Hotel Playa Coco: decent resort.

Sun was hot. Beach was amazing, could walk for hours! Very hard to get bottled water, toilets had a hard time flushing. Only complaint. There's 24 hr drinks, beautiful piano bar. Decent little gym. Food available 24/7

Iberostar Origin Daiquiri: Great Company, Average Hotel

We went to the Iberostar Daiquiri over New Years. We were with a large party therefore we were bound to have fun no matter what. When we arrived the rooms were not ready so we had to wait 3 hours. Once we got the keys to our rooms they were not cleaned, and resembled a hostel environment. This was not going to be suitable for a week. Therefore we decided to upgrade - we spent an additonal $200 Cubanas to upgrade to a renovated villa. The renovated room was fine - it was clean. However our sheets [... read more] and towels were not being changed on a daily basis, we would go days using the same bath towels. We also knew our sheets were not being changed because there was sand in the bed - constantly. The beach towels were another issue. The pool hut was always out of towels. We were only able to exchange our towels for fresh ones once in the entire week - and you can imagine how dirty and smelly a four day old beach towel is. The food was fine. I have always heard horror stories about Cuba and the quality of the food. We mainly stuck to the buffet. We tried the Mexican and Italian restaurant on the premise and they were awful. The buffet was descent it was fresh and a good variety. The staff was very nice - they were helpful and cheerful.

Hotel Playa Paraiso: Quit whining! Best beach and sun incredible value

This was my 2nd trip to Cuba and I enjoyed it thoroughly. I came back relaxed and rejuvenated. I've seen a lot of negative reviews, and I want to say quit your whining. Was everything perfect? No. Was there top shelf amenities? No. This is Cuba. Imports are expensive and everything is a little different. If you want a hamburger, expect ham on it. If you want a vacation where nothing is different, stay at home for 3 times as much and temperatures 50 degrees colder. Out of the 11 hotels in Cayo Co [... read more]co, they're all rated within close to half a point of one another. Why pay more for a resort with a rocky beach? The beach at Pestana was the best! Soft white sand, gentle surf. Guests from other resorts kept trying to crash it. The food was always tasty and flavourfull. There were enough choices on the main buffet that you did not have to eat the same thing every night. For those that complained there wasn't enough variety, I say TRY NOT PIGGING OUT AND EATING EVERY FREAKING DISH OFFERED! Or go to the BBQ buffet. Or the Cuban restaruant. Or the Italian one. Or the 24 hour snack bars. Just stop whining. The resort itself was clean and tidy. I had no complaints. The walls are thin, so if you're beside noisy guests, ask to move. There is less to do in Cayo Coco in general. People select this destination to relax so there's not much going on in the resorts during the day. If you want action, go to Veradero. I love Cuba and the Cuban people. I can't wait to go back. Pestana was not just fine, it was a steal for the price!

Tryp Cayo Coco: The Tryp Cayo Coco is a Great Resort

On arrival we learnt that the hotel was very old, the oldest in the area, but we found it reasonably comfortable. The bathrooms however need to be upgraded. Our rooms faced the quieter smaller swimming pool and from the balcony we could get a partial view of the ocean. The weather was great, mosquitoes however bothered us early mornings and late evenings. My children and grandchildren enjoyed themselves. They went scuba diving, snorkeling and took the Catamaran to the coral reef. They also parti [... read more]cipated in the various dances on the Stage. The food at the buffet was good. For breakfast we enjoyed fresh fruits, omelettes and crepes. For lunch and dinner we enjoyed the fresh seafood and didn't mind the long line ups at the grill. The waiters were terrific and because we were a group of eight they would always reserve a table for us. There were three restaurants that required pre booking. The International, the Chinese and the Italian. There was also a Café which was open all the time and served good sandwiches. It was located quite near the entertainment area. They had evening shows every day which we attended. The kids shows pre-ceded the adult shows and the guests got involved in the shows . We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Tryp Cayo Coco and will definitely go back to this part of Cuba again. The good value for money, the great beaches and the warm hearted friendly people make this a fantastic vacation.

Hotel Mojito: Unfortunate surprise

We have been about 18 times to this resort. We were hopeful of the much reported renovations. We were very disappointed, nothing has changed other than some decorative painting. We had black mould throughout the three rooms we had. Our room safe was not attached to anything. Seriously understaffed. Poorly maintained. Resort is in poor condition. Food was good though. And band ., Tahiti was awesome

Memories Caribe Beach Resort: Mixed feelings

I am a little at odds about this resort. The grounds were very well maintained, the beach was amazing and ofcourse the rum was out of this world. As for the rest of it, i don't really have much good to say. I like everyone else understand you don't go to Cuba for the food and i understand this now both times i have been to Cuba. However at this resort the food was horrible. The buffet offer very little that was even palatable and what you could actually eat didn't change all week. Also i underst [... read more]and it is a country where English is not the first language of the stagg that work the resort, however, there were many times during my vacation where there was a complete language barrier because the stagg working did not understand any English. Just my opinion that if you are a tourist resort the staff should be able to have even a basic conversation with the vacationers. This week was also very busy and i do understand that things will be a little bit diminished because of this. At the same time i feel that a tourist resort should be prepared for this and this resort was not even close to ready for the level of guests that they had. Running our of beach towels, running out of food, running out of ice etc... These things will not completely ruin a vacation, but it will do like it did for me, sick enough in my head that i have this review. I still had a good time, but it was because of my company, not because of the resort.

