Barcelo Maya Palace: Still our favourite

We just returned from a week at the Barceló Maya Palace. We had stayed here the first year the Palace opened & we were pleased that not much has changed. Grounds are beautiful, beach is lovely although a seaweed problem is plaguing the entire Caribbean. Has a problem with a leaking fridge which we mentioned to the fellow who delivered our luggage & he immediately got on the phone to have it addressed. Within 30 minutes another person arrived & had it working perfectly. Rain shower was great  [... read more]particularly when the shower in the tub did not work (we didn't care). Rooms getting a bit worn around the edges but still very nice & clean. Mattress & bedding was very good & A/C more than sufficient. Loved the buffet & actually cancelled reservations for the a la carte restaurants we had booked. The gym is by far the best gym we have experienced at a resort. We will be back again next year! One complaint....slow check-in but we were okay with it.

Riu Palace Riviera Maya: Riu Palace great as advertised

Despite reading reviews that hotel was dated, we found it to be authentic Mexican with lots of real wood trim and decor. Sure the odd floor tile was chipped,but who cares. Food at buffet was varied, hot and delicious. Lobster bbq on beach one day, and lobster offered again the next day at dinner in buffet. Delicious each time. Another day it was medium rare filet mignon, juicy, tender and delicious. Beds were comfortable. Water pressure was good in shower. Room was kept spotless as well  [... read more]as public areas of hotel and grounds. Staff were all smiling and friendly.

Riu Palace Mexico: Excellent Resort!

The rooms were amazing and always cleaned nicely daily. The grounds around the resort were always tidy and clean. The beach was nice lots of chairs and many shaded areas. The food was amazing and lots of different items to choose from ther was something for everyone.

Grand Sunset Princess: Good resort

Just got back, stayed in the sunset side April 13-20 2018, had deluxe junior suite. We flew Sunwing and they had us packed in like a can of sardines, not comfortable at all. They managed to give you a drink thats all, they don't even give you a pack of crackers during a 6 a half hour flight. You have to pay for all snacks, all a $$ grab. You best use the washroom before they start serving because once they start you cannot get through the aisle and its a slow process. They also only give y [... read more]ou 4 hrs before your trip to check in, so you know your gonna pay for your seat to make sure you get a seat together with your partner weeks before your departures, another $$ grab. Check in was a little aggravating, our flight was hour early so we had to wait 3 hours for a room. They couldn't tell us when it would be ready so had to keep checking back. Other than that our stay was fabulous, no complaints with the resort. Resort is clean and well lite up at night. Bands in the lobby ever night was great. Lots and lots of food choices and many food stations in the buffets each day and night, the grill by the pool bar was full of burgers and hotdogs so that was great quick stop, they bbq around 700 burgers and 400 hotdogs a day. Pool service was fabulous, thanks to Mariana Gomez for the awesome friendly service whom brought us so many different cocktails. Never had any trouble getting loungers around the swim out pool section. Always went down around 7:45 and found a umbrella for shade. Lots of seaweed on the beach, nothing you can do with that. Tractors did try and keep in under control. Lots of wildlife around the resort. Friendly cats hung out around the statues, lots of coati, iguanas, doves and other birds. We always try a different resort, in saying that I would return to this resort again.

Platinum Yucatan Princess: Did not meet our expectations

I will start out by saying the staff at the hotel were all very friendly and helpful. This hotel is not for anyone that likes the beach. The picture shown to the left does not represent what we saw. The first day we went to the beach and you could not get to the water for the seaweed and the smell from the seaweed. A couple of days later we went back that they were cleaning it up. We never ventured out onto the sand. We enjoyed the pool area along the swim up rooms and the lounge chairs.  [... read more]We spend our time sitting under the pergola's. The activity pool with the swim up bar got very noisy in the afternoon. This is also not a hotel to pick if you have trouble walking. The basic rooms are the farthest away from the restaurants. You have to upgrade your room to get closer to the restaurant. The beds were very comfortable and the rooms spacious. Our only complaint about the room was the musty smell in the closet. I had to wash everything that I had in my suitcase and spray my suitcase with Lysol when I got home.

Dreams Jade Resort and Spa: Great Resort

Great resort with nice pools and lots of amenities. My only complaint was the beach. The beach was small with lots of seaweed. The pictures that the resort has posted on their website were misleading about the beach. The restaurants were good with lots of choices. Very good resort to take kids. The staff were excellent at the kid`s club.

