We both loved this resort. The food was amazing and the staff were all very helpful. The beach was beautiful. Big waves but lots of fun. Would definitely return to this hotel and would recommend it to others.
When we arrived at the Colonial we were upgraded to the Palace. This review is about the Palace.
Grounds: Large ( Shuttle comes every 15 mins to take you around).
Rooms: Nice and big. AC isn't as cold as other resorts, the coldest it got was 19 degrees.
Food: Really good we stayed at the palace and the buffet was really good and the Coral for lunch was good also.
Pools: They have an "Adult only" pool its quite no swim up bar, and cabanas you pay for. They also have a kids pool and l[... read more]ap pool. I spent most of my time in the large pool with the swim up bar. Big enough you don't realize others are in it.
Beach: Not really sandy, hard rock under some sand.
Ocean: Was very wavy and rocky, with lots of fish and sea turtles.
Chairs: Lots of chairs near the pool and beach. Bonus hammocks too!
Nightly entertainment: We did 3 out of 7. If you have a chance see The Magic Show and Micheal Jackson. So well done!
Wifi: Don't waste your money, It works great for day one then it was very choppy after that.
Maya Mall: Sports bar has great munchies and large TV to watch sports and a bowling ally. Maya Mall also had shops and a skating rink ($5 USD for 30 mins).
Car Rental (Alamo): Miriam was GREAT! So helpful and full of information. Car rental was easy and great price, make sure you pay extra for them to gas up your car. Don't get scammed at the pumps.
Air Transit Rep: Wasn't super helpful, I asked where I can rent a car and she did the sign of the cross over me and said don't do it. Its not safe. I rented the car with zero help from her, was so easy and very easy to drive in in Mexico. Download an offline map on your phone and go. SO EASY!
Over all a great stay. If you like large resorts this is the place for you.
Enjoy!

Valentin Imperial Riviera Maya: Returned visitors
We have been at this resort about 5 years ago and had such a great time we went back. The house band is amazing and there is always something going on at night which we love, as well as more quite places you can spend your night like the piano lounge which we also love. The food was wonderful in the restaurants, the lunch buffet was different then the last time we went it was missing some of our favourite items that we went back for we also love how you do not have to make reservations at nigh[... read more]t!! Like who wants to be on a schedule on vacation :) The only things this resort lacks in is the view from your room, the rooms themselves are beautiful however i have yet to find a room that has a nice view even the beach rooms lack the ocean view. The water was pretty rough when we were there, we did not spend much time at the beach.

Riu Palace Baja California: Amazing Resort
Loved the Riu Palace Baja California! We came as a family of 6 on a long awaited trip. When we arrived we were immediately checked in. Rooms were spotless, very nice and modern. The resort was beautiful, the grounds were manicured and lots of flowers. The food was great, no complaints. The staff were all very nice and friendly. There was entertainment every night always something to do. It was nice that we were able to use the Riu Santa Fe and the Riu Palace if we wanted something different. I would definitely stay here again and would recommend this resort!

Hotel Emporio Ixtapa: Avoid at all cost
If you enjoy construction, constant noise, large mexican weddings, an over crowded pool, lousy food patio doors that don't open, hearing the announcer by the pool from 8 am to 9pm, an poorly stocked bar, air canada vacation reps trying to sell you over priced tourist packages, and the deserted restaurants of ixtapa...well this is the place for you.
Don't expect Trip Central to care, they are just selling the package and will do nothing even if you have been a customer for 11 years.
We just w[... read more]alked away from this place 3 days in and went to a hotel in Zihuatanejo.
Oh and if you are wondering if this is a get what you pay for experience, we've been travelling to ixtapa/zihua for 10 years and stayed in many nice places. We reviewed this hotel and it seemed nice. But we were totally ripped off here.

Tropicana Hotel: Great location, but that's it!
Bit of a bait and switch as what you've booked may end up being a very old, unacceptable, unrenovated unit on the second floor, or a very small unit with no balcony facing the street (versus the bay and a nice room). The place is a basic - 3* and could be a lot better with just a little bit of upgrading and support from the family ownership/management group. Staff try their best with what they have to work with.

Grand Oasis Cancun: Nice Resort
This was a really big resort. The restaurants were delicious, the ocean view room was really nice, and it was really clean. Lots of pools and the beach was gorgeous. The only thing is that this seems to be a party resort. They have a beach club that starts pounding music at 11, and it draws a large younger crowd of party goers. Just good to know if you’re looking for a quieter environment, this isn’t the place to go.

