The premises are well maintained, the food is good (not excellent), good services, nice beach, very friendly staff! Could have more activities and improve the food, but overall a very good place to relax and forget about the every day hassle!

Bahia Principe Escape Bouganville: Way better than expected!

I'll start with the very minor negatives. The beds were hard, that being said, they were very accommodating in giving us a pillow top for the mattress. The food is more then adequate and plentiful but for those that don't travel, they may be expecting better. Any person that does travel will know not to expect food beyond imagination. All the staff were unbelievably polite and more then willing to do anything for you. The "butler" Francisco and Nester the pool side runner were amazing. Our room was beautiful and spacious. The lobby was relaxing and tranquil. The entire resort was by far the best maintained then anywhere I've been, specifically the landscaping. In short my husband and I would not hesitate to return as often as we could, in fact, we are already planning our return.

This resort is BY FAR the CLEANEST, FRIENDLYEST, SECUREST, and most BEAUTIFUL we have been to. The rooms are extremely clean and actually smell great. There is no need to bring any candles, or room fresheners or bounce for your drawers. The rooms are nice and airy. They painted in light colours that make them seem even bigger. We canno [... read more]t say enough about the cleaning staff. ALL washrooms on the premises were very, very clean. There seemed to be a cleaning lady in every washroom every time we used one. The pool was scrubbed every morning (we had a room facing the pool – Bonus). Outside walkways and around the pool were also washed, more like scrubbed, on a daily basis. The staff is great here. There is a bit of a language barrier, but you can’t expect the staff to speak every language. We are visiting their country and tourists should expect language barriers outside of their country. If staff did not understand, they would get somebody who did. Nestor, a server from the bar, would make sure that we had our favorite drinks in hand all day. He could find us anywhere and aimed to please! :0) The entertainment staff are great, Luis and Manuel are awesome and provided enough activities throughout the day. We would have preferred a bit more upbeat music in the afternoons. The grounds are beautiful and very well groomed. The security here is beyond belief. We felt very secure here. There are security guards at every section of the resort and they are very visible. We have never experienced this type of security before and it was an added bonus. The food was very good. I gained 6 pounds, and tried something new every day. We travelled with two other couples and none of us got sick, nor did we hear about anybody else on the resort getting sick. We ate until we were full at each and every meal with no complaints. Chef Victor would even take the time to come out of the kitchen to help our friend who suffers from celiac with her food choice. Knowing before we arrived that the water at the beach was murky did not bother us. This is mainly caused by a manmade island that was built by the first owner of the resort next door which interrupts the natural flow of the water. Coming from Atlantic Canada, this is what we are accustomed to. The beach itself is beautiful with lots of shade from the palm trees. This resort is small and if you are at the pool or on the beach, you are always close to a bar, a washroom, the snack bar and your room. It is the perfect place for R & R. This review cannot be complete without mentioning the hotel manager, Manuella! You will see her around the pool, in the lobby, on the grounds with her beautiful smile. She will acknowledge you every time and by the end of your stay, you feel like you have become part of her lovely family. My friend said it best: ¨This resort hit the jackpot when they acquired Manuella¨ and I agree. Thank you for a great vacation and we will definitely back.

Stayed March 20-27 The service at this resort was excellent... the manager Manuela was out greeting the guests as well everyday. Rooms are exactly as pictured, clean and everything worked great. Animation Team did a great job to make sure you are having fun .... JoseG, Manuel and Francisco will keep you smiling. We spent most of our time at the pool and the staff at the pool bar were great... Eduardo,Jasmine and Nestor will make sure you cup is always full.... Ramon, Catarin, and Yahaira will look after you like no other. We ate at 3 a la cart's and they were great... the Grill, Japanese, and Italian....the rest of the time was at the buffets. The beach is great, the water is murky, however lots of people swimming in it. We really enjoyed the resort and our time there, we would recommend this resort to anyone.

Very poor staff, bad food and bad drinks. Had lots of problem with our room. Food was so bad I actually lost weight. Same meals everyday. Near impossible to get a drink with lazy staff they refuse to help even without line ups. Nobody could speak a word of English. Very rude staff. Wouldn't go back.

Bahia Principe Escape Bouganville: A beautiful resort !

We just returned from our 7 day stay at Bouganville. The hotel and the rooms are shining and spotless, the staff is exceptionally friendly and a pleasure to talk to, we had absolutely no problems. We will go back and we would definitely recommend this resort to others. The beach has many cabanas and chairs, and lots of palm trees. Although you cannot walk for a long distance along the beach, it is very pretty, and the pool area is very nice as well. There are activities to participate in all day [... read more] long and the theatre at night at La Romana was great, very talented performers. If you are looking for exceptional service and cleanliness then Bouganville is what we would recommend.

This resort is amazing in every way. Hotel is very clean, grounds amazing and well kept, the pool is beautiful, the food is delicious, the entire staff was beyond friendly, room very cozy and well cleaned everyday. Service is out of this world and would go back for sure.