Royalton Riviera Cancun Resort and Spa: Clean rooms

We had a one bedroom suite with oversized jacuzzi. Big clean room with big rooftop terrace and huge jacuzzi really a small pool. Restaurants pretty good, buffet alright. Good service everywhere. Food truck by main pool excellent for lunch. The cafe for coffee and gelato was excellent. Facilities clean and well maintained. Beach has a lot of seaweed. Difficult sunwing flight delays on both flights. Really good resort though.

Ocean Riviera Paradise: Amazing Resort

Rooms are big and georgous Food was amazing Bar staff served you at pool side and on the beach Wonderful nightly entertainment Grounds well groomed This place has everything....even monkeys Layout of resort is well done, gives you the feeling of strolling along a street.

Margaritaville Island Reserve Riviera Cancun: Beautuful Resort

The resort was very beautiful and well run. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Check in and out was a very smooth and quick. We were greeted with a glass of champagne. It was a pleasant experience. The gardens were very well kept and lush. The beach unfortunately was not very nice with tons of seaweed on shore and unable to swim in the ocean with red tide most days. We did not see anyone in the water. Our room was in the adult section, building two. The room 2423 was very nice. The [... read more] view was beautiful overlooking the pool area and we could see the ocean from our balcony on the 4th floor. Unfortunately the view from our door to the room overlooked a sewage treatment plant. The plant spewed methane gas and the sewage smell was nauseating. We would not recommend staying in this wing of the adult section. The adult pool was limited in lounge chairs and there was no shade after 11 am. It was difficult to get a place for the day unless you woke up at 6:30 am to claim a chair. The food was very good in all the restaurants. Le Chique restaurant was truly a wonderful experience. A definite must if you stay at this hotel. The tours were well planned but we had an unpleasant experience in Playa del Carmen. We were scammed from a vender into buying a necklace that was supposed to be 14K gold and found out it was silver with gold plate. Not what were expecting. Beware of anyone that approaches you saying he is your pool bartender. On a positive note we did like Mexico, the people and our resort.

Blue Bay Grand Esmeralda: Slow, rude and thief’s

The hotel itself is nice, the grounds are vast and there is a lot of wildlife which was neat. The staff were polite for the most part but not very helpful. The basin fell out of my bathroom sink and flooded our hotel room. 2 rooms later I was placed into a room that had not yet been cleaned and forced to wait 40 minutes for a room key as the gentleman moving our luggage only had him master key on him. No one arrived with these room keys so I journied to the front lobby for them. This room also h [... read more]ad drainage issues and the water would pool around your feet when you shower. Another person with our group was taken to 5 different rooms upon arrival because they had over booked the resort and each one they took him to was occupied. I had inserts for my heels that were stolen out of 2 pairs of my shoes. The service at bars was incredibly slow I think mostly because they looked to be understaffed. Room service is a joke do yourself a favour and make it to the “late night buffet” if your hungry. The first time i ordered my food never came. The second time I was hung up on, half of my food never arrived they changed my order without contacting me as they were out of certain items and when I called to find out where the rest of my meal was I was told it was on its way yet it never arrived. In terms of food all of the restaurants were pretty great, although few know how to properly cook a steak. Also pack extra lighters I lost all of mine and had to pay 18$ American to buy one at the gift shop..

Bahia Principe Explore Akumal: Beautiful Resort

Very impressed with the resort for its cleanliness, size and friendly staff. Special mention about Dinaldo and Alberto at the front counter; they were very helpful to have our room changed. The first room given to us by the front desk staff (sorry did not get his name) after I requested a room with an ocean or at least a garden view when I booked my vacation in October 2017. The rooms were very clean and the cleaning staff was very friendly.

Grand Riviera Princess: Great Vacation

We loved the resort , the food and the staff our only issue that we had was small children in our pool . We booked swim up room in the 13+ area thinking that would mean we wouldn’t have small children in our area. Unfortunately if you want swim up without children of any age make sure you book adult only! Kids jumping off the sides and off jet pool ledges and splashing water in our drinks was annoying and theirs parents didn’t seem to care. We paid a lot of money to have swim out with the lo [... read more]unges right out our balcony doors that are emerged in the water, people would come along and just stop and enjoy our lounge whether we were in the pool or not. Very frustrating! Those areas should have signs keeping children under 13 out or security walking around making sure kids aren’t jumping in the pools which apparently “isn’t allowed”. If I ever spend that kind of money for swim out again I will make sure it’s more of a private area where other won’t come and help themselves to what I paid for!

