The Eurostars Grand Cayacoa: Great resort

This hotel was impeccably clean. The staff was very friendly and the beach was nice. There was at times quite a bit of garbage in the water at the beach that washed up from the city of Samana, however the staff did work at cleaning it up.

Bahia Principe Explore Jamaica: Excellent Stay - amazing food!

This is a VERY large resort, so lots of walking and stairs. Very good variety of food. Grounds are well maintained. Lots of lounge chairs. May not be prime location but lots to choose from. Well organized check in and check out.

Bahia Principe Escape Sian Ka'an: Beyond impressed!!

We stayed in a penthouse jaccuzzi suite in block 6 and were thrilled with it. The only problem we had with the room was the lock on the door to our patio broke right off (but it was fixed in a flash) and the toilet was a pain in the butt (no pun intended) to flush ;) The food was absolutely spectacular. Plenty of choice and everything was fresh. I have gluten and dairy allergies and upon check in I was given a letter that explained my eating restrictions. I just had to hand the letter to anyone  [... read more]working in the buffets (or at the a la cartes) and a chef would walk me through the entire buffet and point out what I could and couldn't eat. They even made me fresh gluten free rolls every morning! I'm not a big pasta eater but they'll also make gluten free pasta upon request too, it just takes 10-15 minutes extra for them to whip it up. Sian Ka'an was super quiet during the day, no music at 2 of the pools, you could almost hear a pin drop. Ideal for a lazy day of reading (or catching some zzz's by the pool). Most days, if we weren't on an excursion, we would head down to the Sian Kaan beach for a few hours, then head up to the Akumel buffet for lunch. Again, there the buffet was plentiful and sooooo delicious!! After lunch we spent most afternoons at the Akumel pool down by the beach. It had a bit more going on than our pool. No games or anything, but it was livelier than the Sian Kaan pool area. The pools were all beautiful but they were freeeeezing! Even in the heaviest heat of the afternoon, they were too cold to sit in for any length of time. I love swim up pool bars but we couldn't take advantage of any of them on the trip since the water was so frigid. We did the catamaran tour one day and it was terrific, windy, but that made it more exciting with the waves. The lunch they served was a fresh bento box (Yum!) and they have a photographer on board that will snap a bunch of pics of you (staged or candids) throughout the trip. Her name is Michelle Ackermann and it was absolutely worth the $50 we paid. We split it with another couple we met down there, and we received 30+ great quality photos (she emails you a link a few days after the trip). Again, in my opinion, it`s so worth it! We also did the playa del Carmen trip through the hotel. It`s an hour in a local silver jewellery store (way too long in my opinion), and 2 hours in playa del Carmen. We loved, loved, loved playa del Carmen, the food, the shopping, the people watching. If I had it to do over, we`d just get a taxi ($40 USD) and head directly to playa del Carmen. 2 hours wasn`t nearly enough time for us to do and see everything we wanted to, especially since we needed to go to the local walmart to pick up some supplies. We were rushing around and didn`t get to really enjoy all the town had to offer. All in all, it was such a wonderful trip though! With the other Bahia resorts included in the package, it was like 4 vacations in one! We`ll definitely be back!

Bahia Principe Grand San Juan: BAHIA PRINCIPE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC

THE HOTEL WAS GREAT EXCEPT THERE COULD HAVE HAD A COFFEE MAKER IN ROOM, YOU HAD TO WAIT UNTIL 6:30 AM TO GET A COFFEE WHICH IS A BUMMER IF YOU ARE A EARLY RISER, THEN YOU HAD A FAR WALK TO GET ONE, ALSO THEY SHOULD SUPPLY FACECLOTHS, WE TOOK OUR OWN BECAUSE I READ REVIEWS BEFORE WE LEFT, FOOD WAS GREAT, ALCARTE WAS SUPER,AND DRINKS WERE GOOD, BUT BRING YOUR OWN GLASS FROM HOME AS THEY SERVE DRINKS IN SMALL SIZE, STAFF WERE FRIENDLY AND HELPFUL, IT WAS A VERY CLEAN RESORT, POOL WAS CLEAN AND LARG [... read more]E, LOTS OF GREAT ACTIVITIES, WEATHER WAS NICE.

Bahia Principe Explore Akumal: Nice Resort

A 1.5 hr bus ride from Cancun. Stayed in the Akumel portion of the resort. Very clean. Great service. Lots of Beach chairs. Great a la carte restaurants. Buffets were beyond expectations..lots of variety. Place never seemed to be crowded. Great service at the bars. Have been to resorts with nicer beaches...however beaches were clean...no sea weed as reported by others. Resort is ideal for couples looking for a relaxing vacation...it was not a wild time..my honey says it was "romantic". Only atte [... read more]nded one "show" at the resort...it was ok. Rooms were fine...comfortable beds with mattress toppers. The grounds are well kept and very clean..lots of wildlife at the resort. Trolleys are available to take you to other parts of the resort or to your rooms...it is a very large resort...there are 4 "campuses" at this resort.

Grand Bahia Principe Roulette: Third time's a charm!!

