Club Karey: could be better

Rooms were ok even after we asked for another. ala carte was bad. Worst pina coladas, from a slushie machine. Maid service was good. Should have been told about the shuttle service. Sunwing service was excellent.

Club Amigo Ancon: Needs improvement

The front desk staff aren't friendly. The food really needs improvement. There's lineups for the grill, yet they only put 6 or 7 pieces at a time and hope you will walk away instead of waiting. They get swamped with bus tours coming in for a day or two and we just helped ourselves to whatever was needed, i.e. napkins, cutlery, etc. We got their best room so no complaints there. The pools were closed, but the beach is lovely.

Hotel Villa Cuba: Hotel was ok...but bad service

First don't book a villa! We had them move us into a room right away. The hotel is decent and the beach was gorgeous. We had one great lady at the service desk that helped us change our room ... And that was the end of that. We were only provided with one bottle of water in our room over the 4 day stay, when we asked for another, we were told no and they couldn't get us one until 9am the next day. We were on an excursion at 8:30am. We had to fill up with the water system at the buffet the whole  [... read more]weekend. We could not use our a la carte as they would only allow us to book with our rep between 1:30-2pm daily. Since we were not available at that time we were only offered the buffet. The availability of when food services were open was limited. then I got sick... Either from the water or bad food to the point were I ended up in urgent care when I returned home. It did not matter that I was ill, they still made us check out at noon even though our flight was not until 9pm. We tried to find the doctor 3 times but there was never one on site. I love cuba and have been several times but I would never go back to this resort.

Roc Barlovento: Very Pleased and we'll be back

Hotel is nothing super.fancy but it has everything you need. Rooms are.basic but clean and functional. Shower water pressure was low but at least we could have a hot shower. Food was really good actually and taste. Al la cartes were excellent especially the Mexican. All the staff were super friendly and always served you with a smile. Adults only is a nice part of the resort as is that it's not too big and location is perfect.

Club Kawama: great time

Great girls trip away! The resort has had many upgrades in the past 2 years, very happy with them! Beach is fantastic! And the staff is very friendly.The Resort is close to markets and lots to see and do!

Roc Barlovento: Good Value and Positive Atmosphere

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Barlovento. It is one of the older all inclusive resorts in Veradero but it was well managed, quite clean and reasonably well maintained. It is situated on the western edge of town and allowed us to walk through the community. There are daily afternoon games and evening entertainment adjacent the pool and on stage. Occidental Arenas Blancas: Perfect vacation

It was great staff is nice, rooms are cleaned everyday and you have access to the other other Sol y Mar , which makes it even better. Nothing to complain about. Beach is amazing. This lobby is a but boring but sincr you have access to theother other right next to it it doesn't matter because the other lobby is huge and beautiful and there's lots of entertainment at night

Occidental Arenas Blancas: Great resort!

Really enjoyed the resort, great location, very good service, great food, clean rooms. Was pleasantly surprised with what I had heard from Cuba. Would go again anytime with friends and family. Thank you for a great week!

Club Kawama: Excellent value in a resort!

This resort exceeded my expectations. Food really was amazing, in fact, better than any 4 star resort I have been to in other countries. Except for loosing a few items because of my beach walks and urban exploring, I had the trip of a lifetime!

Club Kawama: Don't listen to the bad reviews! Great trip

Seriously, don't listen to the bad reviews, just keep in mind that this is a 3 star resort. I traveled with my boyfriend from feb.19-26th, 2016. Yes, the main buffet is closed but no, the walk is really not that far and we were put in the exact opposite corner of the resort. I think the longest it could possibly take a reasonably fit person is maybe 10 minutes. If you have health or mobility issues, request something closer. We had a standard room that was small but kept really clean during our  [... read more]entire stay. The pools are beautiful and the beach is absolutely amazing. The bars all make amazing drinks, lobby bar especially! (please bring your own reusable cup if you can! so much waste with all the plastic cups and straws). The '24hr' snacks not so great... they're available at the pool bar and are strictly ham and cheese sandwiches that have been pre-made. The main buffet is pretty small so they don't always have the best options, but the food is good. I'm a vegetarian and survived the whole week so you probably can too. If you don't want to deal with long lines at the buffet go about half an hour after they open and you won't have to worry. If you go right when they open don't be surprised if you have to wait and don't be annoying and complain about it. The staff were all great and always friendly. Please tip if you can, it really does make a difference to them and the whole time we were there it didn't seem like anyone was even leaving a peso for them. Also, don't worry about the dogs or cats. There's a small handful that are around and they all stay out of the way but are also very approachable and fairly clean. Overall, we really enjoyed our trip! Just keep in mind if you don't want to deal with these small issues pay extra and go somewhere else. Happy traveling!

