Planet Hollywood Adult Scene Cancun by Royalton: Planet Follywood
I will start by saying that you should be wary of a resort whose guest services desk has a stack of Spa coupons and a stack of social medial disclosure waiver forms sitting on it. I rated the resort 3 stars on their app while I was staying there and was immediately bombarded with emails from guest services to meet with them to discuss my concerns. I finally did and was made some pretty incredible promises with the caveat that is sign a form indicating that if I accepted their offer I could not p[... read more]ost a review on social media. Also beware of any promises made. What I was promised, and what what was actually on the form was completely different and certainly not worth it, in exchange for hopefully helping the next traveler by writing this review.
There was some good in the resort. The specialty restaurant food was very good for the most part (if you could get a reservation). But the list of negatives far outweighed any positives. These are my notes from the week.
Gym.
Many days there are no paper towels to clean the machines. Spray bottles that don’t work. No remote for the TVs. Staff didn’t even know there was a rowing machine. Music from whatever activities are going on in what I called the green room so loud that I cannot hear my own music when I’m on the elliptical or the bike in another room. When I asked if they could turn the music down, I was told they would be done in a couple of minutes. My point was, most people have their own music or podcast and don’t need to listen to the music blaring from another room when they’re exercising. Cleaning staff just moving dirt from one place to another. It’s almost farcical to watch them swab the floors with an old rag, and a squeegee. I sweat a lot, and when I wipe the floor after I am done with my machine, the paper towels are filthy, even after they have just been cleaned by the cleaning staff. And to top it all off, they spray some kind of spray on the ground. It almost makes you gag when you’re working out. And another annoying thing was, these ladies are trying to clean machines while people are actually working out on them. I’ve never seen that before in my life. Imagine running on a treadmill when some lady is trying to wipe it down while you’re running on it. Crazy. Sweeping dust off the treadmills with the broom, while people are running. All that dust is going into the air. You can see it in the sunlight. The same as sweeping the floors. All that dust into the air. And if you are really bored you can watch the bugs crawling on the floor
Room.
Takes forever for hot water in the shower. Without exaggeration, it could take five minutes for the water to heat up. Quality of workmanship, everywhere, not just in the room, is somewhat equivalent to an old Cuban resort. Cracks everywhere, paint, peeling, paint, smears, caulking, missing, etc. Cigarette butts in the drain on the deck. No ties for the bathrobes. Can’t get more than two beer in your minibar. On off switches for the electrical system and lights are bizarre. Smoking is not allowed on the decks, but the people beside us were certainly avid smokers. As I speak, I smell cigarettes smoke. When we reported the people they were verbally abusive. They even were using the F word. House cleaning is below average at best. They leave dirty glasses and beer cans on your counters. The occasionally wash the counters, but not every day. Some days they’re dirty from spills and are just left that way. One day we came back to our room and there was broken glass all over the floor in the bathroom. We generally leave a tip every day and expect at least a good average cleaning. Most nicer resorts we’ve been to do a little towel display or something on the bed. Nothing like that here. Oh, and you can’t flush the toilet at night because it sounds like a rifle going off. I’m sure it’s waking up not only our room but the next room below us for sure. Single play toilet paper was a surprise for a five star
Outside
Cobblestone/brick style walkways everywhere. Every day and evening people are pushing carts, the rattling noises from the wheels, the glasses, they’re carrying, etc., is so loud it is unbearable. Have to keep our deck door closed at night so that we limit the noise. Cleanliness of the grounds are debatable. Many times we see garbage, broken dishes, food, etc. laying around. I’ve seen the same pieces of garbage laying on the ground every day for the past week I’m sure 1000 staff members a day take that route and they can’t pick up some small pieces of garbage? Signage could be better for sure.
Pool and beach
Seat. Saving is obviously a big issue. As the week progressed, it got worse. My wife went to the beach this morning around 10:30, there wasn’t a chair anywhere in the adult scene section or anywhere else for that matter. There was nobody out there, but every chair had a towel on it. That’s not right. We pay a lot of money to be able to sit at the beach. The pool water is ice cold. Not comfortable for me at any temperature.
Restaurants
Usual complaints. Telling you there’s no room and you look inside and there’s empty tables everywhere. The buffet is a freaking madhouse most of the time. Its more like a scrum. It needs to be twice the size to accommodate the amount of people. Very unimpressed with the buffet food options. They say you can make reservations at certain restaurants online. Every time we’ve tried it tells us reservations are unavailable for an entire week in advance. Not too helpful if you’re only staying a week. No pizza oven in the Italian restaurant? They had to bring pizza in from another restaurant and it was an hour wait. No beer at all at the Braza restaurant one night. Braza restaurant hit and miss. First time we went there. The food was fantastic. Service was great. Second time we went there. Food was horrible and so was the service. Meat was dry. Salty. Guys burger joint. We’ve been sitting here for 20 minutes and we still do not have anything to drink. They took our order almost immediately for food and we do not have that yet as well. Seriously understaffed obviously.
Bars
Almost every day there’s no regular beer in the morning. Amber beer only. Some bards had no beer at all. Most evenings the outside bar doesn’t have beer on tap. They give you cans of beer that are lukewarm. Some bar staff are so slow it’s hard to comprehend. Others are quite rude.
Steak restaurant
Waited 20 minutes for a beer, finally went outside to the bar, got a beer came back, and my beer still wasn’t here and I don’t see it forthcoming.
Theatre
Seats that are supposed to recline aren’t working. Maybe a half dozen of the 24 recliners actually work. Popcorn is hit and miss. some days there is popcorn some days not. Staff operating the projector could probably use some technical assistance. Many times they would start the wrong movie and let it run for quite some time before realizing the mistake.
Sports bar
The pool table definitely needs to be recovered. There’s no felt left on the felt. It’s like playing pool, on a cotton sheet. That is not stretched properly. Pool cues are all warped. Some don’t even have tips on them.
Overall, I would suggest that here a far superior resort to this one for the same price. The only reason this resort has a 5 star rating is that they attempt buy off anyone who would rate it lower.

