Iberostar Origin Laguna Azul: It is not good

I have a Cuban girlfriend and they checked us in and was fine. The next day they called the police and they came right in to the hotel and arrested here. She had to stay in a shitty Cuban jail till the next day. Ruined our whole holiday. Normally we stay in Havana but I thought we could try Veradero. What a mistake. I went to customer service about what they did and got to talk to Yuleisy Elfonso and she did not care in the least and the manager would not come and explain. Apart from this fias [... read more]co which ruined the week for both of us the food was awful. Basically I would certainly not advise anyone to go to the Laguna Azul.

Paradisus Princesa Del Mar: Amazing Resort

The resort was clean and well maintained. Staff were friendly. Reception was helpful although they were busy answering calls and you had to wait. We stayed in number 6 and had good service although the maid would forget to replenish our water. On one day she forgot to put towels. We stayed at resort 6 which I think is the higher end. We had a courtesy room in resort 2 and the curtains were missing hooks and the staff were not as friendly. The pool area and beach were excellent. They had great shows everyday. The bar at the lobby area and Piano Bar made great drinks. There was a variety of food and it was excellent.

Los Delfines: Great Resort

You could't get any closer to the beach. Rooms were clean with A/C. Bed was firm along with the pillows. Staff were amazing. Bartenders were able to comply to any order so long as the ingredients were available.

Sol Palmeras: Good Resort

Generally a good hotel. Bungalows are way better than the standard hotel rooms. Drinks are horrible and do not expect much when it comes to the food. Other than that, my experience was good. Also, for those booking destination weddings please be aware that you will only get a good deal if you have your wedding reception at the venue on the beach but you have to pay extra. They will only let you book a 2.5hrs reception at the hotel venues as they need those rooms for dinners and regular activitie [... read more]s. We were shocked when we heard this. 2.5hrs is not suffice for a wedding reception. I will say that the wedding coordinator did do her best to accommodate but I believe it is quite ridiculous to think wedding receptions are only 2.5hrs.

Occidental Arenas Blancas: Fell in love!

Barcelo Arenas Blancas was fantastic! Grounds were beautiful, food was good, best location, amazing beach of course, incredible view from balcony and staff were very friendly! Our 4th time to Varadero and we finally found our resort of choice! Can't wait to go back!

Hotel Los Cactus: DO NOT GO !!!

Horrible OLD dirty Motel,14 rooms viewed ALL had Mold and Mildew or A/C not working.Staff not friendly or helpful! Paid penalty to leave to another Motel.Ocean Vista Azul worth every penny!!! DON'T GO

Be Live Turquesa: great time

great beach, food was good,room not too bad,had a blocked toilet they fixed it in about 45 minutes,,,impressed.. too bad the hurricane damaged the palm trees badly,, all in all great time. no problem getting a lounger on the beach there lots of them. sometimes they would run out of mint leaves, no mohitoes!!!

Valentin El Patriarca Varadero: Lovely resort

We really enjoyed our trip. The rooms were an okay size and the bed was decent enough. Water pressure was lacking but we managed through the week. We had a problem with the air conditioning and they moved us to a new room on the second day. We had a couple of other minor hiccups but Guest Services was prompt to address. We tried all three a la carte restaurants and the no reservation required is a nice feature.. However, as Cuba is not known for its cuisine, we actually found the buffet a  [... read more]better option. We could peruse first and select a little of each item we liked without having to waste. The buffet area felt very cafeteria like though so there was no ambiance. A little music even might help. The quartet that played one night in the lobby bar and two nights in the piano bar while we were there, were EXCELLENT! A wide genre of music, excellent musicians and engaging entertainers. Our favourite part of the hotel stay! They were still recovering a tad from IRMA so there were a lot of pathways that were still unlit... Thank goodness for phone flashlights. The beach and the pool are well located and we enjoyed the spiralling layout of the resort as opposed to a large hotel, however if you are mobility challenged, it may be a problem. The staff for the most part were friendly, courteous and accommodating. If we went again, we would bring some disposable latex gloves for the cleaning staff. It was not nice to see them wringing makeshift mops (old towels draped across a squeegee) with their bare hands....I brought a small jar of dried chilies and hot sauce to add to our food and it certainly helped. The resort is located near the tip off the peninsula so if you want to go into Varadero proper it is a 20 CUC cab ride each way or you can take the (slow, crowded) hop on hop off bus for 5 CUC per day. Overall a great, safe, Cuba getaway!

Starfish Jibacoa: Great resort for a quiet vacation

This is the second time we have been there this year. The food was better now than in January. They repainted after the hurricane and have added nice little touches. The staff are always friendly and want to make sure you have a great vacation.

Valentin El Patriarca Varadero: Great resort

Dinning was exceptional for Cuba. All the specialty restaurants were above average for Cuba. Special thanks to Yamilka and all the girls at Mike's Cafe for the great service and great coffee. Always served with a smile and grat attitudes. Also Johan on the beach who set up our beach chairs in the morning. Staff was very friendly and courteous from the restaurants to buffet and front desk. I would recommend this hotel to anyone going to Cuba.

