This was our second time at the Riu Tropical Palace in Negril. The beds are comfy, and the rooms are set up with everything you need, including a well stocked mini bar. The beach is beautiful, and there are lots of loungers in the shade. There is no need to wake up at 6:00am, to hunt for them.
The food at the buffet, is the best we have ever had anywhere! I love the Jamaican choices, and the international variety. The servers and chefs are so lovely, and helpful. They work so incredibly hard bu[... read more]t are also so cheerful, and proud of their efforts!
One bartender named Gray, went and got me Ting, ( a Jamaican grapefruit drink), when I mentioned it was available last Christmas, and was disappointed that I could not have it this holiday. I believe he went to the store himself, and purchased it. This is 5 star service! We loved the laughter at the bar, with all the bartenders, who are obviously good friends, this makes a warm and fun experience for everyone:)
I had one complaint, which I voiced to the manager… The lights in the ladies washroom, were on an energy time saver. The problem was, they would go out after about 15 seconds, and the whole bathroom was pitch black. The next day after dinner, when I used the ladies room, the problem was corrected.
We met lots of wonderful guests from all over the world, who we enjoyed getting to know very much.
This is a very lovely beach resort, suitable for couples, friends, or families. It has a gentle, calm and welcoming atmosphere for all.

Catalonia Montego Bay: Jamaica, what a country
First time in Jamaica.
Compared to other countries hotel was clean enough.
Food 9/10
Beach 7/10
Entertainment 6.7/10
Christmas party celebrations could have been more extravagant.
Hotel staff also were not too friendly but got better later on.
No volleyball, huge disappointment along with beach being just okay.

Ocean Coral Spring: Relaxing and Worth it
I was sceptical of the resort based on some reviews regarding the resort showing its age, but it really is a fantastic resort. Some tiles cracked and the grout needs repair, but that had no impact on how much we enjoyed our trip. The food was great and plentiful. I would have liked my fruit and vegetable options, but I think that is just a sign of the times with inflation and likely the case at many resorts now. There are plenty of a la cartes and you never have to wait. Shawuna at the buffet is [... read more]the kindest soul on earth and made our trip amazing. The staff is very friendly and attentive. The decor is absolutely stunning. The pools are great for young kids. We travelled with our 19 month old and she had a blast. I was also 7 months pregnant and never felt that it was a chore to walk places - it’s the perfect sized resort. The beach is rocky, but bring shoes and you’ll be fine.
Our only complaint is that it is far from the airport (an hour without stops). On our way there, Sunwing was very poorly organized and it took over 2 hours to get to the hotel with stops. They provided no water and no food was available at the airport so it was a long day without anything to eat.

Loved the Resort Set Up. Everything close by. Couldn’t get lost looking for Restaurants, Pools, Bars, or Ocean. All right there.

My biggest complaint was the whole App business.

Bahia Principe Escape Runaway Bay: Awesome Resort
The resort grounds and buildings were beautiful. There were so many great options for restaurants. The food was incredible and the service very good. Our room in building 26 on the Luxury side of the resort was very large and comfortable with an impressive view of the Ocean from the moment you open the door. It definitely is worth the bit extra to have ocean view. The evening entertainment was ok with various acts each night like Violin or piano and or singer plus a main show that is about [... read more]an hour. Most nights afterwards there was a Karaoke sports bar to fall back to. The resort is quite large so it's great for walking and the beaches ranged from ok to good depending on what you are used to. The Bahia ap is convenient to book and keep track of your reservations as well as for speeding up check-in and for self check out. Don Pablo's and The Knife restaurants were probably my favourites, but the Japanese and Asian were both really good also. For Lunch Jazmin, the Round Island, and Las Olas were all great. Pisces was ok and convenient. All had views of the ocean while dining. For day bars Coconuts on the beach was the best with waiter service on the beach being a nice Luxury we enjoyed.

Riu Negril: Five Star all the Way!
Where to start? The people; the resort staff are absolutely wonderful, super professional and helpful. The activities staff are super fun, and great at drawing shy people in to include them in activities. There are lots of activities to suit everyone's interests. My favourite shows were the Jamaican cultural evening and the Silver Wings Steel Pan band. The food was excellent, we ate mainly at the buffet because we like to eat outside and there was a great variety of food, I rarely had the same t[... read more]hing more than twice and the fish was fresh and cooked to perfection. The facilities were well maintained and cleaned. Our only disappointment was the beach was closed due to high surf for most of the week but not the hotel's fault, there are three lovely, clean pools with lots of activities to compensate.