This is our third time at Bahia Principe El Portillo, first in 2007, and then 2010. We have always found the Bahia's a cut above for service and quality, this being our 5th Bahia over the last 8 years. The staff are generally accommodating and helpful to most reasonable requests, the food was of good variety and tastefully prepared and the other amenities like bars and entertainment equal to many Caribbean resorts. Of course the usual gang of idiots would save lounges by the pool and never show  [... read more]up until the end of the day, but hey, that happens almost everywhere. I suggest just taking the abandoned towels back to the towel hut as lost property, or just toss them into the garden!! The bottom line is if your are hard to please and You know who you are ... stay home!!!

Bahia Principe Explore Akumal: Worth going to

I was hesitant about Mexico, but the resort was GREAT. Food and Drink were plentiful and really good. Buffets were very good with a wide range of food offered. The Al a Carte resturants were very good. There are a few items that would need addressing by the hotel. One was their internal transportation service. It was lacking. There were trolleys about abut you had to wait along time for one to show up and there were very few pickup places. Secondly our room was a Jr. suite and very nice. Bahia Principe Explore Coba: Nice resort for the price

Nice resort, very clean rooms, good food. Weather was ok, could have been a touch warmer but good enough. Only complaint is that its far from airport, 2hr drive. Not ideal if travelling with kids. Otherwise the resort represents excellent value.

Bahia Principe Explore Tulum: Exceptional resort. Very clean and well maintained

Staff very friendly. Good variety of food. Cleanliness over the whole resort was exceptional. Entertainment shows was varied and all where excellent. We wish all entertainment shows were held in the theatre not the main bar which has limited seating and poor visibility.

My husband and I returned from one week at the Gran Baha’i Principe, La Romana on Feb 18th. Having travelled to several destinations in the Caribbean staying at different resorts, we were well prepared. We had read Trip Advisor and done lots of research and knew that some people were getting ill at this resort but felt that they were not being sensible, maybe drinking too much, drinking the tap water or eating off site. We therefore were going to abide by all the rules for Caribbean travel. W [... read more]e arrived mid afternoon on Wednesday to a beautiful resort – sun was shining, check in was easy and smooth and we got one of the buildings we had requested – Villa 26. The balcony had a lovely ocean view and it was only a few steps to the pool. Lovely!! The grounds are gorgeous, beautiful well kept shrubs and flowers, palm trees etc. The pool had clear blue water and was a great temperature. The room was spacious, well appointed with a hard but comfortable king sized bed, a table and chairs, and a couch. The bathroom was very clean and spacious with double sinks but the shower/tub was small. Eventually we learned that the water from the shower was luke warm only. As other people have reported, the ocean is cloudy and the beach is hard packed brown sand. We are not beach people though and the surroundings are pretty with staff cleaning all the time so it didn’t bother us. The entire resort is a bit tired but very clean and well kept. The staff overall at the resort were polite but not overly friendly or helpful. Free Wifi in the lobby is a nuisance – hard to login and you get 60 consecutive minutes a day… Now to the issues… the food and drinks!! On arrival, we were told to get our lunch before the main buffet closed and to wait for our room to be ready. We were greeted at the restaurant by the Hostess and given hand sanitizer – that perhaps should have been our first clue. The buffet was more than disappointing – all the hot food was cold to warm and the food in general tasted bland. People in the restaurant were talking about the fact that others were ill so be careful what you eat. Honestly, at a resort of this calibre, you should be able to eat everything. The food did not improve at all during the week. On the second day at our Transat Vacations briefing, we were warned not to drink the slushy drinks as they sometimes ‘make people ill’. My husband stuck to beer and pop all week with no ice. I tried my best to stay away from slushy drinks but found that hard as there really aren’t many other options and I don’t drink beer. These resorts interest me for the pina coladas and margaritas etc. In any case, I drank far less that I usually would often drinking bottled water at the pool. However, I always had ice. The A La Carte Restaurants were not much better than the buffet – however the Seafood one was good and my food was actually hot! On Sunday, I came down with something – was extremely ill with diarrhea and severe cramping. I honestly never ate or drank again at the resort except bottled water and was confined to my room and the toilet until mid Tuesday. On Tuesday night, my husband was taken down with diarrhea first and then vomiting. I have not seen him that sick before. We travelled back to Canada popped full of drugs on Wednesday. Neither of us was able to consume food until Thursday/Friday. This should not happen!! When we told the Transat Vacations rep and the staff at the Gran Baha’i, they really didn’t seem to care. At least half the people we spoke to at both sides of this resort had been ill during the week. On the bus to the Punta Cana Airport several people from our resort were ill and one was vomiting on the ride. If you choose to travel to this resort in the DR, bring lots of gravol and immodium and be prepared! I would not recommend coming here until they completely disinfect and do something about the food pre and clean water. There is no water purification plant on site.

Bahia Principe Explore Akumal: fabulous, fabulous, fabulous

everything was outstanding: service, food, beach, entertainment. The only complaint I may have is that not all staff spoke English and sometimes hard to communicate but all else was excellent. I'd highly recommend it. Oh, another drawback is that it's a little far from Cancun airport but I hear an airport in Tulum is going in! One more: I caught a virus and i think it's from the circulating air from A/C, I'm very healthy person and had no reason to be sick during holidays.

