I traveled to Mexico on a nine day get away. I vacation outside of Canada annually .The trip was shared with my husband, adult daughter and her partner. Two rooms on the third floor of Villa 19 in the gated resort of The Grand Bahai Principe Tulum. Villa was located in a gorgeous setting. The room door and sheltered entrance faced the jungle and a sheltered shuttle stop. The patio door overlooked the perfectly placed neighboring villas, manicured gardens and lawns, paved resor[... read more]t streets iluminated with street lights. Both day and night wild life could be seen, loved it.The room is in its original style with fresh paint. Original furniture has been re-invented and looks good. Comfortable Bed. Excellent towels, Linens and pillows, they were all fresh, clean and very inviiting. Great tv with good reception. Mary our assigned Cleaning staff member ensured our room was spotless on a daily basis.
Food was very good. Always enjoyed our meals.
Pools were beautiful, beach was great, beach has rocks and coral, bring water shoes and this is enjoyable as you get to see all the fish that are near these areas.
This area is particularly calm and quiet. Location lends itself to so many attractions as there are many very close by.to name a few less than 10km away Jungle Place,Cenote Santa Cruz,Dolphinaris,Akumal Beach,Turtle Snorkle,Xel-ha, Monkey Sanctuary,XCachel,Golf Club,Akumal Bay,Half Moon Bay, Mexicarte Shopping,Budha Gardens, etc.
At the entrance all transportation and luggage is handled. There is a taxi price list for your viewing. This area will call your taxi for you. Many taxis fit 4, the driver plus 3. A bigger car was requested for our group of 4. Same price.
I was welcomed as an appreciated guest by all staff members that I came in contact with, they were kind, courteous, and willing and equiped to handle any request.
Photos of restort are true to actual;. What photos cannot capture is the friendly atmosphere created by the entertainment, the guests and staff interacting and how it nourishes your very stay.
This huge resort is divided and each resort has its own specialty.
Tulum offered us the pleasing view of dolphins onsite. The resort offers everything, one could have a long visit and never need to leave the property. To name a few Casino, Pharmacy, Shopping, Performance Theatre, Coffee Station, Meals, Ala Carte Restaurants, Beach Bar, Pools etc. Everything they promise is onsite.
My family of four enjoyed the happy people (both staff and guests)everywhere. 2019 is our next target visit.

Akumal Bay Beach and Spa Resort: Great Resort
The staff never stopped from morning to night cleaning, repairing and serving. The grounds were clean to perfection every morning. The room was a junior suite ocean view which allowed for a spectacular sunset and sunnup. While out for supper the bed was turned down and a towel origami left on the bed. Close enough to go on tours to ruins and other places. Will be returning soon for another visit. Thank you to Krista for a great recommendation.

Blue Bay Grand Esmeralda: Blue Bay Grand Esmeralda
Overall the resort is very good. Clean, tidy and generally well kept. The staff are very friendly and helpful. More attention and expedience could be spent on maintenance. For example the one elevator was out of order all the time we were there as was the only ice machine on our floor. The day we arrived we reported that a face plate had fallen off an electrical outlet and that the rod to close the drapes was not actually connected to the drapes, These minor items were not fixed during our stay.[... read more] On our last night we were denied the opportunity to reserve for dinner at one of the on site restaurants we were told that we had only the choice to use the buffet or go to a "special BBQ" for Air transat passengers which they called a promo for "long term accommodation" ( read time share). We do not care for BBQs but they would not budge. The resort blamed Air transat and the air transit rep blamed to resort.

El Dorado Royale: Wonderful vacation away from the cold!
El Dorado Royale was a nice resort with lovely grounds and excellent food. The beach was a bit disappointing as it was generally steep, dirty most of the time, and very little safe areas to swim if you wanted due to the surf and rocks. That said, there were lots of restaurants and bars to choose from and the serving staff were excellent.