Bahia Principe Explore Jamaica: Xmas family trip
This is my review of our stay from Dec 16-23
i would 1st say if you can get Club Mobay make sure you do as it save so much time. I then would suggest a private transfer so you are not waiting on the bus for who knows how many people. we used Garreth Brown from get on board tours which was the best, best prices and with the price you get a drink included. When we got to the resort we stayed on the Grand side and check in was quick and smooth, I had 2 rooms and 1 room was ocean view in building 1[... read more]8 5th floor and the other was building 18 sea view. The rooms in Building 18 are completely renovated and are amazing.
The pools-
the pools are a little cold when you 1st get in but otherwise are amazing and swim up bar is the best. The staff make sure pool is clean every morning, we would be down by the pool by 830 am and no problem getting a chair to sit on.
Beach-
the grand side beach is so large and never hard to find a spot to sit, the beach is well taken care of and little to no rocks going into the ocean and the ocean water is very warm as we spent a morning in the ocean well it was raining. they have a beach bar and also the jerk shack that is a must try.
entertainment staff-
All I can say is they are the nicest and most outgoing people you will meet at the resort
restaurants-
buffets are well stocked and so many choices to pick from and always easy to find food you want.
a la carte Restaurants-
the knife-food was very good but the timing of getting food could be better as it took over 1 hour to get are main dishes
Dolce vita(italian cuisine) the service was amazing and the food was very good and good size meals
Mikado- the service was again amazing and the food was so good and was fun having it cooked in front of you
Bars- service at times were slow but they are all so happy to serve drinks and lots of choices.
i would say not to pay for the luxury side unless you don't want to be around kids if that is the case then go to adult only resort. For this resort most things are on the Grand side, the resort is big not hard to walk around in a short time. They have the shopping area on property called the village and you can get everything you need from there. We never checked out the disco as we stayed at the karaoke bar which is in the main lobby of the grand side.
So for the people that bitch and complain about this resort i am not sure why as we have always stayed at Sandals resorts before this and I would go back to this resort. not all elevators work but not a big deal, so if you are on the fence about this resort becasue of the people that complain about the smallest inconveniences DO NOT LISTEN TO THEM go and have a great time as they must be a little to entitled for this resort then.

Royalton Hideaway Negril: AVOID!
Hideaway at Royalton was a big disappointment. Their mindset seems to be this; you’ve already given us your money, we don’t care about you when you get to the resort.
Let me go through a few of my experiences:
1. After 12 hours of travel, we arrive at the resort night, the Hideaway lobby is closed, we go to the main lobby (family friendly area) and the workers are shocked by our arrival as if we did not have this booked months in advance. No one helped us find our rooms in the dark! The room[... read more] was freezing and the AC was impossible to find (would have been nice for someone to show us around), We went to sleep hungry (no food available).
2. We NEVER received any welcome or orientation about the resort. The individuals working here are extremely rude (with a few exceptions). No one is willing to apologize for mistakes. Waiters/Waitresses were very nice, but thats about it. Hostess for restaurants were extremely rude.
3. Cockroaches everywhere. That says it all.
Overall, the food was fine, there are select few of the workers who are friendly. However, the reception is so disorganized, unwelcoming and uncaring. NOT worth all the money.

Riu Ocho Rios: Terrific resort
I am not a fussy person and I appreciate and am grateful when people have to work hard for a living so keeping that in mind...
Let me start with the grounds....beautiful.
This includes the pool (cleaned every morning along with the deck), beach and common areas outside.
The buffet was huge it had a large variety of different food every day for breakfast ,lunch and dinner and it was very tasty. The steak a-la-carte was delicious and the portion was huge. We did not try any of the other a-la[... read more]-carte's.
Room had a funny smell (bug spray I think) but it was very clean, well stocked.
The lobby and seating areas were clean ,we did see 2 cockroaches sitting across from the sports bar overlooking the beach, but this was an outdoor area and they could of came from the outside. (only 1 time did I see bugs this was it). Wait staff was perfect and most staff were attentive and engaging. Bars were clean and getting a drink was a breeze. The sport's bar also had nacho chips and patties to snack on later at night.
The only reason I have to take a 1/2 star away is because, a couple of the staff got a little rude in there response to some questions and seemed to have an bad attitude.
I would have to give this resort a 4 1/2 star.

Riu Ocho Rios: Excellent Resort
Hotel was very clean and easy to get around. Food was amazing with a wide variety for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Pools were clean with plenty of seating. Sports bar came in handy to watch football and relax
This resort is very well kept and all common areas are very visually appealing. The rooms are fairly well appointed although not enough outlets to charge all devices. The a la Carte dining experiences were enjoyable but the buffet needs a serious upgrade. The fruit was not appealing. Hot foods were not kept hot enough. I used the on-site microwave several times to warm up my plate of food.
The noise level (if your room faces the pool area) was constantly irritating. Sitting on the room balcony[... read more] to have peace and quiet to read a good book was NOT happening. I was in the luxury side, adults only. I will never stay on this side again. The family side (even with the kids) was much more peaceful.

