Barcelo Solymar: Amazing

check in was fast and front desk was pleasant, our rooms were amazing we booked the bungalow suite and it was perfect. the pool was clean and having access to the Arenas resort was a bonus. Ive been to cuba 15 times and I will honestly say the food was the best ive had in Varadero. location is great as I enjoy going to Calle 62 which is still in walking distance. Resonance Blu Varadero: A great stay

The room and grounds were lovely. The activities were great and the staff friendly. I liked the beach aqua-fit and the band in the evening. The beaches were wonderful and excursions too- go on the catamaran! The only downside was the late airport pick up. The Sunwing desk was closed at the time of my early departure so when the bus didn't come at the time stated, I had no one to answer my questions. Paradisus Princesa Del Mar: We really enjoyed ourselves here!

Like all resort reviews, beauty is in the eye of the beholder but here is our synopsis: - Great staff - very willing to service from front desk to lobby bar to restaurants. Never had to wait more than a few minutes for any assistance - Food in general was very good. "Hits and Misses" like any other place in the world, but overall we never went hungry - Rooms were nice a spacious, nice rain shower. This [... read more] will likely deter us form coming to Cuba again because after 4 trips to 4 and 5 star resorts it was disappointing to see the quality of the beds were all just as bad - very hard which I suppose is okay for some folks. But really we are talking about the equivalent to a Box spring being used as a mattress. - Beach was fantastic! - Gym was okay BUT desperately needed air conditioning or at very least, some fans to cool off patrons. - Pools nice but too small and much too shallow - Entertainment was excellent! - hardly any moquitoes to speak of, they spray the resort regularly to keep them at bay. But they are worse in my backyard in the summer so overall pretty good. - Spa service were AMAZING - very talented staff!

Sanctuary at Grand Memories Varadero: Relaxing Retreat

This intimate feeling resort was exactly what we were looking for. The scale of our side of the resort allowed for a relaxing retreat. We had the ability to access the Grand Memories larger side for restaurants and events but only when we wanted to. We were completely contained within Sanctuary if that was what we wanted. It allowed the staff to be personal and friendly. It allowed the opportunity for the other guest to become acquainted. Not a party atmosphere unless you wanted it to be.  [... read more] Food was fine. There were times that it wasn't consistent when ordering the same thing. Room could have been cleaner in areas and housekeeping services could have been consistent with the towels etc but this did not alter the great time I was having. I went knowing I was going to Cuba not in Canada. Loved the Butler service especially Maurico, Rubin, Juan and then bar staff at the pool side.

Iberostar Selection Varadero: Exceeded our Expectations

We stayed at this resort May 18th for a week and were very happy with our stay. It seems all you hear is that be prepared for the food as it isn't very good. We didnt find this at all. This resort has an exceptional buffet that had tons of variety and was changed up each night. We ate at all 3 restaurants on site and would have preferred the buffet..they were more in the line of what you hear of cuba food. Beach is very nice and pool area had lots of chairs to pick from. Drinks are hit and miss  [... read more]and the cafe was an awesome bonus for afternoon tea and snack. Rooms were great with comfortable beds. Resort is a nice size for walking. instead of the tours we took a taxi to the caves and havana...as cool as a classic car sounds for travelling to havana keep in mind there isn't air conditioner and made for a long day and we wished we would have used a regular taxi which is what we did for the rest of the trips. Wifi worked well in the lobby area but that is about it. You pay for a card that costs $2 CAD for 1 hour.

