Melia Caribe Beach Resort: Good Vacation
We stayed at this hotel in 2025 and had loved it so much went again this year. We stayed in the same room style and were Level and stayed in Level Grand Suite room. The hotel grounds were beautiful, rooms are nice and the resort in general is very clean and well kept. We found all staff, except for the Level Lounge, to be friendly and helpful. Check in was an extremely long wait and process as there was just no urgency by any of them and we were the only waiting couple to check in. They [... read more]made changes to the Level since last year that were not clearly advertised and were disappointing. This may be because we booked in 2025 and they decided to implement changes in 2026…uncertain. But the changes were not communicated to us until check in. The Level Lounge concierge was pretty much non existent. Could no longer make reservations there and had to line up between certain hours at certain spots. The Level restaurants no longer had al la carte and were only buffet. All restaurants have good food, with the exception of the Italian. Both meals there were bad….the last one we couldn’t even eat. It was a mushy pasta ball. Pool chairs at the level pool….we never reserved one with a towel and were able to get one most days, although a few days it was difficult and had to drag from different spots. The main pool by the beach…no way you were getting a chair unless you got up in the middle of the night. The biggest disappointment was the status of glasses at all bars. There was no organization or systems for glasses and they were always scrambling to find a glass for a drink. Sometimes you got a martini in a paper cup or a low ball glass and sometimes you got a beer in an extra large wine glass or a glass mason jar at the pool bar….doesn't matter what room or package you book, you should get a proper glass/cup. They need a better glass system. We went to the beach once, but found that the pool and beach area was too busy, and there was never an opportunity to get a chair so we just ended up walking the beach. Overall, we would go back there and we would go Level, despite the changes, for these reasons..the lobby, the grounds, the room, the Level pool (the big pool at the beach is just packed and a free for all), the Level Buffet, again, so your not in the craziness of the main buffet, and the room service. There’s no fee for Level, so we enjoyed coffee and fruit and pastries every morning on our balcony over looking the garden view. Can’t beat that. If further changes are made to the Level, then for the price we would look elsewhere and probably go adult only.

Senator Puerto Plata Hotel: Great value resort
This is a great resort in many ways , nice mid-size resort with multiple pools to please all and a decent beach . The food was great with lots of options and never to long of a wait time. The bars and staff were great with staff like David at the pool bar and Erica n Christy at sports bar working very hard and quickly so wait times for a drink were reasonable. The entertainment crew like monkey n skinny n crew did a great job getting people playing games who wanted to and miss Blondie got the k[... read more]ids enjoying games. The shows and beach party kept the night time moving along. If intrested in water activities in the ocean take a walk down the beach to the dive hut and talk with Chichi or Felix for a great diving experience or jetski rental or tubing or kayaking. This is a solid 4+ star , has everything you need unless you need huge crystal chandeliers everywhere and extravagant decors and crazy expensive alcohol to make you happy then pay double and go elsewhere . This is a family resort and have been here 2 times now with and without a group and have enjoyed both and looking at returning again.
Majestic Elegance resort is beautiful. Beach is beautiful and there was no or very little seaweed. However, we had a horrible experience when we first arrived to the hotel. We arrived on February 23rd at 21:30 and after initial check in process we were told our room is on the second floor. We booked a ‘swim up’ room. We booked more than 6 months in advance to make sure we get a swim up room. We paid in full. It took us over an hour to persuade two ppl at the reception that we booked a swim up ro[... read more]om. Finally, they saw it in a computer that yes, in fact, we booked a swim up room. They were not professional at all and there was no apology. We spoke to customer service representative the next day and he was apologetic about the behaviour of front desk employees.
Aquamarine was a lovely adults-only resort within Bahia Principe Grand. The pool was clean and alive with just the right amount of activity and and Bavaro Beach was stunning and only a 10 minute walk or quick ride on their resort transport. Having 7 à la cartes included was amazing and there were so many options to choose from. None of the restaurants disappointed and had good service and were beautifully decorated. The resort was clean and well maintained, our room was great. We will definitely[... read more] be back.

VH Gran Ventana Beach Resort: Very small and dated but good price
This resort is very dated but clean and the food was ok. The beach was spectacular though. The drinks were all bottom shelf and only wine & beer served at restaurants.
Odd that they took the towels out in the morning but didn’t replace until late afternoon.
Entertainment was not good, terrible sound system.
But for the money it’s not a bad deal.

Occidental Caribe: Pleasantly surprised!
The facility was very clean. They accommodated my food allergies (gluten). A wonderful choice of food for all three meals. The Japanese à la cart was fabulous! We have been to the DR 15 times-first time beef was not an option on the grill. Only pork, chicken and calamari. Some of the bars had watered down drinks. Our room was not fully stocked-you had to request things. Other patrons did not have that issue. We will definitely return, excellent beach!