Bahia Principe Explore Jamaica: Beautiful Resort and Grounds
This resort is large so the pool and beach bars a pre-made slushie style coladas and daiquiri, so don't expect fresh fruit there. The lobby bar has better quality drinks. Buffets were plentiful and satisfactory. Our superior oceanview jr suite room was pretty standard with a beautiful view. The resort (Dec 2023) is in the process of updating their rooms (USB ports, etc)
Just over an hour drive from the Montego Bay airport. Different beaches spread out across the the resort. Kids Waterp[... read more]ark, they loved and nice its location on one of the beaches and had a bar for refreshments for young and old.

Riu Palace Jamaica: accessing to other resorts were big plus
During my initial visit to Jamaica, I must commend the excellent service provided by the staff. I never sensed that their efforts were solely motivated by tips; they genuinely appeared happy and accommodating. The overall atmosphere was delightful, and the food was exceptional. While I'm not a fan of pastries, I suggest the management consider sending their pastry chefs for training. This improvement could make a significant difference, especially for those seeking to enjoy a delightful Jamaican[... read more] coffee accompanied by a pastry.

Riu Palace Jamaica: RiU Palace Montego Bay did not disappoint
We booked our vacation (high school buddies) with Beth Mckinley from Trip Central, she was attentive and very effective. We appreciated her customer service and her professionalism.
The transfer to hotel was smooth once we got going. The hotel is one of 3 RIU properties that are side by side with the Palace at the centre. They are all adults only which was great. What made our vacation exceptional was the staff. They are Riu’s best resources! Management should treat them better however[... read more], for example, allow them to access wifi during their breaks, allow them to eat at the buffet and mingle with the patrons while enjoying a good meal would go a long way.
BEACH:: 6/10, not the best, lots of coral on beach which makes it hard on feet if you walk barefoot. You are limited to walk in front of the 3 RiU properties only but this offers a decent walk if you do it a couple of times. The beach was ok to swim in, the water was warm and there were hardly any weeds. I like that the resort is smoke free and offers smokers smoking areas throughout the property.
ROOMS: 7/10. The rooms were very clean, the bedding and pillows were comfortable, the water pressure in shower was great and the room was spacious enough. The design however was not practical with a bath tub next to bed with no privacy wall or curtain. The shower is also in the corner but no privacy wall, there was a door where the toilet is and that’s it. Room service was amazing, always on time and most of the time always accurate with our orders.
BARS: 10/10 exceptional service everywhere and every time! Hats off to all the bartenders who work hard to prepare quality cocktails.
FOOD: 10/10 excellent, both at the à la carte restaurants and the buffet. The buffet had lots to offer and everything was very tasty. It was easy to make reservations for the restaurants using the RIU application. This application that you download on your phone is your best tool, with it you can contact maintenance, housekeeping, front desk for all your requests. They are very prompt and efficient. Love the application. You can also use the app to scan QR codes at the restaurant and from your beach chair to view menus. Love the app!
ENTERTAINMENT 8/10, the animation team works very hard to entertain guests and are very dynamic. Special kudos to Spider-Man, fuzzy dj, and Starfire. We particularly enjoyed the live entertainment but got very tired of the Christmas music playing at the 24 hour bar. I know it is the season, but a mixed playlist would have been appreciated. We also would have liked to hear more reggae music.
VENDORS: There are no vendors on the beach, they are in kayaks and will approach the beach to chat with tourists and to sell stuff but they are not pushy at all. The resort should consider a vendor market once a week to allow those who do not want to venture away from hotel to purchase local trinkets and souvenirs. There was a place across the street but it was not worth it. The sign said Santa’s Village but did not see any Santa or festive decorations. The gift shops in the hotel were overpriced.
BEACH TOWELS: 10/10, they had plenty and oh they smelled so good. The towels were in good condition and we did not notice any stains.
STAFF: RIU’s most valuable resources - 10/10. All our encounters with staff at front desk, restaurant, bars were extremely personable and made our vacation a pleasant and memorable one. Special recognition goes to David (Lifeguard) who went above and beyond with his compassion and kind heart, Tamar, bartender at the Elite pool bar was also a real gem, Monique bartender was also a delight, she impressed us with her ability to balance a tray full of drinks on her head. Another special person is Dr, Phil who worked at the buffet and also made sure we had a table and mimosas ready for breakfast.
The only complaint we have are the tourists that came in big groups, the ladies had long hair extensions, extra long fingernails, lots of bling and very little clothes to cover their very large curves. They were loud with no considerations for others, screaming at the top of their lungs in hallways in the middle of the night, filling their plates, leaving most of it (very wasteful) and never tipping for services. Their sense of entitlement was a huge turn off and we felt bad for the staff who had to endure them. We talked to other tourists at the sister hotels and many had the same comments and made the same observations. The staff deserve a bonus to serve these type of clients.

Riu Negril: Rui Negril
Hotel and grounds were very elegant and well kept. The room was okay just a bit dated. All rooms are very close to the beach and the views are great. The beach looks beautiful but not for swimming as there is lots of weed and grass growing in the sand.
Food was great with large selections to please everyone. Hotel staff was very welcoming and fun.
