We could have just as easily gone to Las Vegas. The buildings were all shiny and glitzy. Definitely nice but just not Mexican.
Positves: The food was plentiful. The drinks were good and at some bars they had premium brands. The beach was very nice. The room was comfortable and quiet. We were immediately checked into our room and they put my son and his wife across the hall. Staff was pleasant but not friendly.
Negatives: At check in we were not provided with any information about the r[... read more]esort except a map of the resort. When we entered our room there was an overwhelming odour of must and mold. I called the front desk and asked if they could put a deodorizer in and they sent someone right away. I would have asked for another room but my son had already unpacked and I wanted to be near them. It was better for one day and then the smell was back the next day. I asked for a refresh again and once again they responded immediately however once again it only lasted one day. We decided that since we were not in the room much and it was not hot we would live with it and open windows when we could. WIFI was only available at very limited 2 times during the day and only in a small area of the shopping mall. Not even enough places to sit.
We were given coupons to be used to reserve our meals at some of the special restaurants. We went to the guest services right away the next morning and we were not able to get our meals at any suitable dining times (either 5 pm or 9 pm) too early or too late. Went back a few times to see if there were a cancellation but we were only able to get one at the Mexican one and the Japanese one. At the Mexican one there were many empty chairs (more than 10 and no one came in to fill them. At the Japanese one there are supposed to be 12 chairs around the chef and he puts on a show. The fun in that was to be interacting with the other 8 people in the group but the 4 of us were alone. Once again a disappointing expereince. There was also an unpleasant altercation with our server and my daughter-in-law over the sake she bought for us. Really ruined the evening. So we had to eat all the rest of our meals in the buffet. There was lots of selections but all the food was either luke warm or downright cold. We started to just eat the food that was supposed to be cold. There was only 2 places to eat - the main buffet or the lunch only beach buffet. Very limited selection and once again COLD. I started to live on soup. There was another place called the Sports bar. It was mainly appetizers and snacks. It was a sports bar (surprise) and very noisy. There was no place to get a late night snack or drink because everything closed early (11 pm.) The beach chairs were plentiful and the sand was lovely however I was not expecting so many stones and rocks to get into the water. Water was clear and lots of fish swimming around. The water sports were too far away up the beach and mainly snorkeling. If there were any activities during the day we were not aware of them because we were not informed of anything. There was a main stage in the lobby of the outdoor shopping mall. They lasted about an hour and it was a surprise every day. They just set up folding chairs in the open hall. However the weather was very cold for 3 days and I had no winter clothes so sitting outside stopped many folks. We were thinking it would be fun to have so many activities available but everything cost extra. All in all a very disappointing week. Even if we had paid less it still would have been a failure but for the price we paid even a worse experience. We will continue to go to Mexico but certainly not this one!

Catalonia Playa Maroma: Great resort, 5 stars service
Unfortunately because of construction noise beside room 5118 we asked to be transferred to another room. Due to overbooking the hotel manager transferred us to Catalonia Royal Tulum which was great too. No fooling around they called and paid a taxi to the hotel and gave us Privilege guests and massages for free. Wow what a service. We want to go back to Catalonia Playa Maroma because we did not have enough time to appreciate this hotel. We recommend this chain of resort very much. Ocean Riviera Paradise: I had a great time.
I love this resort. The staffs were friendly, the room was big and clean. Food was good, we got to eat at a-la-carte restaurants every night. The food at the Daisy snack bar was excellent. My kids loved it. They enjoyed eating while swimming very much.
The shows were good too. I loved the bowling.
This is absolutely a 5-star resort.
The only thing that I did not like about the resort was the beach. The beach was beautiful but there was a lot of rocks, but there is nothing we can do about it.

Grand Riviera Princess: Ok resort
The resort and the rooms very clean and in very good condition.
Food fresh, lots of fruits, but seemed the same all the time.
Beach Sandy, but the water right where the main beach is smells, and it seems like there is brown water comingnoutnof the sink holes in the ocean close to the beach. Not sure if that was sewer or something else. Space on the beach very compacted. Everyone was on top of each other.

Bahia Principe Escape Sian Ka'an: First time but not the last!
First time to Mexico and all I can say about this resort was it was. 5 star from the time we were welcomed with smiles , drinks and wet cloth to the time we left with hugs from the staff.
Food was excellent from the a la cartes right down to the buffet. Snack bar by the pool was awesome, daily cleaning was bang on, with turn Down service at night to boot!
Never had to wait for trolleys, and the 10 min ride to the beach is nothing..if your looking for a party place, this is not it , although th[... read more]ey do have a disco in the other hotel. This is a low key , older crowd place to chill and relax and get pampered. Beach is nice but rocky but next to the dock it's sandy and you swim with fish,!! Too cool..
There are a few pools located close to each other so always chairs and fresh towels all day long, with waitress service..
Both places have the waitress handing out fruit kebobs.. yummy.
Drinks are premium and asking for stronger is not a problem! Loll
Lots of activities to do but at $50 to $100 a person/US..( coming from Canada) that's pricey if you want to do a few.
Definitely giving it a 5 star..and going back next year.

