Loved this resort from start to finish. They truly treat you like Royalty, as first timers in Mexico we felt safe and welcome. From the airport shuttle to check in and check out the Royalton was very informative and make you feel at home. Great food with an abundance of variety. The entertainment was always top notch and the vibe team during the day kept you active and having a great time. The rooms were so comfortable and beds were great. Outdoor Jacuzzi terrace was great for mornings and eveni[... read more]ngs. The beaches were white sand with little to no sea weed. All in all, this was a great resort and would rate it absolutely 10/10.
Will be returning on our next vacation!

Buenaventura Grand Hotel and Great Moments: Location, location, location.
Smaller, comfortable all inclusive resort a short walk from the beautiful Malecon in Old Town PV.
Resort is a bit older but in great shape
The food was excellent and the staff very friendly and attentive.
Grounds are well maintained though the beach was a bit stoney.

NYX Hotel Cancun: Amazing beach, excellent food, friendly staff! 5 Star!
Our group of 12 had a fantastic 1-week all-inclusive vacation at the NYX hotel. The food was delicious. Lunch and dinner were all made to order (order off the menu), the breakfast buffet was great. We definitely ate too much and all the staff were happy to keep bringing us food and drinks. Our favourites were the avocado stuffed with tuna, the fish & shrimp tacos, and the brownies for desert. Also, the guac and salsa were fresh and so tasty!
Restaurant Chianti was classy and the wait staff made[... read more] us feel very welcome and taken care of.
Thank you Alex, Nadia, Itzel and Jose for the lovely date night my husband and I had at Chianti.
Thank you Valeria and your colleagues at the front desk for patiently explaining to the exchange rate for me when I was confused, and finding us an extra special room to upgrade to.
Thank you Eddy at the pool bar for your friendly service. But especially thank you Rhuben and Eduardo for the big smiles and for making us feel welcome everyday! Mucho gracias!
This trip will be tough to beat, I am completely satisfied and would highly recommend this place if the amenities meet your needs.
For those who have not yet visited NYX Cancun, here are somethings I would've liked to have known about the resort:
- It is a smaller resort with a lot of steps, this was no issue for any of us in the group
- I saw all 6 rooms we booked, they were all vastly different sizes and layouts. None of them smelled or were unclean. Most were modern/updated. Some had elevators but most only had stairs. Our Master Suite was not updated but was large with a beautiful view.
- The rooms have free safes
- You get a bottle of water with housekeeping, but you can also ask for drinkable water at the bars and restaurants so we got our re-useables filled many many times
- You can get snacks brought to you on the beach between snack hours! (11-5)
- The main pool is the best, as it is in the sun most of the day and is nice and warm. The smaller pool is in the shade for most of the day and was very cold, we never saw anyone in it
- The hot tubs were not hot, 1 day they were warm and the other days they were not heated. Didn’t bother us, we preferred the beach
- The beach is beautiful and clean, I saw a tractor combing the NYX beach in the early morning
- I dont think the hotel can be faulted for this because it happens everywhere but the beach chairs were always saved, and it was the general etiquette to let people keep their saved chairs. We woke up at 7:15am, 6:45am and 6:15am and these were almost not early enough to get chairs. Most people seem to get up at 5am to save chairs. The beach WOULD have plenty of shade for everyone actually at the beach at one time, but due to the save chairs in the shade where people are not present, it makes it seem like there are not enough shady spots. This was the only actual downside to our trip, but I personally can’t think of a solution for this so I don’t hold it against the hotel at all.
- The hotel was very clean, the staff was very detail-oriented. The foot-washing faucet area was always being swept for sand, the glass balconies where squeegeed, the housekeeping service swept the floors and the balconies, the pool was closed off at night and cleaning chemicals added.
- There is a mall a 10-minute walk away, and a market only a few bus stops away.

Occidental Tucancun: Better than the pictures and reviews make it seem
This was my first time to Mexico, but have visited Cuba and Dominican Republic in the past and based off those as comparison I can say this is an amazing bang for your buck resort.
I travelled with 10 guys on a bachelor's party and the staff loved us and were very welcoming and definitely aided in our daily amusement. Bartenders Max and Ismael provided plenty of entertainment along with great new drinks for us to try based on things we liked.
Armando, one of the hosts was seemingly always aro[... read more]und and was a hoot! He was always trying to get us to laugh even in times when we weren't feeling too hot from the night before.
The food was incredible at each and every buffet or restaurant! Plenty of options for the pickiest of eaters although more a la carte options would have been great since the two they had filled up quickly.
The rooms were definitely not up to modern standards in the form of style and fashion but the beds were comfortable and plenty of pillows and blankets. Our AC was not the greatest but it was sufficient to keep the room ambient.
One of the elevators were not working while we were there as it was under renovation but we didn't mind taking the stairs.
The beaches would be perfect with more shaded areas outside of the palm trees. Finally I would love to see a better maintained beach volleyball court with lines and a net that wasn't sagging significantly.
Being situated directly behind kukulkan mall was incredible incase we needed something that the gift shop didn't have.
Overall it was a great spot and I would definitely return in the future as I know this is a resort that I can trust is solid with great service and a very entertaining staff!

