Perfect Vacation

My wife and I had a great time at the resort. The property was very well taken care of. The gardens were well groomed and the workers friendly. The pool area was clean and the waitresses looked after our needs....drinks. There were a lot of seats but if looking for an umbrella you needed to be down by 9am to reserve your shade. The rooms were cleaned and always had clean towels and the bar was full. The food at the restaurants was awesome. The food at the buffet was just as good as the a la cart [... read more]e.

Villas 66 excellent location clean and comfortable

Villa we stayed at was clean, always stock with plenty of water and pop. Towels were clean when required. The staff are very friendly and go out of their way to please you... Very safe relaxed comfortable resort. Entertainment is terrific. Food very good, much variety. Great resort to stay at, Very relaxing.

Very Nice Resort

We arrived at this hotel late on Friday, Nov. 14th. The reception desk was not prepared to receive us as they only had 2 staff members working that evening and our group numbered 35+. It took about an hour to process everyone. In the past, we have received our keys and info on the hotel either on the bus coming to the resort or at a large table, and then are expected to Our room was fine-we had requested building #60 or #61. We were in #61 and it was a great location-close to the pool, beach, b [... read more]uffet, shuttle bus. There are some new Ambar buildings and they are supposed to be spectacular. We didn't get into those, probably because we had requested #60 or 61. People we met said that their rooms in the new buildings were out-of-this-world. Those buildings would be further from the beach, but a shuttle bus runs every 5 minutes. Since we were at the Ambar, we could eat out at the a la carte restaurants every night. We had prebooked these restaurants via email and were pleasantly surprised when all of our requests were met. Service at all the restaurants was excellent-almost too quick at times because we didn't have that much time between courses. The food was excellent at all restaurants!!! The resort was very busy, even though we thought that we were there very early in the season. One member of our party always got up at 6am to place towels on beach loungers and watch the sun come up. I did this once and it was wonderful. Many people were up very early to claim their favourite spot on the beach. A minor inconvenience. We really enjoyed the all adult atmosphere at this resort. I would come back if given the opportunity.

So disappointed

Wow, where do I begin!!! My wife and I just came back Nov 6-13/14, staying at the Bahai Principe Ambar, which just opened 3 days prior to our arrival. We have gone to Punta Cana for vacations probably for the last 10-15 yrs and have always stayed at the Riu Palace right next door to this resort, however, we thought we would try this resort as it came highly recommended !! What a mistake - I kept wishing we had gone to Riu the whole time we were there!! Our bad experience started right from the s [... read more]tart when staff tried to take us to our room and COULDN'T FIND OUR ROOM!!!! He finally found it after probably 1/2 hr looking. We were in room # 82401, on the 4th floor. Our first reaction was that the room was very nice, however, after getting settled into our room we realized that we were going to have a lot of issues. First of all, only half the lights were working in our room, the toilet was broken not flushing, phone did not work, bathrobes and room safe were both stuck to wet paint in the closet, cement trowel and garbage left everywhere in the room, no shower stall, just a bathtub with a shower attachment laying in the tub - had not been attached as yet to the wall and nothing to stop the water from going everywhere when we showered. We were on the 4th floor and there was no elevator in the building at all!! So beware - you better be healthy if you stay here cause you will be walking a lot of stairs!!!! We went to reception to advise of all our room issues and were told by Melissa that she would take care of it.........NOT!!!!!!! We went everyday to try to resolve our issues, but no one did anything. We were wanting to use the safe in the room but instructions on how to use it were incorrect, so Melissa said if we went to our room she would send someone up to show us how to use it. We waited 45 minutes and no one ever showed up to help us!!!!! We arrived on Thursday afternoon and after going everyday to try to get the safe fixed, finally by Monday after talking to our Transat representative, Hugo, they sent up, I guess he was a manager, Hector, who helped us with the safe. We discussed with Hector all the other issues we were having, He said he would take care of it. Once again we were lied to and no one did anything!!!! Customer service at this resort is non-existent.......bottom line no one cares if you have issues or not. We had to shower for the whole week with a hand held shower head with water going everywhere as it was not attached to the wall. We had to flush the toilet with water in the ice bucket as it broke and would not flush.......so much for luxury hotel.......... Someone finally showed up to look at toilet and sort of fixed it........it would run constantly but at least did finally flush. We had no phone for 5 days which is not only a safety issue but so much for 24hr room service!!!! We never got the lights fixed.........had to take a floor lamp into the bathroom so we could see!!!! Pretty sad!!! We also spoke to a manager at reception by the name of Aldo - who of course did nothing as well!!!!! We had no one clean our room and bring us clean towels to shower for 2 days!!!! When the maid finally found where we were, she made up the bed but left the pillows with nothing on them!!!! Had to find someone and try to tell them that we needed pillow cases for our pillows!!! The next time she came she put pillow protectors on pillows but no pillow cases!!! At this point we gave up and just left them the way they were!!!!! This resort is huge!!! It was a 5 minute ride on a shuttle just to get to the beach!!! Had to pay someone everyday just to find a chair to sit on the beach!!!! The buffets were so busy and congested and most items in buffet were empty - not enough staff to keep items filled up. We will never go back to this resort!!! We will be going back the Riu Hotel chain where staff really does care about their clients and will actually follow-up and will try to make your vacation the best possible.

