, if you know the area better and have the time, the bus is definitely the cheaper way to go!)
I traveled with WestJet. The hotel rep Epi was not as helpful as the other reps. He was only there for an hour and a half in the mornings. He did not explain the cost of cabs on top of the excursion until after I already booked the tours! He never did answer my emails with inquiries (since he was hardly ever at the desk). The only thing he did at the 'welcome meeting' was give me my ticket for transfer back to airport- no tour of the grounds or even explain what excursions they offered-I had to figure that all out for myself. (not GP problem, just making note)
*Not impresssed with Concierge at the stairs: When it was time for me to leave, I had to checkout early so had them store my bags. I was over an hour early to wait for the bus. I told the guys I was waiting for WestJet. I sat right in front of them on the couch for my transfer that was at 2:!5pm.
At 2:25pm I got up and asked if the bus usually arrives lates.
They informed me the bus was already there!
What?! I was sitting right there the whole time! Why wouldn't they tell me?
They said I had to take a cab. I asked to speak to their manager. They said no, it wasn't their fault. They asked the bus how many it was picking up and he said 7, not 8, so I wasn't on the list. ..I am pretty sure he made that up! I again kindly asked for a manager because I felt they should pay my fare and again I was denied. They said I could pay for it and deal with WestJet at the airport for reimbursement. I got them to call a cab and asked for a receipt. They said they don't do receipts. (so of course, WestJet didn't care for my story).
So I had to pay 600pesos (nearly $50CAD) to go to the airport that I already paid for with my travel package.
I was very disappointed in the way my trip ended.
I have never missed a shuttle in my life and I have never not been told that my shuttle was there by the guys at the front. (there were at least 5 of them that watched me sit there and wait!). Do NOT rely on these guys to help you out. (they ironically are the same ones that told me not to take the bus which I would normally attempt to save money - so I am not sure but maybe they make commission from the cab drivers?) All the rest of the staff was amazing!
All in all- this was a much needed rest type get away for myself.
Thoroughly enjoyed it. Highly recommend for family or for solo trips, it's perfect as long as you are ok with walking/hiking/peace and good food :)
In fact...I liked it soooo much, I am booking to go back next month and take a friend!
Thanks Grand Palladium!

We enjoyed an ocean view room from our rather basic hotel room
The grounds are pretty and the many pools are clean and well kept.
The rather thin wifi in our area didn’t allow us to log on with everyone else to obtain reservations for the restaurants of our choice each am.
The main buffets.. we chose the flamingos as it was near our bld#2 seemed quiet.. the food was just OK.. Don’t expect gourmet..Many local dishes which is fine
However having been we didn’t expect the 5 star experien[... read more]ce.. the staff and other guests ( largely Canadians pick up some slack..)
The long walkable beach is likely the real draw.. Bucerias a 10-12 minute walk on the beach..
A quick getaway for a reasonable price to miss winter

Krystal Grand Nuevo Vallarta: Krystal Grand - Excellent accommodations
The staff was amazing. The Altitude upgrade was well worth it! Having your room access on your wrist bracelet was awesome, no more keeping track of your room key. I preferred eating in the buffet to the restaurants as it had more selection. We were very pleased with our stay and would definitely go back.

Riu Flamingos: Another nice Riu!
Riu is a great chain, usually always enjoy our time at one.
My only complaint is that the swim up pool should be Adults only- all of it not part of it. Kids don't need to see what happens, and the splashing in the drinks is a little gross. Of course the rooms are going to smell when you first get there, this climate is not like Canada and it is humid. Go down to relax enjoy the hot sun, and don't complain cause you can't get a server near the pool. move your body and grab a drink and check out [... read more]the great people around you.
Food do the restaurants. food at Italian and the steak house was good, same as the Japanese's.
Tip the workers, they bring you coffee, or clear your tables or make your favorite drink a buck will not hurt.
I think I do like Mazatlán over this resort.

