Melia Cayo Coco: A Great Second Visit
We have just returned from our second trip to the Melia. We stayed Nov 29 – Dec 6 and again, had a fantastic time. The reason we came back to the Melia is the staff. They are truly the reason this resort is so popular. Their professionalism and friendliness match the best anywhere in the world. They are the true ambassadors of the Melia Cayo Coco.
We had emailed Gippsy two weeks prior to our arrival, asking for a room in block 86 or 87 and sure enough we were assigned room 8724. Thank you Gip[... read more]psy. However, there was a problem and the room wouldn’t be ready for quite some time so we were asked if a room in block 89 would be ok. Bonus. Just as good. There were a couple of minor problems that were very quickly taken care of but they never could get the fan speed on the air-conditioned turned down. It was stuck on high which was noisy but luckily it cooled off in the evenings so we really didn’t need it on. We were in 8611 last year and this room, 8913, was pretty much the same except it had been freshly painted, had a flat screen TV, a canopy bed and updated bedspread and curtains. Furniture and bathroom were the same. Very clean and well taken care of each day. My kudo’s to the housekeeping staff.
The buffet had the same high standards as it did last year. Lots of choices every day. Fresh omelets in the morning were a favorite and the pasta bar and the evening ‘Theme†meals were delicious. Lots of salad selections and the same fantastic deserts. Osvaldo and Yennifer took great care of us all week.
Lunch at the beach BBQ was equally good. Grilled chicken, pork and ribs, as well as fresh fish and kabobs that the chef will cook for you.
We only went to the Italian a la carte this trip and it was very good.
All the bars have great service. We hung around the lobby bar the most. It was so nice to meet up with Yeni again. She is such a sweet heart and took great care of us. As did Aldo, Livan and Arley. Excellent service.
The beach has lots of palapas and loungers, and it’s never a problem getting shade. When the tide comes in it gets quite narrow but there is still room to walk. Not really a problem. .
We are not really pool people, but it was pretty windy at the beginning of the week and we found getting a lounger there was impossible. We would go through the pool area on our way to the lobby at around 7:30 and every lounger was taken by a towel. And almost half of them remained empty until late afternoon. This changed on the Wednesday and we didn’t have a problem after that, but there were still many that were claimed by towels all day long, but no one ever used them.
As always, we took mosquito repellent but never used it. We didn't see a bug the whole time we were there. It was pretty breezy the whole week so I guess that is what kept them away.
We had a great second visit and from the moment we arrived, the staff and management at the Melia were so helpful and friendly they couldn't do enough for us. It was sad to leave. But, on the bright side, we are booked to return next April. Many thanks and we’ll see you then. Feliz Navidad y próspero año nuevo

Melia Las Dunas: Amazing
Check-in was quick & simple & then we were escorted to our suite. Absolutely beautiful accomodations. My sisters wedding was on the beach here & the staff knew our names immediately. We were constantly asked if we needed anything or if they could assist with anything. Breakfast every morning was great! something good for everyone! The grounds, the pool, the spa - just lovely! The beach was clean and the views breathtaking. We will be going back for another awesome experience! No complaints whats[... read more]oever! You will love it!

Tryp Cayo Coco: High & Low Season thats matter
Okay let me give the honest Review! After being visiting 45 countries my review on Tryp Cayo Coco Hotel. Food was good specially the sea food, like this hotel had crabs too, where some others hotel dont even have it even they are more stars rated ,but I fail to understand even when the rooms occupancy above 75% yet the food shortage was their likefor e.g the shrimps only those people would get at the BBQ If you are their at the very first hour of the dinner. I understand completely if it is the [... read more]Low season and occupancy is less. Room toilet sucked the commode was working but dint have enough speed to flash the out put down lol I hope you got it what i mean, it was disgusting to see the thingy Floating . Night entertainers need more energy while performing. The money one pays in a high season I think its bit unfair but yes!it worth the price on a low season worth the money. ALL I WANT TO SAY I RESPECT THE HARD WORK AND THE EFFORTS THE CUBAN PEOPLE PUT !!THAT'S MAKE THE MAGIC WORKS!!

