Resonance Blu Varadero: Amazing resort
It's been over a year since I took my vacation to Cuba and stayed at Memories Varadaro Beach Resort. I was hoping to take another trip to Cuba but with the global pandemic, unfortunately that was not an option. However, my experience at this beautiful resort was unforgettable. The entire staff was superb. The amenities, amazing, the food delicious. I couldn't have asked for a better vacation. I absolutely recommend this resort 10x over. the exchange office was not open until one day before we go and they don t change
foreign currencies between them
a biig problem was with the personnel making jokes on the back of clients
especially at the reception and in the dinning hall
in the dinning they were playing with anti insect spray and also they knew how to throw insects toward clients and pinch them taking pict with client while eating without reason and not asked laughing all the time
in the computer room we cannot use the internet because they blocked the pc daily while in the middle of writing a msg - including the person who was there for help and cients behind the door

Hotel Rancho Luna: Rancho Luna
Heres what I think. The hotel was busy with lots of Cuban people that came to the hotel with no Pcr test like the tourist had to have coming to the hotel. The food was descent the drinks were good. Now about Hola Sun handle the COVID-19 testing. The testing was done on time for the results to be ready. But on the day to go to the airport they only had about 5 test results for about 15 people. On the way to the airport they stopped at a car on the way to airport and picked up a few [... read more]more. We get to airport and not all people had results. At the airport 4 people get there results and I don't get mine. I miss my flight to go home. Next morning I get a knock on my door. They have my results a day late and inform me I'm positive. Then I spend a week of hell at a Cuban hotel hospital for tourist and heard many other horror stories. No one speaks English at the hospital. The travel agency and Hola sun holidays representive deserted me no one called or helped at all. My suggestion DON'T GO TO CUBA. It's a government of CUBA cash grab. Almost 2000 us dollars or 43000 Cuban national money. And you have to pay cash.

Great trip to Caribe. The staff are wonderful and cannot do enough for you. Beaches are clean and ocean.COVID has greatly reduced the number of visitors which means no line ups at the restaurants or bars. Everyone on the island of Cayo coco gets tested for COVID with results the next day. New arrivals are asked to wear masks until the Covid tests come back Staff always wear masks We will be returning

Dhawa Cayo Santa Maria: Great resort
Quite the friendly staff. We where pampered because of a small group of tourist at the time. Resort had difficulty staying open because lock down and travel restrictions.
It was about 2 to 1 staff and client ratio. Nice clean beach with snorkeling a few meter off shore. Food variety was limited due to sanctions but good quality. The a la carte restaurants were the best I have experienced so far in Cuba. Overall it's an excellent resort

