The resort and staff were excellent, they made our vacation a dream come true. The food selection, drinks and service were topnotch, an example to other resorts to follow. I'll only travel to this chain of resorts in the future. Our special thanks go out too Hector, Menfis and Jose (beach bar). These staff members ensured we had the ultimate vacation!

Big and Beautiful
I do not think my husband and I have ever stayed at a cleaner, better cared for property...which is amazing given its size. Luckily we were at the Ambar 2. Dinners were a let down though and could be improved.

Wonderful adults section
Everything was great about the resort, all staff was very friendly, always smiling.
The grounds are kept very clean.
Parents bit of seaweed on the beach each morning but they were out cleaning.
A little disappointed with air transit.

Great resort!
This is a very large complex so it may not be for everyone.
However it was a fantastic "fit" for us
Staying in the adults only Ambar section gives you the coziness of a smaller resort but you are minutes away/tram ride away from the selection of restaurants and entertainment that the adjoining properties offer.
We stayed on the Ambar 1 section and would do so again. We were close to the beach and pool as well as the lobby and a good selection of restaurants to eat at. The room was spacious and [... read more]clean and we were comfortable and happy with it.
The food was very good. Better than expected actually.
The beach was beautiful, great swimming.
We took the advice of others and emailed our dinner requests about two weeks ahead of our trip. We we arrived they had booked four restaurants for us. We quickly went to guest services as we wanted a la carte dinner for all seven night and they were more than happy to accommodate us with the other three nights.
This resort exceeded our expectations and we would return again!

Awesome Adult-Only Resort
This resort is beautiful inside and out. The grounds are well-manicured and staff are constantly keeping things tidy/clean. The beach is gorgeous and plenty of chairs and palapas. The buffet and a la carte restaurants were tasty and a lot of variety. This resort is perfect whether you want a quiet/romantic holiday or have a more lively time, since there are an abundance of activities and entertainment to choose from.

Beyond Expectations!
My husband and I travelled with my elderly mother for two weeks to the Bahai Principe Don Pablo Luxury Ambar resort. Mom travels with a walker and we had no problems. We stayed in the Ambar 1 section and it was the best vacation we have had with my mom. The resort was well maintained and run by friendly, happy staff who always went the extra step to make all of us feel like pampered family. Buffet and restaurant food was top notch and varied. No restaurant reservation problems...though you can r[... read more]eserve ahead on line for the popular restaurants, we had no issues. All the extra touches were there: special coffees, crepes, tequila bar, fresh fruit served at the pool, Zumba fitness every day, mariachi band on Mexican night, chocolate cart in the lobby just for fun, beach party, trolley rides to rest of resort, music for dancing in lobby every night. Beach area is large and well maintained and even has wooden boardwalks up to designated wheelchair shade huts throughout beach. Definitely pick this one...the Don Pablo Luxury Ambar lives up to its name!

Best vacation in a long time!!
My husband and I stayed at the GBP Ambar from Feb 6-20th and we didn’t want to leave. I was worried when I read some of the negative reviews, but we never had a bad moment there.
Rooms: We stayed in the Ambar 2 and it was bright and lovely and spacious. Everything worked and although the bed was a little too hard the extra pillows helped. The AC was perfect temperature control. We had a view over the empty field which was lovely as we had a great time watching the egrets and local birds swoopi[... read more]ng and hunting and hearing their calls each afternoon. Much nicer that hearing the less pleasant wildlife on the pool side. We liked the walk up to our room and around the property to the beach; it worked off that extra helping of dessert! If we didn’t want to walk, almost always there was a tram to pick you up. We waved them away more often than not as the walk was so beautiful.
Staff: Cannot say enough about the staff in the hotel. Every single person from our lovely Anyela Calderon at the front desk, Albania in Guest services, our housekeeper, the ladies in the lobby bar area – especially the afternoon shift – even the groundskeepers was warm, welcoming, and helpful. To those who complain that the staff’s English isn’t very good, I must comment that very few have any formal language training or higher levels of learning.
Food: Wow! Wonderful food at the buffets and at the restaurants. Yes there were some problems with some hot items not being very hot at the buffets, for instance the scrambled eggs were almost always cold. But hey! It’s a holiday – don’t like it? try something else. Each of the specialty restaurants that we tried had something outstanding about it. The Don Pablo – lobster; El Olivo – the mushroom soup; Portofino – the chocolate pudding cake!! We went there 3 times just for that! Santa Fe – good Mexican; Rodizo – carnivore’s dream. The only one we didn’t like was the Mikado – and I really blame lack of training for the staff. The teppanyaki was all over done – 20 minutes on the grill for the rice? And then we were re-directed to “go over there†rather than being seated or served. Again this is a training problem - the staff was friendly when we got their attention
Beach: Oh my. What a lovely beach. Soft sand and lots of shade and that water. I miss it so much. Yes the towel game was well on, but there was no way I was going to get up early just to place a towel. We NEVER had a problem getting a lounger no matter what time we got there. There was always something available and the beach staff was so helpful in moving things around for us. The Ambar section was much nicer and less crowded that the other beach fronts.
Other: Do bring your probiotics and electrolyte solution. We both got the travellers trots in the first week but think how differently you are eating, drinking different water, way more booze, lots of sun – all of these can and will affect your digestion.
We did find the shops and the spa were way too expensive especially for Canadians as the prices were all in US dollars. Do be prepared to bargain in the shops in the Pueblo Principe, There are no prices on the items and the price you are quoted is easily double what you should pay.
The excursion we took with PuntaCana Mike was fabulous. If you only do only thing while away definitely pick this one. No long travel times and great info about the island as well as chocolate and rum tasting! What could be better?
All in all we loved our time there and we hope to be back as soon as we can.