Memories Flamenco Beach Resort: Great resort overall, so-so beach

The only three things that bothered me and my group of 5 friends were: 1) The beach at this particular resort is pretty bad, very narrow and full of rocks. There are signs that they're trying to get rid of it though. However, if you walk a bit east, the beach become MUCH better very fast. 2) The table service at the evening buffet is by no means fast and appears disorganized. On numerous occasions we ordered drinks and they either never came or the order was different or incomplete. No problem [... read more]s with the breakfast buffet though -- actually it's pretty fast. 3) The club house (where the pool table is) should get new equipment asap. The pool table was unplayable (missing balls, missing triangle, crooked, etc.). Other than that, everything was top notch. The resort was clean, bar service was good and fast, no problems with the rooms, the food was good (including the a la carte restos), the pool(s) is the best I've seen in Cuba. Overall, pretty good value for money.

Iberostar Origin Daiquiri: fantastic

It was the most incredible trip ever returning in may.food was awesome ppl were amazing beach were the best I have ever been too. Room were so clean. Met so many incredible people will be back in may with my kids.

Memories Flamenco Beach Resort: Average at best but weather saved the trip!

My family and I did a 1 week stay from Dec 19 to 26. To sum it up: - Weather was perfect - 27/28 each day, no rain - Pool was very nice. Lots of room and chairs were never a problem to get. WARNING: Take a large cup or mug with you if you plan to have a drink by the pool. Otherwise, you will be drinking from small, flimsy plastic cups (2 gulps)..... - Staff - excellent. Very nice, accommodating, always willing to help and took the time to chat with you. - Resort in general. Having stayed at 4.5  [... read more]star resorts on other islands, I think I was expecting more. I'd say the resort is in decent shape though you can see where some upkeep is needed. The MOSQUITOES were horrible, especially from about 5 pm and well into the evening. Take bug spray! - Rooms: The resort has 10 buildings. These are spread out throughout the resort. The week we were there it was apparently sold out and we ended up in building 10 - the furthest from the main building and buffet. For the average person, this would have been a 5 minute hike. Ushering 2 children (2 and 6 years of age) back and forth from the building was a challenge. Further, we were on the 3rd floor - all steps - no elevators. Secondly, we had a number of issues with our room. No water for 1.5 days (there was flooding between a few of the buildings so evidently there was a problem somewhere - septic or main), the front sliding glass door did not lock, the one phone did not work, and we regularly had to ask for towels. In other words, our room sufficed our needs for the week but that was it. - Food: We were warned to not have high expectations for the food. Aside from the Xmas dinner buffet and maybe a couple of other meals, I'd say the food was average at best. My sons lived on hot dogs, french fries, ice cream and pizza for the week but my wife and I were able to find something that worked. - Beach - skip it and head to Pilar Beach - 15 minute cab ride - It is excellent! Take your towels and lots of water and snacks! - Lobby bar - good. - Front desk staff - very nice and tried to do what they could to make your stay comfortable. - Shows - decent. My sons loved the Michael Jackson show! - Kids club - good as well In summary - I give it 3 stars thanks to the weather, Pilar Beach and the staff.

Iberostar Origin Daiquiri: Average resort but horrible bugs

We went in Dec 16-23, 2014. The resort was average. Pool was just OK, room was out dated. Food was not very good. But staff were friendly. The ocean was green but blue. I got at least 40 bites, from mosquitos, sand mites, and maybe bed bugs. I saw some people in the resort have lots of bites, too. So I will not return because of this.

AMAZING RESORT AND STUFF, VERY HELPFUL CUSTOMER SERVICE, NICE PEOPLE.I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS RESORT TO EVERYONE IN CANADA AND OVERSEAS. If you never been in Cuba at this resort, go only at this place. I cannot wait to go there again and enjoy beach and resort and show and really awesome atmosphere.