Hotel Rancho Luna: Good value
Covid precautions by the staff were good everyone wearing masks and proper hand cleaning. However i was concerned by many Cubans who were also staying at the hotel. I found out today that a tourist who had his. Cuban wife stay with him in the hotel contracted corona and he was not given his paperwork and was not allowed to fly home, however he did ride with us on the bus to the airport putting all of us at risk! Hotel Atlantico: Covid test ruins it
Hotel is like most in cuba. Tired and not maintained properly. However rooms are clean and everything worked. ( tv, fridge, shower, lamps etc)
Weather in January is this area is 18-26 degrees daily. Wind and rain are not a surprise. Pool water was dirty with bugs and leaves etc.. floating around. Hotel is the only beach front hotel at playa del este. Beach is one of the best beaches I’ve ever seen. And I’ve travelled a lot.
Covid related- everyone is wearing mask all the time , indoors and[... read more] outdoors.
Due to Covid-19,many places are closed, ( small restaurants little kiosks etc) Covid testing facility is 40km away ( on the other side of Havana) and it will cost you 1000 pesos return trip to go get tested , and another 1000 to pick up results. They don’t mail them, they don’t fax them.testing is only done 9-12 am but picking up is 24/7 ( so they say) You need to pick them up. Out of 3 tests they did for my group, they make mistakes in typing names on 2. Then we waited more for the results to be re-typed . Test is 30usd . -credit card only- visa only. In addition they double charged me which I’m still to call visa about. If cab is split 4 ways, that’s 20usd a person plus 30 for test each. It will also cost you two days at 3 hours each. Because of Covid and small number of tourists there are no taxis readily available. You better book it a day or two before and hope they show up.
When you first arrive and are tested at the airport, they give you a a yellow arm band in the hotel. You’re not supposed to go anywhere with yellow band but there’s nobody stopping you if you do. Then you wait 3 full days and on the morning of the 4th day, you get green band. Internet in the hotel doesn’t work longer than 30 seconds, but they won’t know this as in general their English skills are poor and their IT understanding not existent. Food is excellent for cuba ( and I’ve been to 15+ Cuban resorts)
They actually had salads ( veggies are rare at these places) and they had chicken, beef or pork in various meals which is also rare. Stuff is trying to help, but with their limited knowledge this often amounts to no help at all.
Also, CUC is accepted only in the bank and nowhere else. CAD is only accepted in the bank as well. CUC = 24, USD =24 and CAD 16 pesos.
If you ask anyone else you will get 30 up to 38 peso per USD . People desperately look for USD. I routinely exchanged USD for 33-36 pesos without issues in small stores or restaurants.
All in all, with waiting 3 days for results, 50USD AND 6 hours wasted to test again, stress of organizing it and anticipation of results ( what if you test false positive?) makes the trip unpleasant . Walking to the east 3 km on the road next to the beach will get you to another hotel. You may walk in ( like I did) only to find out that it’s a Hotel for asymptomatic Covid patients. Of course no guard at the beach .. once you walk in you may be in trouble and not be able to leave..
Personally I like adventure, so I didn’t mind any of this, however anyone who is looking for relaxing vacation.. this ain’t it.

Club Kawama: maybe amazing for me: bad
The room provided at the hotel didn't have hot water, security box not functioning, no tv, dirty windows, dirty towels, spiders
I reported this to the desk immediately and I gave a copy of the report to Yordy, the Sunwing rep
There was a promise of changing the room and they changed it with a worse one: all of the above and a terrible noise from the external air conditioning
So after hours and hours day and night of waiting getting no answer from the desk being tired and dirty, sleepless in [... read more]Varadero, I took the decision to go ahead and rent a room for the remaining period (I have a receipt from the renting house outside the hotel for I paid extra) when of course I didn't take advantage of any breakfast or supper