Paradisus Playa del Carmen: 5 star all the way!
This was the 6th all-inclusive we have been to, and by far the best! Very family-oriented, great service, great food (not just for Mexico standards!) The pirate pool and baby club were both great for our 2&4 year olds!

Bahia Principe Explore Coba: Great Resort!
The resort was very good. Lots of food options and transportation around the resort. Service was always very good. The air conditioner in our room did leak a fair bit but otherwise was very good. We couldn’t get our room service to work to get food in the evenings but otherwise everything was perfect.

Bahia Principe Explore Akumal: A superb resort
We loved the restaurants, both the à la carte and buffets. The beaches were clean and well maintained. Sharing all 4 resorts gave you lots of options to try their restaurants, pools, bars and entertainment venues. The shuttles were fast, frequent and easy to flag down; they even play musc on board in the evenings. All the staff we encountered were friendly and helpful. This was the best all-inclusive resort we’ve stayed at in Mexico and we’ve been at 7 other 4 and 5 stars.

El Dorado Seaside Palms: Go for the service, food, & gorgeous grounds including beach!
TIP: Joining the facebook group for this resort prior to the trip was VERY helpful!
If you go for the rooms, you'll be slightly disappointed. The Sensimar side of the resort is older, so there are mature palms, but the rooms are dated and dim.
Rooms: Originally, I was in 4028 (end of the hall), overlooking a pool. I was afraid it was going to be too loud, but there was barely anyone in it! (Tbh, I didn't even dip my toe in it because there wasn't much action.) I did find the AC a bit loud [... read more]and midway, it completely broke, leaking, and shooting out ice. However, the problem was rectified and we were moved 2906, in the Premium Beach Front block.
(I wouldn't write a negative review based on broken AC, unless the resort did nothing to solve the problem)
I also found the AC in 2906 a bit loud, it sounded as though it was raining outside, but hey, at least it was functional. Being a beach front room, I think it would've been good if guests were able to exit their rooms via the patio door instead of walking all the way around the front.
TIP: If you like to watch tv before you go to bed, I'd recommend you download some movies. I don't know if they have satellite or dish, but the quality is quite bad and the channels are very limited. They seemed to play the same movies every other night. Not a big deal for most, I'm sure.
Service: Most of the staff were very friendly, greeting you with a "Hola" whenever they would cross paths. About half of them would go above and beyond their usual tasks.
Personal Concierge: Absolutely useless. Alejandro, our original concierge, didn't offer us any tips or extra info. Booking of the 2 restaurants was soo archaic and can only be done during certain hours from 8:30am - 2:30pm. Concierge literally has to call each restaurant, where the phone seemed to ring endlessly. It was a time killer! Alejandro also said "restaurants are fully booked". However, when we went for our reservation at Klay Talay (Asian), it was only 1/4 full!
So if you can't make your reservations, literally just walk in and ask if they'll accommodate you.
You can use any of the concierges if yours is closed or unhelpful. Again, the facebook group for this resort was much more helpful than the personal concierge.
Food: My favourite restaurant, that you didn't need any reservations for, was without a doubt Mia Casa (on the Seaside). Food also seemed to taste better there. Other honourable mentions goes out to: Seaside Market (for breakfast), Beach BBQ (breakfast & lunch, primarily for the convenience and atmosphere), & Culinarium for lunch/dinner.
I didn't like Driftwood (lunch), Klay Talay (Asian by reservation), Seaside Market (for dinner, no variety), or Arrecifes (dim, nursing home atmosphere). You definitely won't go hungry! Overall, I think your experience varies on what you order. Sometimes there are inconsistencies in terms of how one dish tastes/looks depending on the night. It may say roasted chicken on the menu, but you end up with stewed or something like that.
There are soo many bars on this resort, it's quite possible to not even go to half of them during a week's stay!
Drinks: Most of the drinks have added syrup/sugar, so I learned to ask them to make a drink less sweet. If you want the Top Shelf liquor, you have to ask for it, re: Grey Goose, Don Julio, etc.
Crowd, Noise-Level, Activities, Shows, etc.: I'm not sure if I went during low season, but the crowd was a bit older and things were quite tame. I usually make it out for every nightly show, at other resorts, and this time, I was only able to make it out to ONE. They were quite late, ~9:30pm.
I usually tend to participate in all pool-side activities, but for some reason, I only made it out to one. I think it's because the beach was just so nice, that more people tended to migrate there, instead of the pools. Animation team wasn't super aggressive in recruiting people to participate.
Crowd was older, primarily British, then American, lastly Canadian and most people seemed to keep to themselves.
Overall, I'd return again and would recommend it to friends/family with some comments on what to expect!