Posada Real Los Cabos: This venue is a 2 Star Motel at best
Grounds are nice, Venue overall is old - old -- Screaming out for an upgrade
Rooms are nice and clean - Require upgrade of leaking faucets, plugged drains, broken tile etc.
There are NO fridges or mini bars in the rooms - TV'S are foggy, unclear and work ONLY occasionally
You CAN NOT drink the local water
YOU are assigned TWO bottles of disposable water at check in and you are told to refill them at the large water coolers located at the end of the hall by your room during your entir[... read more]e stay - Ask for more water and there is an added fee to your room
There are NO ice machines anywhere in the hotel except at the bar, which seem to be out of ice whenever you ask for ice
We discovered our "ALL INCLUSIVE" reservation DID NOT really mean "all inclusive" as extra charges are also levied for such things as ice cream, ice, shrimp on ice (a regular menu item)
Taking a sandwich or a cookie to your room is deemed as to be worthy of a "room service" charge
Hot tub is at best "luke warm" and filled with infant children during the day - (Contrary to hotel posted signs saying no children under 5 years allowed - Yellow / Brown foam on the tub water appears daily, we believe this is a result of children under 5 defecating in the tub ALL DAY
Adults who consume 8 to 10 alcoholic drinks over many hours and never leave their children alone in the tub during that time period may also contribute to this disgusting daily ritual
The pool is cold and most of the ceramic tile is missing making it hard on your feet, cutting your toes
The beach is absolutely beautiful - Far from the bar, waiters and rest rooms of course
Food is not bad, refrigeration is sorely lacking ALL juices and drinks are in dispensers with cooling capability - But all are broken refridge wise making ALL soft drinks Luke warm to hot
Left overs from lunch becomes dinner menu - Dinner left overs become breakfast - etc.
Hot refried beans and cold wieners (referred to as sausages) are served breakfast, lunch and dinner
ALL alcoholic drinks are the cheapest booze available, much too sweet and/ or salty
The hotel claims it has TWO restaurants - Neither are opened simultaneously
God is great, Beer is good cold and there is lots of it
Staff are very nice and helpful
Stay out of the hot tub and pool - Enjoy Ocean dips only - Drink only cold beer - Eat only the few good meals served each week and you will have a fine time

Isla Natura Beach: What a shame!
We just got back from a week at this resort. We had gorgeous weather all week. The food was good, the chef does very well, until they run out... the snack bar menu never had the ribs; chicken wings were gone after first day, hamburgers and fries only lasted the first few days. The a-la-Carte’s for supper were very good, lots of choices. The two nights of buffet had limited choices of not very inviting food. The deserts were awesome tho! The drinks were pretty sucky. They ran out of beer 3 out [... read more]of our 7 days. They use litre bottles of pop, so it was pretty well always flat, what they had of it. They never had lime mix, so no margaritas. They ran out of strawberry or any other flavour mix except for tamarind by day two. Every drink was too watery, and that includes the cactus and any other type of juice at the restaurant! The shuttle up & down the hill was very good, except for when it was broken for a day and a half... The rooms were nice with a beautiful view but some minor maintenance would go a long way, such as replacing burnt out bulbs in the rooms and very dark hallway. We spent most of our days at the small beach, not very swimmable but gorgeous! The pool was turning green when we arrived at the hotel and was disgusting by the next day. We were told that the manager was away on vacation. When I spoke to the interim manager - Eduardo, about the pool, he didn’t see a big problem with it. His suggestion was for us to use the kiddy pool, going so far as to condescendingly show me where it was, really?!! Keep in mind that this is a pretty small resort. With a bunch of bleach, they were able to get the adult pool turned around late on the third day but it was starting to go green again on our last day. And by that point the kids pool was also green...
Most of the staff tries really hard at the resort, we felt bad for them trying their best with so little resources. We love Huatulco and still made the best of our vacation but we certainly would NOT recommend this resort

