Occidental Tucancun: Nice resort in general, but...

a good resort overall, but at first we were put in a terrible room with a door to the terrace that didn’t close. When I tried to close the door, there was a gap through which the wind blew strongly, making a very loud sound, interfering with sleep, in addition, the linen in our room was not fresh, and my wife noticed someone else’s hair on the pillows. We asked for the bed linen to be changed, which was done immediately. Also, in the room where we were placed, the view of the sea was minimal. [... read more] The next day we asked to be moved. We were given a room on the third floor instead of the second. The new room fully met our expectations. Overall we liked the hotel, the area is cleaned every evening and morning. Various competitions and events are held throughout the day. We went to the evening show on February 14th, it was very impressive. With the exception of some nuances, my wife and I liked everything.

Occidental Punta Cana: Gorgeous resort

The hotel was exceptional clean ,beautiful room, The food was exilent . Friendly,staff I would definitely go back in a Hart beat . Love everting even the show at night was excellent never the same. I Will recommend this hotel too my friend and family.

Occidental Punta Cana: Great Stay

This resort was absolutely beautiful. Everything from the rooms to the pool area, to the restaurants are so clean. We were there for 2 weeks and the shows at night were never the same and were very good. There is no such thing as perfection no matter how much you spend or where you go, Some of the a la carte restaurants were amazing and a couple were not. Our keycard didn't work a couple of times so we were locked out of our room and had to go to the front desk for help. Minor details. Occidental Papagayo: Wouldn’t Recommend

We spent the first week of Feb here. The resort is nice and rooms are everything you need but… Food is NOT good! We are not picky eaters and no one in our party of four was happy with the food There is a lot of walking up and down hills. They do have shuttles but they need to have them running constantly from the beach up to the rooms The beach is very beautiful and there is great snorkeling there as well. There really is no nightlife if you’re looking for that in the evening. The maid s [... read more]ervice was the worst that we’ve had in 20 years! I wouldn’t recommend this resort at all. My husband and I got sick the day before we left with stomach issues and two weeks later we are still battling them.

Barcelo Bavaro Beach: Declineing Resort

My wife and I have gone to this resort 5 times now. We have noted this year in particular a poor quality of service at the main buffet. We had to wait for tables to be set even though there were few people being served. Busing tables was slow. The quality of the room cleanup was also poor this year. The rooms were poorly maintained with closet doors difficult to open as well as patio doors. No facecloths in bathroom. No pad on ironing board. Did not replenish the coffee etc in the room. I [... read more] did notice the resort spent money on two buildings with a pool that extended in front of some rooms on two buildings. Given the poor state of things like leaking toilets, faucets that leaked etc. the money may have been better spent on upkeep. We enjoyed out time at this resort but given it's decline I will be looking for another resort. Also of note is some of the staff charged with bringing beer, water etc to the rooms often offer you a bottle of rum for a large tip and bring it in wrapped in a towel. Not quite above board.

Barcelo Maya Beach Resort: Typical large resort, beautiful grounds but food and service are lacking.

We came to this resort as another family member booked it. We booked a regular room and were hoping to upgrade or get a second room but we were told it was sold out and to come back few days later. We went back few days later but we could not be offered anything better or another room again. We might be spoiled but we found the food not very good, repetitive and not flavourful. We had to wait for 3 days to get our first a la carte which was essentially the same kitchen shared with the buffet [... read more]. The service was also lacking. We often came to the buffet an hour or so from opening. There was no cutlery on the tables and we had to wait for any type of service. Our highlight was our last a la carte at Italian restaurant Capri. Our waitress, Navitidad, provided the best service that we experienced at the resort. The beach was rocky and few members of our family hurt their toes. The best part of this resort are the beautiful grounds and activities. If you do not care for service, food, or ability to upgrade your room, go for it. We will be looking elsewhere for our vacation next year.

Barcelo Maya Tropical: Amazing resort

The place is massive so make sure you bring some good walking shoes. The people (Staff) were extremely accommodating and pleasant all the time. We booked and went to the Capri, Santa Fa & Trattoria restaurants were all very good and included. We eat most breakfasts at the Mariachi snack bar. They (were near the pools and our room) and had an excellent assortment all was very good. Most evenings we went to Strikers bowling alley & bar the food there was also excellent! The staff was am [... read more]azing! There was not as big of an assortment as the Buffets, but still very good. During the day we spent @ poolside. You'll have to remember to get your towels out (on the loungers) early in the morning, but it seemed people did leave and there was usually a lounger or 2 to be found. People we talked to have been coming here and other Barcelo Resorts for years and love them. I would and have recommended this place to others. I'm SURE we will be back, if not to the Mayan Riviera to another Barcelo's resort

Occidental Tamarindo: Nice Resort

Staff was very friendly, they could speak pretty good english. I found the resort and rooms clean. Towels and stocking our fridge for our room was not consistant. I would say this is a good resort for the retired, there was not much happening around the pool or up beat music during the day. We had 3 17 year olds and a 15 year old and they were pretty bored. Food was very greasy but tasted good.

The beach is very nice , not Cuba beach , but OK , some rocks, watchout. Food OK , if you are young and not fussy. For those that need Wifi , you are in luck, works great in the room. So ,everything considered , and after visiting over 30 resorts in the caribbean , and because it offers all the amenities we require , I admit we will obviously return. its like going to wal-mart , not always the cheapest , nor the best , but it supplies all the necessities , so why look elsewhere , as we have found that elsewhere there are disappointments galore.

