The hotel was wonderful. My husband and I were always concerned about travelling to Cuba because we have always heard that the food was terrible. Well we beg to differ. If you cant find something to eat at this resort then I would say that you are way to fussy. There wasn't a meal that we could complain about. The a la carts were great as well. We did the Chinese and Italian. I would go back to this resort any time as well as recommend it to anyone.

Melia Las Dunas: A great relaxing time
We really enjoyed this first time ever to an all inclusive resort. We are backpackers so this was a lovely pampered, restful change of pace. Highly recommend going mid November. Excellent price! Hot sunny weather. The resort was approximately half full and service was very good. Staff were always trying to please us, other resorters were so nice. Our building 47 second floor room was quiet, had a view of water, was close to the quiet adult pool and beach, and only 5 min walk to lobby and restaur[... read more]ants. The evening entertainment was very good. Lobby morning coffee drinks were to-die-for. Our room was clean, there was always something delicious for us to eat (I'm a vegetarian), and the bar drinks were super delish! The beach is the best on the strip of local resorts. Thanks to Teresa Gates at Trip Central for recommending Melia Las Dunas Santa Maria to us!

Sol Cayo Santa Maria: Good Resort
Needs quite a bit of maintenance. Buffet lunch was cold. We got there at 12:30 and had to wait for our room til 4:00. Was not impressed by that. I worked 2 12 hour shifts prior and was up all night prior to going to airport. Found receptionist rude. Our ocean view room was far from being ocean view. The pools were great and people were friendly. Most of our meals were great after the first day.

Tryp Cayo Coco: Awesome Trip
Travelled to TRYP Cayo Coco Nov.14 to 21 with my friend. Haven't been to Cuba in 8 years - first impression of this place the night we arrived was terrible. No help with luggage to our room, couldn't find out building number as it was dark, lugged our bags up 3 floors in the pitch dark. Room was not that great...(mind you I'm used to Mexico and DR 4 stars)....dropped our stuff off and went back to desk to ask for a room change. They accommodated and the next day we were moved to a ground floor w[... read more]ith new tile, etc. This was much better.
From then on our trip was AMAZING. The staff were fantastic. The pool was great and the ocean - beautiful. The beach is quite "short" as the tide is in mostly all day, but still enough room to lay out. We just had so much fun. Met great people.
Food was pretty decent. The only issue i had was the buffett hours...breakfast was 7-10AM and then lunch didn't start until 130! so if you missed breakfast or ate really early, you were starving. Yes, they have a beach restaurant, but a lot of time, it was too packed for a table and even if you got one, you were waiting for service for quite some time. The times we did eat in the buffet for dinner and lunch were reeally good...awesome pizza that you can have made to order, past bar, sushi, etc. Really good!
They are in the process of renovating/updating this resort, but you have to remember it's Cuba. They dont' have the money or resources that other countries do, but they're trying. Nothing's been done in 17 years here. I would definitley return though!

Melia Las Dunas: Just OK
My husband and I stayed at Melia Las Dunas the week of November 23rd. I selected this hotel based on the reviews that were posted on trip advisor with the majority of them being very positive. Although we enjoyed our vacation I must add that we were both disappointed with the hotel overall. The hotel is dated and in much need of renovations to freshen it up (this includes rooms and pool area). Our first room was not up to par (major leak under bathroom sink which they fixed by shutting off the w[... read more]ater when we were out the first evening) and based on this I'm not even sure why when the resort is not at full capacity that they would assign this room (4815) to guests when they know (unless you wouldn't mind a big puddle in the middle of your bathroom) it will be an issue. With this being said our second room was much better. The food at the hotel is good but not very much of a variety from day to day. We love Cuba, have been there 2 previous times and will return at some point next year again.....but not to this hotel. Did we like the hotel...no. Would we recommend the hotel....no. Did it ruin our trip....no we still had a good time.

Hotel Camino del Mar: Exceeded expectations
This was our first trip to Cuba -- glad we kicked things off with a resort that exceeded expectations. Excellent ratio of staff to guests; the standard of service was very high, and no request seemed to go unfulfilled (though to be fair, we're not very demanding guests). The location is excellent, provided you're not expecting night life or shopping, since Cayo Guillermo is quite isolated. Fantastic if you're looking for an on-resort or nature/beach-oriented vacation, however, and plenty of day [... read more]excursions are available for things such as snorkeling on the beautiful barrier reef a mile or so offshore. Even the inshore snorkeling is pretty good -- warm, crystal clear, and shallow -- and I spent hours each day in the water and couldn't have been happier. Food was also better than expected; regular guests told us the food has improved significantly in the last several months, and we were certainly quite satisfied. The a la carte restaurants weren't qualitatively very different from the buffet, though the formal dining experience was a nice change of pace.
Great stay overall!