Krystal Cancun: Worth the read if you’re planning on staying here
It’s tough writing this review because the ground of the hotel were stunning and the beachfront was the best I’ve experienced in Mexico! Sadly, there are a lot of negatives to my review which others should be aware of as I wish I was.
To start, we booked an all-inclusive oceanfront room for 1 week. When we arrived into our room at 1am after our delayed flight, we were very disappointed by the quality of our room, the obstructed ocean view due to a palm tree close to our balcony, and the very [... read more]loud noise coming from the club next door which also had our room vibrating. Night 1 we got zero sleep. The next day we requested to switch rooms to another building and were told to come back the next morning. We figured we would catch up on sleep during the afternoon, but when we tried, a beach party at a club started and was even louder than the night. Going into day 2 we were exhausted from a lack of sleep. Finally we were given a new room in building 1 (the building furthest on the right when looking at the resort from the beach). This room was incredible and we couldn’t have been happier with it.
Now onto food and entertainment. Again, we had all inclusive, yet we ended up spending a lot of money on food and entertainment outside the resort. Night 1 we arrived late and expected to utilize the late night snack options which were extremely limited to a couple of pre-made sandwiches. The next morning we hit the buffet and were shocked at how small it was. It was probably 1/3 of the size of any other buffet I’ve experienced. The options for breakfast were very limited and sometimes very random and not meant for breakfast. They consistently had pancake, waffles, French toast, eggs, and fruit but they never had bacon which was strange and they had cut up hot dogs which they referred to as sausages. Sometimes they had random things in the eggs like mushrooms and peas. They would also have pork chops, broccoli and carrots, and roast potatoes at breakfast which I’m thinking were leftover from dinner the night before that they were trying to use up.
Lunch was the only meal I looked forward to but make sure you go to the poolside buffet for this as the main one was constantly disappointing. The poolside buffet consistently had fries, pasta, pizza, chicken fingers, nachos, fish strips, and fruit. I survived off of this most days.
Dinners were strange. In the small buffet, they had theme nights which isn’t a good idea. Two of the nights during our week stay they had seafood nights. During these nights neither one of us ate as I don’t eat any seafood and there were no other options like pasta, potato’s or fries that I could have had. I never understood why they didn’t have things like pasta, fries, and chicken as daily items.
There was no entertainment unless you consider them hooking up a karaoke machine in the lobby as entertainment. Also no poolside entertainment unless you consider an hour a day of them blasting music and doing a bit of Zumba or three rounds of bingo. Expect to go into town on the main strip if you want entertainment.
All in all, while the grounds were beautiful as well as room change (make sure you get building 1!), and the staff were friendly, I would not stay here again because of everything listed above which is really disappointing.

