Club Kawama: Party Resort

Loved the people, everyone went out of the way to meet you.. The rooms were standard, the food basic but facilities were good. If I were to make changes it would be to upgrade rooms to have a patio on lower level, improve the food and have an Animation Team to have the guests be involved with games/events and participation activities. Great price and would recommend this resort.

Roc Barlovento: Roc Barlovento, Varadero, Cuba April 09- 16, 2017

Our trip to Varadero Cuba was not good. It was Amazing!!! The room was nice, the beds were comfortable, always fresh towels. The air conditioning worked well, the refrigerator worked well. We had hot water, We watched "Showtime" late at night. All the staff were very friendly and accommodating. The swimming pool was nice but the beach was simply breathtaking. The live entertainment at night was so much fun, everybody got to dance wit [... read more]h the performers (if you were brave enough) Short walk to the flea market, cheap cab ride to the "Beatles Bar" where we spent 5 out of 6 nights. All in all it was probably the most fun I've ever had on a one week vacation. We already want to book a 10 day trip in November.

Melia Las Antillas: Nice Resort

Staff very friendly as usual for Cuba. Small resort so not tons of walking which is nice. Elevator access which is great for when your tires or for those who have difficulties walking. Grounds were always well kept and pretty. The surrounding water within resort was cool they have a shark that swims around and eats the algae. That was neat. But other then that there is [... read more] always something to eat. our room was stocked with 3 bottles of liquor (but not right away had to ask for it) not a big deal. And we were suppose to alway have two beers restocked and kept in fridge thy never happened The only suggestion or complaint I would have to say is that they do need more entertainment durin. The day at the pool. There was very little and nothing that exciting. Been to other places in varadero and entertainment knocked this place out of the park. But over all a great place for the money, very clean and pretty grounds. :)

Blau Privilege Cayo Libertad: Cuba Great!

The lobby service was efficient and pleasant, rooms were 'cuba great' meaning definitely below the standards we are use to but definitely better than many other resorts we have visited in Cuba. Maid service was good. Grounds were neat. Pool and pool bar were fantastic. Rolando is the best! Restaurant was hit and miss. Tables were often dirty and sometimes wait staff acknowledged you in 1 minute and sometimes twenty minutes. Sometimes food came in 5 minutes and sometimes in an hour. I heard of pe [... read more]ople waiting over 2 hours from when they came in until they got food. The food itself was very good. Cigar Bar was very enjoyable. Would have liked to play more pool but staff seemed to be playing most of the time. Service was hit and miss here too. To make this hotel better I would suggest: More wait staff. More carts going back and forth to sister resort. Snacks available between restaurant hours.

Gran Caribe Sun Beach: Close to all the action

I love this hotel it's located downtown varadero with a all inclusive has to offer. You can't expect much for a 3 star the food was okay for Cuba and nothing really fancy like a 5 star would have. The staff where fun and very nice. Sometimes the elevators did not work and we did have hot water the whole time which was nice. The rooms were not the nicest but the beds we had where new and comfortable. I like that you can go to all sorts of clubs at night and you don't have to stay at the resort a [... read more]ll the time. You are close to a lot of restaurants that are cheap and are very good. You can mingle with the Cubans at night in all the clubs. The beatles club is more so for Canadian s however we took some cubans there and they loved it. The Karaoke club on 44 is a must go. Beach by day and party by night is all I have to say. Loved it been there 12 times already.

Resonance Blu Varadero: Great value, great beach!

The resort is huge, the food options plentiful and very good. You hear about the food in Cuba as being less than desirable, but here the food really is tasty, and you can be sure that all ages will find things they like. The pools are fabulous, the beach is extraordinary. This resort stands out for it's service and people. They are amazing. The shows are worth paying for, but they're all included! The rooms are not so fabulous. They are clean, but plumbing is an issue. Check your room out a [... read more]nd insist on a room change if the plumbing doesn't work well or if any minor thing is broken (toilet paper holder hanging off wall, etc). Some of these things are in the hotels power to fix and maintain and they to be held accountable to do so. Some other things, like plumbing that works but not well, is out of their control. Remember where you are, Cuba struggles to provide what we find minimum standards. Reset your expectations and settle for clean and working rather than clean and perfect. You will find that the only thing this resort can't offer is great plumbing. Everything else is there and more than makes up for it. You will enjoy this resort.