Blau Varadero: Excellent Resort *The Blau Varadero*

First off it's our 4th time to this resort we love it so much and the Staff are wonderful and extremely helpful. Resort and grounds are kept immaculate, rooms are clean, if there is something you need do not hesitate to ask the front desk. This resort as of November 2016 was changed to an Adults only resort. we missed having the kids around playing and having fun but it was so nice to have that peaceful bliss of quietness as well. The Buffet which has a theme every night was good as well, what we say is if you don't like the looks of it move on there is plenty of food to choose from. We find some travellers expect the best of everything and please just a reminder this is CUBA and they try their hardest to prepare good meals daily for 700-800 people, don't be so quick to judge. Put yourself in their position these people work very hard to make sure your vacation is a great one. We had a gorgeous room 1038, recently renovated, ocean view absolutely breath taking. Our chambermaid Annia cleaned our room daily, left beautiful towel art on our bed. Was so nice to come back to a cool and clean room. Little items are appreciated like, makeup, deodorant, nylons etc. They work hard and deserve something to show your appreciation. The bar staff at the main bar so much fun, we have made great friends with all and consider them to be our extended family. Adelys makes the best Spanish Coffee!!!!! We miss them all What more can we say, this Resort is lovely, beach is beautiful, pool is refreshing & the drinks are plenty and cold. Big thank you to our adopted Cuban daughter Rocio Fructose Morales-Public Relations/Customer Service, this young lady works her ASS off 12-15 hours a day to ensure your stay is a fabulous one, from making sure your room is ok to making sure there is a birthday/anniversary cake for you at your dinner table. Valentin El Patriarca Varadero: beautiful resort

rooms are ok , food is not so good, services are just fair. there is not much choices for food, almost the same everyday. A la carte restaurants are not that great. Beach and pool is good. Not much shade on the pool. Beach restaurant food is not good.

Melia Marina Varadero: Very good value

Very good value package (around 1000$) for Cuba. Hotel is 4 years old, could use some minor maintenance (sinks draining slow, cabinet doors not closing, bridge over road with cracked planks) but no major worry signs or fun breakers. Room was cleaned daily, fridge stocked, A/C worked good. Food was repetitive but tasty and for the price was great. Service at the buffet was good, but is only one buffet that proved insufficient when in the last 3 days a few hundred Cubans arrived. 25-30 min wai [... read more]ting to get in the buffet and you cant beat Cubans at getting ahead in a lineup. A la carte restaurants are OK with the french being best and others just trying to keep up with their theme. Pool is clean but is like being in a melting pot as the wind does not blow through. Beach is nice but small compared to the size of resort and across the road on a 4-5 min walk or 2 min with the shuttle cart. Bars are good with all the bartenders knowledgeable and fast. The best bar is the lobby which has the only espresso machine. Five star goes to all Cubans working at the resort for their efforts. Expect all the trips in and out of resort to take the most (1hour 20 min to airport) as the resort is the last in the Varadero peninsula and buses stop at all other resorts to pick and drop people off. Day trip to Havana colonial is worth the money if you buy it in the plane and if you like to see old buildings ( some of them that are not in their best shape due to neglect). Excellent guide Kenya. Was fun and our best Cuba holiday so far.

Iberostar Selection Varadero: Awesome Resort

We are a family of 12 with ages from 19 to 86 who spent the week of May 15-22 at Iberostar Varadaro. This is a top notch resort where everyone loved the food and the grounds and beach are beautiful. The staff are plentiful, helpful and cheerful. The rooms are good but we weren't there for the rooms. The nightly entertainment and ballet show in the pool was superb. The entertainment crew was really nice- not pushy but made everything available. Many opportunities to win a bottle of rum or a t-shi [... read more]rt: air gun shooting, darts, shuffleboard, mini-Putt, bingo, raffles, volleyball, water polo. We also enjoyed swimming in the ocean and nightly sunsets across the ocean. And of course-our favourite: an awesome pool with swim-up bar.

Paradisus Princesa Del Mar: Loved this resort

We have been to Cuba several times and I have to say this was the best Cuba vacation yet. The hotel, the food, and of course the beach were all great. I would not hesitate to recommend this property to friends.

