Great quality and value resort

Grand Bahia Principe Coba is a great quality and value resort for the whole family or on your own. The staff is friendly and professional and will go out of its way to help. The best area to relax while enjoying a nice cocktail at the end of the afternoon is located just outside the hotel at the back, close to the main entrance of the buffet restaurant. Make sure to take a walk along the beach and catch the dolphins show close to the Tulum Hotel. The biggest pool is at the Coba, but there are more pools to choose from on the resort. The one at the Tulum Hotel is one of my favorite. Excursions are available, but you can opt to stay at the resort and walk the grounds. You will see exotic animals, flowers and trees while feeling the amazing sea breeze on your skin. You will go back home energized, happy, and dreaming about your next get away.

Beautiful resort.

This was our second time at this resort. The first in 2011. We liked this resort so much then that we decided to go back again. The grounds are beautiful, well kept and mowed. The person who looked after our room did a great job, always lots of towels and bottled water, although I think that the lamp shades should be replaced. They were stained and looked dirty. Always lots to choose from, but we found that the food was just lukewarm, never very hot as compared to when we were there in 2011. We did go to one a la carte, the Japanese restaurant, and found the food there very good and Luis did an excellent job serving us. The pool area was great and the people working at the bar were great. I didn't have any kids with me, so cannot comment on the children's area, but they all seemed to be having a good time. Always lots of trolleys to take you wherever you wanted to go, never a long waiting period. We booked this trip back in August or September of 2014 and requested Building 31 but were put in Building 12. I feel that booking 6 months in advance they should have been able to meet out needs. All in all the resort was good.

Great time with our toddler!

Had a wonderful time at this resort! Kids pool and play area was awesome and kept our daughter entertained the entire time. More live music at night would have livened the lobby up a bit. Would book again for sure

Family friendly fun

The grounds of the Coba and adjoining sister hotels are as stunning as they are expansive. The staff work tirelessly both inside in the buffet and other restaurants, shops and front desk, as well as outside ensuring all is well maintained. For families, the highlight for youngsters is hands down the water park from the moment the water turns on until the end of the day. The main buffet yields a variety of food choices, which though at times repetitive, is plentiful and well attended to. If you stay at Coba you know in advance you are not on the beach but a walk or short trolly ride away. Though further down the coast/from the airport then some, its distance to nearby sites such as our personal favourite Xel-Ha, make it worth the trip. The resort itself is largely populated by fellow Canadians or Brits making it a warmer home away from home and is very family friendly break after a cold Canadian winter.

The resort was nice and very clean

We thought the resort was quite nice, very well kept grounds, attractive, main pool was lovely with nice tree coverage,rooms were clean. Public areas and especially washrooms were well maintained.....

Absolutely amazing!

Everything was perfect! Food was awesome and no shortage of it. We went to 2 a la carte restaurants and they were fabulous! Lots of little snack bars handy to everything. Rooms were great, could have used a mop on the floors though. Lots of trolleys to the beach & shopping. Loved loved loved it!

Great resort!

Very enjoyable stay, great service, friendly staff, very clean and well kept facilities. The weather was great, and there were lots of activities. The hotel provided transportation around the resort was very helpful

Good Resort

We stayed at this resort 4 years ago and again this April 2-9.2015. There were a few things that we noticed had changed since 4 years ago. The most important was the food, it was not as good this time. The selection seemed to be the same most days and most times the food was only warm. We ate at Tulum a few times and it was better. Also the service was less this time. Not sure if it was because it was Easter weekend as the resort was packed and maybe not enough staff. Outstanding - Fabulous Food, Service, Grounds

The Coba is an extremely large resort and you really do need the trolly system. Absolutely everything was awesome except the beach. It was disappointing in that swimming is at a minimum due to rocks and seaweed. The hotel tried in vane to keep the beach clear but you can't fight mother nature. If you are aware of this before you get there, it is certainly one of the best resorts around. The pools are a good substitute. The staff is exceptional and the food is to be recommended.

Good Resort

We had a good time. We stayed in the Koba part of the resort (kids area) which worked for us. We were gold members and enjoyed the better drinks at the club house before dinner. Book your reservation into the restaurants as soon as you get their!!! The Koba was far from the beach but an enjoyable ride on their bus system. The beach was covered with seaweed 20 m deep from shore. The resort was trying hard to clean it up but it was endless - good effort on the workers. The building was new but the contractor must have forgotten his level the day he built the bathroom shower: as water flowed freely around the edge and onto the floor as you were trying to shower. Hint - leave a tip in the fridge and it will be filled every time with beer and chocolates. The shops are expensive compared to the airport - go the Playa del Carmen if your need to. The air transit flight was what you would expect - drop down middle of the plane movies with a poor selection of music - nothing current. My bag was damaged in it handling. The food was good at the buffet.