Melia Las Antillas: great mother daughter vacation

We just got home a couple of days ago. Had a wonderful time. Our check in was very quick. The front desk staff were very helpful when we asked questions. The staff were friendly. We had an oceanview room which we loved. The resort is clean. We did find it does need some repairs but that did not bother us after all it takes time and money. We went to the beach and it was nice yellow flag every day though but did not stop us. The pool area is nice plenty of chairs we just found the entertainment [... read more] could be improved. The walk way to the beach is nice with a little bar and bbq there where you can sit and get a drink and a sandwich. The grounds are nice. The thing we liked was everything was central. Not much of a walk to get to the restraunts or beach. We sat at the lobby bar at night and enjoyed the music. There was lots of food so anyone who says they were hungry is just too picky. We love Cuba and I have been there 11-12 times and would keep going. The resort has friendly staff and is clean and I would not hesitate to recommend someone going there. I feel your holiday is what you make it and if you don't like it don't go back. Overall we enjoyed ourselves and have nothing bad to say. I'll probably go back as I loved the grounds and staff.

Sanctuary at Grand Memories Varadero: Good Resort

We enjoyed our week in Varadero at the Sanctuary at Grand Memories. The resort was clean, for the most part, but we did have some issues with our room - the stand-up shower drained so slowly that if you tried to use it, you flooded the bathroom and hallway - this was how we started morning one. Luckily there is a shower in the large soaker tub we used for the remainder of the week. The food was quite good, especially the Gala dinner. We went to the buffet on the GM side once - dirty tables set with clean cutlery, missing tongs/spoons to pick up food, cold food, etc. Breakfast at the Sanctuary restaurant was YUMMY, although sometimes slow. Once suggestion - they need more shade available at the pool especially. The towel game was nasty - if you wanted a palapa in the Sanctuary section at the beach, or shade at the pool you had to be there before 7 am to mark it with your towels. We had Diamond Club and enjoyed top shelf liquor, 1 hr free wifi per day, and the poolside dinner. Our butler Hannoy was great. The room could have been much cleaner and bottled water was not always easy to get - we often didn't get the 2L/day as promised. My guess is this was an "off" week as many reviews for this place are fantastic. We likely won't return, but only because we like to visit different places in our travels.

Iberostar Origin Laguna Azul: Not Terrible...

This resort was disappointing. Not a terrible time , it just lacked in quality and entertainment compared to other places we've stayed in varadero. The lobby isn't very open to the outdoors so it's very smokey. Almost unbearable if your a non smoker like myself. The food was the exact same everyday in the buffet lunch and dinner. Breakfast was ok, the bacon is never cooked but if you take it up the chef will fry it longer for you. 24 he snack bar only served fries hamburger and hotdogs and ran o [... read more]ut late in the evening on the day we arrived. Pizza is served at snack bar on a random days . The resort advertise more snack bars but there was only open for lunch and the other was back/24 he one The bars were either the swim up, beach bar or lobby which was laid out very inconveniently and has ZERO entertainment. The lobby bar had a piano playing every night which was not entertaining. This resort had very little in terms of music and entertainment aside from the Little theatre shows which were not great. All that nit pickyness aside it's Cuba. If you've been there before you know what to expect. The beach at this resort was incredible. Simply beautiful. But I would not rank this hotel any higher than 3.5 . Elevators were broken, one day all the toilets were closed so you had to walk from beach to the main lobby and then no toilet paper. Wifi is available but it's a terrible connection. The a la carte were delicious.

