This was a terrific place to vacation ! The private beach was outstanding; it felt like swimming and snorkeling in a crystal clear lagoon. The resort was small enough to make it easy to navigate and it never felt crowded. Always plenty to do; the activities and entertainment was really good for a small resort. Food was great, portions large and the line up's were not long. The rooms were large and comfortable and lacked nothing. The best feature of this resort is the friendly and helpful s[... read more]taff.
Picturesque Willemsted was a very short bus or taxi ride and worth the trip. Mambo beach with many shops, restaurants and happening night life was only a 5 minute walk. I would go again tomorrow :)

Rooms very clean and bright-- grounds excellent-- had to call for water for our rooms -- as the water is undrinkable--3 nights-- 7 calls in all -- finally went to the concierge-- resolved-- not enough staff in the dinner area-- beach good --staff very friendly -- gradtuies were expected -- told how the driver- tour guides--- etc -- pay poor and they live on our generosity -- too much- felt guilty all the time--

Sunscape Splash: Not what we were expecting
Check in was lengthy even though there was no line and we heard the people in front of us having their reservation lost. After getting to our room we found it to be quite small compared to other resorts we have been too.
Food: The food was edible. Nothing good to say. They had 3 "restaurants" that served the same buffet food just glorified it a little. There was 1-2 hour waits for the restaurant as they did not take reservations and upon entering there would be 15 empty tables (we counted). [... read more] The one 'fancy' restaurant Portofino always had a line-up starting at 5pm when it opened at 6pm. I'm sorry but I will not stand in a line for an hour a day on my vacation. We only went once and got the pager so they could beep us when one of the many open tables was available. When we were seated we were in the adult only area but told them we had to get the kids from daycare as we waited so long for the table. This caused a huge scene as we had to be moved outside where kids were allowed and the staff ended up moving the physical table outside to accommodate and this upset our server as he was not supposed to be working outside.
The beach was TINY and very hard to get a lounger although at least getting one was possible most days (not like the pool, but I will get to that). The beach was long but narrow with limited sand, the water was murky and populated with jellyfish. We still spent the better part of each day at the beach because the kids played in the shallows and the sand while we lounged in the sun (mostly what we came for).
Pools and waterpark: very good, only open 10-5 though which sucked. 2 waterslides and a castle and pirate ship that the kids loved. Impossible to get a lounger as people would (I imagine) get up at 6am to throw something on it so it wouldn't be taken even though the hotel states there is a half hour rule (if you are not on the lounger for half hour it can be taken).
We did not go off property as it was exuberantly expensive to do anything with 2 adults and 2 kids and we were not confident in going alone for safety reasons.
The staff were friendly but not service-oriented and very expectant of tips which the welcome package states are included in the resort fee. We tipped a few times but definitely not every time we ate.
Overall it was an OK experience: I am not disappointed in my trip, but I would not go there again or recommend it to people. I do not believe it is a 4 star and would say 3 stars is pushing it.

Sunscape Curacao Resort: Very nice resort
If you like to swim in the ocean with light waves this resort is perfect. The beach is protected by rocks that keep the water calm and easy to swim and snorkel in. We spend more time in the ocean on this trip than any other.
The food in the restaurants was very good, the Japanese was the best. Service can be slow at times but remember you are on vacation and the drinks are included. The area around the resort and in Willemstad was very safe. We took local transit with no issues. $1.50 t[... read more]o take the bus from resort to town. The staff are very friendly and polite and all spoke English very well.
The resort is not new but the rooms were large and clean. The grounds were very well maintained, the beach and pool area was cleaned consistently by staff.
The entertainment group were very enthusiastic and did well with the limited resources. Each night there was live music around the pool area at dinner time. Mostly single musicians with electronic back beats. They were all very talented and added to the ambiance.
We took a day trip with Bounty Adventures on a catamaran to Klein Curacao, highly recommended, the crew were great and the food and drink were excellent. This trip takes you to an uninhabited island were you can swim, snorkel and explore the island. They provide breakfast just after launch, and lunch at the island, which is when the bar opens. A great day out, expect to sleep very well after this trip, we did. Well worth the $108 for the day.

Sunscape Splash: Great Place
Very warm and welcoming staff. Good food. Very nice table servers. Good table service. Pleasant room. Would have liked a small table in the room. Enjoyable pools. I've seen better beaches.
The only drawback was the beach - weeds and leaves, etc.

Sunscape Splash: Fantastic holiday
The staff were exceptional and the service was outstanding. The room and facility was very clean. Food at breakfast was extremely good however the lunch buffet needed some variety. The a la cart restaurants were very good. Beach and water was extremely good. Although advertised as a family resort, there were sections for adults only which made it nice. Entertainment was good. I would definitely return to this resort and would recommend it to friends.

Sunscape Curacao Resort: Good Resort
Good resort; smaller so easy to navigate. Good food in a la carts; buffet was ok. Great location! Rooms in the tower are much nicer than in the villas. Staff are friendly but service was a bit slow. No reservations for a la carts but wasn't a big deal. Water and weather gorgeous - great snorkeling right off the beach! Fairly quiet resort.

