July 1 – 8, 2022 Travel Period : July 1 – 8, 2022, very hot Low season \ off travel season, less then 50 rooms booked. Buffet Restaurant: Day before departure received email that the Buffet Restaurant dining inside was closed due to low season. Mini Buffet service to be offered at the Snack Bar for Breakfast and Lunch. Snack Bar: Serves finger food order from menu, excellent burgers, terrible fries. Open tier walk up. Large room, no problem with finding a table. Buffet Resta [... read more]urant: Due to low season the Buffet Restaurant Dining Facility inside was closed and a mini Buffett service was provided at the snack bar daily for breakfast and lunch. Breakfast was fine still cool in the morning but lunch was to hot and I did not like this. Daily Buffet consisted of 3 meat products, pork, chicken, beef, changed one day to shrimp. I eat a lot of salad, green leaves: No lettuce, plenty of peppers, cucumbers etc, just no green leaf lettuce. Also no tomato. Plenty of fruit..excellent. Plenty of sweet desert trays and ice-cream. Excellent Service at the Snack Bar during Breakfast \ Lunch. During lunch there are to many flies on the buffet food and this was a turn off for me. a la carte Menu Restaurant, Dinner was provided in a La carte menu restaurant the menu changed daily. I like this because it was air conditioned and inside, the quality of the food was poor and often cold. Service was excellent. Room: Excellent, AC worked, washroom no problem, no power problem, shower had plenty of pressure. There is a mini fridge inside the room, only on the first day there was 1 can of beer, rest of week no beer and was not re-stocked and no pop. Water was provided in large 2L bottles. Ground Facility: Excellent no problem, clean, on going maintenance by staff. During booking I requested top floor of bungalow and king size bed, sadly disappointed upon arrival I got neither and had to wait until another room was ready few hours later. During booking I fail to understand why make request if they cannot be fulfilled, like above, seems request at best. Pools: 3 Cascade pools, excellent in size, due to low season not many people in pool. Due to the heat the water in the pool was like tap water…very warm excellent. We spent all day inside the pool. Lobby: clean, fun, no problem, excellent bar service with nightly entertainment. Beach: Good, plenty of umbrellas due to low season. Beach grounds need to be kept clean daily as plenty of plastic cups are left by tourists, seaweed washed up, need to do a better job here.

Dhawa Cayo Santa Maria: Good resort for money paid, amazing beach and pool

We liked the beach and beach activities, also the beach bar : Armando is excellent and speaks fluent English. Julio at catamarans is very good too. Pool area is big and beautiful. However, the beach is so perfect, we never went to the pool :) The rooms are spacious and mosquito net is very well protecting. The ocean view is amazing from 3 floor, 5 building. The food is ok. Could be boring for gourmands, but we were ok. Beautiful garden. Less entertaining than we expected, pity.

Melia Costa Rey: The Pullman is the best in Cayo Coco

First off, if you think the food in Cuba sucks, please stay home and continue to eat at Mcdonnald's & Swiss Chalet. However if you want FRESH from the Ocean seafood, and chicken that is not jacked up on hormones and steroids, produce that is local and fresh as fresh can be, prepared with love and passion, then Cuba food is what your body craves. Third, the rooms, impeccably clean and very comfortable, great AC, Bar fridge (which the stock every day with Beer, Water and Soda), room safe, ironing board and iron, hair dryer, LCD large screen TV, Wifi, spacious, 3 showers and a tub, quality linens, ample hot water, Maid service is fantastic! 4th, The Bar, premium liquor and lots of it. Morning coffee is amazing, try the Frappacino! 5th, The Beach, STELLAR! 6th, The resort, clean, spacious, entertainment all day and night, swim up bar, clean pools, a la cart restaurants, great flora, large theatre, tennis courts, billiards and Ping pong too. You will not get more bang for your buck and enjoy the safest, friendliest place on earth!