Occidental Arenas Blancas: Short and sweet

I had a superior room ocean view but a lot of trees were in my way of my view. King size bed flat screen tv with English channels. I have been to Cuba 6 times and this was one of the nicer rooms. The shower is outdated but functional! Clean. AC worked fine hot water worked fine. Buffet was ok. I didn't starve. Not a pool person but the pools did look a little cloudy. One thing I will complain about are the damn roosters that woke me up between 4 to 5 am every morning and won't shut up! My room w [... read more]as 4245. Staff very friendly. 1 bell boy between 2 hotels isn't that efficient. Walking distance to restaurants bars and night clubs. Had a great time :)

Occidental Arenas Blancas: i have been at a better Resort

it is needing new leader ship and new chef and the service need to learn how to work with people . the only nice thing i have to say the sunwing rep was great there answered all my questions and one of the entertainment person was great

Los Delfines: Enjoyable!

A smaller resort set in the middle of town right on the beach. Not like today's monolithic Giants this hotel is quaint but offers decent food rooms and drinks without the long line ups. By midweek u will know all the friendly staff and most of the guests if u want to or stay anonymous. It's your choice. Got to see a pod of four dolphins for about 10 mins hunting and jumping right from the bar. Rooms are clean and beds are acceptable. There are a lot of French Canadians there. Sol Varadero Beach: AMAZING RESORT YES

At first when we got there it was about 10:30 in the morning we waited until 4 pm for a room my first reaction was what did we get our self into, the room we got was horrible light swtich was not working and it was connected to other things that was not able to work. but the next day i went to the front to address the matter lets just say "if you don't speak up you won't get anywhere". This hotel is a very friendly welcoming resort. The tourists and the workers were both very friendly. The rooms were very clean and when we asked the front desk to repair the phone, it was done immediately.

Iberostar Origin Laguna Azul: Laguna Azul Hotel in Cuba Varadero

Unfortunately very upset lots of deficiencies, patio door didn't lock jammed water stains in the bedroom, bugs crawling, the upkeep of the hotel was very neglected, from the 6 months we had already visited this year in April 2017 seems they are letting the facility run down, probably the storm didn't help requested 3 times on 3 different occasions, always had to fight to get a decent room, Mattresses need major change basically sleeping on a box spring, very hard and sore back, Entertainment w [... read more]as Awesome, food was Awesome, great choices, water was very choppy, lots of poor palm trees cut, I really think the Iberostar is letting this facility run down to the grounds, lots of things from our last visit haven't been fixed, handles missing Poor beds, needs major renovations, tables wabbling, paint missing, sad itws a great place, Awesome location, I really think in April 2017 going to visit another Island instead of Cuba

The people in Cuba are great but the hotel needs a full make over. We had to change rooms 3 times as the noise woke us in the middle of the night would not allow us to sleep. Also our last room leaked when it rained. The towels we were provided with were hand towels and very stained. Multiple other problems...Regarding the food, well I don't want to look rice in the eye for awhile as this was the only thing I could eat most times. They need to learn who to cook and not put sauce on everything. T [... read more]he beach is beautiful but is full of people's sweet drinks which cause lots of bugs to fester. I was bite and had to see the doctor for an infection. This is caused by the "wonderful" tourists who think they can just make a mess and not clean up after themselves. Overall I will not return to cuba and will not recommend anyone to go there. This fourth trip was my last.

Blau Varadero: Blau Varadero....Amazing Resort

A beautiful resort, stunning architecture, with very friendly and well trained staff. The room was an ocean side upgrade and well worth it. Spacious, colourful and a stunning ocean view. Restaraunts were good (especially the a la carte's) The pool was huge and a four leaf clover shape, very clean and had lots of poolside seating, The beachside bar was very rustic, and was in a remote setting. Sanctuary at Grand Memories Varadero: Great Entertainment - Food not so much

Considering the hurricane I'm sure the efforts to reopen were valiant. However our room smelled of mould and we didn't want to complain but we should have. At home all our luggage still smells of mould. Despite being in the Sanctuary side we found the food in our exclusive restaurant for breakfast and lunch - sometimes dinner was really quite terrible. Some dishes were okay but others Over cooked, raw and just bad. Others we met also got sick, the runs etc. Whenever we ate off resort on an excursion or in Havana or Veradero we had no trouble with food quality. It's not a supply issue it's a preparation and cleanliness issue. Someone please give the cooks a foodsafe course. I loved the skilled musicians and entertainment, the musical and fun loving nature of the staff. Cuba has wonderful people. The resort otherwise was quite nice. Drinks were fine. They can't make a proper martini though. I think we will stick to Mexico in the future. Hopefully things improve in the future. Just not interested in getting sick on vacation.