Memories Caribe Beach Resort: Excellent Service and Wonderful Beach, some dodgey anti-COVID measures
I spent 2 weeks here.
Pros: - For the most part, the service I received from staff was excellent. I would give them 4.5/5 on service.
- The beach is the best one I have visited in Cuba. The water is very shallow, so you have to walk out quite a ways to reach swimming depth, but I didn't need my water shoes because there were no sharp shells or broken coral to step on.
- The accommodations were adequately cleaned.
- The resort is only 20 minutes from the airport.
Cons: - Some of the acc[... read more]ommodations are very run down. The first room I was in did not have a deadbolt. I switched rooms (just across the hall) for the second week, and the room was much better. I would rate the rooms I saw as 2.5/5
- There is a fridge in every room, but they will not put beverages in it unless you pay the extra daily "Diamond Club" fee. They will still give you a 1 litre bottle of water every day.
- There was often confusion as to whether the buffet would be open at dinner time, or if it was mandatory to make a reservation at an a la carte for dinner. Sometimes the resort would make that decision at the last minute.
- none of the rooms have bug screens on the balcony doors.
anti-COVID Measures: Some appeared to be effective, while others were not.
- Masks were only mandatory (even indoors) until your COVID test results are received after about 24 hours. So you are staying at a resort with unmasked guests, many of whom are not distancing at all from others.
- All of the staff wore their masks appropriately at all times.
- At the buffet, there are yellow lines on the floor that guests are not supposed to cross, and staff are supposed to handle all of the plates and serve up the food. The yellow lines create bottlenecks so that there is often no choice but to pass very close to other guests while indoors. I even had several guests touch me and brush up against me in the buffet. I also saw several guests touch the stacks of plates.
- There are hand sanitizer stations all over the resort, but only about half of them work. The one outside the dinner reservations office in the lobby stopped functioning by the second week of my stay. I reported the problem multiple times, but the dispenser was never fixed or replaced. This is the door that every guest was forced to touch at least once per day, and there was no nearby functioning dispenser to clean your hands before or after.
- There are no hand sanitizer dispensers inside the buffet building. So you sanitize your hands before going in, but then you have to touch the door to pull it open, and many, many guests did not clean their hands before touching it. There are no dispensers inside to clean your hands before receiving or eating a plate of food. Fortunately, I had a small bottle of sanitzer with me that I started bringing to meals so I could clean my hands before touching my food.
- None of the tables were 6 feet apart. The resort was at much lower occupancy, which should have allowed for proper distancing during meals. However, the resort closed off half of the buffet seating area, forcing us all to squish into one side. At the a la cartes, it depended on how many people had reservations at the same time as you. Sometimes there was an empty table between myself and the nearest guest, sometimes I was within 2 or 3 feet of someone else.
- On the bus ride to the resort (so this would be a problem regardless of which resort you are at): They are still running a side business of selling beer. Then the conductor/guide comes on the microphone and starts asking people if they are happy to be in Cuba, and when we
don't respond loudly enough, they say "come on, I can't hear you..." and everyone starts yelling and cheering. I was extremely uncomfortable being in an enclosed, crowded (almost every seat was occupied) space, with yelling people who were not wearing masks because they were drinking beer. I would recommend buying the private transfers if they are available for your trip, as the bus transfer has pretty much zero COVID safety measures.
- At the airport on departure: It was standing room only in the terminal, and you are stuck there for 2 hours or more waiting for your plane with strangers, many of whom are choosing not to wear their masks until they get on the plane, and many of whom choose to sit or stand right next to you because the terminal is so crowded. There is a hand sanitzer station outside the airport, but there are none inside the building.

Brisas Sierra Mar: wrong hotel
We were originally booked for the Brisas Sierra Mar, but due to circumstances we were transferred to the Brisas Guardalavaca
While the resort is beginning to show some of its age, it is well kept. Grounds are beautiful and the groundskeepers are very pleasant. Would not recommend this hotel solely because we prefer smaller resorts. This one was too big for our liking, and very busy.

Valentin El Patriarca Varadero: Well priced resort with great staff
Went early December. Flight, entry into Cuba all good. I enjoyed my stay at the hotel for the following reasons: the staff was wonderful, the level of cleanliness was adequate, given that it was Cuba with its limited cleaning supplies, the beach area was clean, grounds well tended, the bars relatively well stocked. I felt safe at the resort - the staff all adhered to Covid protocols - wore masks and shield inside and out. There was an adequate number of hand sanitizer dispensers everywhere, gues[... read more]ts were served their buffet items, which was great. Tables were spaced apart in dining areas. The cons- no hot water first day in our room - however fixed quickly - Lock on our door was faulty and had to be serviced twice - which was annoying - however - it was dealt with quickly. Towels clean but always had that musty smell which was a real turnoff - music drove is crazy in the lobby - because the same music was played by the DJ every night of our one week stay - everyone was complaining- easy fix! Now for the food - except for a few meals - I found the food to be terrible - I am used to terrible food in Cuba and understand the food shortage problem - but nonetheless the food was bad. Generally the food was recycled, the fish was overcooked, the beef tough, and there were no fresh veggies to speak off - except occasional green tomatoes and cucs. Plus the food was extremely salty - as is the norm in Cuba it seems. I did acquire a bad stomach problem for 2 days - was it the food? water? and had to spend one day in bed! A quick survey of other guests suggested to me that whatever this was affected a number of the guests randomly throughout the resort - including Cuban guests.

