Barcelo Solymar: Not amazing resort

Main building “Solymar” (not bungalow) The resort has problems with the supplied materials and this is not Cuban problem but the hotel chain management problem: remote control and coffee cups in the rooms were missing and were not provided after the formal communication with the room service. The explanation is that they do not have enough. The conditioners were malfunctioning. There were some drainage problems in the bathroom. No information about the resort during the check-in. No inform [... read more]ation in the room on where and how to call, including how to call the reception. The building (five stories not open like a patio) has no smoking policy and no smoking signs everywhere; however, people smoke everywhere: under the signs “no smoking”, in the elevators, in the lobby bar, on the floors. The fume and smell are everywhere in the building and in the rooms. Reception is overloaded and cannot service properly since they are understaffed. Additional three people and couple more computers could help to provide the proper service. Waiting forever with simple questions just to have an opportunity to ask is a normal thing. Cultural aspect of Spanish speaking visitors biased the service of the personnel (reception, bars …) towards the favor to those Spanish speaking guests. How those mentioned guests, or some groups of those guests behave in some numerous cases in various places is another topic to consider, if you care about the quality of your stay or vacation. Do not be naïve about nice Cubans. They will be nice for your dollars, otherwise be prepared for the cold reception, especially if you do not speak Spanish.

Barcelo Solymar: BARCELO SOLYMAR - VARADERO, June/2017

This is a very busy hotel, lots of youngsters and loud parties. Room service is OK, the quality of rooms is average (air conditioners did not work properly, clogged sink, a bit outdated, etc.). Food is fine (same as everywhere on Cuba, suggest to drink some alcohol to avoid sick stomach). The beach is stunning (long and wide white sand, and there are enough tents for everyone). Pools are clean, have special areas for children. In general, it was a good experience and a pleasant stay.

Muthu Playa Varadero: Beach and Location

Lives up to name..golden beach. Ocean perfect for swimming. Good supply of beach chairs. Grounds well kept by gardeners. Food mediocre..lots of fish, mostly pork otherwise...beach restaurant enjoyed most. Cafe bar a treat. Smaller hotel, easier to meet new friends and more compact. Staff mostly somber....few exceptions ..animation team, Yunier, waiter and Wilfred, bartender at pool bar. He was always smiling, friendly, high fiving and genuinely loved his job and people! Hotel in dire need o [... read more]f maintenance and restoration. Shower leaked every time, door warped, hard to open, water leaking in halls, pool bar ceiling, even in closet with the rain. Air only one setting, advised thermostats don't work. Can tell it was pretty special in its day. First visit to Varadero and goal was to visit Havana and Tropicana Club and enjoy the beach. This was accomplished!

Occidental Arenas Blancas: FABULOUS RESORT & FRIENDLY EMPLOYEES

We had a great time at this hotel. This was not our first time to Varadero but was our first time at this hotel. We were able to see a lot of our old friends while there plus we made a lot of new ones.. Everyone of the employees were very accommodating and friendly. Plan to come back during the winter months with a few of our friends.

Hotel Villa Cuba: Nice and sweet

Hotel was small. Room was decent but there were cockroaches and the drain system was terrible. The bath tub took forever to drain. And our toilet got clogged twice. Which was very disgusting. Food was 4/10.

Valentin El Patriarca Varadero: Not a 5 star resort

We thought the resort was dated. Rooms were dated. You only got good service if you tipped all the time. Not enough A la carte restaurants. You couldnt change your towels by the pool...you had to wait for the maid in order to get new beach towels. Beach is amazing. Food was ok but got boring after a few days. Would not go back to this resort.

Iberostar Origin Laguna Azul: Not a 4 star resort - Maybe a 2 star

Went to the resort for a destination wedding of my Niece May 27 - June 3, 2017. What a "NIGHTMARE" from day 1. Rooms: Very 1st Day - No air-conditioning. Got another room the next day. The room had ants coming out of the sink and on the room floor. Cockroaches in the bathroom. The maid forgot to replace the towels - had to go ask for them. Food: Terrible - same food in the buffet - full of flies and birds all over the place. Most of us got sick (diarrhea) due to the food being infested with  [... read more]the flies. The Japanese was the only good restaurant. The snack bar (24 hours) had stale burgers (half cooked) & fries. The servers (cooks) expected tips if you needed fresh food. Had to pay for fish (snapper). Pools: Dirty: not being cleaned. Had to inform the personnel of someone "Pooh" in the pool. Stunk of pee. Beach - this was amazing. Entertainment: was good and the entertainment staff were amazing. Reception staff were amazing too. Wi-Fi: had to buy cards but most of the time would not connect and the card would say time run out. Overall: This is not a 4 - Star resort but a 2 - Star. Note: I had contacted the agent Tammy before we left regarding the ratings and was told not to look at the ratings and that this was an amazing resort - full of crap. If I could, I would have asked for a full refund the very next day I was there.