The Pyramid Cancun: Amazing looking resort
The pools and “rain forest†inside the resort look awesome. Lots of options to eat with the pyramid wristband. Food was decent. Somethings were really good and others were just ok but lots to choose from. Plenty of bars and nightclubs on the resort plus a casino.
It’s a party resort so if you want to stay away from the party scene I’d suggest staying in the pyramid and not the cheaper options

Hotel Xcaret Mexico: Best Resort Ever
This resort was absolutely stunning! There is so much to do and everything is done so well. The food was also amazing. They even had lots of Gluten Free foods. The staff members were all very friendly and did everything in their power to make sure everything was to our likings. Not great for older people, as some of the activities are quite extreme. Would definitely go back.

Riu Palace Costa Mujeres: Great Resort!
It's a new resort - so fresh/clean with plenty of space. Wonderful beach - great variety of food - steak house our fav. Probably going back. A lot of big families tho, which can be a little noisy/disruptive - this resort should be all adults and the other beside it, families perhaps.

The Pyramid Cancun: Terrible! Avoid This Place!
I don’t even know where to start with this review. I’m writing it so others do not make the mistake that I did and book at this hotel, which (very fishy!) goes by several names—Sian Ka’an at Sens Cancun, The Pyramids at Grand Oasis, Grand Oasis Cancún, Grand Oasis Palm, Grand Sens Cancun, Oasis Cancun Lite, Oasis Palm, Oh! The Urban Oasis, Smart Cancun by Oasis, but they are all THE EXACT SAME PLACE! Their website is just plain not true, neither are the photos. This is NOT a 5 star (or[... read more] 4 star) resort by any stretch of the imagination. Maybe 3-3.5 stars at best.
I purchased a one week all inclusive adult only “luxury†ocean front room in the Sian Ka’an section in the “Pyramids†which included the black bracelets that are much more expensive and are SUPPOSED TO offer extra luxury benefits like no kids, adult only pools, exclusive beach, bar and restaurant areas, but please know that THEY DON’T—ITS A TOTAL SCAM. Bracelet differences are not enforced AT ALL and kids are everywhere. When I asked about it and said I paid a lot extra for an adult only area for my room, an adult only pool and beach area etc. They said “sorry, but our policy changed last week.†I said “what? You can’t do that†and they just shrugged. It seemed to be a theme with other disappointed guests I talked to that the staff would just smile and say “yes, and we’re really sorryâ€.
Here’s the deal—they sell day passes and overnight short stay passes and this appears to be a BIG part of their business. This means that about 70% of the people at the resort on any given day are locals out for the day with their families. This is fine, but the resort needs to TELL PEOPLE this so they can decide for themselves if this is the experience they want of crowds of people coming and going. It makes everything extra busy with people who are not even really staying at the resort! Plus, for me, one of the fun parts of going to a resort is meeting others who are also on vacation—it just creates a fun vibe—and that’s completely missing here.
As well, be prepared to line up for ALL of your food, even the buffets. There’s no just walking in on your own schedule and choosing your own table from all the open tables. Instead, you must line up to give your room number wherever you go to eat, no matter if it’s a restaurant or a buffet. And don’t even try to take a snack to your room from the buffet because they will flat out not allow you to...oh, and the 24 hour room service that the website refers to does not exist. Neither does the pillow menu, the espresso machine in your room, the premium L’Occitane bath products, or the premium drinks in the in room fridge—in fact there are no premium liquors anywhere here without paying extra. The alcohol they serve at all the bars is the cheapest available with unrecognizable names in big plastic jugs—just gross really.
Rooms are dated and really noisy because they have adjoining doors so you hear EVERYTHING your neighbours are doing. I moved 2 doors down from my first room because the door lock was broken off so you could not lock it from the inside. Additionally lots of things in the room didn’t work—and this was in my new room. When I got there the fridge didn’t work and neither did the safe. I had to call down and wait for someone to fix them. Only half the electrical outlets worked and only one bed side lamp worked.
I will definitely not return to this resort or any “Ossis†related resort because it’s all the same place.. It’s a run down party place for 20 year olds and a day resort for locals. Selling and marketing the Sian Ka’an or Pyramid sections as “luxury†or “adult only†is a blatant lie.