Tukan Hotel Playa Del Carmen: Beautiful resort.
This resort is in the perfect location in Playa Del Carmen. It is on the main shopping street but is far back enough that no noise from people walking and shopping can be heard. Resort about a half block from Scotia Bank, fifteen minute walk to Walmart, about ten minute walk to Mega store and about ten to fifteen minute walk to ocean. When too wavy to swim in ocean, pool at hotel was perfect to dip into and to sit around and read and relax. Rooms were perfect. Beds and pillows very comfortab[... read more]le. Occidental at Xcaret Destination: large resort in a jungle setting
We arrived at the Occidental in the late evening, they gave us a quick overview and a map of the resort. The resort shuttled us to our building where our room was. Our room was a very nice room, but damp and moldy. If you want to watch tv, good luck as it was hit and miss everyday whether there was reception and my partner wanted to watch the superbowl. We got tv on the last 10 seconds of the game. The first morning we had to find our way through a maze of trails to the buffet on the beach. The[... read more] food was limited and cold, but very tasty. We found the lobby buffet for lunch through the maze of trails and pathways. The buffet was amazing for lunch and dinner. The lunch buffet at the pool is also very tasty and a great variety. There are no signs to help you find your way around saying which way was what so you are always asking for assistance. This is a very large resort area. It took 3 days to figure out which way to go to find our way around. The resort is beautiful with all the wildlife and beautiful plants throughout. The resort is shared with monkeys, birds and land creatures. There are signs telling you not to feed the animals, but no information of what these animals are. Many people were confused on which way to go to find the buildings and where everything was located. Signage would help not to waste time to help find your way around. We got moved from the first floor to the third. I went outside on the balcony, closed the door and realized I was locked out. I lifted the patio door and was released from the balcony as there was no one to help get me back into the room. So the sliding doors are not break in proof. Dont close the patio door if you go out on the balcony. The staff, food and resort is amazing. There is an area near the lobby with a few $$ shops on, so you dont need to leave the resort unless you need anything from a pharmacy. A small pharmacy would be of assistance for sure. As I said the food is amazing and there is no waiting. The steak house, chinese and mexican restraunt is very nice with a limited menu. The menus dont change so you know what to expect each day. A lot of walking though. The resort is clean and the staff works very hard to keep it that way. The staff is very friendly and there is a lot of staff asking you to go on the tour to join their resort club, dont bother wasting your time to get the free bottle of tequila. The resort has daily activities and nightly entertainment. We had fun joining in on the activities around the fantastic pool area and the nitely entertainment is very good, we made a lot of friends. Most of the guests are middle age. It is a quiet, respectful resort with no drunk unruly guests. The area near the ocean is quite a walk from nearly all the rooms. The beach club is quiet in the lagoon and another small walk takes you to the ocean. The area at the ocean is not for swimming. There are rocks and a strong current. Old mayan ruins are still on site and it is very picturesque. Would I recommend the Occidental at Xcaret? If the price is right .... possibly now that we know our way around.

Akumal Bay Beach and Spa Resort: Fabulous Relaxing Holiday (Nov 2017)
ABBWR is on the list of places to go again (and again). Everything from the grounds to the staff to the food were everything you'd expect and better. As travelers with accessibility issues it is often difficult to get around but NOT at ABBWR. Everything was easy to access and the staff are always willing to assist. Cesar the Beach Manager was a godsend in helping us find a sunbed/lounge near our room that was easy to reach and available when we were. The grounds are well kept and clean, the[... read more] gardens beautiful. I just wish people didn't walk through the Zen garden. We thoroughly enjoyed all our meals. We found some amazing foods as well as some simple comforting soups and such. Everything always seemed fresh and plentiful. Sushi by the beach was one of those little mid day treats that just made the resort better. Snorkelling off the beach seeing turtles, rays, and fish galore was one of our reasons for coming back (we were here in 2007) and it didn't disappoint. It is a resort of simple luxury, not pretentious, but comforting and relaxing.

Beautiful resort. Very clean, spacious rooms, great restaurants and buffets.
Drinks were plentiful. Wait & bar staff very respectful . Cloth napkins were a very nice touch. Food was well prepared. Pools were very nice. Beach was nice but there was seaweed, but was cleaned up every day.
Rooms were spacious, clean. Pillows, mattress, towels were great.

