Ocean Riviera Paradise: OK Resort

The Hotel was clean. Rooms spacious and clean. Beds comfortable. Beach was awful, and too dangerous for kids. They need more service staff. Service was lacking as the ones working there weren't able to keep up. kids shows are non existent. entertainment didn't start until 9:30pm so if you have kids, you're out of luck. wouldn't call it a family resort. They need to put some thought into entertaining kids. The Privilege club is a joke, don't waste your money. The time share sales people are push [... read more]y and annoying and they follow you everywhere. Food was good, but desserts were awful. Mostly cookies or tasteless desserts. Nice coffee shop and kids loved the icecream shop.

Excellence Riviera Cancun: Excellente!

This was our 2nd time at Excellence Riv Cancun and it was just as amazing as the first. The fact that we met many people who said it was their 3rd/4th/5th time at this resort is a testament to the quality of the resort. The staff is great, always working hard and happy to see you there. The restaurants are all great- Basmati and Chez Isabelle were our favourites. The pools were immaculate and the grounds just beautiful. They are constantly cleaning, painting, grooming.... It is a quiet r [... read more]esort, with the average age probably 45+. The main pool is definitely where the action is- pool games, music, swim up bar... Every afternoon there is live music at the Sole bar at the main pool. There are lots of quiet areas around the other pools and the lazy river is so beautiful and serene. We've never went to the same resort before, always wanting to try something different but I have to say our next time back to the Mayan we will be making our third visit to Excellence Riviera Cancun as we couldn't ask for anything better.

Selection Riviera Cancun: Family Friendly-ish

This hotel is a tough one to review because the grounds, rooms, pools are all lovely. We had a nice stay, but encountered some service issues that I think wouldn't exist if we hadn't taken our one year old. We aren't people who normally order room service, but because we had a baby with us, we ate in our room a couple of nights as he was too tired to go out. The hotel doesn't deliver any drinks to your room! We envisioned having a glass of wine on our balcony while our child slept, nope. Th [... read more]ey have great kids club and pool and splash pad, yet the evening entertainment is so loud it sounds like bongo drums outside your door, and goes on sometimes till 11 pm. Not ideal when you have children. We also found the "all inclusive" part to be misleading as they gave us such a hard time about premium alcohol every time we would order a drink. We tried to order Heineken every time my husband wanted a beer, and every time they would say they don't have any (despite the fact we could see other people drinking it). Then we would argue with them, and they would miraculously find it. Same goes for any premium vodka. Due to some service issues, we were told we would have a $150 credit on our room and we could use it to purchase something at the resort. When we went to do so the next day, the credit had disappeared and management claimed to not know what we were talking about. Other little things like the staff in the shop being rude when we asked to borrow an air pump (we could see it on the counter, no one was using it) and they refused to let us use it for our child's blow up toy. Other resorts the staff were much more accommodating, and would have blown the toy up for us. Overall the resort is really nice (apart from the evening noise) but it's these little service issues that left a bad taste in our mouth and we wouldn't return.

Iberostar Waves Paraiso Beach: Great place

We had a really great time. We found the rooms very clean. The food was good. The atmosphere accommodated everyone. You could be quite and relax, or have a really fun time. Really accommodating staff. We will go back.

Iberostar Selection Paraiso Maya Suites: Fantastic Vacation

Hotel was fantastic! Front Lobby was impressive and check-in was fast allowing for almost a full first day to get to know the resort. Lobby bar was a great meeting place before activities and the bartenders always cheerful and helpful. Coffee martini's were fantastic. Our room was quite spacious and clean. Housekeeping was very good. The bathroom was beautiful stone/marble with double sinks. Food was very good. Mexican restaurant was delicious. Service at each a la carte was very good.  [... read more] Pools were gorgeous and very clean and very maintained. Staff was very friendly and helpful throughout the resort. Golf course was very scenic and very well maintained. Staff cleaned our clubs better than they've been since new. The drink cart came around at just the right time. Wi-Fi was fast and everywhere you wanted it to be.

Dreams Aventuras Riviera Maya: Nice Area

The hotel is a bit tired. The room we had was okay but smelled musty and was very damp. The beach is very small and only waist deep with lots of reef and seaweed. This is a place more suitable for family with children, there were many things for the children, a big pool and the resort did a lot of events with them. It was a bit small and noisy, with the lobby having live music every night, and many rooms are around the lobby area. The hotel has a nice staff that is very helpful and they had very good entertainment at night.