Sunscape Splash: Great resort!
This is a great resort. The food is fantastic! The lazy river and water slides are great for both kids and adults. You need to try the free guided snorkel tour (you swim right off the beach). We saw many beautiful fish! Bring your own snorkel gear if you want to be able to go whenever you want. The entertainment at night was also great. We were actually upgraded to their sister resort (Secrets St James) and it was absolutely incredible. Incredible beach and food everywhere. Lol. If you can af[... read more]ford the upgrade, do it. :)

Sunscape Bavaro Beach: A really nice resort
We travelled here on Feb.11-21st, 2017. There were some mixed reviews but you can't please everyone. This is a lovely resort that was re-opened by Sunscape in December 2016. Apparently this area was hit be a hurricane in October and the beach has definitely suffered. They have these huge geotobes, which are eyesores, to prevent further erosion but it is fine to swim just not pretty for pictures. However, if you walk either way 2 minutes and the beaches are stunning. They don't allow you t[... read more]o reserve chairs before 8:00 a.m. and if you do they take your things to lost and found - gotta love that. You really don't have to reserve chairs as there are plenty. The Sunscape Bavaro Beach and The Sunscape Dominican Beach are on the same property so there are chairs are all over the place.
Rooms: We loved our room - king bed
Housekeeping: Excellent
Food: My husband really enjoyed the food but I actually became very ill 3 days in. I had some caesar salad at the steakhouse and I think that was the culprit. I never eat lettuce or uncooked veggies when in any of these countries but I made a mistake. So, most of my time was spent on the balcony. I had to make a trip to the medical clinic and unfortunately had to go to the hospital to get IV fluids and blood work and turned out to have a bacterial infection/travellers diarrhea. The hotel actually sent someone from the hotel with us and she waited till we were done and went back with us. Her name was Patricia and I have to give a shout out to her. So it was a very expensive day for us and made me sick to think we had spent good money and I couldn't enjoy anything but the last day. A word to anyone booking in these countries - brush your teeth with the bottled water even though they tell you it is okay to brush your teeth with the tap water. I was told by the physician at the hospital that you should always brush your teeth with the bottled water. I would also suggest that people come with antibiotics packed in there luggage as a preventative measure. I had a co-worker that also just came back from another spot in the Dominican and she took Dukarol and she still got sick on her last day but she started the antibiotics right away.
I have to say the people at this resort really do care that there guests enjoy. i was even offered room service at no charge because I was so unwell. However, I was feeling 99.9 percent better so that I could enjoy my last day on the beach. Thank God it didn't rain that day as out of the 10 days we had four days of rain.
We purchased the wifi for the week and then had to renew another three days. The prices change with whomever you speak with which I thought was kind of odd. My husband spoke to one guy and he gave a price so we waited till our regular guy was back on the desk and he gave us a better deal. I believe it was 80.00 for the week and it was really good. It even worked on the beach. Face Time was not that great but that takes up more bandwidth but speed wise for email it was great.
Building 11 is the best. Anything for rooms 11211 and higher are the best as you are close enough to the lobby but not too close. If we went back there we would request this area for sure.
They have a 24 hour coffee bar and that was a godsend for me. You can get get all kinds of specialty coffees, Twinning tea and some chocolates and sweet and the staff are super sweet.
The only bad thing about this hotel was that in the lobby, they had these ridiculous bean bag chairs. Anyone 50 plus who got in one of those, never got out without making a total fool of themselves. They definitely need to get rid of those. Maybe they had them when it was another hotel.
The beach towel service was fabulous. They were open at 8:00 and you didn't need a ticket. Before I forget, you also didn't need armbands - wonderful.
A la carte restaurants - You didn't need reservations. However if you were not there by 6:15 p.m. you would have a two hour wait.
Buffets - The Sunnyside Grill was by the beach and they would have a big paella going. It was smaller than the main buffet but outside they were grilling burgers and sausage. My husband had a burger almost every day and enjoyed it. They also had a pizza bar by the main pools and it was constantly busy. It looked good.
I think this is it. I would go back here but a little scared at the moment to do that. Maybe next year.