Great people, great resort
The whole resort was just massive. We stayed in the Ambar 2. It was eerily quiet, but had newer rooms. The adults only portion was very good. My suggestion would be to walk around the entire grounds (all four resorts) the first few days to get your barrings.
The room was always clean and the bar stocked. Turn-down service was on time too.
My one suggestion would be to get a larger variety of music. By the third day I'd heard enough "Stand By Me".
The staff are very friendly and always helpful.

Where do I start? Well for one the resort at the Ambar is beautiful the grounds are gorgeous, the beach couldn't ask for better the only complaint would be that as an adult only resort the entertainment is very minimal everything shut down at 11pm if you want to see entertainment you have to go the other resort where's there kids which to me it doesn't make any sense the reason we paid more to stay at an all adult resort is to be with no kids. Also the pool closes early (6pm) :( . We went to 4 a [... read more]la carte restaurant which they were all excellent all in all we did enjoy our stay great friendly staff

Excellent...but with a few letdowns...
I really liked the LGBPA..food was good, staff were awesome, layout was great. Though I was disappointed to see things like $28USD sunblock and $11USD Lays chips. Wifi was equally expensive...$50 for a week? Yeah I pay that a month in Canada, and this is the DR? Lots of little clawbacks...not my fave all-inclusive, but certainly still pretty good...

We stayed in Ambar 1 Jan 30 - Feb 13.
First the pros - beautiful beach and water for the most part. Seaweed was very bad the first few days but the remainder of the stay the seaweed was minimal.
Carlos, the assistant manager is stellar. Eddy, the bartender was a doll.
All the remaining staff were polite but reserved. Nothing wrong with that. Guess we're used to Mexico where the staff are more outgoing. With the exception of the [... read more]lobby staff, English speaking staff were rare. I speak a little Spanish but when I had an issue, I tried to conveying the problem to some of the cleaning staff and the two staff looked at each other, shared a joke and laughed.
Now the cons, and there are many.
Our air conditioning didn't work. We called the front desk three times and each time we were assured it would be fixed but it was a mediocre fix at best. Most nights I slept on the sofa under the fan.
Horrid sewage smell in the bathroom. Again we complained and the bathroom smelled like bleach so I believe they must've poured some down the drains.
Some days the minibar was filled and some days it wasn't.
Our patio door did not lock.
Some times we got hand towels, sometimes there were none and we had to call room service. Only once did we get washcloths.
One day we had half a roll of toilet paper, the next day we had 4.
We only used the tub twice as hot water was non existent in the evening. We were told that the boilers were being fixed. The last morning of our stay the shower water was so hot that it was tough to stand underneath the spray of water. We couldn't adjust the temperature.
In order to get a front row beach chair with shade you have to get to the beach before 6:30 am. The first few days were very windy so we resorted to the pool. Same issue there and plus it is some loud there!!!
Within two days my dh had tummy troubles. Being seasoned travellers we are well prepared with Imodium etc. I got hit with the same thing a few days later. It was my birthday and I spent all day in bed (and mostly in the bathroom!). All I can say is thank goodness for gravol suppositories! The rest of the trip I ate sparingly since I consistently felt off. Typically I never get sick so I thought this was telling of a resort issue. We discussed this with other guests and only ONE other couple did not have similar sick days/gastrointestinal issues. We spoke with a fellow who said two of his group were hospitalized.
This leads to the food. We are used to the all inclusive resort food so no surprise that overall the food was mediocre. Our best time was at the Sante Fe and Ambar 2 buffet. I think overall that quality control is an issue. The resort is too big and trying to serve too many people. This latter part was very apparent in Don Pablo restaurant. The food was good but we felt rushed to eat and get out as quickly as possible. The Ambar 1 buffet seemed to have a lot of flies on and around the food. And the cold food didn't seem cold enough and the hot food not hot enough. The last week I survived on bread, plain pasta and the little candies at the exit.
I believe the liquor is not premium. Oftentimes, when we asked for a piña colada they would make them without alcohol and when we asked for rum they'd add the equivalent of a teaspoon. The best piña coladas were in the Ambar lobbies. Although there is coffee in the rooms, you couldn't find "real" coffee early in the morning.
In the end we had an okay time, mostly because we enjoyed the beach and beautiful water. Would we go back? Most likely not.
We've stayed in 3 stars and we've stayed in 5 stars. Bahia Principe Ambar is not a 5 star. For the price we paid we expected better.
Room Tip: We stayed in Ambar 1 building 67 overlooking the pool. It was always quiet after 6 pm but noisy during the day

Great resort
We stayed at the Bahia 6 years ago and LOVED it, this time we were a little desapointed in the food, there was no variarity at the buffet, the "À la carte" were not the best. We have a feeling they have gotten too big and the quality expected with a 5 stars has gone down.

Amazing resort
We stayed the week of Jan 29 to Feb 5, 2015. This is a wonderful adults only resort , extremely clean, fantastic food and well looked after rooms. Our only concern is the dinner reservation practice. This should be eliminated as it takes a great deal of time to complete. Guest services blamed the lack of availability for location and time slots on guests completing this on line prior to arrival, however when visiting the restaurants at preferred times, they were half empty and people were still [... read more]being turned away. I would suggest no reservations and availability be left to first come first serve.
Our only other issue was the towel game which seems to be a practice at most resorts. People should not be allowed to leave a towel on a chair at 6:00 am and not show up at the pool until 3:00 pm.
This is a very irritating practice for those wishing to enjoy the pool facility.
Other than these issues we were extremely pleased with our stay and would come back again