Room and Grounds were very clean. Beautiful Beach. Food was great. A big variety. Something for everyone. Service was slow. Room was not ready at 3.00. no free WiFi, no free safe in Room. The carges for both was way too high.

Beautiful property. Rooms are nice and clean. Housekeeping did an incredible job. Enjoyed the local coffee and beer. The lobby bar had the best service. Lots of food choices. Lower level drinks had room for improvement. All around good value. We would consider returning in the future.

Booked last minute , stayed in room 409, had not problem with a/c, water preasure was good. Beach is good, walk a little down the beach for amazing powdery sand and scenery. Buffet was awsome, lots to choose from. Plenty of chairs at pool and beach. Will be returning for sure

We stayed at Grand Bahia Principe La Romana March 3rd to the 10th. We had such great weather the whole time we were there. The bus to the resort was fine. The service when we got to the resort was great. We got checked in right away and were greated with drinks. Our room was very nice and clean. The maids did a great job. The food at the resort was great as well. No bad things to say about our time!

we stayed in room 50102, corner suite, ocean view. very nice room. Any problems we had in our room was attended to right away. We did not have illness or did we hear of anyone else being ill. The food is not a 5 star rating, but we did not starve. The staff kept us well entertained and were very friendly. We had a very relaxing vacation

To the right is the a la carte reservation desk against the far right wall the reservation desk. Reserve a new superior deluxe room with all renovations complete, close to the beach and run of the house view, ours was #1934. With a frosted glass door to the toilet another to the shower and the sink/vanity in between.  [... read more]The room is cleverly modern in it its design. Back in the lobby on the left is the concierge center and straight ahead is the service desk. This resort is for sun and beach fun. Pass through the lobby and step into the hub of this resort. The Plaza Bar features nightly entertainment, try the rich sweet red label whiskey, icy tequila marguerites, hot espresso and delicious ice caps. Listen to a saxophone player, solo singer, classical music, and favorites like smoke on the water and other standards drift through the night air. For $10 CAD nightly receive prompt table service, you don't have to wait in line! With an extra large seating area decorated with neon green tables & white chairs, on marble flooring, all very neat and clean. The theatre is off to one side, the lights blink when the shows about to begin. The modern open air disco off to the other side opening at 11pm. $$$$US shops surround the plaza bar, sunscreen is $25US. We went through 6 cans in a week. Its was sunny and hot with a few refreshing showers late day. Walk the path to the right and find the Buffet, that has different fare/nightly theme: Mexican, Italian w/ a layered drink, French w/champagne, Brazilian, Dominican. Try the Asian a la carte, it is very tasty & entertaining, avoid the Gourmet. Passed the buffet is a large pool a 24hr snack bar adjacent. Walk straight ahead and your toes will sink into the soft sand with green sea surf. Palm trees wave in the wind and new lounge chairs are neatly lined up for the next day. Security is everywhere all day and night. Safe rental is $22US, Wi-Fi is $60US weekly (turn it off when sleeping), upgrade to VIP $60US p/n for a private pool, bar, lounge, upscale room,and Wi-Fi or keep your room and pay $30US p/n. We paid $22US for a late 4pm checkout. The resort markets to the Italian and French, it is a hidden gem. The best ocean to swim in the Dominican, been to Punta Cana Dreams & Grand Paradise & Bahia Ambar ****as well as Samana Grand Paradise***. Walk up the beach and pass 2 sets of vendors right on the beach, best buys at those farthest away. Its a nice walk and allows you to see other resorts. This hotel resort has so many excursions to offer on site at half price than through the Airline tour operator. Enjoyed every moment and will return. Superior kind service, delicious food, great drinks and entertainment what more do you want. We will return for sure.

Bahia Principe Escape Bouganville: Beautiful resort and a nice stay but only 4 stars

My wife and I stayed at this resort from Feb. 22 to Mar. 1, 2015. We had a really late check in (12h30 am) since our plane was late coming in from Toronto. The check in went really smoothly and we had our room in short order. We did request a room change however since our room didn't have a real shower, just a hand-held in the Jacuzzi tub. We got transferred to another room on the 3rd floor (#51218) without any hassle at all. Rooms are spacious and clean. Maids are friendly...as are most of th [... read more]e staff. The grounds are just beautiful and kudos go out to the staff for such great work!! We spent a lot of time at the beach however did not go swimming because the water was not appealing (brownish) and there are jellyfish...both of which we knew ahead of time. There are plenty of palapas at the beach and we never had any problems getting loungers there...in the afternoon, we would migrate to the pool area..a bit harder to find a spot in the shade for me.. Premium drinks were available, just not all the time...for example, I drink Crown Royal and it was available only 3 separate days. Not a big selection of drinks available at the pool bars. The food at the buffet was good but a lot of the previous comments are accurate....because of these comments,we were careful to take food that had recently been taken out, nothing with creamy sauces, or stuff that looked lukewarm...neither my wife or I got sick per say, just a bout of upset stomach for about a day or so..could be the booze or the food (or both)..they give hand sanitizer to everyone entering the restaurants/buffets which is a good thing..as long as it's consistent... We ate at three à la carte restaurants, the French (Le Gourmet) was by far the best of the three (others were Il Capricio and Garden Grill Steakhouse). We even had some momahuana with our server at Le Gourmet..food was great there, give it a try! We had a good time here and relaxed, which is what we needed...yes the lounge closes at 11pm so if you want nightlife, this is not the place for you...you can go next door to the other side of the resort.