Iberostar Origin Daiquiri: Great Resort

My husband, adult son and I have just returned from a weeks stay at the Iberostar Daiquiri from Dec. 21-28, 2014. The room we received was in the Baracoa unit and this was ideal as my son is an avid kite boarder. He had direct access to the path that lead to the beach area specifically for kite boarders. Definitely ask for this unit if you intend to kite board. The winds were pretty good so he was out on most days. This resort suited us just fine as it is smaller than Memories in Varadero. We we [... read more]re at Memories in December 2013. The room, beach, pool and eating were all within a comfortable walking distance. I also appreciated the little shops where you can buy some souvenirs to take back. The food was average and you had the choice of three restaurants; Cuban, Mexican and Italian. Reservations must be made ahead of time for these restaurants. There was a shortage of beach towels for 3 days so we didn't have any. We were also short of towels for one day in our hotel room. This was soon rectified however it is a reoccurring problem. Do take your own beach towel with you.Mosquitoes are quite fierce at night so do take insect repellent also. I used Deet 17% and the mosquitoes were still biting me so do take a higher per cent. The evening entertainment was limited although we did enjoy the first evening's performance of international dances. Water sports are included in the all inclusive price. We went paddle boating and on the Catamaran. Staff are all very polite and helpful. Dec. 22 was my birthday and a lovely bottle of sparkling wine was placed in our room. One area of contention was that the pool area was constantly blasting music from two loud speakers so there was really no peaceful place to go and just read a book or snooze. I would have appreciated a time when there was quiet or very gentle music playing. Blasting music does not mean that everyone enjoys it. I certainly didn't. My son will definitely go back as he loved the kite boarding. If I ever go back I will definitely take stronger insect repellent as this was the only part of the trip that made me uncomfortable. For the price I considered this a really good deal.

Tryp Cayo Coco: Clean and adequate

My first time to Cuba and was satisfied with the trip as far as pricing went. The hotel was not over the top for me, the bathrooms in the rooms need updating but otherwise clean. The staff were absolutely fantastic, friendly and accommodating!

Starfish Cayo Guillermo: Resort had many issues

We traveled here with 4 other couples between Christmas an New Years 2014. Many issues with the resort. 1. No running water for hours at a time. This has a direct impact to showers and toilets. We were told the water issue was affecting other resorts on the area as well. Restaurants couldn't open on time due to no water. 2. Clean beach towels only available every 4 days. We got beach towels the day we arrived, then after that a 4 day wait. Some people were there for days before they got a towel. [... read more] BTW - the resort will charge you $20 for a lost towel. Once again we were told this issue was not isolated to our resort. 3. Bugs more specifically sand fleas. Came home with over 200 bug bites. Not sure why we didn't pack bug spray. I realize the items above are out of the control of the resort. Here is a list of items the resort can and should correct: 1. Always running out of plates in the buffet restaurant. Plus layout needs tweaking, always waiting for food. BTW - don't even bother with the Cuban a la carte restaurant, it was terrible. The Italian a la carte was good. 2. Air conditioners, phones, fridges and showers do not work in all rooms. You would be lucky if you got something fixed. 3. Be careful not to lock yourself out on the balcony. It happened to us more than once. 4. Furniture in need of repair, missing handles, etc. Our friends bed was actually missing a leg. Overall the food was good, beach was nice (very shallow), and the people were friendly. Definitely a two star resort based on so many things broken or not working. The only reason I didn't give it one star is because the food was good.

We had an amazing time at the Memories resort! Great food great service. Only down side was the Internet. Horrible wifi and it's not worth the one hour pass. howrver, if we had any problems with the rooms or anything like that, we had great service. Definitely going back!

Sol Cayo Coco: Paradise!

Stayed at the Sol Cayo Coco from Dec 30-Jan 6 2015 and it was lovely. Smaller resort with a whole lot of love. The staff go out of their way to ensure you have a wonderful vacation and made our visit much more pleasant. The resort and rooms are alittle dated but they are kept clean and the grounds are impecable. We enjoyed the beach that was on the opposite side of the resort accessed by a bridge near the lower pool we spent many days there lounging in the sun and when the tide is out this turns [... read more] into shallow pools you can pull your sunloungers in. A tip for visitors walk down this beach pass the Iberostar resort to find a lobster/shrimp shack its 12cuc for lunch and 1cuc for a Cristol beer make sure to go to the bathroom as their facilities are not modern but worth the walk and the view is stunning. Would go back in a heart beat!

Memories Flamenco Beach Resort: Great Resort

The people, the service and the food was absolutely great. Wonderful choice. I totally enjoyed it. The distance from the resort to the airport was about 20 mins. Less travel time to and from your destination.

Iberostar Origin Daiquiri: Amazing stay

We stayed in this hotel from dec19-26/2014 and have to say it exceeded our expectations, we visited Cuba in the past but this was whole another experience, good weather, good food (and lots of it), nice drinks and most of all beautiful and friendly staff everywhere we went. The rooms might use a little reno but they still function, however part of the resort just reopened the day before we left after renovations and it seem to look very nice and fresh. We would recommend this resort to anyone.

Memories Caribe Beach Resort: It is OK

Food was ok - I wish there was more seafood. The meat in Cuba is bad anywhere. The beach was amazing - nothing to complain about. Service was bad - waiters refused to serve us more than 4 bottles of wine (we were a company of 15 people)

Hotel Playa Paraiso: Good resort

Good layout, small resort so very easy to navigate. Amazing beach! Friendly staff and new amenities. So everything is clean and not run down. Food however is very poor, even for Cuba. No selection at the buffet, although the beach grill had amazing fish which we all opted for every lunch time.
