Blau Varadero: An excellent resort

The hotel Blau Varadero is really great; the sports facilities, restaurants, the beach - everything is in excellent condition, very clean and tidy. The only small inconvenience was the smell of fresh paint - evidently there were some repairs going; otherwise everything was perfect. The service is also good; the staff is friendly. I should mention that the plane trip was rather difficult, since the plane is very crammy, not much leg and shoulder space; moving carts with drinks or food was almo [... read more]st impossible. Also there was a horrible very cold ventilation, and there would be a charge $18 for a blanket. The company should think about improving the flight part of vacation. Also, instead of making the route Edmonton- Calgary-Varadero, they could have made it on alternating dates flying Edmonton-Varadero directly, - all the same tourist woud be covered without the necessity to stop in Calagary.

Iberostar Origin Laguna Azul: Great resort

This hotel is a family friendly resort. The staff are amazing. My 8 year old son enjoyed the mini club, he was there practically every day. Yanet, Alvaro and Yadira were great at the mini club. The grounds of the hotel are well kept and beautiful. Plenty of pool and beach chairs. Food choices were average but good for the summer season. The rooms were clean and everything in working order. This was our second time at this resort and we will be back again.

Muthu Playa Varadero: You get what you pay for

The hotel is a little run down (older than others) but as I said you get what you pay for. Staff was friendly but Sunwin rep was more interested in selling day trips than finding my luggage.if your looking for a low cost hotel then this will do.

Hotel Bella Costa: Amazing Resort

All was great except the room was a bit moldy and we could smell it. The bathroom they could use a cleaning product or vinegar. The beach there was absolutely beautiful and the people there were so friendly.

Paradisus Princesa Del Mar: Amazing place!

Clean, professionally staffed, courteous, 24/7 availability of food... Smiling and engaging staff....................... good food with NO regrets at all! Nightly entertainment is a bonus! Additional trips can be booked at the resort itself. Staff of diff travel companies are dropping in every day...

Resonance Blu Varadero: Great Resort, Great Staff, Tourists... Have some dignity

Clean. Great room. Great service. Great beach front. Chambermaids did an above standard job cleaning. I wrote the chambermaids a note every day. Love Cuba. God Bless your family. Have a nice day. Tipped them 2 CCP plus a gift every morning. Translated. They feel appreciated and go the extra mile to make your stay special. God. These people do without. So I give the tourists I saw a 2.5 star. The resort and staff a 4.0 star. Anyhow... the resort was awesome. The staff was great. The grounds were well kept. The buffet by the beach was great. The Creole restaurant was definitely the best. Don't waste a dinner at the Italian restaurant. GO TO MEMORIES!!!

Paradisus Varadero: Disappointing Experience

The Paradisus resort in and of itself was a disappointment. The pool was out of order for most of our stay due to maintenance/ algae issues. The pool towels were shabby and had holes in them. They ran out of pool towels the second day. Resort for the most part was dated and in disrepair. Although I was not expecting high food quality in Cuba I did not expect them to run out of certain staples either such as orange juice. For example, we waited 15 minutes for pancakes and they simply were never brought out. I watched a bartender in the lobby leave and go get espresso for an employee instead of serving the 8 paying cunstomers at the bar. It seemed as though if you asked for anything it was made to seem as though it was a huge inconvenience. The a la carte restaraunts ran out of certain food items which limited your dining experience. I found the Cuban people who were at the resort as guests were pushy and rude. This trip was way over priced for what you received. This resort is listed as a five star. In any other country it would be a 2.5-3 star. We will likely not return to Cuba as a result of this experience. I will say our Sunwimg Rep Arianna was amazing to deal with and she did her Best to make things right for us.

Occidental Arenas Blancas: 2 star

Food is terrible, chicken never cooked, bacon in the morning is always raw, same thing every day for the buffet. Good beach and location, no I would not stay here again... bad alcohol and no ice blended into piña coladas or margaritas so it's really gross.

Muthu Playa Varadero: Ok resort

The people were kind, amazing. But the resort could have been much cleaner. The beach was beautiful though there was no visible life guard throughout the duration of the trip. The waiters and chefs were great, and were some of the nicest people I have met, however the rooms lacking common necessities such as extra toilet paper and clean towels, made my experience in the trip much poorer than it should have been. Muthu Playa Varadero: Dirty Rundown Resort

Our bedsheets were dirty, the blankets were dusty, there was mould and the room had a musty smell. Our supposed white towels looked like rags used in cleaning floors. There was enough variety of foods to eat but the cups and plates did not look washed. The food was bland. The waitresses were begging for stuff. There were some activities at night but I hated the snake show. Would never go there again.