Bahia Principe Explore Coba: Great weather, good resort

This is a very family orientated resort, so if your traveling as a couple I suggest you get the upgrade that allows you to visit all the resorts and the 18+ beach area. It's worth it. Personally I prefer sian ka'an

Ocean Coral Riviera Cancun: Great Resort

Beautiful resort with 4 pools (one for children) and many restaurants. Lots of beachfront but unfortunately lots of dark seaweed in water and along beach. Hotel made substantial effort to clean up beachbeach day butvseaweed was copious and relentless. Also lots of plastic garbage floating ashore. Food in all restaurants was excellent. Lots of events during day and in the evening. Rooms were excellent as was the service. Bahia Principe Escape Sian Ka'an: Great resort

We liked almost everything about this resort. The food was great, the service wonderful. Nice and clean. The quiet pool at the resort is actually quiet (so often someone brings their own music to the quiet pool to the annoyance of other patrons - none of this here.) The resort is adults only, and fairly small so the restaurants are within 5 minutes of your room. The entertainment was truly amazing, unlike the rather mundane repetitive entertainment so many of the big resorts have. The ente [... read more]rtainment here was highly polished and professional. Great singers. We attended and danced almost every night. This resort isn't on the ocean, but there is a a private beach reserved for the resort guests on the ocean, plus full use of all the Bahia Principe facilities in the ocean based resorts. The ocean is a 2.4 km walk from the resort, which took us about 25 minutes each way (a casual walk.) There is also a shuttle that runs about every 10 minutes if walking isn't your style. We had a ground floor room with a large private patio garden and a Jacuzzi. The room was a good size, and we made good use of the patio and Jacuzzi. The room had to AC units so temperature control was simple. The bed was one of the most comfortable I have ever slept on. The room has one large wall that includes two large patio doors opening onto the patio. The only thing we didn't enjoy can't really be held against the resort - as we find it at every resort we go to. That is cigarette and cigar smoke. While Mexican resorts have come a long way in the last 15 years by banning smoking inside, they need to go a lot further in keeping the smokers away from the outdoor areas too. We were constantly moving to new seats at the resort outdoor bars or on the beach, trying to avoid inhaling smoke. I'm not sure if smokers don't realize that 50-75 meters is the minimum distance away you need to be (or if they just don't care) - but we struggled to find a spot where we couldn't smell cigar smoke. If there was a resort that banned all smoking - indoors and out - it was would definitely get our business, but until then, this resort gets top marks in all other categories. One other issue - the lights in the room aren't all that bright. We used our cell phone flashlights a bit when looking in the makeup mirror and at other times. In the future, I might throw a headlamp in my luggage. Not a big deal, and I appreciate that less bright lighting is probably more eco friendly - but I'd suggest bring a small headlamp to help see at times.

Bahia Principe Escape Sian Ka'an: Great resort

If you are looking for a resort that is luxurious and quiet, Sian Ka'an is the place for you. The villa suites are spacious, clean and bug free (considering you're living in the forest). The food was good, the customer service was amazing and the grounds are absolutely beautiful. The only downside was the entertainment at night was boring (it was better at the other Bahia Principe resorts across the street which you get access to when you stay at Sian Ka'an). Also, since this resort is not o [... read more]n the beach, you have to hop on a quick shuttle that will take you directly there. Sometimes, we would have to wait a few minutes to get a shuttle but they come pretty frequently. I went to the spa 3x's during my 7-day stay and each and every time, I had a great experience. Frida and Aimee did a fantastic job when my husband and I bought a valentines day package that included hydrotherapy and a massage. They were very professional and my husband and I agreed that it was one of the best massages we have ever had. All in all, Sian Ka'an and the other Bahia Principe resorts in Riviera Maya are amazing and you will definitely enjoy yourself when you stay there.

Hyatt Vivid Playa Del Carmen: Awesome Place to Stay!

