Platinum Yucatan Princess: Nice and relaxing adults-only resort
Overall this hotel is very nice. I would rate it as a 4 star. It's a smaller resort which some prefer. The rooms are updated and kept clean (no issues with toilets or showers etc.) The food at the resort is pretty great. The buffet quality and selection is on par for a 4 star resort. The a la carte restaurants have awesome food and it's nice that they don't require reservations. Aroma and Tao were our favourites. You have the option to use the restaurants at the sister resort however you must ma[... read more]ke a reservation in advance to use them. The entertainment staff at the resort are awesome and so kind. We encountered several lovely servers, resort staff and cleaners during our stay however we had an unpleasant experience with the Plaza bar tender, Daniel. He was incredibly rude, did not listen to your order, rolled his eyes and made comments when you asked for anything specific. It was almost hard to believe he was in the service industry. He gave the impression that he hated what he was doing. Other than the one minor issue, the resort is great and the grounds are beautiful. This resort does not have a good beach, however you can travel just a short distance down the beach to the sister resort and use their chairs. We didn't stay in a room with a swim-out room but after seeing them and how convenient they are, we would recommend upgrading to the swim-out. Drinks can be served right to your swim-out area. For the right price I would definitely return.

Blue Bay Grand Esmeralda: Great stay
The hotel is so much nicer than it looks in pictures. The grounds were clean and tropical. As soon as you walked in they offered a drink with the friendliest smile. All the workers were there to help and lend a hand. The rooms were nice however the air conditioning wasn't able to be changed. The pools were clean and the water was a perfect temperature. The food was always really good and there was always many options. Overall I had a blast!

Blue Bay Grand Esmeralda: Blue Bay Grand Esmeralda
The beach was horrible, full of seaweed in the water as apparently the machine that cleans the ocean was broken during high peak season. There was a 24 hour bar open which lead to the problem of vacationers coming to their hotel rooms at all hours of the night and early morning hours. The doors and hallways are very loud and do not keep out the outside noise. Only had 1 night of actual complete sleep as I was unfortunate to encounter families who let their children bounce balls against the room [... read more]walls and individuals got so drunk they pretended to be security as they locked themselves out of the room. The buffet lacked flavour, but the a la cartes were delicious and clearly the chefs at the resort do know how to cook good food. The rooms were nicely cleaned but the sliding door was broken and some lights needed to be replaced in the room. The servers in the restaurants were all great and cheerful. The individuals arranging the bookings for the a la cartes are not so helpful as if they encounters problems with booking they do not take any responsibility and simply respond that's how we do things in mexico. We unfortunately had to go above to the concierge to resolve this issue and get reservations for the restaurants. There was also not much night life after the show at night. Usually a band played from 10:30 - 11:00 pm most nights. Some nights after the band their was a DJ playing until 1 am. At the wedding the DJ ended at 10 pm and was not playing much of the music that the bride had requested, which she had to continually approach the DJ for him to change the music to what she requested. The wedding party and guests were also separated into many different buildings across the resort regardless of having gone through a travel agent for the booking. I also had requested and was told that I would be getting an adjoining room with my parents, when I got to the hotel I did not only have a completely separate room, it was also on a completely different floor and the resort did nothing to change this as it was requested 1 year in advance when I booked. The pools were nice as they offered a good ledge all the way around, however many tiles in the pool were broken and our feet a bodies were cut numerous times as well as the lounge chairs were broken and when you informed the staff they did nothing and left the broken chairs there. A relative also ordered room service as they are physically disabled and could not get out of their room on the day that it was pouring rain due to being in a wheel chair, they did not send a car to transport this relative to the food areas so they ordered room service. The room service not only did not show up but when they called they said it was coming an hour after ordering. An additional hour went by and they called back down and were told they had no order for that room anywhere and no food showed up. The relative was also diabetic and the resort did nothing until the bride went to the Manager of the hotel to complain. He offered free lunch room service the next day, which is pointless as it was the day of her wedding and we were not there to have room service during the day. They did offer a food appetizer platter and a bottle of wine that they sent up to the room as a form of apology. I personally would not go back to this particular resort as I have gone to many other places for much cheaper then what I paid and received better service and quality.

