Very beautiful property and really enjoyed the long pool.
We were able to do an ala carte every night and only duplicated one night.
The club zone for teens was nice but not as many teens hung out there as we had hoped.

Paradisus Punta Cana: Wonderful Resort!
We really enjoyed the Paradisus Punta Cana. Last year, we stayed at the Paradisus Palma Real, farther down the beach. The Buffet at the Palma Real was better, but otherwise, we preferred the Paradisus Punta Cana. A large resort, with beautifully landscaped grounds and a long, wide, white sand beach. The beach chairs were well spaced and the beach never felt crowded. Lots to do for adults and there were many families there as well. The resort is large, but there are efficient trolleys to help get[... read more] around, and the staff were friendly and helpful. Great value - highly recommend.

Bahia Principe Explore Punta Cana: excellent
We returned to this resort because we loved it so much 5 years ago and were impressed by the entire experience. Once again, the food was amazing and the grounds were impeccably maintained. Pool bar and restaurant staff were very friendly!
My only negative comment was our room, when we first arrived there was half a can of beer sitting on our bathroom floor, not sure how that was missed especially with a changeover of occupants uness the maids were drinking on the job, but it made me questi[... read more]on the cleanliness? Also the mirror looked like it had been through a war, I actually first thought it was covered in mud and tried to clean it, but it was just totally damaged.
My only other comment would be that there is not enough beach space for this massive resort, and unless you go reserve yourself a chair before 8AM you're out of luck. (compared to neighbouring resorts who had tonnes of room to spread out and even had empty chairs)
Anyhow, we had a fabulous week! .

Bahia Principe Escape Aquamarine: Rest and Relaxation
This resort is top notch, I was not told no once (Ha Ha) no seriously the people that work there are amazing hard working. The resort is very clean, well kept.you can not go hungry here. The drinks are plentiful. The pools are very clean. The a la carts that we went too were great experiences.
Everything at this resort was exceptional..Staff was very helpful and friendly. However, the resort needs more English speaking staff. Many spoke little or no English at all. The rooms were absolutely beautiful. The layout was exceptional. Yes I myself would definitely return to this resort.

Catalonia Bavaro Resort: Great Family Vacation
We had a lovely time at the resort! Our family of four, including two 6 year olds, enjoyed our stay!
The beach and pools are very nice! Our hotel room was ok, we liked that it was close to the beach. The maids did an ok job at cleaning. We never knew what time they would show up and what they would leave for towels or drinks, it varied day to day. We left lots of things laying around and nothing was stolen.
Samuel at the pool bar made the whole pool experience and the little new guy at the[... read more] front desk was very kind and helpful, Anjelo or Anyelo I think was his name. Most of the staff were friendly and helpful, some were not but we didn’t let that bother us.
We really liked that there were covered walkways most of the way to and from the lobby and beach, so we could get shade if we wanted.
The wifi was give or take, mostly take, and there should be more plug ins both in the rooms and around the resort so people can charge their devices.
The grounds were kept ok, maybe a few more staff would help. The beach was well kept and we really appreciated that everyone took their towels or they were removed each night so every day was a fresh day. We loved all the palm trees on the beach and huts to get out of the sun.
The birds were my favourite and I enjoyed photographing them. Maybe more care given to the wildlife areas would be an extra bonus to photographers like myself.
The food was good. We especially liked the Rodeo Steakhouse. The house white wine was disgusting cloudy and not drinkable, the house red was ok. The bottled wines at the a la cartes were good though. I wish there had been more champagne for mimosas, but made due with vodka and orange. We really liked the natural fruit juice bar on the beach. As well as the daily and nightly activities.
All in all it was a great vacation!!

TRS Cap Cana Hotel: Beautiful Resort, beach is so so
The grounds are beautiful and having a 'swim-up' was great. Food was great and for the most part, the staff were friendly. At times, some of the wait staff could not speak English but not too frequent. The small beach on the resort is nice, however, the water is always murky from the sand kicking up. The neighboring beach is a bit rocky and the cost of drinks / food there adds up quickly. With the exception of the hotel gift shop, there is only a couple of other shops nearby. The lobby bar [... read more]area has very little entertainment in the evening. Some evenings, there is none. After checking out, the driver hired to drive us to the airport was not very friendly. Overall, we had a great time. If we didn't return to this resort, it would be due to not having a nicer beach.

Ocean Blue and Sand: Great Value Resort
Aside form the undrinkable "house wine" wine and the rooster that woke me up in the mornings. This was a great vacation for me and my family. The resort is very well maintained the staff is great as is the food & restaurants. The plus of having a coffee house was very well received. The kids loved the bowling and kids club. Would recommend for the price we paid.