Occidental Arenas Blancas: Beautiful family vacation

The hotel is in a bit of need of repair but was still beautiful. We spent a fantastic week enjoying this beautiful resort. The beach was the best we have ever been to, the food was good, the staff were beyond friendly and helpful, the sunwing folks were very nice and were always available and the cleaning ladies were great always making sure we had water for the baby. Hotel Villa Cuba: Great resort for a 3+, I'd say it was easily a 4,

My best friend and I absolutely loved this resort and everything about it. It had a lot of sitting room, great beach access and additional seating, great buffet and resturants. The location was perfect for us as well, it was a 5 peso cab ride to the night district of Varadero. The resort needs some paint, and our last few days by the games area smelled of sewage but all in all we loved it. We honestly couldn't figure out what people were complaining about with this resort.

Roc Barlovento: The price was right.

A few of the rooms have been renovated but not all of them. The important thing is that they are clean. Our maid did a wonderful job of keeping them neat and clean everyday. I did like the size of the resort, with everything being quite close. They do need a lot more loungers. There are not that many and half are in terrible shape. The food is typical Cuban food. The exact same things at the buffet for two weeks straight. Almost all of it was not good.There was a line up for the spaghetti everyd [... read more]ay and it was lousy. The ice cream and breads are wonderful but the desserts look great and taste like cardboard.

Club Kawama: Laid back resort with stunning beach

We took 3 grown children for our third trip to this resort & a chance to see Cuba before the American invasion. Since our first visit 5 years ago, there has been noticeable improvements to the beach, 2 pools, grounds, lobby furniture, the hot water in the rooms, evening entertainment & the quality of the al a carte menu. This is basic acc [... read more]ommodation: clean rooms, no undesirable bugs, edible food by our simple standards but don't expect clean towels everyday or room service. One of our 3 rooms was without air conditioning but it was cooler when we were there so this was not an issue except keeping the mosquitoes at bay during the night. We spoke to others on site who had no water or no power for several days. One daughter had to access medical care and was well served by the resort nurse & a doctor and pharmacist who paid a house call to the resort. Our most frustrating issue with this resort has always been the front desk. We find a number of the employees disrespectful, unfriendly & basically not very interested in helping you solve problems or provide information (such as how to obtain beach towels). Piece of advice: steer clear of the desk clerk we nicknamed the "Spanish Diva" - you'll know her when you see her. If you're used to 5 star hotels, don't even think about Club Kawama but if you're okay with minimal services, a large resort with plenty of beach, and a great location for excursions (Kawama is the last pick up & the first drop off for tour buses), then you'll find this resort comfortable and the majority of the staff friendly.

Occidental Arenas Blancas: Excellent Resorts for Families

People are friendly, and the service is good. Our building is not that noisy compared with others. Many senior people stayed there. Although the building is a bit outdated, the rooms are clean. If you miss anything in the room, tell the reception and they will bring them up pretty quickly.

Club Amigo Ancon: A good resort !

They should replace the beach chairs. The bartenders should be more attentive and the snack bar should be open 24/7. It also didn't offer much of a variety. Many times they ran out of dishes and glasses at the buffet and the coffee machines were rarely working.

Club Kawama: Got what I paid for!

3* overall- pool is nice... Good entertainment! staff was friendly... Booked superior room and was satisfied. Grounds need to be cleaner. Most Chairs at beach were broken or uncomfortable. Restaurant a la carte was quite disappointment but don't go to Cuba for food but the beach ! Et voila! Good place for the value!

Hotel Villa Cuba: Authentic Cuban Atmosphere

The hotel was a mix of lovely and terrible rooms but the hotel and grounds were a clean and beautiful atmosphere and well maintained. They had entertainment every night and both the buffet and restaurants had great food choices. The pools were cold but beautiful and the beach was gorgeous. We technically booked a 5day 4nights trip but with two full days of travel it was basically only 3 days which I was extremely disappointed with

Club Kawama: A Slice of Old Cuba

We really enjoyed this resort-though it is 80 years old, & the oldest in Varadero. It probably doesn't have all the modern amenities like the new resorts in the area- but it has So much history and character. We had a room Right on the beautiful beach. We could walk for a long way along the beach, or through the resort itself- which may be 1/4 km wide, tho narrow, as there is the ocean on one side and the quiet street & canal on the other side. We liked the $5, all-day hop on-hop off double decker bus that took us all through Varadero. We could easily walk from the hotel to the town and markets. There were lots of options for day trips, which were well organized & efficient (we chose a bus trip to Havana, and to a Sugar cane plantation) There wasn't much to complain about- a few oddities like not many toilet seats.