Sunscape Curacao Resort: Very Nice Resort (Relaxing Time)
First and foremost, I must say the Staff at Trip Central, were amazing. Tracy Weldon-Duffin was extremely helpful in that she had stayed at this resort 3 times before and gave my wife and I some excellent advice and heads up.
To the resort.
After reading some reviews we were a little concerned, but I do have to say that our concerns were unfounded. I am going to rate the different aspects of this resort with a little description.
Room: 3.5 out of 5: The rooms were a little dated and[... read more] could use an update, but they were extremely clean. The bed was comfortable, and the shower stall 3' x 6' was roomy and spacious. Great water pressure too.
Reception Desk; 4.5 out of 5, The staff at the front desk were excellent. Our plane was delayed 4 hours and when we arrived they had us checked in and to our rooms within 15 minutes of arriving. They also had the restaurant stay open a little later so we could have a meal. Anything we asked, if they did not know, they would get you an answer. They arranged a room exchange immediately when I informed them I had bad knees and, although I can climb the stairs to our second floor room, it was painful. They put us on the main floor and arranged transfer of our possessions.
Grounds: 4 out of 5; Well maintained, and kept spotless. Again, maybe a little dated and in some need of repair in certain areas, but this did not detract from our enjoyment.
Restaurants: 4.5 out of 5; We read that there was no variety at the buffet. Again not true. I could have eaten something different every day if I had wanted to. Chicken, Pork, Fish, Beef, Pasta, Salads, Fruit so fresh you would have thought they picked it that day were offered and enjoyed. The Ala cart restaurants are even better. Italian, we ate there twice was excellent with great service. The Japanese restaurant (you will need a reservation here), was amazing. Food is cooked for you at the table and you get entertained by the cook as well. The Beach Grill offered hamburgers, hot dogs, steak, ribs and grilled chicken, all well prepared and serving sizes were amazing. Other than the Japanese Restaurant, you do not need to have reservations at the Ala cart.
Beach: 5 out of 5. Great Beach with soft sand. Clearest water I have ever snorkeled in. The break wall out about 50 feet from shore means the water is calm. Most days you could also snorkel outside the break wall. No problem with lounges, we were always able to get one. I cannot name most of the fish we saw, but they were so plentiful and beautiful. Many times i was snorkeling with schools of fish numbering over 100. Just a warning, if you are not a strong swimmer, stick to the pool. The drop off is about 20 feet out from shore and it gets to well over 25 to 30 feet deep.
Pool: 4 out of 5. I was only in the pool once, with a beach like the one we had, who needs a pool.
Staff 5 out of 5. From the cleaning staff to the bar staff, all were top notch. Even the towel exchange person was amazing.
Overall rating; 4.25 out of 5. This resort will see us again, hopefully, next year. When we do book we will definitely use Trip Central to arrange everything for us.
I hope this has helped.

Sunscape Dominican Beach: Amazing Resort! Don't listen to the negative reviews ;)
Sunscape Splash: Second Time-Exceeded Our Expectations!
This was our second stay at this resort. Last year they were under con struction so the rooms were very plain. This year they have added new artwork and bedding to the rooms. Last year the wifi was always down. This year we had no issues at all with wifi. The loungers have been replaced and look great. The beach was not the best but the numerous pools made up for it. The service far exceeded our expectations. When we checked in Dianne at the front desk recognized that we were returning for our s[... read more]econd visit. She apologized that the room we were getting wasn't the best but that she would upgrade are us the next day. She made good on her promise and we had a lovely room. The food at the Cove was excellent. The buffet was always great. Not a single complaint. Hey! It's 🇯🇲 Jamaica! Everything is Irie!

Sunscape Curacao Resort: Beautiful Resort!
The hotel is a bit dated, however extremely clean. The staff are very pleasant. The buffet could use more staff to serve drinks and clean tables. The Sunwing reps should not promote eating at 12:00 on day of check- out. The buffet does not open until 12:30 (the same time the bus was picking us up for the airport). This misinformation created a bit of chaos where people were seating themselves and the staff were trying to set up for the 12:30 opening.

Sunscape Bavaro Beach: Beautiful, Cozy Resort
This resort is so beautiful with all its natural vegetation, example: palm trees, Bambo trees, flowers and very well kept gardens and greeny.
The staff were outstanding with there serves and always with a smile. Everyone was very hard working and always willing to help, this did not go in noticed and thank you for making our stay amazing. Everyone from our maid service, servers in the restaurants and buffet, front desk and most importantly the explorers club, thank you Michael and Anni.
Now fo[... read more]r my family and I the beach is always the most important to us. Even though part of the beach was eroded away we still found it very enjoyable. People the eroded part of the beach is dead centre to the resort, if you go right or left of the eroded part you will find very comfortable, relaxing and beautiful. There is nothing you can you about the force of Mother Nature except rebuild which is what they are doing.
My only negative review would be the no reservations for the al a chart restaurants, they have a first come first based. This does not work plan and simple. When you are operating a full capacity and 100 people show up to the same restaurant and you have seating only for 50 people there is a problem.
Beside that I loved everything else about the resort. Rooms are modern, simple and very clean. Wait staff are there to meet your every need. Lobby staff will go out of their to help you find an answer and any question you might have. The Explorers Club has amazing child care so you can enjoy some one on one with your spouse.
Thank you again to everyone at the Sunscape Bavaro Beach Resort for making our vacation so pleasant :)

Sunscape Puerto Plata: Nice resort. Good value and service
The resort is located about 20 minutes from the airport. The service from the staff was very good. Minor issues were resolved in a timely fashion. The food was good at the buffet as well as the other restaurants (beach, pool, Ã -la-carte). The vendors on the beach are numerous and they are constantly going by trying to sell their products. Overall, we enjoyed our stay at this resort and would consider returning in the future.