Tropicana Hotel: Great Value and Perfect Location
We were very impressed with our stay at the Tropicana Hotel. I feel that it surpassed its 3-star rating in many ways. Jorge at the front desk was very friendly and helpful. We requested an Ocean View room, and he was able to move us into a beautiful room the next day for the remainder of our stay. It had a million-dollar view of the beach, pool, pier, and fabulous sunsets from the balcony. We had a standard room which did not have a mini fridge. Bottled water was only provided the first day.[... read more] Since it is not recommended that foreigners drink the tap water, we purchased bottled water during our stay. The room was freshly updated, very clean and comfortable. The maid service was excellent. She cleaned and gave us fresh towels daily. The hotel was beautiful and very well kept. There were many people continuously cleaning and gardening throughout the hotel. Wi-Fi is only available in the lobby, restaurant, and pool area, but we were told that the hotel is in the process of providing Wi-Fi in the rooms.
We had our breakfasts included for a very reasonable price. The full hot breakfasts were served at the hotel restaurant which was very convenient. We also ate lunch on the beach in the private Tropicana area most days and had a few dinners there as well. We thought that the menu at the restaurant, although not a huge selection, was very reasonably priced compared to other similar restaurants in the area. The waiters at the restaurant were very efficient and continuously attentive to details. The waiter on the beach, Ulysses, did a great job of bringing us whatever we wanted. The other employees on the beach; the security guard and the person who set up the chairs and palapas were always very friendly and quick to help. The Tropicana Hotel is located right on the beach and in the Romantic Zone of Puerto Vallarta. It is within walking distance to the old town along the Malecon or on the cobble stoned streets. It is close to many amazing restaurants, shops, and amenities. We will definitely return to the Tropicana Hotel. It is very good value for the money and is the perfect location for a relaxing beach vacation.

Canto Del Sol: Disappointing Description of Rooms
When a hotel states luxury suite and charges more for the room, your expectations are higher. Not the case in this hotel. Luxury only means you have a balcony that over looks refrigeration systems and garbage located on the roof. We had to sign a waiver to accept a down grade to get a room that overlooks the pool area and ocean. Just the better view alone in our eyes was an upgrade. So we ended up spending more for the description of the room then what we actually received as the room descriptio[... read more]ns are very inaccurate. The rooms are very dated and the floors need to be replaced as they have seen too many years of feet. With the many Iguanas onsite, it was very common to see Iguana feces in the pool with no staff caring to remove it from the pool. Needless to say, my pool time was terminated. Food was very average, including A la Carte, and we did not get sick, so that was a bonus.

Decameron La Marina: Resort
The hotel was nice and clean. The staff were very pleasant, but most of them only spoke Spanish unless you went to the front desk and a few bartenders. Most of their clients were Mexican who were great people very pleasant and respectful. But did not speak English.. the entertainment sucked as everything was in Spanish and I didn’t understand and unfortunately my room was above the karaoke bar, which ran till around 1 AM and was so loud and everything was in Spanish so I did not take part in t[... read more]he activity and kept me awake sometimes and had to turn the TV up loud to drown this singing most of all I was very disappointed as my Sunwing representative at the airport said since the bus could not go to the hotel that they would stop on a street but bellhops would be there to help us take our suitcases to the hotel. This never happened and we were six people over the age of 60 and 70 stuck in the middle of a street trying to figure out where our hotel was. We were very afraid and anxiety was high as we didn’t know where to go after over a half hour we found somebody that understood some English, and told us where to go from the bus dropping us off to the hotel was a good three blocks Two of us had a disability and mobility issues, and had to pull her suitcases one with a cane and the other with a walker as we arrived upon the hotel, nobody even helped us, go up that ramp and the stairs to get into the hotel lobby

The resort was very clean people constantly working to keep it clean. We were unaware that it was quite a distance from Puerto Vallarta which was another change in time.
The rooms were well kept and very clean
Unfortunately communication was very difficult as we found resort was geared to the Mexican community where it was 99.9% Spanish language we had difficulty finding a person who could speak English.
When we arrived at the resort we had no one to guide us as to where to go we felt we w[... read more]ere left out in the street to find our way around no bellboy to help with luggage considering we had a person using a walker and one with a cane the roads were difficult to walk on so it was somewhat discouraging to deal with this.
The food was ok but no bacon or sausage at anytime. The steak house meal was delicious.
We were unaware that the shows were at the other resort which we were never told. In our resort every night it was keroke very loud and totally Spanish.
For myself I would not return as it was so far from Puerto Vallarta