Barcelo Ixtapa: Barcelo Ixtapa Beautiful Resort and friendly people

We have been to Mexico many times and have always enjoyed the resorts and surrounding community. This was our first time in Ixtapa and also at the Barcelo. It was wonderful. For starters - very close to the airport so a quick jaunt to the hotel. The Air Canada folks are friendly and knowledgeable. The food was amazing, especially the breakfast and lunch menus. We often venture off the resort in the evening to sample "local" cuisine and were not disappointed. The market is close by for thos [... read more]e who want keepsakes for home and pretty much have everything. we've been so often we don't buy much anymore but it's there if you're interested. There are 3 pools, none were overly crowded despite the very busy hotel so it was enjoyable. The service was very good as we stayed with the all-inclusive package. The drinks were tasty and plentiful. The housekeeping and maintenance staff were quick and responsive as were the reception desk folks. We were able to attend 2 shows in the evening, The Mexican Fiesta was one and it was very nice. Our travel agent Shauna did a remarkable job taking care of our reservations. we have worked with Shauna in the past. She never disappoints. I have to say we would not hesitate to return to this resort. One of the best we've stayed in - and as stated - we've been to many.

Occidental Cozumel: Lovely experience

We have nothing but good things to say about this hotel and our Westjet representatives onsite. The staff was friendly and helpful, the food was good, the room was clean and the bed was comfy. We had a lovely experience. The resort grounds were lush and delight to walk through.

Occidental at Xcaret Destination: Amazing

This hotel provides the best of both worlds - you get the experience of an all inclusive and also the experience of the Xcaret Park which is beside the resort. The staff are friendly and attentive; the rooms are clean and the beds are comfortable. You get to see wildlife basically at your door every day. They have multiple international restaurants and the main buffet dining room provide a large variety of dishes that meet everyone's needs. The food is fresh, well presented and delicious. The [... read more]y also provide nightly entertainment in the main hall and the theatre. They have something for everyone.

Occidental Tamarindo: Go to this special place and enjoy

The physical beauty of this location was exceptional. We made a point of checking out when low tide was and walking the beach either to the right to Tamarindo or walking to the left through kilometres of almost empty coastline to sit in the tidal pools and watch the pelicans fish. Our room was spacious and airy. The people who worked in the resort were kind, competent and professional. The food ranged from very good to delicious. We went on several excursions to Paulo Verde and then to Rio C [... read more]eleste. Seeing capuchin monkeys, sloths and crocodiles was very worthwhile. Costa Rica is a democracy and has excellent healthcare and educational systems. I loved this country and this experience and recommend travelling there.

Barcelo Maya Tropical: Bring your sketchers

Resort is very large. Lots of walking so definitely not for people with mobility issues. Food was ok. Some ala cartes better than others. Grounds are immaculate. Staff super friendly and accommodating. Resort has tons of activities especially for kids and teens. Key cards are a pain. Often did not work. Bracelets would be a huge improvement. Would I stay here again? Only if the price was right.

Occidental Caribe: Made the best of it!

Hotel is dated and requires many upgrades (no phones worked in our room and having to walk to guest services was a hike, shower leaked at the base which required a huge bath towel to soak it all, beer was only added to fridge if it was requested daily and since we had no phone, we were always at guest services). Areas such as the sports bar, exclusive area on beach with a bar for those who pay into premium pkg no longer exists. This is a big resort on beautiful grounds...awesome beach which you [... read more] can walk for hours. Food was good...we didn't starve...it's all about what each individual likes. Staff was stretched out and line ups at the bar were at times insane. There were rumours floating around that the resort was going to be shut down - some said for good and others stated for a year of full renos...so not sure if lack of services is due to this. They are slowing moving away from anything paper - map of grounds, cocktail menu for the bars and food menus for a la carte restaurant all on QR codes and again not all up to date...not always convenient when you don't want to carry your electronic devices every second of the day. At this time, I would not be able to recommend to go somewhere that I am not willing to go back to under the resorts current conditions.

Palma Real: Paradise at Palma Real

An older hotel but incredibly welcoming and inviting from checking in to the wonderful men who struggled with our luggage to the room and to the girls at the bar all smiing running to greet us The entertainment at pool bar was fun and entertaining they have amazing people here too The food was beautifully presented and amazingly decorated with what they have to work with Ocean was a short walk which was great exercise The whole trip was fun amazing and cant wait to go back soon!

Occidental Caribe: Excellent service

Everything was very clean although it is an older resort. There is something to say about a well oiled machine... The food was decent and the beach beautiful. The pools were clean. They definitely need more loungers. The staff were very friendly. They aren't consistent with stocking water/ beer in your fridge.. but all around... I would go back.

Barcelo Maya Tropical: Beautiful Resort

We got upgraded accommodations that we didn't know until we got there and we had access to all 3 resorts. It was quite the nice upgrade. Everything was perfect. Lots to do and the food A La Carte were excellent!

Occidental Caribe: Great Resort

Pros -Very clean -VERY friendly service -Like the layout of the resort -Food was good -Excellent entertainment staff. You could tell that they put a lot of effort in and seemed to enjoy their jobs -Special note to the pool towel girl at the 'quiet' pool. Always had a big welcoming smile. I think her name is Maria Cons -Food service in the Buffet and in the restaurants was very chaotic. Lots of servers and managers but did not appear to be serving guests. Allegro Playacar: Amazing Resort

Beautiful garden with Cenote like jungle holes right in there ( one just at the entrance to the parking lot, another behind the Theatre). Beautiful beach with a view of Cozumel Island in a distance. Nice clean pool, comfortable rooms in a cabana like setting ( not a 15 story building!!) Close to downtown Playa Carmen and ferry. PlayaCar feels very safe but because of its hightened security ( entrance gates, police and military presence ) we’ve got a (perhaps misleading feeling) that anywhere outside is not safe! We have had a very nice time!