Iberostar Origin Laguna Azul: Beautiful Resort

This was my first visit to Cuba and I really liked this resort. The grounds and beach were really beautiful. The food was much better than what I had been led to expect for Cuba. The Japanese a la carte was absolutely delicious and Henry put on a great show. The Italian a la carte was also very good. Anne in the buffet is truly an asset to this resort. She is very friendly and accommodating and has the best personality, always smiling and in a great mood. For the first couple of days, my  [... read more]room mate and I had to carry our valuables around as our room safe did not work. This was rectified on the second night when the repair person was dispatched to our room. However, we had four lights burned out in our room for the entire week of our stay and the bathroom door would not close so there was no privacy. We asked every day for these lights to be replaced and were told every day that they would be replaced "tomorrow". We even submitted a written request to the front desk and were assured this would be rectified. We even spoke to a maintenance man on our floor who assured us the lights would be replaced "tomorrow". When we completed our stay and checked out, neither the bathroom door nor any of the lights had been replaced. Our room number was 14217. Another lesser annoyance was having to walk the entire length of the resort on two separate nights to obtain drinking water before bedtime as our mini fridges were not restocked during the day and our towels were taken but not replaced. Ignoring these inconveniences, our stay was mostly pleasant. I am not sure I would stay at this resort again however as I believe it is very important to provide customer satisfaction.

Memories Jibacoa: Beautiful area amazing staff

We returned to this resort for the snorkelling and we were not disappointed. Still great to get to snorkel right off the beach and even on those windy days it was fun to just swim. However we noticed some changes from 3 years ago - just about everything was more wonderful! The food was really good- and not " just for Cuba"! The grounds were still beautiful and the staff really meant it when they asked what they could do for you. They really do need to replace at least half of the broken sunbeds on the beach as well. Lots if returning guests created a cosy friendly atmosphere.

Starfish Varadero: Let down for the first time...may not go back if Cuban resorts go down this path

Starfish Varadero was the first hotel in the many times I've been to Cuba that has completely let me down. I understand Cuba has limited resources but this time it wasn't the resources so much that let me down to the extent of considering not going back to Cuba, it was the way the staff and management in particular, treat their guests. First, the hotel management/new owners don't even have the decency of changing all the signage to indicate the new name of the Hotel from Aguas Azules to now ST [... read more]ARFISH, that`s cheap. Secondly, the price the hotel charges for upgrades and daily stays is outrageous as it is as high as $300 Canadian dollars per night which it doesn't reflect the cleanliness and service that price should include. I initially stayed in the hotel and had another reservation for a second room for someone else who travelled with me, however right from check in, the receptionist couldn't locate the second reservation even after I had already communicated with the Hotel manager a week prior to the trip and he had acknowledged having it. Then the state of the room which was supposed to be on the main floor was pathetic with broken night tables that didn`t even have drawers. Upon booking my trip and checking in I had asked for the room to be on the ground level due to mobility issues and I was told that there were no rooms on the main floor as they all started from the next level up, I told the check in person that I had heard the elevators broke constantly and she told me the elevators never brake down. Well it just so happened that the elevator was broken and we were stuck using what appeared to be a service elevator that was filthy and smelled like bugs had been living in it. The staff that often used it didn`t care that guests needed to go to their rooms so they`d just get into it without any care to let the guests take it. The food in the buffet was always covered by flies, and the staff who was there cutting things like meat for the guests never bothered to even swat one fly away. Sometimes, they`d just stand there chatting amongst themselves watching the guests swat them away or take a peak at what was going on with the food. Some of the servers never even bothered to look at the guests in the eye when they were bringing a drink to the wrong table. The pool in the bungalow area appeared to be a nice clear colour when I arrived but about 3 days later it started to change to a greenish colour and I noticed that the next day it appeared to have a strong bleach odour instead of having it cleaned. The a la carte meals were pathetic were the menu offered a few choices and then the server would tell us that the night we arrived, they only had one choice instead of what was on the menu. Also, the servers lie when told that something isn`t right as I had ordered red wine but it was served warm instead of cold to me; the server had the nerve to tell me that red wine is meant to be served room temperature (no AC in the restaurant) when I asked if they had chilled red wine. The bungalow appeared nice, however at night, cockroaches would be noticed crawling around from any wooden surface and no screens were on the doors to let the breeze in without letting the mosquitos in. The bungalow I was given after I upgraded from the hotel had a sliding door that one side made out of wood instead a glass, it had broken before. The broken glass had been left in the rail where the actual glass door had been and obviously never cleaned. Finally, management and reception aren`t insterested in making the guests get their money`s worth on their vacation as our fridge broke in the bungalow and it warmed whatever was in it instead of keeping it cold. I was told that in Cuba fridges only keep things cool but I pointed out the fact that it wasn`t even doing this and instead it was making the contents warm. It took 3 days to get the staff to change our fridge. Then one night we had a drunken man knock on our front and back door numerous times at 2am and when we tried to contact reception, we realized that the phone in the room didn`t work. When we brought this up to reception the next day, we were told that the phones don`t work all the way in the bungalows. That was a disgrace as anything can happen to someone in a bungalow with a drunken person trying to break in when confused. In our case I took a chance and just turned the light on inside the bedroom to show the drunk man that he was in the wrong bungalow so he`d leave. I later heard him banging on another person`s bungalow door and felt sorry for whoever that other person was. Needless to say, I will not ever be coming back to this resort and I am currently rethinking going back to Cuba in the future. It only takes 1 bad experience to make a loyal customer change their mind about where to make her hard earned money`s worth. By the way, I paid full price for this vacation package when I purchased it February so it was most definately not worth it compared to other times I`ve travelled to Cuba.