Decameron Los Cocos Guayabitos Ramada: Still okay for trip 7
This was our 7th trip to this resort in the past 19 years and we stayed two weeks. Sunwing no longer has a rep there so you are on your own to get information. There have been a few changes even since our last trip there about 4 years ago. The beach club was sold and Decameron purchased two hotels a little further down the beach towards town. They also replaced the garden with a very large grass roof structure for bus reception and combined Cocos 2&5 bar and restaurant.
Employees seem ne[... read more]w and not as happy as on previous trips. Wait staff in the dinning room were fairly good at snatching dirty plates but failed at coffee, tea and water refills. Room cleaners did their job well. Towel supply was a bit spotty as we were shorted towels a couple of times.
Food quality at this hotel over the years has generally increased with every visit. It was disappointing to me to see that this time the quality has gone back to fewer choices and cheaper cuts of meat. We did okay with the usual rice and beans stuff but there wasn't much for variety this round. The tortilla soup, my favorite, was never on the buffet. The a-la-cart was okay but booking it was a nightmare. The booking system would NEVER let you book. We had to complain to the manager who "squeezed" us in to get there.
Covid measures during our time there were almost not existent. Saw signs but they were ignored. Food prep wore masks as expected but very few others.
Enjoyed the sunshine as the weather was perfect as usual.

I wish they didn't have to push the Paladium Travel Club so much. That was the only drawback, but they do it every time so it wasn't a surprise. I found that most of the agents weren't so pushy this year, so that was nice.

Decameron Los Cocos Guayabitos Ramada: Most good
2 week vacation in March 2023. Was there in 2020 just before pandemic.
Flew Sunwing. New Max8 737 but has no on-plane wifi or entertainment. Bring your own.
Beach in front of Los Cocos almost non-existent now (NOT like in the picture) but the rest of the 2 mile long beach is still very nice. It was wonderful that you can use La Marina/ Isla Coral for food/ drink & beach chairs. This was our deciding factor on going here again.
1-1/2 to 2 hour bus ride to resort (yuck). Use[... read more] the airport bathroom and buy any refreshments from Oxxo in the airport parking lot before leaving.
Check-in can be slow depending on how many others were on your bus. English rare at the front desk all the time, but the employees try.
Building 4 has lots of steps, far from the beach and not all rooms have view of beach from balcony Busy roadway on backside, but overall quiet compared to many complaints heard from lower units and La Marina/ Isla Coral resorts. Large rooms. Outdated lock & key system and may want to bring a powerbar if you need extra plugins.
Food & drink - Enough variety provided between the 3 resorts. La Bamba at building 4 not open for breakfast anymore (too bad). Not impressed with the a la cart's and only used once. Liquor lineups not bad and no complaints on brands or watering down.
Beach & activities. Quiet enough weekdays with more sellers than beachgoers. Weekends very busy with 1,000's of locals. Entertaining, but very noisy, even at the resorts. Get your beach chair early. Everyone ignores new no-smoking law.
Guayabitos/ La Peneda - Nice walk along one main street but like most areas, watch your step on uneven and holey sidewalks. Most garbage bins overflowing and could benefit with a pickup more than once a year. Large market in La Peneda on Thursdays with venders selling both old and new. Really enjoyed it but a long walk to get there. Monday market at Guayabitos is small with very few deals found. Always felt very safe.
I had an issue with swelling bug bites and Kenia helped me find Benadryl at a local pharmacy. Nobody else I encountered had any bites. Very strange.
Checkout & Airport. Checkout okay. Bus ride okay. Daytime this trip. Outside Puerto Vallarta is a dumping ground. Stock up on food & snacks even the night before departure. Airport pricing is stupid - 300 pesos for a burger. No water bottle filling and buying a bottle starts at 190 pesos.
Overall value - This was best price found over all others for this time period and we knew the beach was very nice. Recommend only if budget is the deciding factor. Will I go there again? Doubt it.