Bahia Principe Explore La Romana: Spend a little more and go somewhere else!

The grounds at this resort are immaculate. In my opinion the resort is under staffed which sometimes makes them a little cranky. The buffett and the pool/swim up bar seem to be under staffed the whole time we were there. The buffett food was the same every day. If I didn't know better I would have thought I was in Cuba. The food was of poor quality(worse than What I've had in Cuba). Several times the same dishes could be seen at breakfast, lunch and diner. The animation team did a great job day  [... read more]and night and if you didn't want to participate they didn't push you. The ocean is very murky and you couldn't see 6 inches into the water. Yes there are jelly fish in the water everywhere you go. One day I walked along the beach and counted more than 30 jellyfish swimming near the waters edge. Several of them washed on shore and you really had to watch were you walked. As for the beach, well we sat on the beach for one day and I counted close to 50 sandflee bites on one leg. During the week I noticed several people with there legs covered in bites. The beach is infested with flees. We spent the rest of the week by the pool. I will say this there are more than enough loungers and you don't have to get up at 7am to save them. Overall I would not recommend this resort because of the sand flees, the ocean and the quality of food. I have been going to the Caribbean for more than 15 years now and this was the worst resort I have been to. We travelled February 23 to March 01 2015. During this time there were several people getting sick and at least one taken to hospital . Don't know the cause but my educated guess would be the food. Prior to leaving for the D.R. I too an over the counter med called ProKPlus. We had no sickness but watched what we ate.

Viva Wyndham Dominicus Beach: Underrated and Underappreciated

We returned from the Viva Wyndham Dominicus Beach 4 days ago and I wish I was still there. This property is rated 3.5stars, but it is more of a 4 star. We were scared when we got to the lobby expecting a Grandiose area of congregation. The VWDB lobby is for checking wifi and coming and going. That's all. The resort opens up from there with great areas to hangout night and day. The beach is Amazing! White sand turquoise clear wAter and some large areas of coral in waist deep water teeming with fi [... read more]sh and amazing for snorkelling. 3/4 pools are beautiful with bars close at hand. There is a trapeze which is also included. And children 4-12 can use from 9-11. And adults 4-6. The standard room is just that "standard" and doesn't even have a fridge. But before you book look to see if there is a superior room available. Usually they are not much more. There also is bungalows that are stone buildings with thatched roofs. These are great and are closest to the beach. I reccomended these! The food at the main buffet is typical-really good buffet food. Nothing that blew me away but I was content every meal there. The a al carte restaurants were also very good. The Mexican restaurant was actually amazing. You can book into these every night so get into guest services and do it. The animation team were wonderful! It is a very multicultural hotel. And almost everyone speaks some-decent English. There are a lot of Italians at the resort so don't be offended if they don't speak English first. The animation team is made up of people from all over the world. Italy, Scotland, Brazil, Slovakia and Dominicans. Most can speak 4-5 languages well and they are all fun people and skilled dancers. At around 8:30 there is usually a band or music in the main courtyard and the animation staff is ever present to teach merengue or bachata. At 9:45 the show starts and was the best shows I've seen at a resort. Except the comedy show. Book a late dinner that day. Following the show there is a fun themed danceparty in the courtyard every night until 12:30 when the staff walks everyone interested to the disco. This is a very fun hotel with lots to do at any level of participation. The beach is large and although often packed. There are always loungers to be found. I have already recommended this hotel to friends and will return myself. We travelled with our 2 children 5&7.

Bahia Principe Escape Bouganville: Great Place for a Vacation

Stayed at the BP - Adult only side for 10 days in February. Rooms are very spacious and bright. There is a very good selection of food in the buffet. (Try the southern fried chicken - very yummy). We used room service a couple of times and could not get over how fast it was (joked with the server - 20 minutes or it was free? :) Was very nice to be able to get a chicken sandwich, clubhouse or a hamburger delivered. The beach is beautiful, but yes, the water is murky looking. We swam in the ocean [... read more] almost everyday and did not experience any jelly fish. Staff - the staff are very professional and friendly - cannot do enough for their visitors. We traveled with 2 other couples - would definitely recommend this hotel. We will be visiting again next year.

Sunscape Dominicus La Romana: Great Value for the money!!!!

I cannot say one bad thing about this resort. Great value for the money! They upgraded us from our standard room booking to a deluxe room for no charge. There are always cleaners cleaning, workers maintaining, everything we came across worked. The food whether it was the buffet or restaurants were great, plentiful and the variety I'm sure met all needs ... from the picky to the adventurous. The beach is incredible ... one of the nicest we've seen, being beside a National Park enables you to walk forever (or till you get thirsty) without the busyness of a shopping mall at Xmas.
