Melia Costa Rey: My favourite resort in Cuba!
Beautiful beach, clean and well designed resort, great food, warm and friendly staff. The animation team is energetic and engaging. Lots of animals on the resort which we all loved, there is a feeling of community there. My second time going and I would return again. Highly recommend!

Memories Flamenco Beach Resort: Home away from home
We’ve been coming to this resort since it opened! We have now been 19 times! We can’t wait to go back. Yes it needs paint and of course they have had challenges with Covid so not all perfect but we still really enjoyed our 11 days! Food was great and the beach is fabulous! The people that work there are amazing! Shout out to Janet in the Cuban restaurant. Pedro at his special beach bar Emslie on the beach. Armando is the cigar bar. Yusniel at the pool grill Arie & Orlando at the[... read more] pool bar. Fantastic mojito’s by the pool Grounds and gardens are stunning! Shout out to all the gardeners! Rooms need updating We also met Alba director residents and I’m sure she’ll do a fabulous job in her new position Hope to see you all again in the near future Stay safe. Love you all â¤ï¸â¤ï¸â¤ï¸â¤ï¸

Melia Peninsula Varadero: Melia Peninsula review
Was very happy with the resort the people that work there are so kind and helpful. The resort property is clean and it’s beautiful to walk around. But when it comes to the food and drinks we weren’t to happy about the selection.
They keep running out of different foods and you ask any they didn’t have anymore. The drinks were the same, they had only their brand of liquor. The second week was getting better for food and drinks. But overall I would go back to the resort. The service was exc[... read more]ellent and rooms were nice and big. The ocean was beautiful and sand.was clean.
We have visited Cuba many times. 8 times to Cayo Coco...first time at Memories Caribe.
Where to start... Cuba is an amazing place to relax. The people are educated, friendly, and work hard to make your trip enjoyable. Cuba has had a difficult time during covid since tourism is such a large part of their economy.
Here we go:
Arrival: airpirt was well organized in Cuba...short lineups and handled very well. (Much better than Pearson was during our departure). Just have your paperwork ready. (Th[... read more]ey are in process of switching to phone apps...watch for that)
The bus: As always air conditioned and beer to buy during ride 3/$10.
The resort:
Check in was easy and quick. Luggage stored until our room was ready as it was a morning flight. John at the reception desk was amazing!!!
Lobby Bar: loved going for cappucino and espresso with a breakfast beer every morning. In the evening they do close at 11 but start shutting off air conditioning and preparing for closing by 10...there was no entertainment there other than another traveller who played the piano a few nights.
Outside the lobby bar: there are tables...they will bring you drinks from lobby bar and the mixed drinks are very good.
The bugs are bad at sundown, and if you are a non smoker...there can be lots of smokers sitting out there. They did have a saxophone player out there on Sunday nights.
Buffet:
Best meals are breakfast!Bacon every morning...fresh cooked eggs...lots to pick from. Catherine is amazing at buffet and always wants to help.
Other buffet meals are good...but pretty repetitive. We took a zip lock bag with salt and pepper and spices that we love. Also...i did not see ANY mustard ketchup etc while there. (I think this is in good part due to covid etc).
Sports Bar (Route 66). Eduardo is amazing. Makes a fabulous strawberry pina colada...beer is cold.
Our room:
had requested a main floor room...they did not disappoint. Great location 2204. Air conditioning quiet and worked well
Hot showers all week!
Most comfortable bed we have had in Cuba.
Entertainment:
This is where they fell down...there were a couple of shows and karaoke one night...just got people into it though and shut it down. 10 pm all finished.
They had a beach party and a pool party one night...but really.meant for the 20 somethings...and bugs bad.
A piano player in the bar each evening would have REALLY helped.
Ice cream parlour:
right beside pool. Lovely treat...with specialty coffees there also.
Covid tests:
Well organized to get tests done before return to Toronto. Results come back 9 pm the night before you fly out. The problem is that this created high stress on your last evening. I dont know how to fix that though...may be just part of the travelling with covid thing.
Pool bar:
Dave at pool bar makes great drinks and quick to notuce your empty glass.
Pools were pretty warm still so swimming was great.
A la carte:
They were ok. Staff tried to make a special event...but foid overall not memorable. My husband had steak tar tar appertizer in meditteranian and he said it was very good (but only 4 bites)
Odd things we noticed:
Almost NO seafood...not even much for fish.
Desserts were quite good
Wasrooms kept quite clean. Except for the one beside route 66 bar...ladies room never had toilet paper...hand siap ir paper towel. I would avoid this one. I checked on it a couple times to see if it was a one off...but numerous times it was not taken care of.
All in all a great relaxing get away before returning to reality.