Select Sosua Adults Only, Trademark by Wyndham All Inclusive: Wonderful vacation
My husband and I were pleasantly surprised by our stay at Select Casa Marina By Wyndham. The resort is well laid out, our room was very clean and comfortable and the service was excellent! Staff were all friendly and went over and above to ensure you were getting great service. The only issue we had was the amount of stairs that were needed to get around if you have an[... read more]y mobility issues this resort would not be for you. There are no elevators and just to get from the Select(adult) side to the main resort lobby there are stairs

Cofresi Palm Beach and Spa Resort: Cofresi Palm Beach
A little older built resort, very big, getting around is by shuttle bus or walking in short distances.
Beautiful palms and lush greenery. Many pools, the best is the adult only. Some rooms had problems with the air conditioning not working, the cofresi part of the resort would need more renovation.

Barcelo Bavaro Palace: Short and kinda sweet…
Solo traveler looking for something easy. I did have a quick stay and honestly, kinda grateful. The beach is stunnnnnnning and very well maintained, just be prepared to fight for your chair. They are all gone well before 8:30 AM. The walk to the lobby is a walk, be prepared. I checked in late and there wasn’t an anyone to show me to my room. With multiple trips back to the lobby bc I was lost and couldn’t access the door, I was exhausted lol. Room was ok, but definitely needed cleaning! I do tra[... read more]vel with my own sheets and thank god lol. The hot tub on the balcony was disgusting and I didn’t use it. Food was ok, didn’t travel for the food so the reviews were right, it’s hit or miss depending where you eat.
Honestly - the sun and weather made up for everything else and the peace and quiet of my quick getaway was so needed.

Bahia Principe Explore Punta Cana: All in all a great trip.
We enjoyed our time at the Bahia Principe Grand Punta Cana. Food was really good, drinks at lobby were excellent, pool bar mixed drinks were hit and miss. Cleaning staff did a great job keeping our room. The resort was very clean including the public washrooms. Buffets had a good assortment of food and was fresh, our a la carts were also very good. We really enjoyed the show at the Fantasia garden circus although we thought it was an a al cart and later charged $50 a head. Be aware of that. [... read more] As two friends on vacation, we requested two double beds and had to share a king.. was given a nicer room and was told to go next day to see if any double rooms available. That caused some grief. It was hard to find beach chairs at beach and multiple pools which left others having to lay on the concrete or sand which is not cool. Most people didn't show up all day to use them because they saved chairs in multiple places. Signs were posted against saving chairs but there was nothing to back it up. I think that was our biggest frustration. Front desk staff wasn't very helpful with booking a la carts or with issues involving our room, they lacked on their customer service skills. Other then that I still feel it was a nice vacation and would recommend the resort with a heads up. I would love to give a 5 out of 5 but due to the few issues we did have, I cant.

Viva V Samana by Wyndham: Beautiful property but....
This is obviously my own personal observations and thoughts:
Viva V is a beautiful resort on a wonderful stretch of beach where you can walk either direction for hours and a lovely 25 minutes (bus) drive from Samana (AZS) Airport (a still quaint and small airport).
The layout of the resort is easy to navigate and the low rise buildings have rooms that are clean with comfortable bed and clean, decent bedsheets. The rooms that have the pools, these pools are very rarely used and they are rea[... read more]lly cold. Bungalow area (across the drive from main building) are nestled nicely in gardens with a small sitting are with bar of their own.
Amenities for shower in the rooms are minimal, so bring your own and the bathrobes are ready to be used more as rags than as robes. The towels are good but housekeeping tend to limit the numbers and which towels they will provide (very inconsistent)...and that's where it ends!
Our biggest concern was the food / buffet. Although the al la carte restaurants were decent it could be hard to get a reservation at an early time so the buffet was a good alternative for many meals. The service at the specialized restaurants was good and efficient however, beware the beef (throughout the resort actually), ensure it is cooked.!
The Buffet; the floor was deadly slippery, didn't look like they cleaned it, food was not kept at correct temperatures and left out longer than what IMO, would be considered safe, also repetitive and a bit dull. Granted, I think they try.
There never seemed to be enough dinnerware / glassware and what was being used was often cracked, chipped or dirty looking. There was a constant battle for locating tables that were set (unless you line up when buffet first opens for the meal), and then the tables were often not set in their entirety. I actually saw staff reusing some table sets that didn't look like they had been used ?♀️. There does not seem to be enough staff, training, supervision etc. or hygienic practices in general (even with the availability of hand sanitizer).
Drinks were good as was the coffee. I even found the wine rather pleasant! As for the water; this resort does NOT use plastic bottle so make sure you bring your own. They use a system called Vevo throughout the resort that allows you access to filtered and good water. I did not find this an issue... except when the system lost power and there was no water to be had. They do have cartons of water should you require.
We did lose power off and on throughout the week, electrics, water, WIFI etc. but the generators would pick up the slack fairly quickly.
The pool would be considered small by many but IMO it was not an issue. It was kept clean and there were no real issues in finding loungers unless you wished a pad for the lounger, then that was an issue. The loungers are not comfortable so the pad was extremely beneficial (more of these would help the situation). The outside towels were always available.
In general; I would not classify this as a 4 star resort. ? This resort has great potential but with not enough resources and IMO poor hygiene practices I would not be returning. That said, I would recommend this location but be prepared, and if you have a sensitive stomach / gut, I would not recommend. While we were there my self and many others fell prone to gastroenteritis. This is NOT pleasant albeit the onsite Doctor and Nurse were great and were being worked off their feet with these illnesses.?♀️
The whole resort seemed to be a bit disorganized and at times felt chaotic (again could be lack of staff)
The staff in general were very pleasant and helpful however, this is a very TIP based resort, more so than many others I have been to even though we do tip. Here, without the tips, one didn't receive consistent quality of service.
If you wish to exchange USD, they will for pesos, and they won't even give smaller USD in exchange for a larger denomination of USD?♀️(hotel policy)!!
Also, there is a high percentage of French Canadian who visit this resort compared to English speaking. This was a a first for me. So, be prepared to try and speak more than just Spanish. ?
An issue I do have are the smokers. Most were very courteous however, please stop butting out in the grass, beach ground etc. The remnants are not biodegradable and it is filthy making the resort look nasty! ?