The Fives Beach Hotel and Residences Playa Del Carmen: Great for Families!
Very beautiful and clean grounds, food was excellent. Our room was great for our family of 3, had everything we needed for our 18 month old (crib, booster seat, change table, stroller). The Essence section is nice and quiet, easy to put our 18 month old down for naps and to bed. Hotel consists of 18 villas and many pools, very spread out, lots of walking so having a stroller was great. Wouldn't be the best for groups as all the pool sections and restaurants are fairly small, not a problem fo[... read more]r a family or small group, but would be difficult to find seating for a large group at the same pool or restaurant. We loved all of the restaurants, very good food, and nice simple kids menu options at each place.

Sandos Caracol Nature Resort and Water Park: A "Mixed" Review
Sandos Caracol Eco Resort was lovely overall. The staff were friendly and efficient consistently; we were impressed.
What we we were NOT impressed with was being woken every single morning at around 5 am (!) as staff arrived for work, often chatting loudly and often pushing noisy carts.
Our rooms were classified as "A1" yet we felt very substandard - and, needless to say, absolutely exhausted!
To be fair, I do want to give 4 -> 5 stars but this impacted us hugely and makes it difficult to [... read more]actually recommend the experience to others.

Dreams Puerto Morelos Resort and Spa: A Step Up
Everything exceeded expectations, views, facilities, common areas, pools, the room it was all great. Staff are awesome and always helpful and friendly, never had to wait for anything and the food was the best we have had. Everything exceed expectations and can not complain about anything. We went knowing the beach was not great, but they try and that our "ocean view" was decent but not a "true ocean view" because we upgrade to preferred.

Grand Sirenis Riviera Maya: fair resort
the food, rooms, hotel staff were great. the grounds were nice except for the sidewalks which have uneven concrete with 2 inch spaces inbetween that causes tripping hazards.i seen a couple people stub there toes and I tripped once myself. the beach is way to rocky and not much swimming area. the seaweed was terrible and they would try to clean it up in the morning when people were arriving and the smell was gross. the entertainment at the sky bar was bad from 7-9 almost put you to sleep and the m[... read more]usic after 9 wasn't any better. the lobby bar is boring and the sports bar was full of kids. not everyone likes to go to bed by 9, they need better entertainment. Ocean Riviera Paradise: Beautiful resort!
The resort and its staff was just about as close to perfect as you can get. The food was amazing, the rooms were spotless and the staff were always smiling, polite and courteous.
The resort is quite large but spread out, so you never feel like it's crowded or busy at any time.
The only thing I didn't like was the time share salesmen pressure, but that is only in the lobby area and they respect when you say no.
We will definitely go back again

Ocean Coral Riviera Cancun: Nice resort
The food was good in the Buffet, la Petite Creperie (which you are allowed at but it seems like you are not). The shows & entertainment staff were great. If you’re a wine drinker you’ll be expected to buy wine as the house red or white is horrible. The rooms were real nice & cleaned well daily. I’m pretty low maintenance & I’ve never paid so much for an all inclusive so I expected more. Next time I’ll go back into Playa to a 3 Star & I’ll be better off. PS- the Japanese restaurant wa[... read more]s great the 1st time & average the 2nd time. The Ocean had experienced toumoil so the beach was a disappointment...full of seaweed.
The hotel was great as usual. Our third time there. The landscaping is beautiful. The room service was good, the service was good and the variety of food was excellent at the buffet house. The staff always greeting us with a smile. The star Friends were very friendly specially Luis, Liliana, Fernando in the entertainment field, always ready to please. The hotel help me celebrated my birthday, too. We, love the pool, flowers, birds. TRS Yucatan: Resort Heaven
We highly recommend this exclusive resort! The service was impeccable; everyone made such an effort to make us feel special and well attended to. Two gentlemen at Los Rocco’s pool bar named Arcadia and Jose made us exceptional habanero margaritas, even bringing us hotter ones to sample from their very own gardens! We found this so very thoughtful and speaks volumes of their attentiveness to exceptional service! The butler service was exemplary, Santiago, Edgar, and Rapheal at 62 villa were all[... read more] top notch staff members. Every one of our needs were met expediently and with a smile. They all made us feel truly welcomed. Tania at the pool/main lobby was also a sweetheart and deserves acknowledgement for her hard work.
The food at all the a la carte restaurants was delicious! Helios and El Gaucho were our favourites and do not miss the cabaret dinner show at the chic restaurant as it was spectacular! There is such great talent at this show.
With other ventures to other resorts with my celiac disease/allergy, I have had major issues meeting my nutritional needs. Everywhere we ventured to on this resort made a huge effort to ensure I was assisted throughout my order selection and I highly appreciated the efforts to embrace my dietary issues.
We would 100% revisit this resort and will recommend all our friends and family to visit such an unbelievable retreat!
Ps the spa was worth every penny, amazing massages in such a peaceful setting (make sure to find the 2 for 1 deals)