Not what I had booked !!

We booked this resort at the recommendations of a few different friends. To start, the Air Transat representative on the bus from the airport to the resort was impossible to understand. When we arrived, check in was disorganized and frustrating to say the least. We waited in line and when I reached the desk, I was handed a piece of paper to write my name, passport and email address, but I had to leave the line to do so, and come back. When I returned (3 mins later) the person serving me was gone [... read more]...back in line we go. After waiting in line again, in the hot, un-air conditioned lobby we were told our room was not ready and to come back in 30 mins. Returned 40 mins later and it still wasn't ready. When we finally got our room and map of the resort I was very, very confused. I had booked the Luxury Ambar because we were told it was "right on the beach". I had reviewed the resort map on line prior to arriving. Imagine my surprise when I am handed a map with an entire section that wasn't shown on line. Apparently we were put in the "Ambar 2"!!! WHAT? Who knew there was a second one. It was NO WHERE near the beach and required a long walk of a shuttle. This is not what we had booked, AT ALL This section of the resort opened the Monday before we arrived. There were many, many kinks they still hadn't worked out. Phone lines didn't work, called room service and the phone just rings and rings, cleaning staff was overwhelmed (some days our room wasn't cleaned until 5 pm). It was difficult to secure al a carte resturant reservations and we were not able to for each night of our stay as everything was booked. We were placed on the third floor at the back of the building. Our balcony view was that of a service road and a pile of construction debris. When we headed to the beach the second morning at 9:10 am we were amazed to discover that there were NO chairs available. AT ALL!!! It appeared that the folks staying at the Ambar 1 (nice and close to the beach) were able to put towels on the chairs before heading for breakfast. The following day we get up early, have a quick breakfast and head to the beach again, this time arriving at 8:00 am. We secured the last TWO chairs!!! The food was good and the pool in the AMBAR 2 was nice. Never had a problem getting a chair at the pool (either because this area wasn't full or everyone was at the beach !) It's hard to rate each item because they are both good and bad. 1. Beach (poor, couldn't get seats) Pool (good, clean and lots of room) 2. Service - poor - (check-in was awful, any problems you brought forward were ignored) BUT Good - pool staff and wait staff were very attentive 4. Rooms - Poor (not what we booked, far from beach, horrible view of garbage) BUT also Good - (brand new and clean) PUNTA CANA airport was awful; Too many flights leaving at the same time through Air Transat. Line ups were very long

Amazing resort!

Everything about this resort was so great! The food was amazing and there was an abundace of choice. You are able to eat at all AL a carte restaurants between all of the bahia hotels so there are many choices. There beach bar service so servers come and bring you drinks while you enjoy the beach so you never need to get up. Impeccable service and cleanliness at the resort. Both my friend and I have not one negative thing to say about the resort.

Another Great Stay at Bahia Principe Ambar

This is our favourite resort in Punta Cana, and we have stayed her multiple time. The Villas are located close to the beach and although the Bahia Resort is very large the Ambar has it''s own lobby, pool and restaurants making it easier to walk around without having to go to the main lobby. The rooms are getting a little outdated but they were very clean and towels were changed twice in the morning and at night. The hotel grounds are well minicured, very clean, and there is always someone takin [... read more]g care of the grounds. The beach area is also very clean and they have someone coming around and brushing the sand off our chairs. Nice touch... The staff are very friendly and try to accomodate you at all times. Although the beach bar is OK the lobby bar had better quality drinks. The food in the restaurants is OK, and the buffet as well, I found that there was always something that you could eat. keep in mind that for the price that we pay for hotel and the all inclusive ameneties, it is a great deal. We will go back again in the Spring.

Lovely Resort and very pleasant workers!!

Grounds were very well kept as well as public areas. Dining Rooms were very clean as well. Food was better than I was expecting. However, our hotel room shower would not drain properly. But all in all I would return to the Ambar!!!

Great Adults Only Resort

We enjoyed a relaxing vacation at Luxury Bahia Principe Ambar. The grounds are beautifully kept. The rooms are spacious, bed comfy, really enjoyed the Jacuzzi. Everything is within easy walking distance. ie from lobby to room to pool to beach. Great bar service by the pool and on the beach. Room service was prompt but limited. I love everything about this resort..from the amazing manicured grounds, to the breath taking beachfront..Staff there is absolutely amazing VIP service no matter where you are on resort!! 5 stars all the way!!

Best Vaca Ever!!!

