Ocean Riviera Paradise: second time around just as good as the first!
We have visited this resort twice this year and both times were amazing. The beach isn't as good as other places like punta cana and varadero but the rest makes up for it. We love the layout of this resort, very easy to get around without confusion. We were booked in the el beso section both times and would highly recommend it if you are travelling without kids. The food was the best we had at a resort in the Riviera Maya. The bars were a little short staffed, and sometimes took a little while [... read more]until being served but, heck, we were on vacation and had no particular place to be at any time. If the price is right next year, we will probably be returning .

Blue Bay Grand Esmeralda: Love this resort! Beautiful â¤ï¸
We went for a friend's wedding and it was beautiful â¤ï¸ Nothing is perfect and of course there were some things that could be better, like better maintenance on the 3 pools. The service was great and I give the food a 8 out of 10. The room was clean and bed was comfortable. This was my second time at this hotel and I would go back again!!!!

Bahia Principe Explore Tulum: Beach of seaweed
The grounds were well kept the food was excellent, the beach was poor, there really was no swimming just wading up to your waist in warm water and there was so much seaweed, they raked and hauled seaweed all day long. They actually had loaders and backhoes on the beach hauling it away. The beach was short and really difficult to walk along.

Sandos Caracol Nature Resort and Water Park: Great resort !
This resort was great! There is quite a bit to do and see there such as various trails, a mini zoo, a cenote and more ! The food there is absolutely delicious and always super fresh. The international buffet has different themes everyday which changes the food selection so there is always something new. The people there (staff, guests, visitors) are all super friendly and very helpful. The only thing I did t like was how the spa (which you have to pay extra for) walks around and pressures you in[... read more]to buying a massage which is WAY over priced. Once they give you the appointment there is no way to back out of it so either you go and pay around $90 a person or you don’t go and still get charged !!!! There are people on the beach who do it for half the price...don’t be sucked in by the spa. The beach they have is VERY rocky in the water. We went on an excursion to Maroma resort and the water there was MUCH less rocky. I guess it was just Sandos’s section that was like that. Everything was great otherwise. They upgraded us to a “better†room which was alright. It had a better bed and a “jacuzzi†tub (which didn’t work the greatest). They could improve on their plumbing but it wasn’t a huge issue. The best part was that there were free roaming animals EVERYWHERE! Anteaters, cats, peacocks, raccoons and MONKEYS!!! They were outside our balcony everyday which was really awesome.

El Dorado Casitas Royale: Not as expected
The grounds are fantastic, so many places to explore, loads of walking paths.
The staff went beyond expectations, such great service and so much fun.
Restaurants were really good, a good selection of options. But, the buffets were disappointing. Cold foods at the supper buffet. Selection in buffets were disappointing.
We loved our room, we had a Casita, our area was really nice and the neighbours were a blast. We never made it to the large pools, enjoyed our area very much. The pools were gr[... read more]eat.
The beach was such a disappointment, too rocky for a swim, never mind the huge piles of seaweed which washed up. We were there for 10 days and they were still cleaning it up when we left.
We will not be back, but we never go to the same place twice. We would recommend to others, but will warn about what we found.

Ocean Coral Riviera Cancun: Disappointed
We have been wanting to go to this resort for for the last five years. We have stayed at one of their other resorts and we're very happy. But at this resort the rooms seemed dated and their was no dresser to put our clothes away. The closet doors you had to slammed closed or the light In the closet wouldn't go off. There was dried vomit on the tiles around the toilet. And the patio doors were not very secure. And they had a mimi fridge that had 2 beer and pop and water and that was called the mi[... read more]ni bar. The sofa in our first room looked like it was from the dump. Ripped and dirty. We paid for an ocean view and king bed. But we're given 2 doubles and a view of the trees. Front desk just said well you don't always get what you request but I said yes but I paid extra for a ocean view then you should get an ocean view.
They did finally move us to an ocean view but why do you have to go through that.
All the other staff that work there were really friendly and the food was OK too. .but I wouldn't go back to this resort.