Bahia Principe Explore Akumal: Love this resort!

The whole resort is kept immaculate. The food was fantastic. I can't say enough good things about this resort. The people are so friendly. Our butler, Alex, went above and beyond what was required to do his job. We will definitely go back.

Grand Oasis Riviera: Half decent hotel

The hotel amenities were fine. Hey were there, but not necessarily functional. They had a few bars there, but half the time there was no bartender. When there was a bartender, it would take a while for them to “get ready” to serve. You had to wait a long time for a simple drink. Basically, they need more staff present to serve and man the bars. We would frequently have to go from one end of the resort to the other end (from pool to the beach) just to get one drink. Coffee was only served i [... read more]n one bar, and there was always a line up at that bar. There was also a smell of stale water all around, like the dirty water (maybe sewer water). Wifi was paid ($45 US for 5 days), but only worked well at the indoor areas, not so well at the pool areas. The good: the kids pool is a great area. They could add some light ambiance music over speakers in parts of it though. The beach area was really nice and they offered free snorkeling gear at times. Not sure if thee was a catch to it since I didn’t use them. The nature surrounding the resort was beautiful and calming. Overall the experience was not bad, but I will be looking at a different place if I go back to Mexico.

Sandos Caracol Nature Resort and Water Park: Something for everyone

The Sandos Caracol Eco Resort had so much in one place. We stayed at the select club side and it was well kept and kid free. This resort is geared towards family’s. If you are travelling without kids, get yourself the upgrade to the select club. The restaurants were good but I recommend the select club restaurant by the pool for breakfast and lunch if you are looking for a quick meal. The Mexican restaurant was great. Our server Alfredo was superb, I hope I got his name right...Service around  [... read more]the resort was fabulous. The room was standard but they made sure we had everything we needed and promptly. This resort is big but not too big. There are many trails and a cenotes within its grounds. I would stay here again.

Bahia Principe Escape Sian Ka'an: Very relaxing

Friends recommended it to us. We didn’t use the pools at all as there were no swim up bars. Also the resort could use one more restaurant on site for those that don’t want to stay on site. The room service menu was very limited and somewhat disappointing.

Blue Bay Grand Esmeralda: Great first time in mexico

My stay at the Blue Bay Grand resort in Mexico was great! But what made it so great was the staff; they were so friendly, helpful and amazing. The resort was modern and had lots to do. Food was awesome and the property was very clean. The only thing I would mention is that the beach had a lot of rocks and seaweed compared to the neighboring resorts (but the pools made up for it) Would definitely come back.

Bahia Principe Explore Coba: Beautiful

Very nice, staff are friendly. Rooms are spacious, but need some upgrades. Food was good, at night you have to wait longer for the trolley to take back to ur room. Beach is far u need to take the trolley. Akumal is a better resort with better amenities. Closer to the beach and pool.

Grand Riviera Princess: Beautiful resort

I will start with the grounds of this resort... Absolutely Pristine! I have yet to be at a resort that has taken as much pride in cleanliness as this resort. We had booked a Junior Suite deluxe swimout, which was awesome. I don't know that I will be able to book anything but from this day forward. It was lovely not having to pack a bag to go to the pool etc. walk right out your balcony and into the pool! Staff were attentive and pleasant. I was somewhat disappointed with the "upcharge" for l [... read more]obster/shrimp. At every other resort I have been to, including in Cuba, these were items included in your cost. For the price that was paid for this trip, it would have been a plus to have this included.

Ocean Coral Riviera Cancun: Some good, some bad

Quick trip from airport to resort (less than 30 minutes). However, location of resort was not in place where you could walk into Puerto Morelos. It was over 3 km on busy, narrow road to walk out to main highway to get public transportation. Pubic areas - well maintained, lots of seating Beach - not swimmable due to the large of seaweed. Room - large and clean, but regularly no hot water and lack of water pressure. Pool - little space around the pool (narrow brick area), so the chairs [... read more] are pushed up against each other and cannot be moved. There are very little places to get any shade at the pool and the few umbrellas are not effective. Had to go out at 6 am to get chairs. Activities - very few activities at the resort. The standing activities did not always occur or the stated planned location. Restaurants - food was very good in all restaurants, with the exception of Route 66, which was terrible. Walk up to the specialty restaurants without reservations was great, only a few minutes to get a table.