Sirenis Tropical Varadero: has potential but trip was misrepresented

First off, we loved our oceanfront room except we had very little water daily to take a shower (ie just a trickle and you either had hot or cold water-nothing in between). The coffee bar was amazing and we loved the grounds and the beach and ocean was amazing. Food was as expected - with a little help and organization, the buffet would be superb. What we weren't happy with was: 1. we booked 8 nights which our trip central itinerary confirmed however our Sunwing receipt showed 7 nights and w [... read more]hen we attempted to resolve with Sunwing to ensure we were able to keep our room for our last night (our flight wasn't until 3:25am), we were told they only booked us for 7 nights, regardless of what our Trip Central itinerary said. ( I had copies with me). 2. When we booked via Trip Central, we specifically chose Oceanfront Beach Club Bungalows for the extra perks that came with that booking. When we inquired, we were advised that was old information and they no longer provided-very disappointing not to get what we paid for: *private check in (didn't happen) *special discounts on massages (didn't attempt to book) *private breakfast (didn't happen) *salsa classes (didn't happen) *1 bottle of room per stay/room upon arrival (didn't receive) *first priority reservation, restaurant a la carte (they refused) *unlimited a la carte restaurant (only permitted max 4 for our stay) *special BBQ dinner once per week (not offered) *Bar Mojito exclusive for clients of the beach club section (wasn't open) All in all we enjoyed our vacation but would be hesitant to book through Trip Central again as we did not get what we paid for.

Iberostar Origin Playa Alameda: Clean but dated in dire need of repair to bathroom bed was terrible

Not the best needs some update dining was terrible meals were the same everyday the night shows we're okay the showers didn't work well door couldn't shut properly room smelt must the waiters were very helpful but I would rate this hotel as 4 stars check in was fine

Iberostar Selection Varadero: Great hotel

We are a family with a 2 years old. We stayed 5 days at april and we really appreciate this hotel and also booking with tripcentral. The staff is really friendly and they were so kind with us. The beach is great and also pools. I recommend it.

Playa Caleta: Sub par

This hotel was ok. Typical Cuba toilets with no Toilet Paper or toilet seats. Boring same food everyday. Super slow elevator and paper thin room walls. Your neighbors sound like they're in your room when they're talking. The room was cleaned well daily and all the staff was friendly except some at the front desk. Pitiful tour bus pick up and drop off to go downtown.

Resonance Blu Varadero: 1st time to Cuba

This was our first time to Cuba. Resort: Nice well kept landscaping at the resort. Lots of flowers and trees. Don't book this resort if you are not able to walk long distance. Our room was close the beach and it took us close to 6min to get to the Lobby/Restaurant area. Pools/Beach: We did not use the pools, for simple fact we are not pool people. We however did go to the beach many times. The beach was absolutely beautiful and was always clean. There are plenty of lounge chairst. Ther [... read more]e is beach volleyball and dancing on the beach everyday. If you want to relax and don't want any noise, it is easy enough to go to the farther side of the beach and no one will bother you. Room: We stayed in 31 building and on ground floor. Our room was clean and no smell at all. Bathroom was nicely modern and updated with a great hot shower at any time of the day. Unfortunately the shower curtain was missing so the floor got wet every time we showered. The beds were ok. We had a king bed with a cot in there. The bed was hard, but still manageable. Food: As for the buffet we were quite pleased with the selection for Breakfast and Supper. The only drawback are the birds in the dinning room. They fly deep and try to eat with you from your plate. That can create may be some health issuses. From the á la carte restaurants we tried the Cuban and the Italian Restaurant. Both were quite nice and tastefull. Public Bathrooms : We really don't understand why there are no locks at the doors, what is the big deal to put a lock on it. Also they need to be better cleaned and they should put a light in it too. Checkin: We arrived in the middle of the night. The first impression you get when entering the lobby is the noise level. It was so loud we could not understand a word. So it was very tricky to get the right information about your room and all the other things. Check out: Was easy and conviniend. Having to check out at noon was not a big deal. You can leave your bags in that room off to the side. The only drawback was to take a shower at the spa that day. There were no extra towels, the shower had only cold water, there were no shampoo and shower gel bottles and no fans. Entertainment: The entertainment was great. There was a different show every night at the theater. The music from the live bands were great too. Staff: You can tell some are happy and some just are not ( or maybe it very well could be a language barrier) but you get that at any job.

Melia Peninsula Varadero: Beautiful beach!