Paradisus Princesa Del Mar: Resort-paradisus princess del mar
Some glitches for ourselves our room was wonderful, but my sister and her husbands room itself had , eg the a/c was not working plus there was no temperature control to regulate it. . Central control. The fridge was not cooling, light bulb missing from floor lamp. After several complaints they insisted they be moved to another room . The grounds are very well kept, it's very clean . There were inconsistencies in sticking of the rooms, you may get coffee but no filter or sugar. Food was very good[... read more] and lots variety, albeit quite bland. We took our own spices ,the a la carte we booked 4 , we cancelled one but the other ie: the Japanese, French and Thai were amazing.the staff at the buffet and overall attitudes very good, some language barrier if you don't speak Spanish
The shows were posted on great looking posters but the times were not listed

Melia Las Dunas: Everything was good except the food.
Very beautiful place, well managed and friendly staff. My only complaint is that the food has very little seasoning. Most food lacks flavor. Pasta is boring, and the means are barely seasoned. I did enjoy it however.

Dreams Sapphire Resort and Spa: Another great trip to the Mayan Riviera!
This was our first time at the NOW Sapphire and we had a nice trip. The weather at the beginning of Dec is always hit and miss, nut even when it rained, the lobby bar had entertainment and great bar service!
The rooms were nicely equipped, tipping your maid service goes a long way. The restaurants were all good, the food is nicely presented and plentiful. Try and go to the hibachi show at the Lemongrass. Very entertaining!
The preferred lounge was a nice touch. Yummy snacks and treats.
You could[... read more] walk forever along the beach, yes there is seaweed but nothing you couldn't get around. Lots of chairs, palapas and towels. Never had a problem finding somewhere to sit. But be aware, the preferred pool has limited seating and Bali beds, and you must reserve them the day before. And don't be late claiming them or they give them away (trust me).
Overall, we had a nice time at this resort. It's big enough to find things to do with plenty of choices for activities, food and bars. But it's also small enough to get around without issue.

Melia Las Dunas: Pleasantly Surprised
I have been to Cuba before and enjoyed myself but didn't enjoy the food. I was told you don't go to cuba for food. This resort was amazing! I never went hungry. The food was always fresh and they had a variety of different things! The staff was amazing and very helpful. We went for a wedding which was a little unorganized but overall the trip was fun!

Sol Palmeras: Such a Great Experience!
On my 6th, and my wife's 3rd visit to Cuba in different resorts, an amazing holiday at Sol Palmeras. Great bungalow, great buffet La Panchita, with diverse food offers and exceptional table service (thank you Evian, Mabel, Yunislady and Rosita!). The lobby bar Cubitas, with tasty cocktails and entertaining bar waiters (thank you Rene, and all others I didn't get their names!).
Great cleaning service, everyone is doing their best to accomodate your needs in this resort!
Don't forget to tip worker[... read more]s there: they are doing a great job to accomodate your needs, and without conditioning the service pending a tip, like in some other resorts...
But, from far - thanks to Dayana - the Customer Service of the resort was BEYOND the expectation! She was so extremely efficient, while being away, leaving clear instructions to her colleagues about our accomodation. In our opinion she is a great asset for Sol Palmeras. Thank you, Dayana, and also thanks everyone at Sol Palmeras, for making our holiday a great one.
The only downside was the high level of noise in the main lobby, and in the buffet restaurant. I'm sure we are not the first one bringing that to the table, and I'm also confident that the management is doing something about it.
For sure, next year, we will be back to this resort!
Traveled as a couple, November 21-28, 2014.

Sol Palmeras: Always a Great Time
First time at this resort food was okay in buffet but definately recommend booking reservations at one of their many fine resturants. (Steak house and Mexican was my fave!). The staff were amazing like most Cuban resorts! The rooms were kept clean very clean and my girlfriend and myself enjoyed how the maid would come up with something new every day with the towels. The only thing I could possibly complain about was the beds. But right from day one the greetings to the goodbyes the staff made ou[... read more]r trip that much more memorable! Met some great new friends from all over and we will be returning again in the very near future!