Valentin El Patriarca Varadero: Dream vacation

The hotel was clean, modern amd beautifully laid out. The beach was outstanding with white sand and clear water. I loved the cuban people. The staff were so friendly, helpful and polite. I thought the food was very good. The only thing I missed was lettuce but it's just something they don't have there. Unfortunately I got saminella but non of my friends did. Don't know what I ate that they didn't. These things happen but it would not stop me from going back to this resort, I just loved it [... read more].

Melia Marina Varadero: One of the best resorts in Varadero!

We really enjoy our vacations in Varadero! It was my first time and I was impressed with this resort! The room was amazing! Clean and beautiful! All the amenities modern and very clean! The staff, very friendly, happy and helpful! A++

Playa Caleta: Had a great time !

The hotel was close we had to go to the other one playa caleta wich i have been before and the staff is very nice i would go back but difficult people would not go back and i understand why they should tell people when they close for renovations or simply. Choose to close a section or even a pool ... but i love Cuba the beach and the staff at this hotel

Starfish Jibacoa: Restful and relaxing

Villas Jibacoa is a quiet and restful resort. If you are looking for night life pass this resort by. There are many return customers but I don't think I will be back. The food is ok but the staff is friendly and helpful. The snorkeling is great and the beach is amazing. The drinks varied greatly depending on who was bartending and that wasn't good. The villas were quaint and had dual voltage so charging phones etc was available and the a/c worked. The resort is close to Havana and one could  [... read more]get to Havana in a taxi (recommend Leonardo and Lehnar (guide). The main complaint was the beds; they were very hard! All in all a relaxing budget vacation.

Iberostar Origin Laguna Azul: Good time!

Stayed with a group of 12 and had a great time! Rooms were dated, beds hard as a rock. The food was excellent for a Cuban resort Staff was honestly the only thing that bothered me, they all seemed so crooked and unhappy with the exception of Kensi, he was amazing!!! So friendly and always bringing us new drinks at the pool side :)

Roc Barlovento: Bon rapport qualité prix

Bien situé près de la plage et de la ville pour faire le tour des kiosques d'artisans, s'assoir sur une terrasse avec une bonne bière et manger ailleurs qu'au buffet de l'hôtel (on a vite fiat le tour après quelques jours).

Paradisus Princesa Del Mar: OK Resort

We wouldn't rate this as a Five Star...it's more like a 3 or 4. The buffet was not very good, the Raquet Snack Bar was really good, the a la carte restaurants we very good. The service staff are fantastic very friendly and helpful.