Melia Marina Varadero: Only one word to describe it - amazing!
Our stay at Melia Marina Varadero was wonderful! Our room was spotless and modern. We were on the 4th floor overlooking the marina - a perfect location for sitting on our glassed in balcony, viewing the nightly entertainment when we were too tired to actually attend the festivities below. The employees of the resort were fabulous - always courteous and kind. Customer service was priority one - from Barbara who took care of our room, Rubier (Rootbeer) at the pool, Vanietta (Vanna) at the bar (jus[... read more]t to name a few). All staff greeted you with a smile and would do what they could to make our vacation special - they succeeded. The food was amazing - not something you usually hear from people who have vacationed in Cuba. The 3 ala cartes, the buffet, pool restaurant and beach restaurant all had different menus and the food was superb. The resort is very well maintained (thank you to the gardeners and the maintenance staff for all of their hard work). This is a new resort and we were pleasantly surprised that there was nothing that needed refining. Melia Marina should be a "must go" location if you are thinking of vacationing in Cuba - we plan to go back within the year!

Paradisus Varadero: Great time
The rooms were nice, and the ground was always clean and neat. The service is good, but the only thing I noticed, not all the food is tagged to say what it was.. Lots of people don't eat all the different foods. The entertainment was amazing.

Paradisus Princesa Del Mar: Grounds of the hotel well kept and attractive.
For a five star hotel the mattress and t.v. could do with upgrading. Variety and quality of buffet food was very good. Nice variety of restaurant choice, however overall quality needs to improve. Nightly entertainment in the main foyer and on then rounds was excellent. Staff were friendly and helpful. Service and staff on Sunwing was of high quality.

Melia Las Americas: lovely resort with lots to do
The grounds are well kept and the views are amazing. The ocean is a beautiful turquoise colour with darker areas and white waves. Mesmerizing! People are friendly, food is good and the golf is convenient being right next door. A great place to vacation!
OVER ALL IT WAS A NICE AND CLEAN RESORT! UNFORTUNATLY FOR US LOTS OF RENOVATIONS AND CONSTRUCTION AND 2 RESTAURANT WERE CLOSED AND NOISY ALL AROUND EXCEPT IN OUR ROOM. BUT OVER ALL WE LIKE HOW NICE THE PEOPLE ARE. ALWAYS HAPPY TO HELP YOU.

Paradisus Princesa Del Mar: Amazing Resort
The grounds, the rooms , the relaxed atmosphere, the friendly and very helpful service plus the nightly entertainment (5 STARS!), the beautiful beach - all make for a perfect setting in a very safe environment. As to dining = one will never be hungry, but one also does not go to Cuba for a culinary feast.

Paradisus Princesa Del Mar: It was Ok
My boyfriend & I are in our early 40s, we went from Thurs morning to Sunday night in late Nov 2014. The hotel staff were gracious and accomodating-check in isn't till 3pm but my bf told them that it was just a short getaway weekend for my birthday they got us our room right away and with a king size bed. The hotel is older. The maid changed our towels & bedding but the room wasn't the best clean it could be, bathroom and floor could have used more attention. The food...like everyone says "You do[... read more]n't go to Cuba for the food", you go for the fantastic beach, weather, and affordability but I have been to Cuba 4x and I don't see any reason why they can't improve the tourists culinary experience. Breakfast: if you wait in line for fresh eggs they are great, the bacon was almost raw here, they need to cook it; Lunch: the restaurant by the beach we would not recommend, the food was cooked on an outdoor grill and left sitting for some time, everthing was overdone and dry, and the service was apathetic; the restaurant by the pool, not the buffet was pretty good, pizza & french fries were decent; Dinner: hands down the Japanese restaurant was the best meal we had, you actually felt like you were in a real restaurant, the staff did a great job at authenticating the experience and the food was fresh and tasty. The buffet was okay, pasta with fresh sauce and lots of salt & pepper, and the mango ice cream were good.
We stayed at Melia Marina Varadero in Feb for a week and would recommend it over Paradisus Princess Del Mar, it is new, cleaner, the entertainment was more professional, and we liked the layout better...plus a Cuban lady singing in the lobby every night, accompanied by a trio playing guitars, etc. PPDM had a Cuban singer in the piano bar but it didn't start till 11pm.
Not a bad experience, you could do worse but we would recommend MMV over PPDM.

Melia Buenavista: Mother/Daughter Trip
My Mother (57) and I (31) had a wonderful stay at this amazing resort.
I was a tad apprehensive prior to leaving, because I had heard of poor food in Cuba and mostly vacation in Mexico. I assure you that this is NOT the case with MBV. My mother has a seafood allergy and our butler made all the resturants aware prior to our dinners for worrie free dining.
We relaxed around the pool in a beautiful cabana each day, and enjoyed the pool floats that they provided. The pizzas by the pool bar is a must[... read more] for lunch. Delicious!!
We each had three spa treatments (2 different massages and a facial) the Estheticians a were wonderful and the prices were very comparable to back here at home.
It was very relaxing and just what we were looking for.
My only complaint was that the wifi was not working most of the week and made it difficult to communicate with my husband back home and to do a few work emails.
I will most definitely return.