Barcelo Maya Riviera: Nice and New
Overall, this is a lovely resort. It is new and therefore, clean, sleek, modern, and large. There is a convention centre attached to this resort and while we were there - there was a pharmaceutical conference that came in for a few days. They were not disruptive, but they were noticeable in the dining room as they were a large group.
The resort has a more corporate feeling to it rather than your more traditional Mexican resorts.
Our constructive criticisms would be to explore some improvem[... read more]ents on the wines that are available. The all inclusive wine options were not that good and therefore, you have a take away of almost having had a wonderful meal, but it is marred by the poor wines that are included. You do have the option of purchasing better wines - but our expectation is that there would be some nice all included wines.
We stayed in an ocean front premium level room and if we wanted a bottle of wine in our room there would be an extra charge even though they advertise 24 room service is included. The room service is included for food or a glass of wine, not a bottle.
We are not big drinkers but premium all inclusive with a private hot tub just seems like a bottle of wine should not be a challenge.
You are limited to one towel each.
The temperature in the rooms are limited to the lowest setting of 21.5C. It felt much hotter than that in our room but there was nothing we could do about.
I understand the concept of cost controls and appreciate that there are no loud drunks at the pool so that is a good thing, however I couldn’t shake the idea that while it is advertised as an exclusive resort with a premium level, it felt like it was run by accountants trying to provide the minimum they could get away with. I believe their cost controls have crossed the border from frugal to cheap and they have lost the concept of focusing on the customer.
They have saved money by closing the main place to get lunch (only one buffet in the resort) until 12:30 every day.
They saved money by having no food or drink service at the beach.
So to the accountants, please give each other a high five for saving a $100.00 and losing a customer. Your books can only show you the profit made from the price the guest paid vs the costs they incurred. You will have no idea about the losses you will incur due to the customers you loose.

Catalonia Royal Tulum: Enjoyable, relaxing, resort!
Check-in: Good, careful of upselling upon arrival, guest service agent sold us Honeymoon package and made an error in offerings so they gave us free Rauxa Show Tickets to compensate. No upgraded room, same one we booked as it was newer renovated and in middle of resort, quick access to beach/pool and other end to lobby. They gave us a choice as we arrived earlier afternoon as rooms were coming back in service from being cleaned.
Nice rooms, good beds and pillows, well stocked mini-bars, nice[... read more] service to replace pool towels at your room not at the pool (loved this). Refresh rooms nightly. Great housekeeping, clean rooms.
We did not watch any of the shows but heard some were good. Hotel needs a designated professional theatre or stage as at other hotels to have the shows. Entertainment in lobby would have been nice to last more than just an hour while everyone was at dinner and didn't get to enjoy it. Lobby is quite nice, large well appointed, good air circulation, large lobby bar and good space to sit just nothing happening there.
Rauxa show, don't waste your money to buy tickets. Entertaining for sure, food was great but small portions, service was excellent, but wasn't the Wow I was expecting.
Beach, fantastic! Not a huge long beach but a decent bay to walk from one end to the other. Not too much traffic on beach from those outside the resort which was nice. A few beach clubs on the stretch, some abandoned hotels.
Upgrade to Privilege well worth it! Loved having the BLoved restaurant there open all day great food, good service. Beach service by Cesar was awesome. Beach staff serving work hard, so please tip them, they won't forget you. This is not a resort that skimps on alcohol and they serve premium alcohol so tread lightly and be specific on what you want. Coffee is great, OMG fresh bread is everywhere.....
Would definitely return, my husband found it a bit sleepy in regards to daily activities as we are used to larger resorts but this was just what the doctor ordered. Would be a great hotel to go with a few couples.
Specialty restaurants: We really enjoyed the Grill, not crazy about Italian although service by Maitre D' was excellent as I was not feeling well that night and he seemed to cater to our needs while servers were a little disorganized. Did not go to other specialty restaurants but the main buffet was awesome, had everything you would want, not busy at dinner and very good selection. Main buffet was also amazing for breakfast! No reservations needed at any restaurant and plenty of selection to choose from.
Spa massage was not very good. Outdoor area should be like in Punta Cana at the Catalonia Bavaro, no one used the outdoor space and weather was good not too humid and hot. Indoor spa was lovely, gym was there also and was well appointed.
Would I return, yes! This was our first adults only and will not be the last!

Sandos Caracol Nature Resort and Water Park: Needs Work
The main buffet needs some work. The furniture is very tired looking and should be replaced. We were very disappointed with the beach area. There are very large rocks in the water which made it difficult and dangerous to swim. The food in the specialty restaurants was quite good. Enjoyed the steak and seafood and Italian restaurants. The rooms were O.K. But given that it is an eco family resort we were surprised at the very large jacuzzi style tub In our room that, if used, would have been[... read more] a waste of water.