It was an incredible resort to stay at!

The resort had beautiful grounds,great food.good entertainment and nice rooms!The only negative thing I can say about it was that the beach had way too much seaweed!I would go back to this resort again and I would recommend this resort to everyone.:)

Great Resort

This resort was very well kept, food was good, and resort really had great things for the kids. Good shows (especially Michael Jackson show) and shopping area as well. This was our second time back....Would definately go back!

Huge resort

the resort was very nice. stayed in the COBA section and only had access to the Tulum resort as well, not akumal as originally told. trams take you everywhere you want to go, including the beach. it's a great family resort, loud at the pools but fun.

Great Resort!!!

Overall the Grand Bahia Principe Coba lived up to and surpassed our expectations.We were guests in the Royal Golden section March 19-26, and upon arrival we were checked in fast and found front desk staff courteous and friendly.Our room was huge with a huge comfortable kingsize bed and large bathroom.We arrived late at night and much to our delight the buffet was open and the food was incredible.Our building was 24b which overlooked the adults pool and was situated close to everything.Staff was  [... read more]very friendly,expecially Abigail in the Golden Lounge and Andres in the Kukulcan Dining hall.The trollys that take you to different parts of the resort were fun and a fast way to get around,we really enjoyed the Hacienda Market .We also took the Collectivo (bus/van)into Playa Del Carman,which cost 70 pesos(about$5)per couple and came back about 10pm also on the Collectivo,it was great about a 30 minute drive and dropped us off at their station a 2 block walk to 5th avenue.The resort is huge,but there are lots of pools and activities to keep everyone busy,we loved the ampitheatre and the nightly shows.Our only disappointment was the large amounts of seaweed which drifted inward off the reefs,not allowing people to enjoy the beach as much as they would like...staff worked extremely hard gathering seaweed up with a frontend loader and rakes and bags,and derserve credit for this ,we enjoyed our last two days at the beach because of their hardwork...We would recommend the Grand Bahia Principe Coba to anyone,thanks for a wonderful stay!!!

Great vacation!

The grounds are well maintained and clean. Food was good, A la cartes were hit and miss. Room was cleaned daily and most staff were friendly. Beach was full of seaweed, but no big deal, can't control the weather.

Great vacation!

The GBP Riviera Maya was awesome! The food was very good and the venue clean and beautiful. My two teenagers and I really enjoyed our stay. The staff would cater to all your needs and the weather was simply balmy.

Vacation at last! Yes, it's true, after 30 years.

I have not travelled in some 30 years... long overdue you say - yup it's true. My niece and I said "we have to do something about this". So off we went, to Mexico, in specie Gran Bahia Principe Coba. Beautiful resort, clean, friendly staff, accommodating beyond your wildest imagination - your wish is their command!

Best Vacation Ever

We really had the best vacation ever at this resort. We just got back from the Bahamas Sandals and we loved this even more (although the beach in the Bahamas is nicer). Beds were comfy and we slept great (cots are hard as a rock as an FYI). The pool and activities were super fun. The food was great. Best part was Jose our waiter. Our five kids adored him and couldn't wait to go back for breakfast to be entertained by him. The restaurants were great fun. We did EXPLOR which was a HUGE highlight.  [... read more]Highly recommended. And we did the Mayan adventure with snorkeling, ziplining and cave swimming. Amazing day. Would highly recommend this resort for families.

Nice resort, but it was better in past years

This is our 4th year at Bahia Coba. It's a bit far from Cancun (and a long ride after and before a flight), but food and kids' club are amazing. Entertainment is geared towards an older audience, but okay. Better activities for parents at sister-resort Tulum. Coba beach was moved slightly towards Tulum and is not great (small, rough sand and lots of seaweed this year), but you can spend time either at the beaches of Tulum or Akumal. Relaxing resort!

Coba was clean, friendly and easy to navigate around. Our room was spacious, clean and well stocked.The food was delicious and plentiful. A little disappointed that a couple a la cartes were closed.Sunrises were amazing! The beach was a let down due to all the washed up sea weed but we realize the resort was not at fault for this. The pools were clean and warm. We recommend this to anyone with children. Our 2 teenagers weren't interested in very many activities but enjoyed the family friendly at [... read more]mosphere. Although we felt very safe all throughout the resort our teenagers lost $20 each from their wallets. Their wallets were in their room in their luggage. So I would recommend using the safe in the room. Overall, we enjoyed the relaxing atmosphere, great food and beautiful sunshine.