Majestic Elegance Costa Mujeres: Second visit as good as the first!
Enough has been said previously about the beautiful sandy beach, gorgeous grounds and walkways, and the clean and well maintained rooms, so let’s focus on the best part of the stay at the Majestic: the staff!
Starting with our extremely late arrival at 1:30 am, we were met with the pleasant, smiling night clerk, Angel, who not only quickly had us checked in and ready to go, but also ensured that we connected with our travel friends (who had arrived a day earlier) and facilitated adjoining r[... read more]ooms. Thank you Angel.
My spouse has a serious fish allergy, so food products are always a concern for us when travelling. The Majestic takes food allergies as serious as we do. On the first morning of our arrival, the restaurant concierge, Joy, met with my spouse to discuss the food in the broad range of restaurants and to identify risks. This care continued throughout our 2 week stay, with Joy addressing concerns about the labelling of snacks in the club lounges, and chef Sebastian checking in with my spouse at the various restaurants we attended. What a pleasure to be able to relax, knowing that allergy concerns are taken seriously at the Majestic. Thank you Joy and Sebastian.
And then there’s the restaurant and poolside staff, starting with Julian’s smiling and friendly breakfast service every morning at Flavors – especially his ‘special’ coffees! Thank you Julian. And poolside was made to feel like a second home with Andres’ happy smiles and jokes and genuine friendly demeanor. Thank you Andres! And thank you also to Andres’ poolside ‘brother’, Angel. The two are a fixture in our memories of our 2 week stay.
And finally, what can we say about our butler, Gloria, other than “wow, what a great face to the Majestic Resort”! Gloria was always available to assist us with any questions or concerns with a pleasant, caring, and quick response. We can’t say enough about Gloria, but can say thank you so much Gloria, and good luck with the wedding!
Can't wait for our third visit.

Park Royal Cancun: Not Enjoyable
We had no A/C. Came into the room at 26*C and called front deck to assist in the issue. Was told Maintenance would show on several occasions and never did. Being and HVAC operator I tried to see if I could resolve the issue and discovered the wires were cut to the valve and was just running in manual mode (T-Stat did nothing just controlled fan speed) and the valve handles were removed so no adjustments could be made without tools. The amount of Black Mould in ceiling area was disgusting. The Ba[... read more]rtenders would serve (Locals or people that could speak Spanish) as priority even when they see you have been standing waiting.
Also, I left a personal belonging on the Bar and no effort was made to ask around to see if this was placed somewhere or may have seen it. I've stayed at resorts in past that have put effort in and been successful in recovering items I've misplaced. Then when asking when checking out at 4am if maybe they could check lost and found one last time, they said no even though the room was just behind the front desk.
This is without a question the Worst resort I've ever stayed at and not sure if I can trust Tripcentral star ratings going forward. There is even more issues but I'm not typing a novel as this is enough to show my point.

Royalton CHIC Cancun: Great resort!
This resort was amazing! The rooms and building itself were very nice and clean. The entertainment was fun and the food was amazing. The best part of the resort had to be the gorgeous beach. Also the location was great, close to convenience stores and other restaurant and bars/clubs only a 5 minute walk away. The airport is also only a 15 minute drive. The staff was very friendly and they go out of their way to help you.