Paradisus Palma Real Golf and Spa Resort: Great hotel room
Most of the employees were really kind and cared about your needs. The hotel room was really cool how there was a window to the bathroom so we could watch TV in the bath. The one issue with the room was that when we first came the bathtub seemed a bit dirty and also the shower was kind of weird that it had jets in the wall so it was scary to turn it on. I really enjoyed the drinks by the pool as they were all delicious.

Overall a decent resort. The buffet was great. We never went hungry. Lots of quality selection. Booze was ok. You could buy the better booze at the bars if you wanted. Beach was beautiful. White sand and turquoise water. The architecture was pretty plain and so was the pool and gardens. Nothing flashy about this resort at all. Lots of French speaking people there. Not as many English. Melia Caribe Beach Resort: Melia Caribe Tropical, a nice resort near Punta Cana
This resort is a solid 4 star. It is definitely a nice resort, but there are some minor issues, or rather, nuances, that will prevent them from getting 5 stars.
First the positive:
This resort is huge, and yet it was not crowded at all, despite the fact that half of our stay was during the supposedly busy March break period.
People just kind of dispersed throughout the huge facility. The beach is about a km (just over half a mile) walk from the main lobby building, so depending on where you[... read more]r apartment or room is located, it may be a good walk. The good news is that the hotel runs regular train service all around the facility, and during the busy evening periods, this is topped up with multiple golf carts transporting people around.
There have been plenty of space on the beach or around the pool at any given time. No need to hunt for beach chairs, or waking up early to reserve seat and finish the rest of your morning sleep on the beach (that is what I did last year at a different resort in a different country). The beach is probably 400-500 m wide (1/4 mile), and you may want to check it out at the Level apartments, as it seemed to be always clean of seaweed.
The food is decent, especially in the buffet, we were never disappointed in that. The other restaurants are nothing special, only good for a break from the buffet. We were not impressed with these a la carte restaurants at all, the desserts were especially bad. During every breakfast or lunch, they try to get you to reserve a spot in the Japanese hibachi or in the Steakhouse restaurant for USD 50 per person, but not with great success, mostly these places were empty at night.
The rooms are clean and upgraded, the room service and the minibar refill is timely and regular.
Staff is friendly, and you don’t feel the urge or necessity to tip. You can certainly tip your golf cart driver, or your waiter/waitress, or the gardener who, just out of the blue, cuts up a coconut for you, but you don’t have the feeling that they expect it from you.
The grounds are very well maintained, there are lots of peacocks around, so you can take some nice pictures. Note that they will appear beside your breakfast table too ;-))
Now the less positive:
If you decide to sign up for any tour, like dune buggys, monkey land, sailing, anything that is outside the resort, be ready that your trip on the bus will be an average of 60-80 minutes longer. That is because they pick up Melia guests first, and drop them off last. It is not really the hotels fault, but it could be an inconvenience, especially because that extra hour you spend on these not so comfortable truck-converted-to-bus type vehicles.
Again, desserts in the à la carte restaurants are definitely seeking some major improvements.
The beach was ha it and miss to be clean from seaweed, and that goes for the water too. The good thing is that this whole beach is so wide, that you will eventually find a spot where everything is clean.
Be ready for all kinds of sales pitches when you walk on the beach. People will try to sell you anything from pictures with a monkey thru parasailing all the way to weed.
Overall, we were satisfied with this resort, and would recommend it for both families with kids of any ages, as well as for couples. We even probably will return in the future. And definitely will mark Melia resorts as preference on my future searches.

Excellence Punta Cana: Gorgeous resort, fantastic food, be careful of room you book.
Absolutely beautiful setting, food was super. Pools and ocean perfect.
However, be careful of the room you book. My wife and I booked a Junior Suite with a small pool attached to deck. Requested oceanfront. Our room was at the far end of the resort, looking at the woods, pool was in the shade and only 2' wide as opposed to 6' wide pools In all the other rooms.
THE RESORT CLAIMED, they were full and didn't have any other rooms. They gave us a new oceanfront room without a pool, BUT, REFUSE[... read more]D to refund any money for the downgrade. I don't think this the fault of Trip Central, but a suspect business practice on behalf of the resort.
Nightly entertainment was also very enjoyable, just be cautious when booking.