Grand Sirenis Riviera Maya: Exactly what we wanted and exactly as advertised.
Everything on our trip was exactly as was promised and what we had wanted. The beach at Grand Sirenis isn't the long, lush "classic" Caribbean beach that everyone imagines but they never advertise that it is. It consists of three areas: there is a main area that is perfect for families with younger children, a little farther along is a smaller area which is used more by adults, for those wanting to be totally alone there is a secluded undeveloped beach which is a bit of a hike away but is als[... read more]o well worth the walk if you want to be alone. The snorkeling on the second beach was absolutely excellent with coral reefs and so many colourful fish so very close to shore. The resort is very clean, the food is actually very good and there is a coffee shop on site that has probably the best coffee we've ever had anywhere. We strongly recommend the Japanese restaurant for one of your a la carte evenings. The show, the atmosphere and the food is fantastic.
Probably the most pleasant part of our experience was the room we were in. We've been in the Caribbean before where the rooms are "less than desired" and you are forced to reconcile your feelings by saying "well we will only be sleeping there". This isn't the case here. Our room was first rate in every respect. Immaculately clean, completely modern and a really great place to relax and unwind after a day enjoying the sun. The Wifi connection left a fair bit to be desired, however.
The pubs are nice but the rooftop bar is the perfect place to end your night under the stars. It's elegant, tastefully decorated and the music is loud enough to enjoy but not too loud to also enjoy conversation with others.
The resort is essentially full of Canadians and Brits. We noted very few Americans. Some of the Brits can be a little "over the top" but we had a great time with Canadians of all ages.
The resort is incredibly large so it has enough size to have everything you want but it is also important enough to note that it isn't TOO LARGE. In other words, it's big enough to have everything but not so large that you have to take the golf cart shuttles anywhere, unless you want to. We walked everywhere, everyday. For those that want them, however, there are plenty of shuttles available.
Our only "complaint"? The "main pool" was closed for annual maintenance during our visit. This did not affect us one bit. It was physically the farthest pool from our room anyway so we probably wouldn't have used it. Further, the resort was only about half full when we were there so the remaining pools were never so full that we couldn't find a lounge chair at any time of the day or found the pools to be overcrowded. Apparently it would have been a much different story if we had gone a few weeks earlier during Spring Break when they would have been at capacity but we also assume they scheduled this annual maintenance to coincide with a quieter period so that crowding wouldn't be an issue. The bottom line is that it did not create a problem for us whatsoever.
We got exactly what we were looking for. A week of sun, sand, snorkeling and perfect Caribbean atmosphere combined with escaping the last of the Canadian winter.

Bahia Principe Explore Coba: Nice Resort
Staff here are wonderful, hard working, friendly, helpful!
Rooms were very nice, clean, stocked. Grounds were well taken care of - beautiful!
Pools were nice. It was a large resort and the trolley system worked well, not too many times did we have to wait long to get to were we wanted to go. Food was good! Entertainment was good!
Beach was not so good!
We stayed in the Coba so had to take the trolley down to the beach, which was not a problem at all - however, we found the beach very nar[... read more]row, was angled so made it difficult for walking and there were days you couldn't even see the water through the seaweed. Mind you the staff there worked so hard every day to clear the seaweed, there was just so much of it at the time of our stay!
We wish there were more activities to do on your own, such as a pool designated for volleyball - they had volleyball everyday but there were so many people playing that we did not join in for that. Basketball courts, maybe tennis courts would be great! and areas with tables that people can go to and play games or cards throughout the day would be great as well - we found the lobby not to accommodate this.
Overall our vacation was very good, weather was wonderful - hot, sunny - just what we were looking for!

