Royalton CHIC Antigua: Rex Resorts - Halcyon Cove

Very poorly managed. Staff are not friendly, no smiles, no how are you etc... I met only 2 of the staff that were friendly. Rooms are old but clean. Food was good. The a la carte restaurant is not worth it as you have to pay for 80% of what is on the menu. The beach was nice but small, lots of sand fleas and only one small pool. Came back with bites all over my legs. Heard that they are being bought out by Sandals. It needs an upgrade bad.

The Verandah Antigua: Verandah was perfect for family with young child

The resort was a beautiful setting, with two smaller beaches at each end, which had minimal waves, so perfect for young children wanting to get into the ocean. Food and drinks were wonderful. People of Antigua were incredible in every way.

Pineapple Beach Club: Needs work

Grounds were beautiful, some employee were very rude, not enough tables in the beach area to set your bags on. Food was better towards the end of the week. Birds flying around breakfast, and lunch were disgusting. They did try to keep them at bay. The bar next to the beach ran out of cups and the service was terriable, the employees were very rude, like they had to go out of there way to serve u. They can not make blender drinks there, you half to walk a mile to get one to the bar inside. from  [... read more]the beach. Breakfast was horrible, found eggs shell in my eggs, turned me off off the runny eggs anyways. Cheese was good and only one friendly lady servering, GOLDINE. The nurse station was actually excellent, Mr. Sunday Geroge was very nice and very helpfull.

Royalton CHIC Antigua: Great family vacation

Hotel a little runned down but very clean. Great staff (reception, server, bar, cleaning, etc). Great location on the end of the bay. Quiet area and good for babies, small kids and elderly. Food was fresh and good.

The Verandah Antigua: Outstanding resort and staff

This resort was beautiful and unique. The grounds were very well maintained and the staff we extremely friendly and a pleasure to be around. The food was great. It was great to have safe drinking water.

Jolly Beach Antigua: awsome

Beautiful island, good people, so much fun! Would go back in a heart beat! Lots to do and very safe, sailing,fishing,and every kind of water sport you could ask for. 365 beaches, white sand and sunshine!!!!

The Verandah Antigua: Great Resort

We really enjoyed our stay at the resort. Everything is spread out so it doesn't feel cramped, there are cement walkways so it's pretty easy walking, however, I wouldn't recommend for someone with mobility issues.

St James Club and Villas: Great Resort!

This resort was really nice. Great food and beverages, two beaches to choose from lots of beach chairs, no getting up early to get your chair!!!. Staff were very friendly and helpful! Very Clean and well kept.

St James Club and Villas: Good Value Resort

We really enjoyed the St James Club resort. I would rate the food an 8 out of 10, the nicest part being there was a wide variety of choice. We did have a couple of no so good meals, and we're offered substitutions in those cases. My favourite thing about the resort was the fact that we never had a problem finding a good spot by any of the pools or beaches (whether we wanted sun or shade) again, there was lots of choice. We stayed in the Royal Suites and the room was quite spacious and very clean [... read more]. However, I wasn't very fond of our bed (too soft and lumpy). I would highly recommend a suite on the top floor for a better view. The staff were extremely friendly and service oriented for the most part - but there were a few grumpy ones. The drink quality was good and the mixed drinks were OK to very good depending on the bartender. The water sports staff were outstanding and the condition of of water sports equipment was very good. Overall the value and variety were what made this resort a very good trip. I would rate 5 stars if the mattresses were upgraded and the stocked some better single malts.

Jolly Beach Antigua: Lovely Resort

Great value for a lovely little 3 star resort on a fabulous beach. The hotel is undergoing some much needed renovations, but the friendly staff, well prepared variety of food choices, and gorgeous setting still stand out. We thoroughly enjoyed our vacation at Jolly Beach and would definitely return.

Royalton CHIC Antigua: Great bang for your buck!

Right on the same beach as Sandles, ocean and beach was amazing. Simple and clean older hotel, quiet perfect for R&R. Food was simple, but tasty. Modest variety in food, Engish influence, With tea time between 4-5. I would suggest a snack bar, be added for in between meal times, and one complementary bottle of water in room. I would definitely go back.

Royalton CHIC Antigua: Amazing Beach

We loved our stay at the Rex. This was our second time and I must say they have improved. The new manager has a lot to do with it. We will return. One of the best beach you will ever find. If you like a small resort with no Belles and Whistles look no further

Royalton CHIC Antigua: Great Staff...but resort has seen better days

The hotel is set on beautiful beach. The staff are warm and friendly. However the whole place needs some maintenance. The rooms are clean but not well maintained...so the shower leaks, there's no light bulb in the socket...there's wires sticking out of the walls and the whole place needs a paint job. But despite the worn furnishings we enjoyed our stay because the staff was warm and welcoming. The food was great. And the place was clean.