Royalton Bavaro Resort and Spa: Will be a 5 star when fully opened
Stayed in building 16 room 433 from Feb 27- Mar 6 which I'm sure had just been painted.Opened our patio each time in the room. This side of the building faced the back wall of the resort next door. Even numbers would face the pool area. Shower area didn't drain called maintenance and they got all the cement out of the drain. A couple days had the septic smell in the room. Put the plugs down in the sink and tub- helped. There were still rooms that were being worked on that hadn't opened yet. Check[... read more] in was a headache- room not ready after 2 hours. Our wrist band keys and our friends we were travelling with didn't work. Had to make three trips to front desk to get them re keyed. Luckily they drove us in the golf cart each time. Very frustrating. But the wrist band is an excellent idea instead of a card key. CONS-running out of soap and toilet paper in restrooms had to wait in line for restrooms at beach areas,no kleenex or soap dish in room. Odd bathroom arrangement in rooms- toilet right when you walk in. Water at pools is a little chilly. Steak house- waited 2 hrs first night - took our name off the list and went to buffet. Second time-waited 1.5 hrs- service was terrible, steaks were over done. Rio Brazilian excellent the first night- second night meat was over cooked and we only got 4 of the 8 or 9 meats offered. Even asked for them to bring other meat. And there are tons of wait staff there! Not sure the purpose of the Wine Sommelia at all the restaurants as he came around after we had our drinks and ordered or sometimes eating our food. Raw hamburgers at the lunch buffet. PROS- Plenty of towels for beach and room. Thank you!! The lazy river was a blast and the bar in the lazy river was a great idea. And we are all over 55...not just for kids. Our husbands even tried the body surfing and had fun. Water slides and pool that are shaded with huge tarps- great idea! Thanks to Pineapple for daily entertainment she is funny and works hard to get people to join in the activities. And then they all work hard for the night entertainment. Always lots to do- family painting was great- nice treasure to bring home. Tons of exercises. Bingo at the pool etc. Teen club with ping pong and pool table etc.I know the activities were on our tv but a paper with the info would be helpful also as we couldn't remember everything that was going on.Entertainment at night was great and even had kids time before adults. I guess the characters that are typically at Royalton resorts came after we left. Premium alcohol served at all bars.Andy and Darlin at the beach club bar which was right outside our building were great and always remembered what we were drinking. Chip wagon at beach- GREAT idea. always a line up and great for a mid afternoon snack of fries or hamburger. Coffee and ice cream shop is a great idea also but is way up at the main lobby area. Would have had more visits if it was closer to pool area. Always good service at the grand marche buffet . Shout out to Moises and Kenia for being so attentive. We did have lobster at the buffet one night. And had our fill of it! Theme nights at the buffets would make those that can't get into the restaurants a little happier. I'm sure when the other restaurants, Greek, Sampling and Med. open it will lessen the burden. Italian is very good and always full. We did see wheelchairs so I believe it is all accessible. LOVED that there were elevators in the buildings as we were on the fourth floor.
This is our third visit to a Royalton ( twice to White Sands in Jamaica) and they have the right ideas to keep us busy or not. Would definitely recommend this resort and we will be back. I'm sure all the bugs will be worked out soon!

Occidental Punta Cana: Beautiful Location but poor customer service
We paid a significant amount to upgrade to First Club and were expecting special check-in and other premiere services. We didn't find out about all of the extra services until day 5 of our vacation. Not sure if we were talking to an inexperienced person or someone that just didn't care about customer service. Because of this, we were sitting in over-crowded areas, waiting forever for poor quality drinks and getting poor customer service whenever eating. The room we eventually got was very nice a[... read more]nd up to date. The beach and grounds are gorgeous but the constant swarming local vendors drove us away from the beach. I wouldn't rate this hotel as a 4 star until they sort out there customer service issues. You definitely need to pay the extra money to upgrade to get the 4th star.

Royalton CHIC Punta Cana: 3rd fantastic trip to CHIC
This was our 3rd time, Diamond club, and we had a great time again. Service, food, drinks, accommodations and the weather couldn’t be better! As a special bonus we were upgraded from ocean view to oceanfront. The staff are amazing...our evenings start with predinner cocktails with the wonderful Wilken and Ingrid at the Martini bar, I recommend a Bombay Martinin on the rocks, and then to see Alexandria who is the most amazing, always on the ball and in charge of whatever goes on at the Hunter[... read more] Steakhouse which is by far our favourite, I recommend the beet and feta salad and the Beef Tornedo was incredible. Joel and the new tall guy (can’t recall his name) are the life of the party at the casino bar. Joel used to be at the pool bar and it’s not the same without him. The beach bar has many great people, Lloana, Lomar (smiley), Richard...whether under a palapa or at the bar, service is great. For a special night, the private dinners are romantic and fun and Benjamin, the sommelier, will take great care of you. With Diamond club comes Butler service, Omar and Jimmy were superb and on the ball for they very few things we needed to ask for. Our only minor complaint, housekeeping and minibar staff seem forget or don’t have the items to restock what we use, luckily our butlers are there to take care of it. Everyone is super friendly and we look forward to going back.