Ocean Coral Riviera Cancun: What a GEM
Grounds were well maintained.
Pools were clean.
Beach was very nice.
Food was fantastic
Drinks were plentiful (no hassles from bartenders)
Staff was very friendly and helpful
The only issue was the "Showtime Theatre" that was built near the rooms. This was somewhat loud and echoed throughout the courtyard where the rooms were situated; anyone wishing to turn in early was out of luck.

Royalton Hideaway Riviera Cancun: Hiding away at the Royalton Riviera Cancun
We stayed in the Hideaway section of the Royalton in December. We also chose the Diamond Club option.
The GOOD -
- Fabulous resort, contemporary furnishings, very clean including all the grounds.
- Well appointed rooms with comfy beds, rainfall showers, safe for valuables, mini bar, room service large flat screen TV with a huge array of channels including HBO, TNT, Space, etc. The TV was the control centre for all the programming at the hotel and info.
- The room also had a lot of outle[... read more]ts both normal 110v and USB. That was super handy. Wifi service was top notch (great connectivity).
- Our butler Miguel was fantastic -- he decorated our room for our anniversary and always was looking to see how he could make our visit a great one
- The buffet is the best we have ever had at an all inclusive resort - a large assortment of options including a gelato bar (the cinnamon and chocolate were our faves)
- A large array of options for dining.
- The breakfast at the Dorado was wonderful. Close to the beach and nice to be served.
- Friendly helpful staff
- Lots of comfy loungers by the pool
- The resort is a mere 15 minutes from Cancun airport.
The NEEDS IMPROVEMENT
- BEVERAGES - The house wines are really not great. The champagne was ok in Mimosa's but not so great otherwise, and the other house wines were not great either. We don't require the most expensive, but we have stayed at other resorts where the house wines were considerably better. So if you want a decent bottle of wine - spring for something on the list. The cocktail menu was quite good though!
- ROOM CLEANING - we let our butler know we liked our room cleaned in the mornings. One day we came back to the room mid afternoon and the room had not been touched even though we had been gone about 6 hours. It took 3 calls and 2 hours to get it resolved and get us clean towels so we could bathe for dinner. That was not great. Giving credit where it is due - our butler went the next day and made sure our room was made up! Miguel was fantastic!
- We had some minor glitches at some a la carte restaurants. It wasn't that busy as we went in mid December, but they brought all my food at once at Zen (soup, main). Also, my hubby got served his beverage right away and I had to ask twice for mine. Then they come and apologize to my hubby, when his meal was fine. Odd that - apologies should go to the person you inconvenience folks.
- Also the elevator was not working 2-3 times when we were there -- however it was not far to take the stairs and if one needed an elevator there was one a little further down the road
All told, it was a great experience and we thought the resort was beautiful.
We would likely go back and hope that the resort finds the feedback worthwhile.
Note -- I would likely have given the resort a 4.5 star if I could have

Ocean Coral Riviera Cancun: Fantastic Resort!!!!
We had any amazing time at the Ocean Coral in Mexico. The room, food, entertainment, staff, beach and amenities were far beyond our expectations. Sandos Caracol Nature Resort and Water Park: Amazing Experience!
I loved this resort! So much to do and see without leaving the resort, natural cenote to snorkel in, petting zoo, Cat-land, wild monkeys and Coati roaming the grounds. The pool was good, but food was a bit of a walk if you were on the beach or at the main pool. The rooms were nice, had bunk beds in the room even though I did not use them. Big resort, so lots of walking needed.

Bahia Principe Explore Coba: Excellent resort minus one thing.
We have stayed here once before about 4 years ago but stayed at the Tulum Resort. We came back because the staff are a great help and the food is wonderful. The beach was being restored at that time (and still is). The drawback is the beach. Not only is it still being restored but has been reduced in size for those staying at Tulum and especially Coba, where we stayed this time. For those staying at Coba, which requires a Cartrain to get you to the beach, by the time you get there all the spots [... read more]are taken. For those staying at Coba, in reality, you have no beach.

Grand Sirenis Riviera Maya: Extremely Beautiful Resort
Very freindly staff superior rooms lots of nature to enjoy such as Monkey Iguanas Kouati’s Butterflies Toucans etc etc. The Oceanfront was very nice with ample loungers for everyone great snorkling out front and the pools were very clean and well kept. Every meal at the Buffets and ala cartes were excellent