Carisol los Corales: Cuba : post covid

I am a frequent traveler to cuba, I have been all over The country, and I have been to corales about 10 times. Because of covid I haven't been in almost 3 years. When I booked it said it wasn't all inclusive and only 3 meals are included. This almost made us book another hotel, but because we were going to visit friends we decided to do it anyway. Your drinks are included and you have no limit. What is not available is the 24 hour snack bar..there are no snacks at all.(this is only during off  [... read more]season goes back to normal in Jan) The food is no longer buffet style. They serve you at your table, a four course meal. For money exchange , there is no longer CUC. You can change your money at bank for 18 pesos for one Canadian dollar. I do not recommend this. The man at snack bar outside holguin airport will give you up to 80 pesos per Canadian dollar. And the guys at the beach by corales will give you about 70 pesos per canadian dollar. It helps you and it helps them.You can no longer buy anything in the store without a card no cash is accepted. A visa debit card works great :) The whole world was affected by covid, but Cuba and this area were especially affected. If you have friends there you should check on them Everyone is asking for sandles or clothes. Which is normal for this area but the need is even more noticable now. Alot of people were walking around completely barefoot because they have no shoes. I brought seeds and nobody said anything at the airport, my friend says the laws have changed you are now allowed to bring food and medicine. They have no Tylenol or pain meds , antibiotics are impossible to find. The amazing service and people are the same , always willing to go above and beyond with a smile on their faces.

When you lower your standards Cuba has everything to offer, with such a precarious situation in the country, Iberostar and its fabulous personnel outstandingly went above and beyond to my expectations

Melia Las Dunas: Amazing resort

Everything was great, the rooms, the beach. The staff is very nice and friendly. The beach is amazing indeed. It wasn't crowded as they are still operating under capacity since Covid and there was lots of space. Everyone is friendly and helpful. Yes, they like tips (who doesn't). But, they don't need tips to be friendly and appreciative.

Playa Vista Azul: Restaurants are dissapointing

The Hotel is OK, but the food is the same again and again for the whole week or the entire vacation. They have 5 a la carte restaurants, 3 already close (maybe bec cost cutting bec of the pandemic)so there are only 2 left the italian and intl food restaurants. they dont accept reservation, so, you have to wait for a long line up, (So hassle and dissapointing). Grand Memories Varadero: Extremely Dissapointing

1. The room bed linen was never changed in the 7 days that we were there. We had to ask for towels, and were given clean bath towels only once. The bed sheets and pillows smelled like body odor from previous guests from the day we checked in, and were never changed in the 7 days that we were there. 2. We did not receive clean beach towels, and the pool side towel place was always closed. We receive a clean beach towel on the last day. 3. We had to ask for more toilet paper, and were given [... read more] some 2 days later. 4. We found 4 cockroaches in the bathroom on different days. 5. The safe in the room we were given was not working. 6. Upon check in and asking for rooms in Sanctuary, we were told there were none available. We found out on the last day that Sanctuary was in fact open and available. 7. The beach snack bar service was very poor. My boyfriend did not even receive his order of food. We were waiting for over an hour and we had to leave without it. 8. The beach bar ran out of beer, and was not replenished until the next day. 9. The food at the buffet was either cold or ran out and not replenished. 10. We attempted to go to the pool, but found the water murky and pool mouldy. We were told that we would be in the adult only section, and were looking for a peacful and pleasant experience. But clearly we were not in the adult section. There were loud unruly kids occupying all areas. 11. The hygiene and cleanliness were at an extreme low, and the service at the beach snack bar were very obviously catered to the large number of locals staying at the hotel, and who were being served piles of food, where as the rest of us were being served after them although we arrived before them. And we were then being told they could not serve us certain things, never returned with some food orders. This was not acceptable. The only saving grace was the beach and the ocean. We will not be staying at this resort again, and do not recommend. What would make this right for us is a refund, or a credit to a different resort, to make up for the disappointing experience at Grand Memories, Varadero.

Playa Cayo Santa Maria: Amazing family resort !!

Family has great time at the resort. Kids were happy. 24 hour restaurant and food was excellent. We will come back again and enjoy the excellent services. Beach was well maintained and safe. Pool services were adequate.