Sol Rio de Luna y Mares: More than hoped for!!
I found the rooms to be very clean. The beach was quite extensive and never had a problem finding a wonderful spot to lay. The food was exceptional, especially for the fresh seafood every day!! Also the variety of meat that could be cooked to your liking was a bonus! A favorite of mine was the pasta bar at night and the omelette bar in the morning. The staff were very friendly and helpful specially Robert and Suzi from the excursions team.

Memories Cayo Largo: The Good, The Bad, But Not Ugly
This was our third trip to Sol Cayo Largo with the most recent being in March of this year. We have been to various destinations in Cuba 11 times over the past 12 years and Sol Cayo Largo is definitely our most favorite resort for the beauty of the island and the friendly staff. From a perspective point of view we are both in our 50’s and do not consider ourselves fussy people with any dietary restrictions. In other words we are easy going and will go with the flow of things so the little thin[... read more]gs that may bother some people will not in any way lessen our vacation experience.
Vacation Date: November 17th – 24th.
Weather: Sunny with scattered clouds, 80F (26C) to 90F (32C), one cool day 70 F (21C). We believe it might have rained at night a couple of times because the walkways were wet in the morning. There were a few showers on the day we left. No one can control the weather in Cuba any more than you can at home so while we had great weather at that time of the year, it is unpredictable.
Arrival: BAD – A large number of travelers on our flight that were headed to the Sol took taxi’s and it appeared that the bus driver had no plan to depart from the airport until the bus was full. A flight from Toronto landed right after we did, so we sat on the bus for 60 minutes waiting for the bus to fill up and it didn’t because many of the vacationers were impatient and ended up getting off the bus and grabbing cabs. Finally someone sitting beside us went out and paid the bus driver $10.00 to leave right away (which he did). It took about 5 minutes to get to the resort. Mental note to ourselves … next time grab a cab.
Check In: GOOD – As repeaters and paying for a superior ocean view room, we had a separate check-in area.
Room: BAD – We had hoped to be in building 36, 37 or 38 and ended up in 37. We understand that the resort are upgrading the rooms (they need it) and our room is obviously on the list to be upgraded. We booked through TMR via Tripcentral and paid for the Premier Oceanview Room which was to include a stocked minibar upon arrival, rum bottle, beach towels in the room, bathrobe, coffee maker and other items. We arrived in the middle of the afternoon and had none of the items mentioned above. Within minutes of placing a call to guest services almost everything was resolved (we never did get the coffee maker). The building was without hot water for almost 24 hours (maintenance had to repair something on the roof of the building). The patio door did not lock on our balcony and if you have someone beside you who was ambitious enough to want to steal, I can see how easy it would be for someone to climb around the lattice fence between the two rooms and pilfer items from your room. I can’t see that happening, but I guess it could. We had great neighbors during our stay so we had no worries. Kudo’s to the staff for following up after any issue that was raised.
The Resort and Workers: GOOD – actually this should be an EXCELLENT. The resort is in great shape and everyone always has a smile and will do anything in their power to make your stay a pleasant one.
Food: GOOD – the food is outstanding at both the a la carte restaurants and buffet restaurants. In presentations and taste. Hint… do not miss an opportunity to go to the main buffet for lunch. We went to the beach side grill daily until the second last day of our stay and regretted not doing so earlier in our vacation. Greater variety of foods and they even had ice cream. There is no way someone can tell us that they couldn’t find something to eat that would satisfy their taste buds.
No See Um’s: BAD – These little tiny mosquitoes are relentless starting about 30 minutes before sundown and well into the evening. They do fog the resort but these critters are hungry. I suspect like here in Canada, the mosquitoes are bad at the beginning of summer and as the land dries up, there are fewer breeding grounds and by the time late summer rolls around there will be fewer bugs. So it is with Cayo Largo. They are coming out of their wet season so the bugs are plentiful. By next March, I suspect that they will not be as bad. Bring bug spray and some after-bite especially if you are visiting during or just after the wet season. We heard through the grapevine that they are planning to close in the main buffet dining room and add air conditioning to help eliminate the bugs and keep the vacationers cool. If true, it’s a great plan but I hope that they make the walls somewhat portable so that they can go back to the open concept during the dryer portion of the season.
Overall: GOOD – We love the resort and the people and especially the beaches. We will return but I’m not sure I would book the Premier Oceanview Room next time around.

Melia Las Americas: Great golf getaway!
If you like to golf you will enjoy. I had a great time golfing everyday but must book early tee times as is seems to get very disorganized and slow by late morning. Wasn't fond of the 2 single beds pushed together. I paid extra for ocean view but from what I could tell all rooms had pretty much ocean view ( ocean on both sides of the resort ) beach side and golf course side which also had the ocean view.