Melia Marina Varadero: very nice

Los Delfines: Comfortable resort, good value

Rooms and grounds were kept very clean. What I liked most is that you do not have to walk far to get anywhere at Los Delfines. Just a few steps and you were right on the beach, even from the rooms furthest away. The beach was wide, sandy and clean. What more could you ask for?

Iberostar Origin Tainos: Overall, very good stay

-Very well groomed grounds -The room was decent but not very clean. -The food is repetitive, not very varied -The beach is magical -The pools are clean and safe -The entertainment staff is always fun. Many activites to chose from -Snorkeling excursion offered on the beach by a separate company for 20 CUC was worthwhile -The Japanese restaurant offers a delicious menu and great service. The Grill restaurant was not good -Trips by taxi are very expensive but the guagua that runs along th [... read more]e main avenue is worthwhile at 5 CUC for the day -Tips are very welcome. They all work so hard!

Iberostar Origin Playa Alameda: Iberostar Playa Alameda - Ok

We chose this resort because it was an Iberostar. We were there 4 years earlier and were very impressed with the grounds, services, food, and room conditions. My how things can change in that time. The maid never once gave us clean sheets. Our fridge was not stocked on a daily basis. I broke my arm while falling on a wet drink spilled dance floor when we just got to the resort. Don't get me wrong, the people who serviced us otherwise were terrific and very accommodating. The whole resort is undergoing renovations, thus they didn't care to have the cable working in our room. Once again, we chose the resort for the brand name and reputation of fine quality service. Surely we should have been told that is was now owned by the Cuban government and was being renovated to be renamed. Absolutely great service from Trip Central, whom we will look at using again for our Christmas adventure, but we will never stay here again. Just a word of advice, check and make sure your resort is what its supposed to be, not just selling the brand without the service that is supposed to go with it. LINDA & PAUL

Sol Varadero Beach: Bad hotel

Sol Sirenas Coral is the hotel I requested as I stayed there last fall and I had asked for the 1000 building when we arrived we were put in the 7000 building which I had seen last fall and did not like it it is about 2 blocks away I was told the main hotel the 1000 and 2000 buildings were closed down in March the only think at the main hotel open was the pool but no services also when I arrived I told the host on the bus this was not the right place so we check in and went to the bar for a drink [... read more] and we were told only Rum drinks or beer were served here not being happy campers as I had showed my friend my pics from last trip of the hotel and talked him into booking well we each had our own room the next day we went to the Rep to tell him we were not happy as my request was the 1000 building well the he took me to the customer service office where the offered us a bottle of rum and special meals to try to get us to stay which I was not happy with so I asked to be moved to Villa Cuba where I had stayed befor in order to move we had to pay a extra $108.00 and also give up one room and share a room which we did and we enjoyed it the next day I was unpacking and remembered I left my money in the safe at the other hotel so I called and talked to a girl in customer service who said she would call the maintenance and have them go to open the safe and to call her back in 1 hour which I did and she said the maintenance guys were gone and to call back tomorrow the next day I called and she was off that day but another girl said she would call her to find out what was done and she would stop at Villa Cuba on her way home and leave a message for me at the front desk which never happened so at this point I knew it was gone so the day before check out I saw your Rep and told him so he called and found out new guest had check into the room and the safe was open on their arrival I just hope a poor Cuban is enjoying my $800.00

Roc Barlovento: Mediocre experience I would rate this hotel as more of a 2.5/3 stars, not 3.5, based on our experience!