What a wonderful time. food, accomodations, staff, everything was exceptional.. We have been to numerous places down south, and this was certainly one of the best. The staff actually enjoy what they do. You never felt like they were being nice for the tips. They were just genuinely nice. One of friends travelling with us unfortunately broke her ankle and the staff and medical staff were incredible..Couldnt have had better service. definitely going back

Incredible resort, a very relaxing vacation

The resort was very close to the ocean, the grounds were maintained very well at all times. The staff were very helpful in providing advise on activities and excursions that can be done. The food was outstanding, there was a large selection of items at every buffet, and each meal had a different assortment of food. I would definitely recommend this resort to anyone looking for a tropical vacation.

Loved the Ambar!

Enjoyed my stay at the Ambar! The staff was accommodating,food over the top,Cleanliness impeccable. We were so pampered! We will defintely return to this place. I highly recommend it!What was there not to like. We were so relaxed one of my best vacations..

Truly surpassed all expectations

I must say that the resort was splendid. The décor in the lobby and surrounding areas was glitzy and tasteful. Everything was well organized and very clean. The cleaning and grounds maintenance staff always tried working behind the scenes away from the guests. The staff was courteous and very helpful. Never felt any pressure to tip from any member of the staff (we did anyways because they deserved it). The rooms were clean with lots of space. The décor was very nice especially the washrooms. W [... read more]alking around the resort was not difficult and almost impossible to get lost. The beach was very nice. We enjoyed our early morning beach walks from one resort to another. The water was warm and clear. For some reason, the sand on the beach nerve got too hot to walk on barefoot. The best part of this trip was the food. What an incredible selection.From the many buffets to the various themed luxury restaurants, everything we tried was rated 5 stars. We are already talking about going back for a winter vacation getaway.

Fantastic Resort!

Being repeat customers to the Bahia Principe Resort, my wife and I along with another couple were upgraded to VIP class during our stay at the Adults only Ambar grounds. We were also given rooms on the second floor facing the pool by the beach! Our rooms, the grounds, public areas & washrooms, etc., were always kept clean and immaculate. Service at the pool, beach, restaurants was always with a smile and prompt. Dinner at the Ambar main restaurant was so good every night(different themes) that w [... read more]e had no reason to book at the al la carte restaurants. Alcohol drinks were well poured and never watered down. The weather was amazing (hot & sunny) during the week of Aug7-15 with some rain around 2am. The miles of beach and warm ocean made it difficult to stay by the pool and its amenities. The only frowns were from guests who were on their last day on the resort….me included. A big thanks to the staff at Ambar (Albania, Bianca, etc)…see you next year:)

Excellent Resort

This was our first ever all-inclusive vacation and it didn't let us down. We had an amazing time. The food was very good, the room was clean and everyone was friendly. The only thing I wasn't too impressed was that people will come early to the beach to reserve seats and leave. This was a bit annoying as the seats remained unoccupied until late in the afternoon. I think the resort should do something about this so people who are actually at the beach can actually get seats.

Absolutely beautiful

This adults-only resort was a dream vacation; the rooms were spotless; the pool was just what we needed; it was quiet; close to daytrips if we wanted to take one; good shopping; excellent food & presentation.

Loved it

Ambar was excellent. Nice hotel, nice people , stellar beach, good pools. Was great to have ability to go to all properties. Food was ok...some a la carte restaurants better than others. Our first time in DR; we will definitely go back.

Bahia Principe Ambar, Punta Cana

Somewhat disappointed with this resort. While we thought it would be smaller, it is actually attached to two other resorts and so it is enormous, requiring the use of a small train service to get around. The two additional excursions we took were the worst we have ever taken (deep sea fishing; visit to cave/local house/cigar making). The Air Transat rep at the resort was late for the meeting and rushed through the excursions. He was never around after that. The resort itself was very nice, clean [... read more] and service was good. There is basically not much to do in this area....just the beach, pools etc. so can't say we saw much of anything of the island. Air conditioning is also somewhat lacking....e.g. in the hotel lobby so it was difficult to sit there in the evening to have a drink or listen to music. Most of the night life was at the other (attached) resort. Seemed like too much of an effort to go there via the trams.

Exellent resort, activities need fine tuning

The resort was beautiful, beach 7 pools were wonderful, enough beach lounges, food spectacular, a la cart & buffets, drinks available amazing, staff warm, welcoming & helpful. Rooms were excellent. The activities need some improvement for me to give it 5 stars. The sailing was good, but sails & boats need to be kept in better repair.. Bicycles also not well maintained. One tennis court is not enough for the whole resort, hard court would be better than cement. Archery we would have done if it ha [... read more]d been available for more than 1 hour a day. We did not use the water park(not interested), or the mini golf, too hot out on the open, no shade. Pool side dance lessons never seemed to happen, even with asking, so we gave up. Pool aerobics was very good. Evening entertainment was great!!! We are active people, and there is only so much lying at the beach & pool, before we get restless.