Royalton CHIC Cancun: Great resort!
The resort is close to the airport, exceptionally clean and the service is amazing. The beach is beautiful with lots of chairs and shade if you want it. The servers at the beach are awesome. It is nice not having to go to the bar. A lifeguard is on duty and keeps a close eye on the swimmers. The grounds are well kept. The pool is great. The servers are attentive and like the beach it is really nice not having to go to the bar for drinks. However, it is a party atmosphere. The music starts around[... read more] 10am and continues all day. It is fairly loud. If you are looking for a quiet resort this is not it. My girlfriends and I didn't mind and enjoyed the music. The grill at the pool has delicious chicken, sausages, salads, rice and potatoes. The potatoes are so good!
The games and the activities around the pool in the afternoon are fun and very entertaining. The entertainment staff are amazing. The foam party is a lot of fun.
The rooms are large and clean with a balcony which is nice. Includes a mini-fridge. The shower is large with a rainfall showerhead which is a nice touch.
There are a number of restaurants to choose from. The buffet is great for breakfast and lunch. Lots of selection and the quality is very good.
The oriental restaurant is amazing. Everyone enjoyed their meal. The steak house was good as well. The Italian restaurant wasn't great. No one liked their pasta dishes, but the salad bar and bread were good. The grill by the pool was delicious and the take-out pizza was good as well. The coffee shop was great for snacks and the coffee was amazing. The elevators are slow during busy times. I would definitely go back. Great vacation with my girlfriends!

Park Royal Cancun: Some good. Some bad.
Let's start with the good...location was ideal, across the street from La Isla mall. Also very close to the airport so a quick transfer shuttle. The beach is wonderful, lots of sand, and the waves and view from the resort was amazing. It's also a smaller resort so easy to get around. The family suite was also a great size and having two washrooms was very smart. Now onto the bad...the food at the buffet is nothing special. Quite bland and not alot of options for a family resort that should have [... read more]more kid friendly options. Waiting in long lines every morning to book at the ala carte restaurants also is less than ideal. One morning we waited over an hour only to be told they were all booked up. The nightly entertainment is limited and not very good as it happens in the lobby of the main hotel building. We travelled with a group, 4 rooms total and the AC didn't work in 2 of the 4 rooms. Also not very good, how small the pools are, both the adult only and the family pool. Minimal loungers at both, plus the beach.

Catalonia Grand Costa Mujeres: Fairly good
The food could have been better, especially the Mexican. Also the beach furniture could be upgraded to more beds and loungers with shade and someone watching to make sure only privileged people are actually in the privileged section. We saw people with blue bracelets. My wife and I shared a beach lounger because there were blue bracelet people taking up some chairs. Also not a fan when I pay for an upgrade and then there’s another that consists of a membership.

Hard Rock Hotel Cancun: Great place to be
The property was immaculate and staff very friendly and helpful. We did find our checkout was not as good as the rest of our time. Out of our room at noon then at 3 pm stripped of our use of previous complimentary items such as food and drink or even to sit by pool! Our transport time was 5:40 so we had to spend a couple of hours in the lobby. This was not a nice ending to what had been a very enjoyable trip.
I would still recommend this resort to friends and family but would love to hear t[... read more]hat the checkout has been improved.

Riu Dunamar: Average
Overall the hotel was okay , the beach and grounds and rooms were amazing. I found the food at the La carte were not good at all. The buffet was okay, I found it very bland. I am very disappointed with the Sunwing Reps Joshua and Jose. We had an issue with excursion and they made promises and never followed through, we won’t book with Sunwing anymore. I also believe they should have bilingual employees at resort, no one understood what was being said. I would rate this more of a 3 star resort.

Sunscape Cancun Resort and Spa: Good Resort
The resort was good, staff was friendly and helpful. Rooms were clean. Enjoyed most meals, however, do not recommend the New York Steak in any of the restaurants. Entertainment was good. Area was safe and had good police presence.