Paradisus Rio De Oro: Great staff!
The amenities on the resort were great from the volleyball courts, snorkelling, and paddle boats. A beautifully maintained beach, and pool area is where we spent most of our time. The food was really good for Cuba, never found ourselves going hungry. The best part was the staff they really went out of their way for us whenever they could and it truly made it the best stay possible!
However, until all of the covid restrictions are lifted I will not be returning to Cuba, the PCR test you take on[... read more] the resort was very sketchy and they just give you a hand written note on a paper saying negative signed by a doctor. One of our friends tested “positive†and they wouldn’t retest her and wouldn’t let her partner stay in the hotel with her - they take you to a hotel in the city with no hot water where they try to sell you “medicine†so that you retest negative. They told her because they already swabbed her nose if they retested her it would come back negative because they removed all the bacteria - they stopped harassing her to buy medicine once the embassy was involved, the embassy retested her and she tested negative showing it was all just a money grab on the Cuban government’s part.
Obviously this wasn’t the hotels fault tho, just beware when travelling to Cuba.

Melia Cayo Coco: Happy to have been there!
From start to finish it was a great stay. We got the same room as last time which we had asked for. The staff were great, very professioal, friendly and Covid safe. The Canadian government should take lessons from Cuba. Our intentions are to return in April 2022 so long as our government hasn't brought on a lockdown preventing us from doing so. The only drawback is I have come home to a driveway full of snow.

Playa Costa Verde: Fabulous trip!
Excellent vacation!
We stayed at Playa Costa Verde from Tuesday December 7 - Tuesday December 14, 2021.
Checkin was fast and reception staff were very professional and helpful during checkin and throughout our stay. Rooms (although a little dated) were clean, air conditioning worked great, lots and a variety of TV channels, great water pressure (hot and cold) and wonderful housekeeping staff. Food at buffet was hot, tasty and plentiful. The pasta and pizza station at the buffet was amazing! Lo[... read more]ts of fresh fruit, omlettes and smoothies at breakfast and amazing breads, soups and salads at lunch. If you can't find something to eat at the buffet I would say it is a YOU problem. Desserts and ice cream to die for. Amazing cappuccinos and service at lobby bar. Snack bar food was good; service a little slower. All waiters, waitresses, bartenders, gardeners, security, etc. were friendly, attentive and professional. The beach is gorgeous and great for snorkeling. We did not take nor needed watershoes and just walked around coral on sandy bottom. COVID-19 test was non evasive and doctors, etc. very compassionate and professional. No shortages at resorts (food, water, staff, food, etc). No coffee makers or kettles in rooms so pack your own if that is important to you. Beach towels in room when we arrived (standard room) with mini bar filled daily with water and soda (no beer). Free wifi and could get it everywhere on resort. Excellent nightly entertainment. Japanese (entertaining and great dinner) and Cuban (beef was tender and tasty) a la cartes were very good with attentative staff. Resort was about half capacity during week a bit busier on weekends with locals and all had a great time. Pool was clean and entertainment engaging but not in your face. A family oriented resort but young couples around having fun and all visitors respectful of each other. Our Sunwing representatives were helpful with any of our questions. We tipped with small Canadian bills. Excursions and lobby store all using VISA card. Market took Canadian money as did off site restaurants and taxis. We did not change any Canadian money into national pesos as not needed. Covid protocols followed by guests and staff and we felt safe all week. Handsoap and sanitizer readily available throughout resort. We had a fabulous time at Playa Costa Verde and would go back in a heartbeat. We have been to Cuba over fifteen times (seven times to Holguin) and this resort is among the best of our favorites (Brisas Guardalavaca, Iberostar Holguin and Sol Luna y Mares) in Holguin. Get off the resort, see the real Cuba, meet the locals, go to one of the local fabulous restaurants, stay healthy, happy and safe!!!

Hotel Blau Las Morlas Varadero Beach: Very nice Hotel
This is an older hotel and on the smaller side but it suited us. With all older hotels in Cuba they lack modern conveniences and are in need of updates. The grounds are well kept but the rooms and lobby are tired and need updating. If you can look past that, the staff are terrific and very friendly. The newer hotels are far nicer and the price reflects that. We have been to many hotels in Varadero and this one is rated correctly at 3.5 stars.

Iberostar Selection Holguin: clean and nice area but not a 4.5 star ...maybe 3 in internationals standards !
because were a few people in resort everything regarding services were smooth ...but till resort you have to endure cuban incompetence during crossing the border ( don't blame them ...they don't know better, is the system)
food is edible - many canadians enjoy it but i think is inadmissible for a resort named IBEROSTAR to not have in a restaurant : vinegar, onion, bell peppers, spices , lemon, diversity of fruits ...list is long but i stop to what is obvious
a la carte restaurants have same k[... read more]ind of food or almost ...is only the name : a la carte ! poorly food but u can check the meniu by a QR code ! childish for what food they offer but again everyone is different and some of canadians enjoy
many locals have access to the resort ...this time i didn't see kingpins of cuban black market ...
departure was the same time and nerves consuming like arrival

NH Capri: Amazing location and staff.
I just got back from NHCapri hotel in Havana. I really enjoyed my stay, the staff was wonderful they made me feel welcomed. My room was a Standard room ,but still spacious, bed and pillows were comfortable cleaned every day and the view from my window it was very spectacular having in my view the ocean and the famous National hotel of Cuba beautifully lit at night . A copious breakfast was included and at the rooftop restaurant they had delicious lunch and dinner and an amazing 360 view of the [... read more]city. Also on the roof top they had the swimming pool beautiful views as well just the water was cold for me, but is December what should I want! Only inconvenience that it was not the hotels fault, when I booked the hotel on trip central it was advertised that at the hotel they offer the PCR test needed to come home. Well it wasn't, I had to go to the International clinic, not far from the hotel, but they made us wait more than 4 hours standing outside the building, luckily they were some trees to have some shade. I felt that a day was waisted from my vacation and because I had before hard attack it was not an ideal situation. I will still go back one day.