Memories Cayo Largo: So nice went twice!
After visiting Cuba seven times, this is the first time we have gone to the same place twice. Many of the other places we've been were great but for us this is the perfect place, very much because of what they don't have. This is a very low-key, quiet and small resort. They do have activities but compared to other resorts not a lot. We go to this spot for quiet relaxation. Fewer activities mean less pounding music to put up with (they do have some of this annoying music but it is easy to escape)[... read more] We also don't mind that they have only two a la carte restaurants - we don't go to Cuba for the food and no one should really, it is a break from our usual over-indulgence at home! We love the beach that you can walk for ages in either direction, the water which is always gorgeous, although the water right at the resort it sometimes too rough for me but there are other beautiful calm beaches that are easy to get to by a long walk or a shuttle. Bring water shoes if you want to walk really far, there are some very brief rocky sections. We love that most of the music playing around the resort is Cuban and often in-house musicians and dancers who are very good. The shows we rarely go to but the two we saw were fun, they involve the guests very much which is quite entertaining. We love the staff who are so friendly, you can't walk by one without getting a smile and a hello often asking if everything is ok. Special recognition to Nathalie who does an outstanding job with a big smile all the time. We were made to feel very welcome on our second visit, with a special check in desk, and a special dinner by the pool. Again the food is typical Cuban resort: overcooked, mostly canned fruit & veg but more than enough to keep you full and happy. Prepare for a high protein /low fiber diet, fine for one week! We were pleased to see the resort is investing in improvements around the property with some new walkways being built etc - the property is very clean and tidy at all times. The rooms are clean and tidy I recommend you take an insulated to-go cup for your drink and coffee - they use very small plastic cups for drinks which are terrible for the environment - as you will see, sadly, on the farther afield beaches, there is so much plastic washed ashore, let's each try not to contribute to that. The resort is clearly trying to be environmentally responsible, including providing a turtle refuge to make sure their eggs are protected. We were so fortunate to happen to be nearby when some turtle eggs were hatching and helped them on their journey to the water. We also saw pelicans, storks, eagles. It is a great spot for nature photographers. They will also appreciate that the resort is situated so that you get both sunrise & sunset viewing I really don’t have anything negative to say about this resort but for others it may be too quiet!

Sol Varadero Beach: Great Beach; Warm people!
We stayed on the Sirenas side which is still to be renovated (Coral was recently upgraded). The hotel was great; but don't go if you like to dance at a local disco. Beaches are beautiful; well lit at night, and well maintained. The animation staff is warm; but not as friendly as some resorts. The food has gotten better in Cuba; and i don't go there for the 5 star restaurants. I liked the hotel, but it isn't my favorite in Cuba. Rooms however were clean, and with the exception of a few small issu[... read more]es well maintained. For the price I'd go again.

Melia Cayo Coco: Amazing Resort
The best thing about this resort was the people. They were so friendly and personable and is the main reason why we would return. With their humour they made the resort a fun place to be. You could join in with the many activities or sit by the pool and watch... both were fun.
The food was excellent with lots to choose from at the buffet. We also tried all 3 'a la cart' restaurants and the food was really good. I wouldn't miss any of these when we go there again. My favorite was the Italian Res[... read more]taurant as the food was the best on the resort, in my opinion, and the fun waiter made us laugh all evening.
Rooms were very clean, bed was comfortable, lots of hot water for showers, and the air conditioning worked very well. No complaints at all regarding the rooms. We took our universal plugins and our cell phones and iPads charged well. The blow dryer in the room worked well. Only wished a hair straightener could work there... will have to buy a European one maybe.
The pool area and the pool were well maintained. Washrooms off the pool area were kept extremely clean with an attendance present at all times cleaning continuously. It was a pleasure to tip this person who, I'm sure, doesn't get many tips. :)
Speaking of tips, a coin here and there is much appreciated. And those you tip will always remember you.
Only one day were we inundated with mosquitos. It was a day of no breeze and lots of rain so that may account for some of it. Once they sprayed :( it was better. The lobby bar was the place to be when it rained as they had games to play if you wanted, or you could sit and drink and enjoy the company of others.
We also enjoyed the variety of live entertainment in the lobby bar each evening until the nightly show began.
We will definitely return to this resort and would highly recommend it. And it's so close to the airport... bonus! The Westjet Vacations people treated us very well and made sure we got to and from the resort.