Paradisus Los Cayos: Great stay! But needs improvement

Fantastic stay. We just came back from Paradisus Los Cayos!! Beautiful weather and gorgeous beach. Hotel was stunning our room was beautiful however we had an issue with the cleanliness of it. We had to get it cleaned again. Towels for the beach and pool could never change. Used the same dirty ones all week 😞! Towels for the shower where new every day. Food is not bad .. buffet was the same but sea food and pasta chefs are amazing and so kind.. just the beef and chicken ( one of them ) [... read more] young man was not happy to be there and would service more the locals. Lots of locals !!! Pools : kid pool fantastic Adult poor only one small one for 400 people ( yes please don’t go ) lots is people who don’t leave the pool for 4 hours 😖( milky waters). Amazing staff. But they do tend to ask to change their Canadian to Cuban pesos which is not worth it for us . Don’t change your money they are good with Canadian dollars and bills. We asked. I would definitely go back. Due to Covid they is lack but nothing major to ruin your vacation. They try their best to make you happy. Jesus on the beach is amazing. He’s the sweetest!!

Iberostar Coral Holguin: Fantastic Vacation

Very beautiful resort, exceptional staff, gorgeous rooms, hand sanitizer readily available everywhere. Food was good by Cuban standards, pools and Playa Pesquero beach was beautiful, grounds were immaculately manicured by gardeners.

Royalton Hicacos Resort and Spa: Royalton Resort was OK .. 7 out of 10

Restaurants need some help ,, food was the way most people have described Cuban Cuisine ,, not one restaurant i would recommend . but the staff was always pleasant . I previously , before covid stayed at the Santa Maria Royalton ,, which i really enjoyed

THE GOOD: Big nice rooms. good & nice room keepers cleaners. good tennis courts. I played with Giobani the Cuban Gym Guy, very kind and helpful. 3 swimming pools, (with very few shades from palms). The entertainment persons are very dedicated & nice, everyone, the ones on the pool, the night shows people, etc. The waitress and staff are awesome, nice & helpful even the garden keepers, (only one of the pool cleaners, look like he doesn't like his job). The Dominican chef is very good, but [... read more] sometimes the food wasn't good, because he doesn't have all the ingredients, (onions, garlic, species, spice hot peppers). So we ask him for "picante", and he ran to his place to invite us from his special Dominican hot sauce, and that save the food of the day! THE BAD: The beach in front of the hotel has no sand, it has reef rocks that you can not step on, nor get into the sea. The accessible beach is after the end of the hotel and the bar, with some chairs and shades far from the bar. Too many mosquitos, flies, crows, and seagulls trying to steal your food when in the big & nice open breakfast and lunch buffet. Some days poor flavor food. The supper at the night restaurants was good in general, but one day I chose onion soup, and they gave me one without onion(???) because they have no onion in the kitchen (???) weird eh? I hope these comments will be helpful. Thanks to the Cuban staff (and Dominican chef) that make my vacation a VERY HAPPY ONE!!! Special thanks to Giobany, (the tennis and gym guy). Adriana López, Grettel Martinez, Jennifer (pool bar), and the bar lady at the indoor sports bar. They were AMAZING!!

Blau Varadero: Personally was not impressed at all.

I love going to Cuba, I find the people really nice and well educated which makes it fun to interact. The staff did not disappoint on that aspect. I never expected much from the food but at the Blau, it was the worse I have ever eaten to the point that I would skip meals. Left overs were served repeatedly and the food had NO Flavour. The shows are not only sub standard but also badly promoted. We never knew what was going on. Playa Cayo Santa Maria: Unsafe and No Protocols