Bahia Principe Explore Punta Cana: Beautiful Resort

We returned from this resort on Wednesday night. We had a great time. The resort is huge but the train service was easy and frequent. The a la cart restaurants were 5/5!! Book early to get your choices. The service was great and they treated you like you were important wven with the sheer number of people. There was something foe everyone at this resort!

Bahia Principe Explore El Portillo: Good but not amazing

The resort is OK, the food was good, service nice, room good. However the resort was overcrowded and to get a chair had to get up at 6 AM. The pool was packed with kids that are jumping and splashing around. The lobby is missing some natural flowers and vegetation; I was amazed to see that all flower are made of plastic and the central piece consist of palms made of metal. The beach is nice, long and just right for long walks. The trip to and from the airport was fast and very well organized. Th [... read more]e fact that we had to pay extra for a safe in the room isn't exactly what we expected since this is a all inclusive resort and you need to put your valuables somewhere. Overall, I cannot say that this was a bad experience but next time I will try something else for sure.

Bahia Principe Escape Ambar: First timer

Where do I start? Well for one the resort at the Ambar is beautiful the grounds are gorgeous,the beach couldn't ask for better the only complaint would be that as an adult only resort the entertainment is very minimal everything shut down at 11pm if you want to see entertainment you have to go the other resort where's there kids which to me it doesn't make any sense the reason we paid more to stay at an all adult resort is to be with no kids. Great hotel. Pool area and beaches excellent. Food was good. Japaneese restaurant was the best! Don pablo restaurant always booked. Best to reserve beforeyou go. Check in was fast and easy. Ground beautiful.resort is big. Good for strolling.

I really liked the LGBPA..food was good, staff were awesome, layout was great. Though I was disappointed to see things like $28USD sunblock and $11USD Lays chips. Wifi was equally expensive...$50 for a week? Yeah I pay that a month in Canada, and this is the DR? Lots of little clawbacks...not my fave all-inclusive, but certainly still pretty good...

We visited the Royalton Resort last year around the same month in February and this year the Luxury Bahia Principe Esmeralda so writing a fair review on the Royalton last year was not really a fair option as I had not visited a comparable 5 star property resort. Both resorts are very, very nice with great beach access, and are about a 30-minute walk down the beach from each other. Both resorts have rooms close to the beach although the Royalton is on a smaller scale of a resort which is not a good or bad thing however just a preference. Large Bahia Principe 3700 rooms vs. small Royalton 470 rooms If you have young children the Bahia offers a great kids park which the Royalton does not. Grounds Bahia Esmeralda : Very nice, well groomed Royalton : Very nice, well groomed Rooms Bahia Esmeralda, Contemporary style Royalton , Modern style Food & Restaurant’s Bahia Esmeralda A++ great variety, B- for locations- to spread out throughout the resort long walk or need to trollycart. Spend some money and put in a Casino that your guests want to stay and play at.. I witnessed to many leaving your resort to go play at the Hard Rock Casino. Build it as close to the beach as possible with easy access for all the island visitors.The leaking roof with bowls on the floor? Royalton - B- ok need more machines, Bahia Esmeralda , Unfortunately, We seen a lot of rain during our stay. the one thing I did noticed was many people falling and hurting themselves... They have many places that need rug runners. "The area over by the coffee machine" outside tents should be permanently covered, and if not carpet runner for the open floor spaces between the building and the tents as that area is a H&S concern. All in all both places are nice however, I felt pampered at the Royalton and not so much at the Bahia Esmeralda. Your vacation is what you make it!

Bahia Principe Escape Sian Ka'an: Excellent resort

Very clean and well maintained. Staff was so friendly and raised the bar for service. We couldn't have been treated better anywhere. We have travel throughout the Caribbean extensively and Grand Bahia has always been at the top of our choices. We will return.

Bahia Principe Explore Jamaica: Our second trip here...

This was our second visit to BPJ. Traveled the week of Feb 11th-18th. Requested the same rooms as last time and were not disappointed. The resort is in need of a little TLC but all in all a great time. We never had any complaints with the food or service and our rooms were always kept immaculate by staff. I must admit, the most questionable area in need of immediate improvement would be the beach area where the breakwall has serious signs of erosion behind it. They actually had caution tape acro [... read more]ss a 50M section and it's certainly not something I would have expected to see as a remaining issue one full year later. Truly an eyesore and completely unnecessary IMO. The weather was fabulous for us (45 mins of rain one day even though the forecast was predicted "rain" for 5 of 7 days). Would I recommend the resort? Yes. Would I return. No. Simply a big world out there and twice is good enough for us.

Bahia Principe Escape Sian Ka'an: A royal treat!

Loved everything about this adult-only resort! Room was comfortable. Food was great! Pool areas were clean and well maintained! Beaches were easily accessible by tramways or an easy 20-minute walk. Exceptional services provided by all staff! This is a place to remember.... It met our expectations.