The Verandah Antigua: Fantastic Resort

Resort is located on a beautiful bay. Rooms are nice, food is great, employees are wonderful. Drinks are not watered down and well made, they will serve you anything you want. This resort is not for people with mobility problems even though they have shuttles that will take you around. We have never thought about returning to a resort but will to this one. Night life is quiet which we found nice.

Pineapple Beach Club: Needs refurbishing

Beach was small but well tended. Lots of loungers available. Adult pool was very basic. Public toilets were very well kept. I had great difficulty initially in getting kitchen and restaurant staff to recognise what an allergy to onions actually entailed. Once that was established, and a visit from the hotel nurse, things were better. Buffet choices were unremarkable and lilited.

Royalton CHIC Antigua: Halcyon Cove by REX - Resort Report from the USA

We have returned from our warm winter week in Antigua. This year we selected the REX – Halcyon Cove Resort for this. It was our third time to this resort. Each time we wonder if there will be a next time for in 2008 it looked like it needed an extreme makeover as well in 2000. The problem is REX offers this get away as a cost cutting savings, thus it doesn’t have the resources to do what the Sandals can do to make it a beautiful looking resort. Including the General Manager – Riaan – that seemed to be everywhere and there never was a task he wasn’t willing to do. We were amazed how all the staff was really engaged in making our stay so pleasant. Part of our visit we give away two pewter pint tankards to the staff at the resort. We place the name of everyone that helps make our stay. Every time a person does something for us I would add their name again and again. On the last evening we place all the names in a hat and have two lucky people receive the pewter pints. It was amazing to see the enthusiasm to have another name added to the vast collection. The lucky winners this year was Tiphany (server) and Dolston (bartender). There was one bartender – Kai that had at least 17 names in the hat but unfortunately her name wasn’t drawn on Saturday evening. The meals were good but needed to have a little more diversity in the offerings. Some examples are more fruit in the morning - pineapple was only available one morning and prunes were only offered twice after my wife had asked. The cheese they offered was not a cheddar but more on the Velveeta style that I hadn’t had since I was a young lad. I could never understand why onions or scallions had to be placed on the salad at lunch and dinner when they had a bowl of them offered in the salad bar as well. It took several days to get our allergy problems resolved and after that the dinners went very well including the barbeque on Saturday evening for both my wife and myself. There was always something we could work around our issues for breakfast and lunch. Our first room had issues with the electricity and we were moved to another one across the resort. That one had the electric outlet available for the UK hair dryer and curling iron my wife had purchased for these resorts. The room was very spacious but had issues with the water being brown (iron) and not very hot. Also I had to have someone return several times to fix the safe, so I could get in it again. The 4 digit code seemed to get lost and cause it to lock until someone came to over ride it. As return REX customers – three times to the Halcyon Cove in Antigua and four times to the REX Grenadian and once to the REX St. Lucian we would think there might be some special thing to acknowledge that we had chose this resort chain for our winter vacations. At some of the REXs there was a variety of ways they thanked use for selecting them. As a place to go and not break the bank, I would recommend it. The valued for the dollars spent is there. Just remember it is like a Red Rood Inn/Holiday Inn that needs some work done not a Hilton or Ritz Carlton.

The Verandah Antigua: Nice family resort

This resort is great for families. The rooms are very clean and large. Not plush but comfortable. Thet have tennis and lots of water sports that are included in your alla inclusive rate. The beaches are small but nice as the reef keeps the waves from crashing in.

Well kept grounds, good food, clean rooms. Amazing beach and pools! Friendly staff and lots of activities. I would definitely return. We were there during the Christmas holidays and it was absolutely great!

The Verandah Antigua: Our favourite so far.

A fantastic vacation. The resort is beautiful with lush gardens. The property is very well maintained and they work very hard to keep it clean and pristine. The staff are some of the best trained, most friendly and honestly helpful we have experienced in our twelve trips to the Caribbean. The food was very good and it didn't really matter which restaurant you were in, the service was excellent. The rooms are terrific! We stayed in unit 153 which is an Oceanfront room in a two unit cottage. The v [... read more]iew from our room was everything we hoped for and was great to sit on the deck and look out over the top of the mangroves at the see and the bay we were on. The room was large with king bed, refrigerator, microwave, flat screen TV, couch and easy chair. The washroom was modern with double sinks and a great shower. There are two beach and multiple pools. we didn't use the pools as the beaches were the best. beautiful sand with lots of palm trees. Lots of water sports with good quality equipment. The only negative for the main beach was it was a fare climb up the stairs to get a drink. Not totally a bad thing considering the size of the meals we ate. We will be returning to this resort again and will be recommending it to family and friends.

Resort was clean and beautiful. The staff were very friendly and helpful . Food was excellent they work hard to ensure our experience was a good one. And it was a great experience.we also liked the fact that you could go off the resort unsupervised and do sightseeing or walk around St. John's .its a beautiful island that caters to all tourist and the people are very welcoming .
