Wonderful time at the Ambar!

From arrival to checkout ,all went smoothly at the Ambar. My friend and I both 60 have travelled before ,so we know that there can be problems big and little at these resorts. Happy to say we loved it. Great food , beautiful beach to walk on,helpful service,lovely pools and entertainment and nice rooms. The Bahia Principe is a huge complex but once you are at the Ambar you can orient yourself quickly. We stayed at the Ambar 2 which is the newest section and it was beautiful . Vacation

This hotel is very clean, grounds are pretty lush and resort is resort. The room in Ambar 1 are older but still in good condition. The food and service is excellent. The beach is amazing. The lobbies are very welcoming and relaxing.

Excellent Resort

We totally enjoyed our stay. We were close to beach & pool & had access to other buffets, so had lots of choices of where to eat. At first we found resort overwhelmingly big, but very easy finding our way around. We'd definitely stay there again.

Very clean resort

Do not go there for tbe wine. Otherwise resort was amazing, clean and staff was amazing. Did not restock fridge as was advertised, but otherwise everything was very clean. What else do you want. must stock chardonnay.

Simply amazing

First visit to an all inclusive destination for my husband and I. We were simply amazed by the whole experience. Staff are very friendly, the resort is supper clean and the food variety was great Going back for sure. Thank you Tracey for recommending the Bahia P Ambar

Beautiful resort

Stayed at the Ambar 2,new and very very nice. Rooms are huge, pool quiet, beach a 10 minute walk from our room. Excellent a la cartes and buffets. Staff friendly and attentive. All around great resort!

Highly recommend

Amazing resort. I would certainly return. The food at the buffet restaurant was extraordinary, a lot of selection for vegetarians. Staff all friendly and helpful. Clean. Good entertainment. Nice beach.

Amazing people

we have stayed at the royal golden side of this resort in the past years we tried ambar time the resort is amazing the people are friendly always ready to get you what ever you need to make your stay comfortable the resort is cleaned and is always maintained Juan who served us our mimosa every morning with a greeting and a big smile. the food was very good and always a big selection well decorated. Good resort

Was there during New Year's Eve week, lots of people. Huge complex, grounds well kept, rooms a little tired. Good selection at the buffet, one negative comment, still have to make reservations for a la carte restaurants, frankly, this is very passé.

Great!

The resort is huge and the grounds are beautiful and lush! The food was great with variety of choices. Desserts could improve slightly. The people / staff were friendly/happy and helpful. The beach was beautiful but ocean was pretty wavy with some seaweed for ocean lovers who prefer calm waters this might not be ideal. Entertainment was fun and all lobby's were so beautiful and clean. Downside to this resort was that being as it is so large there are car trains that cart you from here to there w [... read more]hich is great however, they do really give a diesel odour. Also don't forget to pack your Immodium.

Awesome Week

Beautiful, Clean, Amazing staff throughout, Don Pablo is best restaurant, Ambar staff excellent, building 64 in Ambar super close to pool and beach, circus show was the best, not sure why all the seaweed complaints - we saw very little

Beautiful resort!

After a few minor hiccups to start, we had an amazing vacation! The resort is stunning...paradise!! The rooms are huge and comfortable. The staff is mostly friendly and polite. The food is outstanding. Overall...highly recommended!

Very pleased with the resort

The resort was very well kept. Accommodations were excellent and clean. Good service everywhere.The grounds are beautiful, and maintained daily.The food was very good. We ate at some of the special restaurants as well, and found them very good. The beach and restaurants there were clean and the food was of good quality.

Busy area !!!

Was a good resort.Very busy on the beach and at the pool. Hard to get a chair. Service in the restaurant was sporadic. Sometimes had to prompt the servers as they wouldn't come to your table with something to drink

One week in Paradise

This is a wonderful hotel with all of it's gardens well manicured. My wife and I were there from Dec.28th to Jan. 4.All of the staff at the hotel were great. Had a couple of favorite waitresses Anna and Bianca always fun at the pool area, We ate at the Gourmet, Steak house, and Japanese restaurants, all very nice We played darts, bingo and participated in a few other activities. NOT SURE WHY THERE ARE NEGATIVE REVIEWS