Grand Memories Varadero: Great Resort and Well Maintained

Grand Memories is a very large and well maintained resort. The pools are clean and chlorinated and the beach is beautiful. The smaller pool with the waterfall is really nice if you just want to relax peacefully. The larger pool is where the activities are done and music is played. The beach has lots of beach activities like kayacking, catamaran, and paddle-boat which are lots of fun and the resort is close to the beach. This resort has the potential to be an amazing vacation resort, but the main problem is the bland buffet food. Cubans like their food with very little spices or pepper, so you have to bring your own pepper sauce if you like spicy food. The freshly made omelettes are the best part of the breakfast buffet. A fly swatter is a good idea, because there are lots of flies flying around. There are many helpful staff that make sure you're well taken care of, but there are also staff that couldn't give a damn. We tipped the helpful staff. Also, its very hot so make sure to stay hydrated while enjoying drinks by the pool or beach. Going into the town was best part of the vacation. We rented scooters and rode them into Varadero and went to Calle 62 and the Beatles club were both awesome. We also took a taxi to Havana and saw the historical buildings. Overall, it was an enjoyable vacation and well worth the money.

Hotel Bella Costa: Not impressed

So the hotel room I paid for was an ocean view, I got a pool view instead. Everything in the room was malfunctioning- a.c , fridge, hair dryer, toilet was leaking water , sink was also sinking water. I didn't receive clean towels everyday or new water bottle in my room. The hotel staff made us not feel welcomed there! They were very rude and terrible at customer service! They would make all the foreign tourists wait until serving all the local customers. Food was alright but always the same selection. Not very fresh One guy from a particular restaurant would pick his nose right before handing us our food! The beach was great but the pool wasn't very clean and would also close early for "maintenance "which didn't help much. The entertainment, was horrible !! Everything in Spanish , lots of Spanish music, the very little games played were also all played in Spanish with the locals. Tourists didn't feel very welcome. A few people I met from Canada also had the same opinion as me. They were very disappointed

Iberostar Origin Laguna Azul: Beautiful resort

Everything about this hotel was amazing, I had the best time there and will definitely be coming back! The pools were well maintained and the beach was absolutely beautiful. Staff was extremely friendly

Hotel Bella Costa: Very friendly hotel

The hotel is a nice place to go and the beach is very nice The staff is super and Especially The Pasta chef Sandro who does a mazing job He takes time to Acknowlege every one and makes your dinning experience good with his good pasta Is a family resort and everyone always has a nice time You meet some very nice guest at this hotel

Hotel Los Cactus: More like a 3star

There are quite a few things that need to be fixed. Phone in room broken. Both of our air conditioners broke down. Hotel looks tired. Food was poor. I've been to Cuba 14 times and stayed at many different hotels that had way better food. Beach bar serves rabbit not chicken. Very poor drink selection. Hotel runs out of everything. Went into town to get decent meal.Didn't think the staff was that friendly except for the entertainment staff by the pool. The beach was beautiful . Hotel full of loca [... read more]ls. Disco was small room full of teens. Never saw yard maintenance being done. The gym was disgusting and broken equipment so I didn't get a workout.

Hotel Bella Costa: Bella Costa

Hi, we had a great time at this hotel, we upgraded to a villa style room for $15 extra per night and had the most amazing view of the ocean. We spent time feeding the cats and dogs, they basically starve until they are fed and in the summer months it's mostly Cubans at the hotels and they never feed the starving animals. The beach was great, my only complaint is that we didn't get to have the special dining, because every time i tried to make a reservation they were already booked! Roc Barlovento: Awesome Resort

Amazing Resort and would definitely go back to this same place. Location perfect to starting of downtown to the market. Buses right next door to catch daily to go from one end of Varadero and back. Buses stop every 30 minutes and you pay $5 CUC and can ride and get off all day long until 9:00 pm. Resort staff friendly and helpful. Smaller resort with little under 400 rooms, but bigger not always better. No long waits or line ups. Not a lot of people running around in chaos. Rooms are clean, bedding clean, clean towels and shower does have hot water. Did not have any issues or problems to deal with. 2 Pools and a low lying down pool (for just lying in on your back which was neat). One main buffet which was clean and food "OK" for CUBA. Always good choices and variety daily. Tour arrangements right on site. Highly recommend the JEEP Tour which was a full day and well worth the price. Well organized and coordinated. Was perfect! Trip to Havanna by taxi which was cheaper than bus tour and you got one on one personal experience. This is recommended as well. Overall, a great experience. Local markets were great and close to where this resort it. Other resorts further down, but would not have the easy access that this place does and not the busy of bigger resorts. I would definitely stay here again. Our local travel agent Kevin Dupuis was great and always readily available by phone or email. Hotel Los Cactus: Great beach great service, but poor food

We enjoyed our stay in los cactus known as breezes before. The rooms were spacious and clean we had a great view, the beach was the best part of our stay. There is only one pool and it's only 1.2 meters deep however it's open 24/7 so that made up for it. The service was great and all the staff were friendly. The food quality was very poor I know it's Cuba but I have been to Varadero before and wasn't this disappointment there is only restaurant for buffet and they always had the same items to pi [... read more]ck from. Overall all we had a good time.

Barcelo Solymar: Good resort

Amazing beach, the hôtel is average. The food is not that bad but it's not great. I had the suite and there's these tiny little ant's that you can barely see on the floor. Overall, I had a great time and I recommend this resort.

Iberostar Selection Varadero: Beautiful Resort

The resort is very clean and beautiful. Great service overall. I didn't like that there were flies sitting on the food in the buffet restaurant and the food wasn't kept very warm. But overall, I really enjoyed myself.