Memories Caribe Beach Resort: Bang for Your Buck!!
This was my 2nd visit to Memories Caribe and I will return again ! The hotel in general was kept clean and covid sanitary measures were taken.. ie sanitary gel available outside restaurants before entry, all staff wearing masks and distance measures drawn out on floors for guests to abide by when approaching front desk or buffet tables for example. No guests were able to as much as grab a plate from the buffet table, as everything was handed to you and food was served on your plate by the extr[... read more]emely hardworking and efficient staff... I agree with many of the other reviews...the staff is fabulous .. all of them.. from the gardeners to the technicians , the entertainment team , the front desk , housekeeping etc... Any minor issues were resolved quickly and efficiently.. These people need to be respected and rewarded !! Unfortunately I witnessed many guests doing quite the opposite... not following covid guidelines and restrictions .. and partying like its 1999.... Hello People! You know who you are.. its nice to have some freedom again , but lets do it with respect and safety in mind.
The food was good. Always found something to eat, even with the major food shortages happening in Cuba right now. Excellent Spanish coffees as usual.
I have to say if you are a wine drinker you will be disappointed with the wine at the Buffet.. there is a wine store and the Tiendo that do sell bottles, which you can bring to dinner.
My room was 2105.. with a nice kingsize comfortable mattress.. which can be a challenge in Cuba. Location was a bit noisy until 11pm.. as it was close to entertainment and dining areas.. but very convenient.. The resort is small and well laid out. There are quieter sections of rooms which are still only a short walk to lobby/services.
The pool was beautiful, clean and fairly empty most of the time..unless organized classes/games were held.
OK. Last but certainly not least.. The Beach is absolutely stunning!! Crystal clear calm water. no red flags.. swimming was beautiful.. beautiful sandbars .. can walk it for miles.
Cuba is known for their beaches... and this is one of their best!!
This is the only resort that I have gone to more than once, as I like to explore other options,, and I will return again. If youre looking to party and good nightlife, this is not for you.. If you want to just chill , connect with nature and enjoy some of the most friendliest and unassuming people Cuba has to offer, you will love it here!!!

Starfish Jibacoa: Hotel in a garden, by the beach
Lovely blond sand beach. Beautiful landscaping: Royal Havana and coco palms, bougainvilleas abloom, May flower and caleta trees set in a park-like, well maintained sweet grass setting. Very quiet, relaxing atmosphere. Villas are built in a quaint 60's tropical style, with big balcony in front where we sat, read and had cocktails.
There are two nice medium sized pools - for children and adults. Service is good, staff friendly, and efficient. (An exception is a surly, snarly cook - he actuall[... read more]y fills your plate for you at the end of a long waiting line, in a painfully slow motion: an awkward, stressful, frustrating experience.)
The restaurant is nice and bright, waitresses on the ball. Food ingredients are good. However, the preparation, alas, is at best uneven. A pity.
There is a small serviceable bar by the pool, and a larger lobby bar with barmen and women who are exemplary: quick, smiling, with a can-do attitude, and professional efficacy. A pleasure to encounter when you need a morning shot of caffeine, or a cocktail, anytime.
The reception and PR staff are wonderful: most attentive, informative and always helpful. Our chamber maid was great, too.

Grand Memories Varadero: Grand Memories
It was a nice hotel. The beach was awesome.
However, there are a lot of hungry fleas.
When I was there, there were a influx of Cubans staying there hoarding all the food, had plates full putting it in bags to take home. Long lineup for food meals and no quality, ran out of food. There were servers at the buffet but they gave the Cubans plate fulls.

Roc Barlovento: Very disappointed !!!
Recently 14 days all inclusive, room 134. Toilet leaking, faucet loose, bed linen not changed in 13 days, (only because requested). Food of poor quality - variety compared to previous years and recycled over and over again. Upstairs room leaking " water " to this room through the ceiling. Gone to Cuba for 11 years. ALL BLAMED for the U.S. " blockade " and the COVID.

Melia Internacional: Not worth the money
Beach was beautiful. This that should have come with the premium level. Didn’t happen. Pool was not cleaned properly. Garbage floating in it. Staff overall were nice. Not a lot of beverage choices and the food was horrible. 3 out of 4 of us got sick. Will not go back. Also Varadero things shut down and closed over night. Nothing really available. Don’t buy their money. Can’t convert back. Over all just a bad experience. First time there.