Bahia Principe Explore Coba: I will go next year for a third time
This is our second time at the Bahia Principe. The first time we stayed at the Tulum part of the resort and this year we stayed at the Coba part. The entire resort is beautiful. The grounds are meticulously landscaped, the myriad of pools and Jacuzzi areas are lovely. The public rest rooms are ample and spotless, not to mention attractive. The staff are friendly, not pushy like is some other areas of the Caribbean. The rooms are clean and spacious and nicely decorated. The eight a la cart[... read more]e restaurants have fabulous cuisine. It is a large resort but the frequent electric trams take you to where you want to go in a matter of minutes. You can walk as well but the trams are very convenient. This resort is located near the Maya ruins in Tulum a 15 minute drive away. There is a large children's pool with slides and water fountains and the children we saw there looked like they were having a ball. This is a 5 star resort. The beaches along the Mayan Riviera have been suffering from an abundance of seaweed but workers kept busy hauling it away. Can't help mother nature.

Bahia Principe Escape Sian Ka'an: Wonderful resort, excellent pampering with just a few quibbles
This hotel had stellar reviews, and the encouragement of our travel agent, Nicolle, was what we needed to book. We were very, very happy with this trip and the resort.
The resort is absolutely lovely, and as it's in a complex with several other resorts, we often remarked how much prettier the landscaping and grounds and layout were at the Sian Ka'an than the other resorts. You feel like you're in a manicured jungle.
The facilities were lovely. The a la carte dining at Frutos de la Mar and[... read more] Alux was INCREDIBLE. The Maiko restaurant was absolutely abysmal, as was all their sushi and Japanese cuisine at the buffet (you can find my Maiko review on TripAdvisor).
Overall, we really enjoyed the buffet, though the food was noticeably better the first week than the second. There is a significant lack of Mexican food on offer (just a few dishes except on Mexican night) and we would have loved to see more.
We found the beds firm but comfortable. There are some quirks in some of the rooms -- our first room had a bathroom door that wouldn't stay open and the gap between the double beds that they make up into a king was very humpy. We moved to a ground floor room a third of the way into our stay, and the bed was exponentially more comfy and the bathroom door stayed open just fine. Water takes a while to warm up -- not a big deal.
The pools were always clean, though not heated (not that you need a heated pool when it's 30c outside). We enjoyed the pool by the Cenote snack bar best, and could usually find two lounge chairs under the tree canopy so we weren't fried by the sun all day. It was relaxing, and Martha was quick to bring us drinks as we needed them.
The food at Cenote was surprisingly good, and better tasting than room service, so we often went there at night instead of ordering in. Fun to watch the Iguanas fight over a dropped tortilla chip.
The ocean was beautiful, and we really liked the infinity pool, though it was very noisy there. We like a more zen experience. The pool by the sushi bar is very secluded and often quiet, if that's more your speed.
As for the shuttle to the beach, we didn't hate it, but it sometimes was more shlepping than we had energy for, so that's why we ended up at the pool most days. We found the Hacienda ridiculously touristy, but also handy for snack purchases (go to the pharmacy to buy snacks at local prices vs resort prices) and the souvenirs we wanted to bring home. We didn't spend time there at night.
Overall, we found the resort staff to be charming and friendly and accommodating, the rooms comfy and cool, the location beautiful, and the food mostly good to occasionally excellent (and rarely bleh). We would recommend this hotel.