Bahia Principe Escape Sian Ka'an: Wonderful Resort
Enjoyed our stay. Wonderful friendly staff. Food at a la cart restaurants was fantastic!!
We had access to other resorts and went to them for meals, beaches and entertainment.
Enjoyed the Michael Jackson show and saw it twice. The theatre at Akumal was a perfect venue and sound system etc. was top notch. Show at Sian Ka'an was terrible. Poor acoustics, no integrated video support and people were walking out. (Show at Akumal was standing room only).
The grounds at Sian Ka'an were beautiful a[... read more]nd staff were constantly sweeping, and caring for the gardens.
The room: We upgraded to a Junior Penthouse suite. Large area but painted all white and felt like a hospital ward. No colour and no decor. Expected a Mexican motif. Roof top patio was very dated and drab. Hot tub was difficult to get in and out of. Pillars were rusted. Our first hot tub was a disaster. Had to call front desk as there were ants all over the outside of the tub and crawling on walls and floor. A maid was sent up with a tin of bug spray which she emptied. The ants were killed on contact. Our mood was also killed!! This area was washed down the next day but still had dead ants visible.
In Closing: If we return we would NOT stay at Sian Ka'an. We would stay at Akumal. Beautiful beaches. Great entertainment. Great restaurants.

Royalton Hideaway Riviera Cancun: Disappointed with resort -
Room was nice - not the unobstructed oceanview I was expecting - housekeeping was disappointing - had to ask to have black mold from around sinks removed, behind bathroom door was not cleaned at all, late room cleaning interferred with getting ready to go to dinner, when I asked to have room cleaned earlier it was a very poor job done - I felt like I put them out and that was pay back.
Used indoor Jacuzzi - dirt and someone else's hair came out of the jets and into my bath water - grossed me ou[... read more]t
Food at the buffet was cold - no matter what time I went - fruit selection was pineapple and melons - to make your own salad was a job on its own
Evening entertainment was very good - daytime was okay - music at the Hideaway tended to be geared towards the younger crowd and was very loud
Travelling solo meant being ignored - waiters / butlers gravitated to the couples around me
Never did find where food was available 24 hrs other than room service and that selection was limited.
A la carte's more worried about presentation than quantity or quality of food. Ordered Oven baked potatoe and grilled asparagus as a side at Dorado restaurant - got 3 pieces of potatoe wedges and 3 pieces of asparagus that wasn't cooked properly. Ceasar salad ordered at Hunter Steakhouse consisted of 3 really large pieces of Romaine lettuce wrapped in rolls and placed dramatically on a "drizzle" of dressing - difficult to cut the lettuce and not send it flying off the plate

Ocean Riviera Paradise: Amazing resort!
Well kept grounds, staff speak good English, very courteous. Nicest resort Ive ever been to. Food was great, entertainment excellent. Resort not too big, not too small. Rooms were outstanding, I had the best sleeps ever on that bed. Beach was lovely, hard to get a spot under grassy roofed umbrellas. Always lots of chairs at pools but have to get to beach to get good spot.

Ocean Maya Royale: Amazing Adult Only All-Inclusive
We totally enjoyed our experience. The grounds were amazing and extremely clean. As were all the buildings on the site. The food buffet was always filled with anything you could possibly want. Everything was fresh and tasty. The Italian restaurant could use a little more pasta variety and sauces. I look forward to returning one day. The pools were excellent, but unfortunately the water was very rough and the beach was a little murky.

Platinum Yucatan Princess: Great Resort But With One Problem
I just got back from this resort, I was there from Jan 28 til Feb4. The resort was very clean...great food and drinks....I ate at the steakhouse, Japanese and Italian ala cartes and loved them. The service from the staff was fantastic and the weather was good for 6 of the days. Liked the fact that you had access to all 3 resorts. Swimming pools in all 3 of the resorts were good. The foam party was great...went on for over 2 hours. My only complaint of the resort was the beach. Very rocky in spot[... read more]s and a lot of washed out areas. Some places you had to climb down an almost 3 foot sloped bank to get to the beach. The water was shallow and was not very good to swim in as you had to get out past the buoys to get deep water. There were a lot of loungers to lay on in the sun or in the shade. The two beach grills and bars were great. But I love to be able to swim in the ocean and be able to go out and enjoy the waves in deeper water. But if you want a beach just to lay on a lounger and enjoy the sounds of the ocean and maybe read a book then this is good. It is a fantastic resort but for me I probably won't go back because of the beach.