I would rate this hotel a 2.5/3 stars, not 3.5 based on our experience! Here's why: BEACH: The beach was infested with sand ants so you couldn't lounge on the beach. You had to run from the ocean to the poolside to avoid getting bitten! It was very frustrating and not enjoyable at all if you enjoying sitting on the beach to read/lounge. No opportunity to dry off except if you didn't mind standing along the shoreline where the waves come in to air dry a little. You definitely needed some  [... read more]footwear while walking (...no, hustling) along the white sand. We brought lots of Deet so we were good. There is a plane that passes overhead to help keep the mosquitos at bay. The water was a gorgeous turquoise color, that was cooler in the mornings but got very warm in the afternoon. It only rained one day, but June is theit tropical storm season. The rain typically lasts only for about 15min intervals. FOOD: As for the food, it was mediocre - same items for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Wanted to reserve the Sushi bar but it's only available Monday evenings - would have liked to have known that beforehand. Then reserved the Mexican restaurant for Sunday dinner for 7pm, as it was the only availability. When we arrived it was closed the whole day with no sign of setting up. We went to the Concierge to inquire, who seemed surprised. She called the restaurant and was told it had been switched to another option "upstairs". We opted out and just went to the buffet instead. No surprise as to what was on the menu - leftovers from breakfast and lunch! Too bad as I think it would have been a nice experience. The cappuccino machine in the restaurant was broken for 2 days so you had to get your coffee from the bar to bring with you to the buffet. The area for the ROC Plus seating never felt the AC so it was a miss sitting there! The 24-hr bartenders were very friendly and the housekeeping staff was very nice too. The Concierge was always ready to help! The Beach Bar was never open during the daytime when we wanted something to eat so that was annoying. We had to hustle to the buffet, assuming it was during their operating hours. AMENITIES: On Sunday afternoon I purchased a small painting from Sili, the artist, and it was beautiful - freshly painted as it was still drying! (LOL!). I left it in my room to air dry some more and I loved it! Small ones are 10 CUC's and the large are 25 CUC's. The market down the street was great and we went twice! There was an annoying beggar who didn't want to take NO for an answer so we finally left. Too bad for that, though. There are cats around the site and they love meat, so don't bother with bread. I guess a carb-free diet helps keep them lean and trim! They are so cute!! ROOM: There are no screens on the sliding doors so you can't open the door for fresh air if you don't want mosquitos or ants getting in. That was a disappointment as we prefer to have the window open and AC off at night to enjoy the tropical breeze.

Starfish Jibacoa: Love villas jibacoa

Awsome staff, good food, love the villas, quiet, very clean ,good for hicking, with restaurants outsde the resort in walking distance ,close to SantaCruz where yo can take the bus and go shopping or to the bank where you can use the ATM, I will go back again .

Melia Peninsula Varadero: Disappointed

Hotel of 3 stars maximum. There is nothing to love to this resort. Beach : uneven Food : Poor menu and tasteless food Room : 3-star room Services : Detached and uninterested employees in providing services Example : 1 day without hot water, 3 days without light on resort alleys, 2 days without beach towels, 2 days without water to drink, We returned home with our legs and hands full of insect bites or food poisoning.

Club Kawama: Good resort

Very good resort. I had great time visiting this place. I got lovely deal . The service was great . I would recommend to visit this place . Lovely beach with clear water . The bar near the pool is open till 5am .Enjoyed drinks and food .The staff is very kind and helpful. On a funny side..there is a security guard in front of the lobby looks like Obama. He is very kind and helpful. I would recommend to drink bottle water rather tap water.

Occidental Arenas Blancas: Cheap and cheerful

Walk to town, friendly guests. Don't choose this resort for modern amenities, great service or great food. Choose it for the amazing fun atmosphere, short walk to town, best beach, great amenities that are actually used. I couldn't ask for a better vacation.

Playa Vista Azul: Beautiful resort and Friendly

The resort is beautiful, we love the pools, the people are friendly, just need improve the food they provide and to switch food more often. The restaurants are excellent, i like Blue Moon restaurant. The maids are friendly. Keep up great work!

Iberostar Origin Laguna Azul: 3rd Time and so Disappointed

The Hotel itself is beautiful. However this time it didn't make up for the poor service. I came across many rude servers often acting as though what you asked for was too much to ask. Was told multiple time NO to simple things like water. The buffet was covered in flies and birds eating the food and drinking water from the ice cream scoops. Our room smelled of mold and I didn't realize how bad it was until I got home opened my suitcase and that's all I could smell. There were prostitute [... read more]s on the resort trying to instigate trouble with our party.. so ladies watch your men. Spend your hard earned money elsewhere!

Club Kawama: Great Resort

I have been there 3 time in the last year and every time I go there is a little something else they have renovated. The only complaint I have is all 3 time I have asked to have a room to shower and change my clothes, there is never a room available which is very annoying.