This resort is being slowly renovated so at this time it is more of a 4 star resort. Our room was updated so the bathroom was quite new but the door is made of sliding glass so it is a problem for those needing to go during the night. The shower was awesome as it had not only a hand held but also a rain shower head. We also had a balcony which is quite handy for hanging towels and bathing suits. The beach is very long but not very wide but has a lot of palapas for shade and lounge chairs. It [... read more] is very quiet meaning no boat traffic that we have had at other resorts. There is a great kids/teenager club who keep them busy and they even put on a show for the parents. They were very entertaining even for people without kids. They also offer workouts at the beach and poolside and dance lessons to everyone who wants to join them. The food was quite surprising as there was lots of good meat, an unending supply of fresh fish, vegetables, cheese, fruit and other desserts. We went to all of the a la carte restaurants and they were all excellent - we even went back to a few. Our favourites were the "Bistro" and "Italien". All restaurants offered red, white and rose wine which to my great surprise were quite good but you can also purchase wine from a wine list. The buffet that is conveniently located right near the beach was good but can be repetitive for food choices but that is to be expected since it is smaller than the large one located further away at the reception area. The grounds are quite beautiful and they are constantly working on improving them. Overall this is a great resort and we really enjoyed our time there.

Melia Marina Varadero: Good Resort.

We found that even though the resort was not very old, that it was starting to show some wear and tear. It was clean and the rooms were decent but the beds and pillows were very hard. The entertainment nightly was excellent on every level-something different every night-the best I've seen at an all inclusive ever! The staff were pleasant but there was a huge communication gap as hardly any of them spoke any English. The food was good (not great as expected) and we had brought our own seasonings  [... read more]and hotsauce, etc. Unfortunately, they would run out of certain good foods early in the day or evening. The pictures in the advertisement on Sunwing/Trip Central do not reflect the actuality of the exterior of the hotel grounds. All in all, we had a very pleasant and relaxing holiday in Cuba at this resort.

Punta Peninsula Varadero: 7th trip to cuba 3rd to Blau Marina

This was our 3rd time at this resort, beautiful grounds a very nice rooms. We stayed 22 block, there are 3 pools and the one behind 22 block was very quiet and had a pool bar. You need bug spray at this resort, spray in evening and you will be fine. Very decent entertainment. Had a couple issues that were quickly resolved by customer service. This hotel was over booked, very large resort so it never felt crowded. Except for the buffett, it was very busy and they couldnt keep up. There was a plat [... read more]e, cutlery shortage and some of the people working various stations could have done a much better job moving the line along. Workers dancing with the entertainment while dozens of people waited for clean plates. 7th time to cuba however this time we were disapointed with the food customer service. Very nice marina with shops across the road very convenient. Great resort for beach pools price. This will be our last time to this resort.

Roc Arenas Doradas: Amazing Facility!

The grounds were beautiful and very well kept. The hotel was kept very clean and had that Spanish charm but it could use some minor repairs. The patio doors did not lock and we had to change rooms because of termites in the closet and bed. The staff was not really telling us that it was termites but we recognized them on the white sheets. The staff were friendly, helpful and quick to please. I would recommend this hotel, it was well laid out, efficient and very safe.

Iberostar Origin Laguna Azul: Very nice resort

Resort was very well kept, food was good, friendly staff. Our room service was terrible, still cleaning at 6pm, a few days no shower mat, no hand towels. In our sons room a few days they used their beach towels as there were no towels in their room.

Roc Barlovento: Beautiful Resort

My 11 day stay at the Roc Barlovento was AMAZING, the grounds of this resort was always cleaned , ashtrays in very corner of the resort therefore no cigarettes butts on the ground which i found this very very good and clean. The Resort is adapted for wheelchairs which is a + and it is an Adult Resort and alot of French Canadian speaking people. They had Pargola's near the swimming pool which was great if you didn't want to have to much sun. The food was very good alot of varieties , 2 resturants a la carte (mexican and mediterrean-fusion). There was also the Ranchon near the Beach which was Bar BQ each day and they also had ice cream cones. The beach was Amazing to walk on, always kept it clean and also lifeguards to help out. I have been going to Varadero for 14 years and always at another Resort - this Resort the Barlovento was great and I would go back for sure.