This resort is amazing in every way. Immaculate clean grounds and rooms, delicious food and beautiful beaches and pools. The ocean floor is rocky so bring water shoes. Average age of guests was older so it was fun without being very wild. People who want to party can go to the sister resorts. We had an amazing time. Definitely will be back.

Selection Riviera Cancun: Small yet provides all amenities
We stayed at this resort for 2 weeks. Jan.21- Feb.4, 2018.
One of the things we look for when choosing a resort is its proximity to the airport. I absolutely hate having to travel 1 to 2 hours on a bus dropping off or picking up people. This resort is very close to the airport approx. 15 - 20 min drive. Perfect location for us.
A very comfortable, clean full service resort. Pays attention to detail. A la cartes are true a la cartes with exceptional service.
Outstanding food. We avoided the[... read more] buffet as much as possible as we find we tend to fill our plates too easily and too much. LOL But the buffet does offer much selection. One day I asked if they ever served onion soup. They said yes but offered to make it for me whenever I wanted. So I asked if I could have it the next day. They asked what time. The next day we went up to the buffet at the time requested and they were standing waiting for us. The soup was served immediately. Now that's what I call service! Thanks to the chef and Oscar the waiter.
OMG the bread and pastries are beyond delicious. Hot, fresh right out of the oven. We usually ate breakfast at the Caribbean Restaurant which provided full service. Janet the hostess was extra special always greeting us with her beautiful smile and sweet personallity. The smoked salmon and eggs Benedict were beyond delicious. Mimosas were a treat as well as the bottle of Baileys sitting out to add that special touch to delicious coffee. A few things are extras ex. Tomahawk steak. We did order it one night. It was well worth the price we paid. I'd say the best steak we've ever had. Cooked to perfection. The same steak at a very popular venue we went to in NYC costs 3X's the amt.
Drinks are okay. I'm not a lover of all those sweet drinks and they use those syrups which are not my fav either. The Mojito bar, up in the lobby area, use real fruit if you ask. Strawberry Mojitos are amazing. Can never go wrong with wine and beer which were very good. One thing they did serve was Captain Morgan "white" rum. First resort we've ever been to that had this usually the only Captain Morgan served is Spiced. At times they did run out of different liquors ie Crown Royal, 43 Liquor, Tequila Cream. When asked if they had any "maybe later". That should not happen but certainly there were lots of other choices available. Breakfast and lunch are also served directly on the beach. Nothing like being able to enjoy a meal outside with your feet in the sand feeling that heat on your body.
At the Tapas restaurant there is no menu but the food choices served changes 3 x's a week. There are 6 different courses all small, delicious and very filling. One of our fav restaurants. The Mexican restaurant has a more relaxed fun atmosphere. They focus on entertaining their guests while enjoying a great meal. The Italian restaurant is also great. OMG the tiramisu is to die for.The Caribbean restaurant was another of our favourites. This is the restaurant that has full service breakfast as well. There is a bar just outside this restaurant where Louis the bartender provides exceptional service and whatever drink you can think of as long as his bar is stocked with what you request.
There is excellent nightly entertainment in main lobby as well in an area just outside the lobby.
We also spent extra to go to the Chic Diamond rated restaurant. They served a 16 course meal consisting of very small samples. The presentation was amazing and the service was over the top. We had lovely evening which lasted for about 2 1/2 -3 hours. I'm sill not sure what we had to eat as everything was very unique.
I really can't say anything negative about this resort. It provided us with everything we needed for 2 weeks. We are beach people so we never laid around the pool. Beach drink service is provided if you wish to use it.The beach is constantly being freed of seaweed. We did not go into the water but that's just who we are. There were plenty of people who did. The beach is also easy to walk on in either direction. We meant many wonderful people mainly a UK and Canadian destination at least during the time we were there.
I have no hesitations in recommending this resort.