I love travelling and am usually used to backpacking. I'm not too picky... There is a lot of things to discuss here: 1. First day, someone stole my flip flops. Days 2 was the worse! While I was drinking with a group of people...there was a man who was obviously very drunk. The man, started to harass the guys and females. I had to DE-esculate the situation and prevented a fight. I went to the bartender 4-5 times with 20-30 min time span between each request for security. As I passed the bar to  [... read more]go the washroom, the bartender still fed the guy drinks, to which I responded "YOu shouldn't be feeding this guy anymore drinks." When I returned to socialize, the drunk man aggressively pushed me, then he threw a punch to my face and to my ribs. Good thing the guys held the drunk man back... which was when security came in and threw his arm around the drunken man as if comrades. NOTHING was done. The workers didn't ask if I was okay, there was no compensation, no consequences to the man, no upgrade in security. I felt completely unsafe...especially since i saw the man the next day at the bar. No police was involved, security lied and seemed to covering up for the man since he was a local. THE HOTEL MANAGER said they don't have protocol in order... or even one for capping off how much one should drink, along with no accountability to the security since it took soooo long. They don't want their guests to get upset if they cut them off from drinking was another excuse.The place is huge how do you have one security who doesn't even show genuine concern for their guests. I was rattled for three days.... three days of being called to recall the situation. My ribs hurt (no asked if I was physically or mentally okay)... good thing I avoided the face punch... if the male guests didn't step in, the man would of seriously injured me. This situation wasn't taken seriously. That same night, the security said the police was on the way... which it wasn't... he also said that he asked me if I wanted to file a police report. which he didn't. I got assaulted and nothing was done to really reassure me. I told him I don't want any other females going through my experience and what was to be done... response: we'll look into it. Walking to my room, is completely dark... there aren't any lights... knowing that the family was out there .... knowing what I look like.... stressed me out! 2. They allow people who get kicked out from other resorts for violence and using drugs to stay at this hotel. I know this cause a wife got kicked out from the other hotel due to her violent, abusive and drug taking husband. She first hand told me this and told everyone at the hotel as well. They brought their drama onto other vacationers. (all for money) They take them in... so let's really think about how much they really care about guests safety. 2. Rooms: majority of the times the keys don't work. My place was all the way by the beach. It took a lot of walks back and forth... total 10 keys. My legs had theeee workout. 3. Service: People who work there are friendly to groups of people who are locals or regular visitors. I got terrible service. Lots of attitude, I would have to walk to the servers for a beverage, no smiles or gratitude when tipped. Mind you there were the few 2-3 workers who were kind. 4. People who work there work 12 hour shifts... maybe that's why they aren't so happy. 4. Workers yell at each other loudly early in the mornings... you can't avoid waking up. 5. I work really hard and was trying to take a break and really enjoy myself. Instead it was seven days of extreme stress. The beach was the best thing that was there... you can find that anyway. The water healed and lifted my spirit AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COST, IT AINT WORTH IT

Iberostar Coral Esmeralda: Unsanitary food preparation, violent illness & no water

This is a small, new hotel facility on the island of Cayo Cruz, located a 60-minute bus ride from Cayo Coco airport. Our one week stay was marred by unsanitary food preparation, unplanned water shortages and 4 days of violent illness (vomiting and diarrhea). On the second day we were having hamburgers at the snack bar and my wife bit into her burger to find an insect in the middle of her burger and the insect was alive and still moving around. Very unpleasant. On the third day we went to  [... read more]dinner at the Caribbean/Cuban a la carte restaurant and subsequently my wife and I fell ill with a stomach bug and had vomiting and diarrhea for the remaining 4 days of the trip. On the fifth day the water was shut off across the entire hotel complex - restaurants, pool showers and guest rooms included - and the water became available again the following morning (18 hours later). I have no idea how food was being prepared at the hotel that day without the ability to wash produce or clean dishes. The 4-day violent illness really detracted from our overall experience. Also, there is no bathroom near the beach, which was a concern with the sudden onsets of vomiting or diarrhea. Other surprises: snack bar would serve French fries but did not have ketchup available, bars would serve mixed drinks but did not have lime/lemon slices available, guest rooms have mini fridges but cans of soda or beer are not available. This was not a good trip for us and we will not be returning.

Starfish Cuatro Palmas: the starfish quatro palmas is amazing very very very good

i would say almost every things in this hotel is very good the lobby and the restaurant end the pool and the bar there is the flyes buthering the people but flyes dont pick which is good but in all i am very satisfied

Iberostar Selection Ensenachos: almost perfect

Bad WiFi speed, connection, accessibility, not enough time, only 14 hours for 7 days. Not enough selection of soft drinks, juices were watery and without flavor. Poor information visibility of activities and shows, some of the shows were canceled. Bad locations for changing towels. No changing cabins on the beach or the pool. Not enough shade on family pool. Everything else was good :)