Royalton Cayo Santa Maria: Much anticipated...totally worth it!
Arriving in Santa Clara airport, everyone received a Covid PCR test. Very little delay in getting through. At the hotel we received the results within 18hrs. Required to wear the face masks until getting the results.
We took a private transfer to the hotel and upon arrival, my wife and I commented that here must be some VIP's coming, as there was all of the hotel staff 100+ waiting to greet us! We were quite literally the first guests in the hotel since they shutdown 9 months ago! The staff w[... read more]ere all amazing and attentive from the GM Alex to the Butlers, who had alternating days of work. In the hotel and throughout Cuba it is mandatory for all to wear the masks. Staff was constantly topping up sanitizing dispensers, restaurant and lobby areas were sanitized after each use. The main washrooms by each the restaurants/pool had full time attendants sanitizing after use. Social distancing markers were placed in areas were lineups may occur. QR codes are on each table with the menu of the day for each restaurant.
We really...really enjoyed this hotel and were 100% comfortable and very impressed with how The Royalton/staff are dealing with the guests and handling the constant cleaning and sanitizing through these crazy times!

Rooms are clean, food was delicious and plenty of drinks. Bartenders are friendly. We were at the beach a lot and used the beach bar. The bartenders there were absolutely great. The beach was very big and very beautiful. The sand and water were perfect. We took long walks along the beach. Food was delicious and plenty to choose from. The entertainme[... read more]nt was different than your usual resort entertainment. Every night was something different and unique and in different parts of the resort.
This was the best resort I’ve ever been to. And I’ve been to many. I would definitely go back to this one. We were planning to go back in December 2020 but can’t because of Covid. One week wasn’t enough. Next time I’d love to go for 2 weeks especially with everything that’s gone on for the past year.
This is a resort for age groups 30’s/40’s, singles, and families.

Hotel Mojito: Relaxed fun with great service!
If vacation means quiet relaxing, enjoying the pool or beach and meeting fun people - you will enjoy the Iberostar Mojito. This is an older hotel - but well maintained. Melia Costa Rey: Consistently great service at Pullman's
A shout out to the great team at Pullman.
My apologies in submitting this review so late. Been really caught up with work and this damn COVID-19.
My daughter and I visited Pullman between Feb 15 and 22, 2020. This was our third visit here. We arrived at around 11.30 a.m and were told the room will be available at 3 pm (the normal check-in time). We were surprised to get the room by 2 p.m. That was fantastic!
First contact was with the customer service staff (Aileen) who helped resolve the [... read more]two issues with the room (safe needed new batteries and the sink was not draining). Also, a change from prior visits was that we were pre-booked for the specialty restaurants. Awesome!
The reason we keep going back to Pullman is because of the Entertainment Team and the Lobby Bar staff.
A special thank you to Gene-in-a-bottle, Betty, Chocolate, Baby Junior, Richard, Yunet, Mia, Mary, The Twins and Juris (with a Y)! A special thank you to Adrian greeting us everyday and spending time chatting with us. The team helped Anushka with her Spanish lessons as well!
The staff at the Bar, despite being super busy on most days, took care to remember our orders. A big thanks to Edgar, Adl, Ricardo, Roberto and Nelson. And thanks to Miry at the Pool Bar who made sure she had tomato juice available for my BM!
It would be remiss of me not thank Alexander and the 'singing lady' at El Carey.
If I have missed anybody, my apologies for not remembering your names. Thank you!
I must say that the nightly entertainment at the Theatre is by far the best I have seen across resorts in the Caribbean. An absolute treat.
Thank you to the team at Pullman. You Rock! Keep up the great work and hope to see you in Sept/Oct 2020 once COVID goes away!!
Best Regards,
Raja and Anushka