Serenade All Suites Adults Only Resort: Disappointed at Serenade (10 Days).
Where do I begin.....Check in we were informed the resort was sold out, however if we wanted an upgrade it would be possible for a side deal of 100$US Cash and we had to sign a waiver stating we got a free upgrade, we were told many times that if we had any issues with the room to only contact the 2 at front desk that we made the deal with.(something shady going on)
Staff...Not friendly, no hello's, no conversation, if we asked for anything, it felt like we were inconveniencing them, they wer[... read more]e extremely rude and very pushy around the pool to fill out a google review about the property and staff they wanted 5 stars, I declined on several occasion's stating ill do it later.
Entertainment(Pool and evenings) was not communicated properly, it was extremely difficult to know what event was going on IF any. Dominican Independence day was celebrated while we were there. If it wasn't for the loud music on the beach we would not have known about the display of coconut drinks and food being served.
Drinks and food....All were hit and miss. Drinks were made differently at every bar some way too strong and some frozen cocktails not frozen at all, not all alcohol were available they would run out of JD and not get another bottle but tell you its coming. same with beer Corona only available in certain bar, or for certain people.
FOOD....If you like food do not go to this resort....Every meal was a guess if it was going to be good or horrible, same restaurants different days food would be total opposite....4th floor bar, Day one Fish Taco's were amazing every other time we tried RAW Fish....Mexican for lunch NO Guac. Gourmet Restaurant....Plastic in the food, and a paper Bar code in the Potatoes....
Breakfast same everyday no changes, no themes, definitely not what I'm used to for the money we paid....And try to get any drinks for breakfast, wed be done our meal before we got coffee or Juice(NOT REAL ORANGE JUICE) looked more like powdered and tasted like it.
Don't get me wrong I've been to Punta Cana many times....I love the area, however this resort was the worst I have been too, I will not go back, I also suggest they lower the star Rating on this resort to a 2. ALSO Bring your own pillows, what they supply is atrocious.
Positives......Met some nice people and the weather was hot and sunny.

HM Alma De Bayahibe Hotel: Small resort = great vacation.
We were well received on Feb 21, 2026 at approx 23h00 and were assigned our rooms. Issue with the bed that night but the next day we were moved to another room which was in good condition and met our needs. (great service from the reception Joneisy Sarmiento)
Room was very spacious and well maintained, bed comfortable, bar fridge also included. Buffet was excellent and good service from the staff.
The variety and quality of the food was good for a small resort. The grounds were well maintained and clean, beautiful and clean pools were available everyday overseeing the ocean. Access to the ocean to snorkle or scuba dive is available via a ladder which by the way is repaired (2nd step). We saw a sea turtle, whale and other beautiful sea creatures.
The food truck was opened only for one day as it was replaced with a new unit. During this time food was available at the bar area. Food was good and of good quality. (hamburgers, fries, onions rings, chicken wings and nachos with cheese etc.)
Bar service was mediocre so was the quality of the beer and drinks. If you wanted higher end beer or alcool (Jack Daniels, Baileys or canned or bottle beer) a fee was required on your part.
Overall, our vacation was great and we do plan to return to the resort to enjoy what they have to offer.