We stayed the beginning of January which included New Years Eve. Our stay at the resort was exceptional. We travel a lot and we both agreed that this resort has the best service of all of the resorts that we've stayed at over the years. The staff were super friendly and were "on" 24/7 - they rarely missed an opportunity to go above and beyond. The resort itself was beautiful and super clean. Entertainment was just off the lobby and although a bit cheesy at times, overall we really enjoyed it and liked because it was located in a more open area it was easy to come and go. And the location was fantastic. Out back was the lush green resort area with pools and beach and then out front one could be on 5th Ave. with a 2 min. walk. One thing we wouldn't repeat would be to participate in their New Years celebration. We've had better. It just wasn't worth the extra expense of travelling before New Years.

Platinum Yucatan Princess: Comfortable Resort

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and filled my expectations on what I was looking for in a resort. Quiet, good food and good service. My only complaint was that people placed towels on some comfortable chairs both by the pool and beach and then didn’t use them. This is disrespectful and ignorant. There should be some sort of time limitation or regulation.

Riu Tequila: Fantastic week in the sun

Everything was exceptional: food, service, excursions, comfortable and spatious room. Every day I woke up early to experience as much of the area and sunshine as possible. A short break from the cold back home was rejuvinating.

Occidental at Xcaret Destination: Occidental Xcaret

We had a great time at this resort. The grounds are absolutely gorgeous. Monkeys swinging through trees and on our balcony, flamingos, deer, iguanas everywhere. It was lovely. The drinks and food were plentiful. The beach/cove was closed and mirky as a recent storm created a sanddune which closed the opening, but a natural beach formed due to it which we enjoyed. The staff were very pleasant and friendly. We would return.

Royalton Riviera Cancun Resort and Spa: Amazing Honeymoon!

This resort was absolutely beautiful! Great food and good service. Premium liquor used for the drinks. This resort is huge and with so many pools to choose from you never felt crowded even though it was prime holiday time. Everyone was friendly. You don't have to reserve a restaurant and only need to wait a bit for a table. We did not see the need to upgrade to the diamond club. One thing we didn't care for was our first room overlooked the mangrove. We upgraded our room to face one of [... read more] the pools instead as we did not travel that far to look the employees residence. Would have like an ocean view but the hotel was fully booked so pool view was fine. This resort has a beautiful beach, however....they seriously need to do something about the weeds. They wash up on shore and for some reason the resort does not remove them. There is a ridge of weeds constantly on the beach. We did see them using a tractor to rake them up but can see weeds falling back out onto the beach. They do this during the day when everyone is on the beach. This is something that should be done in the very early morning before people start heading to the beach. Not very appealing when you are lying there and the tractor is slowly going by. At other resorts the beach is cleaned very early so that guests are annoyed by the weeds. This is a wonderful resort and we will definitely be going back again!

Valentin Imperial Riviera Maya: First class resort!

Every aspect of this resort is first class and customer focused. The staff is fantastic, the food is great, the grounds are beautiful, the rooms, clean and comfortable. If you are looking for a top notch resort this is the place to go.

Selection Riviera Cancun: Great Family Resort!

The FOOD was exceptional! Even the buffet was a hit! Only down side was all of the algae (kelp) that washed up to shore. The poor men would be clearing it for the majority of the day only for it to return a few hours later. Not sure if this is 'that time of year' thing. Overall fantastic resort! Would highly recommend.

Blue Bay Grand Esmeralda: 2 weeks in paradise

We stayed from Feb 3 to Feb 17 for the second time. What can I say beautiful weather in a wonderful resort we enjoyed it even more this time. Great food great rooms and a lot of new friends. Service was excellent rooms were spotless and a bed as comfy as home. We can't wait to go back and are planning a week in November. Thanks Blue Bay and everyone that works there.

Akumal Bay Beach and Spa Resort: Lovely resort

Just returned from two weeks at Akumal Bay Beach and Wellness Resort. Lovely resort, especially well suited for anyone with mobility issues. Easy to get around with proper wheel chair ramps. The accessible rooms have a properly accessible bathroom but beds are VERY low and may be difficult for some people. Rooms are simple but well maintained and very clean. Grounds are spotless and beautifully landscaped. Never did use the main pool as the beach is very nice and easy to access. Food is  [... read more]above average and service is excellent. The spa is too expensive so did not use it.

TRS Yucatan: Luxurious, relaxing, vacation

We had impeccable service and friendly hospitality, a well-maintained, gorgeous grounds with fabulous food. Access to three other resorts was great value. Lots to do on-site; we never felt we had to leave the resort for entertainment.