Barcelo Maya Palace: Family Resort
First impressions of this resort are jaw dropping and over the top. It is stunningly maintained and very structured with lots of concrete, bridges, pools and buildings. The beach is immaculately kept with soft white sand.
This is a family oriented resort with kids everywhere. We thought we'd be going when kids were in school. Wrong. If you are a couple looking to avoid children, find another resort.
Lots of money goes into stocking the bars and maintaining the grounds. The staff work ha[... read more]rd to keep this place looking amazingly prestine.
When we travel we are looking for good quality food but we didn't find it at this resort.
The quality of the food in the Brasserie a la carte restaurant was excellent. The rest of the food on the resort was very disappointing. Cafe style buffets are where you eat and the food is cold, undercooked and prepared too far in advance. The waste of food is incredible. Kids and families might like the variety of choices but the quality isn't there. When clearing away plates of wasted food I wish they would ask people if there was anything wrong with the food resulting in such waste. Maybe something might change. We tried about 6 different a la carte restaurants and other than the Brasserie, they were horrible.
There are some good things about this resort that might make it a perfect destination for families with kids. It is huge with lots of pools and beach areas for swimming. You can walk for a long time along the beach as well as the adjoining resorts so there are lots of places to move about throughout the day. The dolphin area is within walking distance and even if you don't swim with them, you can watch the daily shows.
The malls allow for shopping, bowling and internet access during certain hours. If you want nonstop internet access all day and night you will need to purchase it for about $10 US per day. In my opinion, internet access should be free.
Even though people are told not to feed the wildlife, they still do. Fish come into the shallow waters as do the sea turtles and pelicans.
This resort is perfectly located for anyone wanting to go into Playa Del Carmen, Tulum and Coba. Lots of tours are available. The public bus (Collectivo) comes right to the entrance of the resort on the main road. You can save a lot by taking this bus (van) service to and from the resort.

Grand Oasis Cancun: I was expecting better than that
Bad service, food was ok. You had to wait 20 mins to get a drink. Security guards were acting rough. The food wasn’t what I was expecting. I stayed 4 days in the resort and finally ended up in a airbnb. But best place to party and have fun.

Blue Bay Grand Esmeralda: Disappointed
I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. There is a nice pool area but the beach area is less than expected and the ocean water is on swimmable. There is a lagoon about 15 minutes away that’s beautiful but if you have any issues with mobility you would not get to see this lagoon. They have a policy at this hotel that you have to be there at 7 Am To reserve for the à la cart restaurants. This is absolutely absurd to have to wake up at six in the morning to reserve a meal for the next day an[... read more]d you can only do one for the next day. I say 6 AM because this hotel is spread across quite a distance and you need to walk from one place to the other which can take about 15 minutes . For anybody with mobility issues and or an injury or disability this hotel is a nightmare. I found many areas where it was not well lit and dangerous for all ages and even the main pathway was not lit in the early morning hours when you’re trying to go to a excursion. The staff are friendly and do react quickly in an emergency situation. This is a positive. However the bathrooms near the pool and beach area are extremely dangerous and slippery and there are no hooks behind the bathroom stall doors to put your belongings. I did appreciate the automatic flush , Sink and paper towels to keep illness at a lower level. The fact that this hotel only has one place to go late at night on the beach is unbelievable because they have a beautiful black-and-white bar that is semi indoors that could be used when the weather is unfavorable. The nightly shows were overtaken by the backdrop And constant video that runs over the dancers and performers which is very distracting as well as the music system not being of high-quality. The French restaurant had the best food and service. The other food is good but the Buffay does become a little bit monotonous. After making a Written complaint they did try to accommodate us by upgrading us to a suite and by allowing us to book all our à la cart restaurants at one time. This was very kind of them however it was a little too late as my three friends and I were already very disappointed with our experience for the first few days. My friends had no air conditioning for three days in their room. The Jacuzzi in the updated suites was small and almost on functionable. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone I will not return to this hotel. They do have a shuttle that goes to and from playa Del Carmen but the last shuttle returning is at 6 PM so if you want to go into town to experience the nightlife you need to take a $25 taxi ride to playa Del Carmen and a $25 taxi ride back which is not so great if you’re on a budget. The fact that the very first morning they called us three times in our room Around 8 o’clock in the morning was ludicrous. I’m post to be on vacation and I was having to get up earlier than I do for work at home. This was frustrating. I could continue with many many more observations and criticisms of this hotel but for the most part please don’t send anybody there. Thank you for your time and energy.

Grand Decameron Los Cabos: We enjoyed our stay
The Royal Decameron is an older resort. It is in need of some updating. But that doesn't mean you can not enjoy yourself there, especially if you are a Canadian attempting to get away from the cold of winter.
Here are some pros. Good location. Nice beach. Very good/friendly staff. Good service. Many Canadians vacation here so you will be comfortable with the other vacationers. It is a small resort so you see the same people often. That is not a bad thing in any way.
Some cons. There should b[... read more]e an elevator that connects the 3 levels. Food is very average. Only 1 menu restaurant. Most of the staff does not speak English. Coffee is provided in the room for the first day only. The daily activities are very limited. That could be improved considerably. The night entertainment was okay. One night was spectacular (3 Tenors). Michael Jackson night was good. Other nights were mostly dancing shows.
I am going to give the Royal Decameron a rating of 3.5 out of 5.0.