We stayed at the Bahia Principe Ambar from December 12th to the 19th. From reading the reviews prior to my trip I was expecting some possible negative situations however was prepared to deal with them in a rational manner. Bottom Line was this resort is wonderful. The staff is wonderful. Sure the majority of them do not speak English but what do you expect; you're in their country so learn a little Spanish. We found the food to be 910. We found that as long as we smiled at any of the staff they smiled back and were friendly to deal with. The sand and beach are wonderful. We had a few days where the sea-weed blowing in off the ocean was bad. That is mother nature folks so get used to that part. They did do a great job to remove it as best they could. Service on the beach was good. We prefer to go get our own drinks and see the bartenders. Everything worked well in our room and the room was cleaned everyday on time. If we needed something we just went out in the hallway and asked any of the maids for it and we got it. This is a wonderful resort. The average age was around 44 in our opinion. The swimming pools are nice but we are beach people. We used the pools for about 1 hour per day and the rest of the time was at the beach. The resort is quite large and we used the shuttle buses all the time. We never waited more than 3 minutes to catch a bus and drive to where we wanted to go. We do not mind walking around either and the most it took us from the beach to the Ambar was about 6 minutes. We took in some of the shows as well. The Michael Jackson show is really good. As well we liked the disco night where they played great music from the 70's, 80's and 90's. The booze was great. They have a wide choice and if you go to the bars yourself they will make your drinks as strong as you like. In my opinion the people that are writing negative reviews are just plan spoiled people. If they want 5+ everything then book a resort that charges you $4,000 or more a week. This hotel was great value for what we paid which was $2,900.00 for two people.

Great Resort

This was our third visit to the Grand Bahia Ambar. There have been changes to the property which may or may not work out for the best. Rooms have been added which means more people. The beach was very crowded. We found that there were sufficient chairs most days but as always you had to be down early to get what you wanted. Beverage service on the beach was hit and miss and I believe it was due to a shortage of supplies. There was a lot of seaweed washing up on shore every day. Workers seemed to [... read more] constantly be raking, bagging, and carting it away but the next morning it was back. Some days even the water was full of it. This was up to mother nature and hopefully she will be kinder in the future. Service at the pool/beach restaurant the first three or four days of our stay was pretty much non existent. I couldn't quite figure it out. Employees didn't seem to care. They didn't serve you coffee or water or even set the tables some times. Later on in the week this changed and everybody seemed to be happy to serve. Not sure what the problem was but I think management was trying to institute some changes which obviously were not working for them. The food was okay but not what we had received on prior visits. Lobby area was great. There were always a lot of people sitting and enjoying conversation and drinks. Service on the most part was very good. Food in the main buffet was good but not great. They no longer have all the canapes or variety of protein and veggies available as they did in previous years. The food seemed to be somewhat limited, pretty basic and for us disappointing. I don't go to a five star adults only resort to eat hotdogs, hamburgers and French fries but I guess some people do. Also noticed that the staff were not keeping the buffet area as clean as they had in previous years. The serving tongs were not changed on a regular basis and always appeared dirty and covered with food. People seem to like to pick the serving tongs up at one end of the buffet, help themselves as they go along, then leave the dirty tongs covered with all sorts " in the dish" at the end. Call me fussy but I don't find this appealing. A la carte restaurants were very good with excellent food and service. The only problem we had was at the Japanese Restaurant Maikaido where we had room temperature miso soup and cold tempura. Not sure if this is where it happened but ended up with bad tummy problems (first time we've had a problem at this property). Favourite a la carte was Portifino where the food and service was above and beyond excellent in my opinion. Our room was lovely, we had a corner suite which was very big and comfortable. The maids decorated it beautifully for our anniversary with flower petals on the bed and a heart made out of towels, and balloons. Nice touch. Bottom line is we probably will give it one more try and see if they work out their problems. Poor service will not be accepted and certainly lack of cleanliness around the food area is a no no. Tummy problems a second time will mean no more visits to the Grand Bahia Ambar for us. The property is beautiful.

Top Knotch

This is our second time and again not disappointed. The Location is great, food great, amenities great. If you want a relaxing vacation, this is the place to go. It is an adult only venue and is superbly maintained. The available restaurants give one a change from buffet food if you need that. All in all a value for money resort.

Grand Bahia Principe Amber

It's our 6th time and once again it was outstanding weather and accommodations , service and smiles all around , we enjoy all the staff and if you have any requests they are more than accommodating Plus 9 days was just perfect !! Plus booking through Trip Central made your travel simple and smooth !