Grand Oasis Riviera: Sweeeeet!!!
This place is truly a hidden gem. I have to admit we were upgraded to the Adult only Sian side of the resort and it was SOOOOO beautiful. We were on the first floor and had a walk out to the pool area for the adults only and it was a private oasis. I am happy that we were up graded as I don't know if would want to be on the other side. Many children and I would not like the idea of having to wait in line for the buffet. If you go PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE go to the Oyster restaurant and say hell[... read more]o to Victor. He is an incredible gent and make sure to order the surf and turf. The steak was incredible!!! We ended up going there 4 nights out of our 7.

Iberostar Selection Paraiso Lindo: Beautiful and huge resort
We stayed at the Iberostar Paraiso Lindo from April 5 to 12. The weather was amazing every day with temperatures around 29 degrees and nice breezes. We travelled with my parents who are in their early 70's and emailed ahead of time for a room request and they accommodated us nicely with everything we asked for.
The Good:
-The resort and grounds are amazingly beautiful and very clean.
-The staff were so incredibly sweet, we just loved them!!
-the pool was huge and had very easy access in an[... read more]d out. Some areas have steps to get in and some have a gradual slopes to get in.
-The swim up bar was gorgeous and the service was pretty fast! The drink waitress was always coming around so if you were laying out on the lounger you never had to wait long for a drink :)
-The beach was gorgeous, warm and had a lovely sandy bottom...no rocks!
-The rooms were very nice and clean and the bed was the most comfortable one I have ever had at any resort I have gone to. Mini fridge was always stocked.
-With the resort being so big, it was so nice being able to call the service desk for a cart to come pick you up. Wait time was less than 5 minutes, it was awesome!
-The lazy river was so fun, we just kept floating around and around meeting new people each lap...it was one of our favorite things to do!
-We all felt very safe at this resort!
The Bad:
-The food was ok at best. We went to 3 ala cartes , the El Museo French gourmet (pretty good, crappy desserts), the Mexican restaurant (yuck, I got sick for 2 days after with stomach cramps and diarreah) and the El Fogon steakhouse (ok but they pushed a specific cut of beef on us and when we got it it was mostly fat..felt like they were trying to get rid of their low grade beef or something). The buffets were repetitive and the food got boring. Always something to eat but always the same.
-Check in was a nightmare. We arrived around 12:30pm and our room wasn't ready. We waited around hoping maybe one would become available but they wouldn't even check for us and just kept saying 3:00pm, al the while other guests were walking away with their room keys. We even went up 2:45pm to see if it was ready and they said 3:00, wouldn't even call and see if it was ready or not. At 3:02 we went up and they picked up the phone and checked and they were ready. The shift changed at 3:00 and they didn't want to deal with us so they pushed us off to the next shift. We were exhausted and my parents are elderly....this ruined our first day.
-There was no place to get food after 12:30...we were turned away at the main buffet and the pool buffet. We ended up way down at the beach and found a hut with French fries and burgers (under cooked). All the walking bothered my mothers bad leg and wiped us all out. Our first day was a write off. So disappointed.
-The beach had so much seaweed that you couldn't swim a few days. It was like a huge sheet of seaweed covered the water, it was gross. I know its not the resorts fault but none the less it still sucked!
-The first 2 days it was impossible to get loungers around the pool and the beach area. They started policing the area and removing towels off loungers if they were empty for an hour to free them up. At first I didn't like the idea but by the 3rd day there were loungers galore and it was lovely :)
-our safe was broken on the second day but they were there within 15 minutes to fix it. Some people thought it was a scam to steal your money but I don't think so. The person fixing the safe wouldn't enter the room unless we were there and my husband noticed that the cleaning staff were watched by a supervisor or someone when they cleaned every room. We had no issue with theft or anything like that.
Overall a nice resort, I would give it a 3.5/5 mainly because of the food, it was disappointing.

Grand Sirenis Riviera Maya: Beautiful place to be
The grounds are lovely, the food is very good, and the amenities and activities are all well done. There is an "up sell" component, with staff wanting you to go to the spa or take a tour (become a member). This is a large resort and things are quite spread out. You will be walking. The older part of the resort is quite dated in decor and upkeep. The elevator in our building didn't work so we used the one in the building next to us.
